Madam Fair retweeted that no Paki dignitary was present at Isloo to receive SS. What gives ? Heartburn, plain insult or just vanila stupidity for which Paki are famous for.
Basically miffed that their fondest wish of keeping India out of Afghanistan has been kicked in the gonads and that Rawheel must have got a size 12 boot planted on his Musharraf in DupleeCity on his recent visit and told about that in no uncertain terms.

So that is the basic thing. India is now a formal playa in Afghanistan and Pawkiss stan ain't gonna have a free run there. That is the basic fact and hence the glum looks all around in Pawkiss tan

To be fair, India has been one of the 14 founding members of the Heart of Asia Conference on Afghanistan when it was instituted in 2011. There is nothing new here.

This violation of protocol, if true, could be the display of Pakistan's bravado and swagger which it does whenever it feels that it has had the measure of India in anything. Two such swaggers imprinted in my mind are Javed Miandad whenever he walked in to bat against India and Musharraf, on the eve of Kargil, testing a handgun in the presence of his PM Nawaz Sharif.

About the SA knowing that the terrorist woman visiting India, how would they know? She could have taken a flight to India and caught another flight out. Unless, she visited the SA embassy to receive some jihadi training.

Pakistan can always say as it does not have a Foreign Minister and so only 'senior officials from the foreign ministry' could receive SS. The senile Sartraz is only an adviser. Does he have a cabinet rank?

We're not running Indo-Pak talks on counter-terrorism, says US - PTI
The US is not running or convening any talks between India and Pakistan with respect to counter-terrorism, a State Department official has said welcoming the latest series of talks between the two South Asian countries to resolve their bilateral issues.

"We are not running any or convening any talks between India and Pakistan with respect to counter-terrorism. We strongly and still believe that the best solution is for the two countries to work out these issues together," State Department Spokesman John Kirby yesterday told reporters at his daily news conference.

"These are common threats they both face, so I'm not aware of any effort by the United States to lead or convene some sort of effort," he said in response to a question.

The US, he said, welcomes report of the meeting between Indian and Pakistani officials.

"We support any and all positive steps India and Pakistan can take to reduce the tensions, to engage in dialogue, forge closer relations. The normalisation of relations between those two countries is vital not only to them but to the region, so we once again encourage this kind of dialogue," Kirby said.

"As I've said before, I mean, these are issues that are best worked out between the two of them by the two of them," he said in response to another question.

Kirby said terrorism poses a serious threat to the countries in the region and this has been an important issue of conversation with officials of these nations.

"But specifically between India and Pakistan, we continue to believe that this is - these are issues which, frankly, should encourage both sides to continue to want to work closer and stronger together bilaterally to solve it, because it is a common threat to both of them {Absolute BS. There is only one terrorist threat and that is the Pakistani Army and the State} ," Kirby said.

X Posted from the “Oil & Natural Gas: News & Discussion” thread.

Very positive to see diversification of India’s crude oil import basket. The volatile situation in Mohammadden majority Arab countries and avoiding a geographic choke point like the Straits of Hormuz demands diversification. Then there is the small satisfaction of pointing out to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that Gwadar Port has less potential to disrupt India’s oil supplies than the Punjabi dominated military of the Islamic Republic thought possible  .

Good also to see that the complexity factor of our PSU refineries has improved enabling us to partially break the shackles of using high quality Middle East crude oil and instead use heavier crudes that are available elsewhere in the world :

Image

See article here:

Oil imports get a distinct Latino flavour : India’s crude oil import basket is diversifying with firms looking for hedging against possible supply disruptions and many newer PSU refineries being keen to process heavier crude to improve margins

Hamid Mir's twitter account has been hacked and his private emails are released. They tell a story of how ISI harasses people in Pakistan. First and foremost, all the phones and houses are bugged. Then, they send anonymous threats, kidnappings and assassination attempts to the person and his family. These things are blamed on dime a dozen terrorist groups in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Then, ISI uses their official proxies to attack the public credibility of their target by making all sorts of allegations and insinuations. And then they hack the emails and other social media accounts to harass them. This constant harassment wears down the opposition and most people opposed to ISI will either run away from Pakistan or make a deal with them. If all else fails or if the opponent is also powerful guy, then they are assassinated like Benazir Bhutto or Akbar Bugti. Then, the evidence is hosed down and a sham commission report is submitted. ISI is especially keen on controlling media and politics and therefore the pressure on the politicians and media is huge. So, media and politicians in Pakistan have learnt not to cross swords with ISI or Army and simply dance to their tunes. Any minor mis-step attracts severe punishment from ISI. These emails also show how ISI manufactures evidence against MQM. And then, ISI uses this to make allegations against RAW. ISI and Armed forces in Pakistan can get away with literally anything.

