Actually I am looking to collate this data on cost of metro systems. However this is probably not open source. Any case I will try to collate this data if I can find stuff somewhere. If you find interesting links please post here. If we know that the tender costs from some open source tender bid winning price then it will be useful

What the hard hat's color reveals about each person at a metro construction site:
• White – Nodal agency’s management, staff & site visitors
• Purple – Engineers & supervisors hired by the civil construction contractor
• Grey – Quality consultants, designers & architects
• Blue – Engineers & supervisors hired by the subcontractor
• Yellow – Construction workers
• Red – Electricians
• Orange – Traffic marshals & security guards at site entrances
• Green – Safety professionals

Bangalore Metro's 9th AGM (view PDF report) on Sept 24 makes a brief mention about Phase 2A of the project which will connect Nagavara with the airport. From 5 routes initially identified by RITES, they have narrowed down to 2:

I. Nagavara to Airport via Tanisandra, Begur;
II. Nagavara to Airport via National Highway — Hebbal, Yeliahanka.

the hennur road (right one) is better from pov of land acquisition. it was being residentialized slowly but still had plenty of land to plan properly if desired.

Actually the one over the national highway would be better= bulk of the car traffic actually goes through there and can reducehe huge rush .

This news is very ancient. It is already in the Annual report of Namma Metro for 2013-2014, see pg 133, Section 3.2, in particular 3.2.1. and 3.2.1 about RITES.

http://bmrc.co.in/pdf/finance/ar1314.pdf

Some other individual wanted to get financial information about Metros in India. The link above gives everything you want and more about BMRC. I suppose annual reports are generated by all Metro Rail corporations.
There is a Hindi version of the news above in the first 100 pages, interested forumers can read the Hindi version on pg. 31.

The one along NH-7 will have more traffic and make it profitable. The other alignment is good for a metro express links perhaps in the future if needed. This one if taken up now will leave out Yelahanka completely which has settlements from two decades back.

correct. else, it fails the definition of MRT. all routes must be substantiated by the probability of use.

The requirements of a Airport metro will be different from a Mass system.... ..Air Passenger volume will be low if it is mass transit type crowded.

Vriksh, there was a while that I was looking at some costs, but I didn't save the reports. Some of the reports are open source by the relevant agency /public bodies and some are reported in the newspapers.

The initial thoughts analysis that gave a lot of impetus to my thinking came from https://pedestrianobservations.wordpres ... s-revised/.

Though it is flawed, it was very insightful for a top down outside in analysis and allowed me to see the inherent bias in practically all newspaper reporting (As an example, hindu and others parroted and tom-tomed the 25% or like savings for one of the metro projects vs a gulf project - by quoting gross costs/km without taking underground vs overground, cost of living/exchange rates etc., taxes, finance etc)

Delhi phase 2 was supposed to be 10% cheaper than Delhi phase 1 before the cutting of corners started to hit things

Indian metros do tend to be rather expensive globally if one were to use a PPP basis (and of course that is one of those assumptions i mentioned). Delays seem to escalate costs everywhere ...Financing is often a large cost concern.

Some of the UNEP stuff was projected (originally envisaged cost), but pretty interesting: http://www.unep.org/transport/lowcarbon ... Tiwari.pdf (esp page 3-5, 15 on taxes)

http://www.unep.org/transport/lowcarbon ... oRails.pdf

Delhi Metro was supposed to move to Comet benchmark in 2015, but I haven't seen any publications from this yet. (probably premature)
http://cometandnova.org/research-invest ... of-metros/

For operating cost, http://easts.info/on-line/proceedings/vol9/PDF/P84.pdf [OPDF fig 3 onwards shows some interesting light with Delhi being in a relatively high Asian cluster for cost effectiveness, but 6th or so (not the greatest). Since the rolling stock is relatively new and employee cost is the largest fraction of operating cost (41%), that says that perhaps we are not very efficient at staffing.