I am not posting all the emails, just a few I think are relevant:

Hamid Mir says that ISI became his mortal enemy once he started focusing on the genocide in Balochistan by Pak Army. Remember, genocide is not new to Pak Army. Pak Army had committed horrible genocide in East-Pakistan until it was liberated by India in armed intervention in 1971. Very recently, Bangladesh hanged the people who co-operated with the Pakistan army's war crimes in 1971. After the liberation of East-Pakistan, Balochistan also revolted against Pakistan. And immediately, Pak Army started using their brutal genocide to suppress the freedom movement. Any mainstream politician or mediaperson in Pakistan who raises these issues of human right violations is harassed by ISI. Balochistan itself has huge number of kidnappings most of which are carried out by the blessings of Pak Army.

In short, Pakistani state is a text-book case of a fascist state.

California shooter studied at Al-Huda institute: teacher
MULTAN: The woman who, with her husband, shot dead 14 people in yblast week attended one of the most high-profile religious teaching centres for women in Pakistan, a teacher at the Al-Huda institute told AFP Monday.
Tashfeen Malik, 29, studied at the Al-Huda Institute in Multan, which admits middle-class women and also has offices in the US, the UAE, India(authorities should take note, if confirmed) and the UK, the teacher at the teaching centre who gave her name only as Muqadas said.
"It was a two-year course, but she did not finish it," the teacher Muqadas said. "She was a good girl. I don't know why she left and what happened to her."
he teacher did not say when Malik studied at the Al-Huda institute, but fellow classmates at the Bahauddin Zakariya University said she had attended the institute after classes at the university, which she attended from 2007-2013.
So, she had an "aptitude" for religious studies ? aside from pharmacy ?
Farhat Hashmi’s organisation, Al-Huda institute, has no known(maybe yet unknown) extremist links, though it has come under fire in the past from critics who say its ideology is extremist in nature.
...and spent extended periods of time in both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, may have radicalised her husband.
The probe is trying to establish if she had contact with radicals in either country.

F-16 jets US plans to sell to Pakistan will be used against India: Husain Haqqani

Former Pakistani ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani warned Washington the F-16 fighter jets it plans to sell to Islamabad will be used against India instead of militants.

“Unless Pakistan changes its worldview and its compulsive competition with its much larger neighbour even in violation of international commitments, American weapons will end up being used to fight or menace India and perceived domestic enemies instead of being deployed against jihadists,” Haqqani said.

In October, it was reported that the Obama administration was preparing to sell eight new F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, an overture intended to bolster a tenuous partnership despite persistent concerns about Islamabad’s ties to elements of the Taliban and quickly expanding nuclear arsenal.

Terming the sale of such military hardware and even reported talk of a civil nuclear deal an appeasement policy towards Pakistani military, Haqqani urged the US to remind the Pakistani leadership that their ambition of rivalling India is akin to Belgium trying to rival France and Germany.

The former envoy contended in his remarks ahead of a Congressional hearing on ‘Civil Nuclear Cooperation with Pakistan: Prospects and Consequences to the Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade Subcommittee of the Committee on Foreign Affairs’ that “the Obama administration’s consideration of a nuclear deal with Pakistan, just like its decision a few months ago to sell almost US1 billion dollar in US-made attack helicopters, missiles and other equipment to Pakistan will fuel conflict in South Asia without fulfilling the objective of helping the country fight extremists or limit its nuclear arsenal.”

Earlier this year, the US State Department approved Pakistan’s request to purchase US-made attack helicopters, missiles and other equipment valued at almost $1 billion, aimed at fighting insurgent’s in the country.

Haqqani alleged that Pakistan’s failure to tackle its extremist challenge reflects an absence of will not lack of arms.

“Unless Pakistan changes its worldview and its compulsive competition with its much larger neighbour even in violation of international commitments, American weapons will end up being used to fight India and perceived domestic enemies instead of being deployed against militants,” he said.

Haqqani, who is currently serving as director of South & Central Asia at the Hudson Institute, said US is feeding Pakistan’s delusion of being India’s regional military rival by providing it with military aid and selling equipment. “Seeking security against a much larger neighbour is a rational objective but seeking parity with it on a constant basis is not,” he said.

He further maintained that unlike other countries, Pakistan did not raise an army to match the threats it faces, adding that at independence Pakistan inherited 33 per cent of British India’s army, raised for the Second World War and has since sought to identify threats that match the size of that army.

Urging US lawmakers not to allow military and civilian hardliners in Pakistan to pursue unwinnable competition with India, Haqqani said it is time, the US adopted a policy towards Pakistan that supports the aspirations of its people for a better standard of living.

“The US government has been giving the signal that Pakistan is too important for the US to ignore, which reinforces all of Pakistan’s wrong policies. These are policies that both the US and a significant section of the Pakistani intelligentsia would like changed,” Haqqani said.

Long time back we discussed whether pakistan as an issue plays important role in Indian general election. We said Indian common man is oblivious of pakistan and it does not appear as one of the critical priorities in life of an Indian. That general public is much less obsessed about pakistan and pakistan as an entity exists in here only because of its terrorism.

While the last part is still true I am coming to conclusion that we need to revisit our discussion around whether general election is actually impacted by 'the issue that is known as pakistan', and if yes then to what degree.

for the sake of this argument let me define a common man a representative of 'majority of middle class' that includes lower and upper segments.

My points:
1. There is so much terrorism inflicted upon us by pakistan for so long that it is inconceivable for me to imagine that a common man does not think pakistan as an issue.
2. People are aware pakistan as a problem is handled by the central government elected via General Elections
3. National pride is involved when we deal with pakistan, be it a sport or war. India pakistan cricket match is seen as a war played on cricket ground. National sentiment is hurt when we lose to them than any other nation and we burst into euphoriant celebration when we win against them. I can take this as an evidence of 'pakistan is an issue' plays on a common man's mind

If I establish above premise and try to connect dots of recent elections
1. 12th GE did not give NDA numbers required to form the government. But 13th did and there was Kargil war between that period under Vajpayee.
2. NDA lost the next election. During their turn there was Kandahar hijack, release of terrorists, grand welcome of musharraf by NDA for the Agra summit. LKA and ABV's affection towards pakistan was evident
3. 26/11 happened just before the 15th election. Unlike Kandahar hijack UPA did handle the incident with tough hand. I am aware that it is not exactly an apple to apple compare. I am just trying to establish that it can play in common man's mind. UPA won that election.
4. MMS's affection towards pakisan was evident in his second term. UPA's soft handling of pakistan post 26/11 was evident. Modi used this issue in the next election. UPA lost and NDA won the last election.

It is questionable to what degree 'pakistan' has played a role in the general election. But my hypothesis is that the % could not be so insignificant to ignore, and there is this whole bunch of section exists within the society whose votes can be impacted by GoI's handling of pakistan.

Modi needs to be very careful in dealing with pakistan. You never know how it plays on people's mind. People tend to forget previous successes over the most recent fiascoes... and vice versa.

SSJi, I hope there is a well thought out strategy from ModiJi. My own feeling is that his turnaround is the result many pressures, most certainly TSP's 3.5 given that India needs investment from those very 3.5. This sudden turn events from no talks to resumptions has happened many times before. While there may not have been any overt terror attacks in India, apart from J&K, it is very clear that TSP wants to use terror (and this includes Harried rats) to wrest concessions from India in J&K. Short of that, they have very little leverage. So basically, terror and talks cannot go together is out of the window. But that does not mean there is no innovative thinking on Indian govt's part, perhaps there is. And the reason I say this is because while India has said no kirket, it has said yes to dialogue. But make no mistake, TSP is using its terror in J&K as a leverage, something I am disappointed with.

Duh talks were supposed to have been about terror only and guess what the joint statement says?
http://zeenews.india.com/live-updates/l ... es-1832285
The Indo-Pak Joint Statement has been released. It says, "The EAM (Sushma Swaraj) and the Advisor (Sartaj Aziz) condemned terrorism and resolved to cooperate to eliminate it. They noted the successful talks on terrorism and security related issues in Bangkok by the two NSAs and decided that the NSAs will continue to address all issues connected to terrorism. The Indian side was assured of the steps being taken to expedite the early conclusion of the Mumbai trial."
I suspect this has been done behind Obama's back. India will be punished for this by 3.5.

http://www.thestatesman.com/news/india/ ... 09566.html
n a breakthrough in ties, India and Pakistan on Wednesday agreed to hold a “Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue” on all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir, with their foreign secretaries to draw up the schedule of the talks.

The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj after holding talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz.

Sushma, who addressed a joint press conference with Aziz, said she had held “very good talks” with the Pakistani side. “Both sides are to begin composite dialogue. It will have all the pillars of the composite dialogue and some other aspects. The foreign secretaries of both sides are to draw up the schedule and at what level the talks are to be held,” Sushma said.