Also, I stopped following contract news like this one on Gammon for 1947 crore for 7 underground stations http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/che ... 423156.ece as it became too fragmented and there were lots of games and lack of clarity on scope, leading to no correlation to the actual costs,.

if they lay a 3rd and 4th line at stations for nonstop movement, the same line can be used for airport express metros and regular trains.
the hennur road axis is also coming up strongly in population terms, albeit not so crowded as the hebbal-yelehanka axis...it will go through the (in)famous arkavathy layout - that was the last formal layout developed by BDA around 10 years ago...it never took off due to legal challenges and since then BDA has been unable to acquire land and build any more layouts. not that it benefits the common man - most of the plots are sold to govt employees for a pittance , who then either resell it or build something themselves. a case of the system working for the system. corner plots are reserved for eminent people allied to the Govt like journos, ias, legal eagles, writers and so on.

Both those lines shortlisted if built will serve for a major expansion northwards of the city. A daily commute from those suburbs to the city and the current ORR business centers will be feasible, without congesting ORR further with more residential complexes abutting the commercial ones.

The plans need to build out the lines in less then 5 years. Some could perhaps be built simultaneously if limited to above ground. The nexus of politics and builders ensures that there will be no immediate connectivity to far flung regions...till the over-inflated inner regions are all sold out and enough money made.

Despite Bangalore's National College to Puttenahalli section of the green line being ready for years, it cannot start ops  since the tunneling work is not complete & the line's depot is located in the northern end of the city. BMRC had planned to transport the coaches and then lift them onto the elevated section, but now has shelved that plan.

Kochi Metro Erects Steel Girders Over Indian Railways’ Line to Connect Depot
On the night of October 21, the Kochi Metro’s civil construction contractor, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), erected four I-shaped steel girders over the Indian Railways’ line at Muttom to connect the “main line” of the metro with the Depot where the trains will be parked, maintained and repaired.

1. Cracks in market areas as TBM Kaveri digs underneath Bangalore

-- BMRCL's official statement
•BMRCL, in a press release on Wednesday evening, stated that cracks had appeared in some private buildings due to tunnelling work. Between October 16 and November 4, it has asked seven families to vacate their houses.

• Compensations are being paid by the contractor directly to the owners for the period the building is being evacuated,” said a statement by U A Vasant Rao, Chief Public Relations Officer, BMRCL.

• All the occupants were evacuated well before any tunnelling activity. ‘Kaveri’ is below MS Building and is facing mixed geographical conditions consisting of about 70 to 80% hard rock in the tunnelling zone, the release said.

Bangalore Metro's MD - Pradeep Singh Kharola and his team are all pathological liars. Time and again, they've lied about when different reaches of the system will open up and have come up with flimsy excuses for not doing so. Now even the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety has called him out.

BMRCL Awaits Nod; Safety Body Says It was Issued in Sept
The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has shown green light to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) to throw open the Mysuru Road-Magadi Road stretch for public. This permission came about as far back as September first week but the BMRCL is yet to launch the service.Commissioner SK Mittal told ET that he gave safety clearance two months ago and said they could go ahead with the service any time they want. “I have not asked for any changes and I don't know why they are not starting the service while people are eagerly waiting for years to board a metro,“ Mittal said.

BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola, however, maintained that the CRS had indeed suggested some minor changes and the BMRCL will start the service after these changes are made. He also indicated that the service might start any time.

^+100. BLR always ends up getting raw deal with major infra projects. Absolutely pathetic management by BMRCL and now they want to start work on Phase-2 while majority of Phase-1 is yet offline. Even PM (O) tried to get these people in rein. One can imagine how bad stuff must be @ BMRCL even if PM's intervention has failed to yield results.

Yes, that's the cause. It would be a logistical nightmare to open the Mysore Road branch while work on tracks/3rd rail/signalling system continues on the underground stretch from Magadi Road to Cubbon Park. It just baffles me why the BMRCL wouldn't admit to this instead of misleading people, blaming it on pending work "as recommended by the CRS" BS and then getting caught with their pants down.