She also said she will make a statement in Parliament on Thursday. “India and Pakistan are ready for dialogue on all issues,” she said.

Both sides issued a brief joint statement, which said that Sushma and Aziz “condemned terrorism and resolved to cooperate to eliminate it.” Both noted the “successful talks” between their National Security Advisors in Bangkok on Sunday and agreed that the NSAs “will continue to address all issues related to terrorism”. Pakistan also assured India “of the steps being taken to expedite early conclusion of the Mumbai trial”.

Both sides agreed to a “Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue and directed their foreign secretaries to work out the modalities and the schedule of the meetings under the Dialogue, including Peace and Security, CBMs, Jammu and Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek, Wullar Barrage/Tulbul Navigation Project, Economic and Commercial Cooperation, Counter-Terrorism, Narcotics Control, Humanitarian Issues, People to People Exchanges and Religious Tourism.”
....
However, the bilateral cricketing ties appear to be still stuck. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan said the board was informed of the refusal to participate in the bilateral series by the Indian side. He said he had been hopeful that Sushma’s visit would help mend matters, “but it did not happen”.
...
In another positive development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to attend the Saarc Summit being hosted by Islamabad next year, Sushma announced to journalists in Islamabad earlier.
In her address at the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia Istanbul Process on Afghanistan, Sushma pushed strongly for transit connectivity for India to Afghanistan through Pakistan and appealed that both India and Pakistan “display the maturity” to do business with each other and strengthen regional bonds.

Sushma said that India would be hosting the next Heart of Asia conference next year.

She said that India is willing to receive Afghan trucks on its land border with Pakistan, at Attari, and create the necessary facilities for Afghan products there.

“We have also formally indicated our willingness to join the Afghanistan-Pakistan Trade and Transit Agreement,” she said.

Pakistan has been unwilling to allow India to join the Afghan-Pakistan transit agreement, which would in effect provide New Delhi the shortest land access to Kabul and beyond to Central Asia. With Pakistan stymieing Indian efforts to join the transit agreement, India is now pushing to complete developing the Chabahar port in Iran for connectivity to Afghanistan and beyond.

“The ‘Heart’ of Asia cannot function if arteries are clogged. Nothing can benefit Afghanistan more immediately than full and direct overland access to India’s markets,” she said.

On Pakistan, she said: “It is time that we display the maturity and self-confidence to do business with each other and strengthen regional trade and cooperation. The entire world is waiting and rooting for a change. Let us not disappoint them.” Pakistan has also not granted India Most Favoured Nation status, though India has done so.

Sounding a reassuring note, she said: “For its part, India is prepared to move our cooperation at a pace which Pakistan is comfortable with. But today, let us at least resolve to help Afghanistan – in the best traditions of good neighbourliness – through more effective transit arrangements.”

“It is also the collective duty of all of us to ensure that the forces of terrorism and extremism do not find sanctuaries and safe havens in any name, form or manifestation. We, in Afghanistan’s proximity, have a particular responsibility in this regard,” in tacit reference to Pakistan.

Gun supplier in California attack connected to shooters’ family by marriage: documents
REIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA:
The man who supplied guns to the couple who killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California, last week is connected to the shooters’ family by marriage, state documents show.
Enrique Marquez, whose home was raided over the weekend and who is being questioned by federal investigators, was married last year to Mariya Chernykh, whose sister is the wife of Raheel Farook, brother of one of the shooters,(so, the "unvieled khatoon" shown in one of the earlier pictures is a convert to Mailsi ) Syed Rizwan Farook.
The family connection, revealed in marriage documents seen by Reuters, adds another element to the relationship between Farook and Marquez.
Two assault-style rifles used in the attack were legally purchased by Marquez, who has been described by several of his neighbors as having been a good friend of Farook, according to the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The Farook brothers lived next door to Marquez when they were growing up, though the brothers had both since moved.
Federal agents raided the Marquez home in Riverside, California, on Saturday. Marquez was being interviewed on Tuesday, a law enforcement official said. He had checked himself into a Los Angeles-area psychiatric facility following the shooting.
Was he sympathetic to the "Islamic cause" or was it strictly money motivated- remains to be seen !
A third neighbor, however, said he had seen Marquez with a woman. “I don’t know if they were legally married, but I saw him with someone,” said the neighbor, who also declined to be named.
Employees at a Walmart Supercenter in Corona, California, 20 minutes by car from Riverside, said Marquez has been working there as an asset protection and customer specialist (sounds like working in the" Guns Dept " of Walmart )for about six months. He was last seen at the store on November 29, they said.

^^^ IMO, stuff about the San Bernadino shooting that does not involve activities in Pakistan should be on the India-US thread.

Does Al-Huda Have Strains of Taliban Ideology Within Its Teachings? :rotfl:
The founder of the Al-Huda Institute, Dr Farhat Hashmi, has said that her institute cannot be held responsible for the acts of her students.( So, the Mohtrama has distanced herself from the teachings of her institution ) The statement came after it was revealed that Tashfeen Malik, the woman who shot dead 14 innocent people in California last week, attended Al-Huda International Seminary’s branch in Multan for two years in 2013 and 2014, and left without completing the diploma course. But class fellows have said that Malik attended Al-Huda between 2007-2013. This is just one of the gaps between the narrative that Al-Huda is giving and what friends of the California shooter have told the media.
The same question can also be asked of Bahauddin Zakariya University where there is no intensive religious education given. For Al-Huda to claim that it has no role in moulding the mind-set of Malik cannot be quite that simple. While Al-Huda rightly cannot be held responsible for the actions of its students or former students, what one needs to understand is that this is no ordinary school, but where women are taught how to change, not only their lifestyle and appearance, but also their very line of thinking with regards to treating other Muslims as well as people of other faiths.
If such future scenarios are to be avoided, the FBI should be allowed to "grill" the heads of these radical centres of "learning"
Much like how many of those who belonged to al Qaeda were recovered from houses of people who were allied to the Jamaat-e-Islami party, there are many educated women in Pakistan who have been radicalised by organisations like Al-Huda where students are taught, among other things, that Shias be considered non-Muslims and even within Sunni Muslims, only those who adhere to the Deobandi school of thought are on the right path.
And what about the "famous imam" of Lal Masjid, who has suddenly "become quiet" (probably on the orders of the Deep State)
Al-Huda adherents drastically change once they enrol in the institute’s classes and gradually reject their earlier set of friends as well as their way of life. They shun the companionship of more liberal and moderate Muslims. The same happened in the case of Tashfeen Malik, whose friends at Bahauddin Zakariya University also said that she changed radically once she started attending Al-Huda classes in Multan.

At Last the Suspense is Over! Jai Modi!! Jai Bharat!!!

Pakistan's hopes of India series dashed

LAHORE: Pakistan’s cricket chief said Wednesday his hopes for a bilateral series with arch-rivals India had been dashed after a visit to Islamabad by India’s external minister failed to yield any breakthrough.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had hoped Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Pakistan for the Heart of Asia regional conference Tuesday and Wednesday would open the way for a limited short over series, agreed between the PCB and the Indian cricket board and due to be played in Sri Lanka.

But Pakistan media reported cricket was not discussed during Swaraj’s talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz, while she made no reference to the series in a brief statement Wednesday evening.

Any chance of a series is “over”, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan told AFP, adding that the foreign office had conveyed to him that without talks on the cricket it would be “difficult” to arrange any series.

India had suspended bilateral cricket with Pakistan in the aftermath of the 2008 attacks on Mumbai, which New Delhi blamed on militants based across the border.

The two cricket boards agreed to break the deadlock by signing a Memorandum of Understanding last year under which they were due to play six series between 2015-2023, all subject to clearance from their respective governments.

The first series, originally due to be played in United Arab Emirates in December-January, was comprised of two Tests, five one-day and two Twenty20 matches, but it ran into trouble over strained relations between the two countries since the start of 2015.

Accusations of ceasefire violations led to the cancellation of a meeting between their security advisers in Delhi in August.

But a recent thaw, with both prime ministers briefly meeting on the sidelines of Climate Change conference in Paris in November and subsequent talks between security advisers in Bangkok, raised hopes of a cricket revival.

Last month the two boards agreed to play a short limited over series of three one-day and two Twenty20 internationals in Sri Lanka after their heads met in Dubai, leaving the final decision to their respective governments.

Islamabad gave a go ahead to the series on November 26 but have been awaiting clearance from New Delhi ever since.

Khan said the series could have netted Pakistan $50 million (five billion rupees). Ah Well! Now where are they going to get the Moolah-Dosh-Dough for the PSL?

“We are disappointed that India did not honour their commitment,” he said.

Very good decision by Modi Ji to not resume cricket. I think PCB was hoping to conduct a premiere league using money from India series. So, no India series means no league means no cricket in Pakistan for some more years which means cricket may die very soon in Pakistan.
