No laws made for minorities’ rights in three decades
http://www.dawn.com/news/1228209/no-law ... ee-decadesIKRAM JUNAIDI — UPDATED ABOUT 12 HOURS AGO
ISLAMABAD: During the last three decades no legislation was made to protect the rights of minorities in Pakistan. Moreover, through the 18th constitutional amendment in 2010, the chapter relating to minorities was handed over to provinces, further narrowing the scope for them.
This was stated by Advocate Ali Imran at a ‘consultative meeting on draft bills on hate crimes and births, deaths and marriages’ organised by an NGO, Pattan, at a local hotel on Tuesday.
He said most of the legislation on minorities was made in the 19th century and later incorporated into the Constitution.
The Constitution says that every citizen has equal rights, while under Article 36, the state shall safeguard the interests and rights of minorities. However, during the last three decades, no legislation was made to protect the rights of minorities, he said.
Mr Imran, who played a role in drafting the bills, said the environment was now suitable to table the bills in parliament, claiming 78 parliamentarians had been taken on board over the rights of minorities and hate speeches.
He said the major reason for violence against minorities was hate speech, adding there is no definition of a biased motivated crime. Social media is being used for hate crimes, he added.
“We have suggested that there should be punishment for hate speech on the social media. Moreover, political parties should be bound to give tickets to minorities on general seats.”
He said five per cent of the winnable seats should be given to minorities and out of these two per cent should be allotted to women.
The registration of births, weddings and deaths is also a big issue. “Churches don’t provide the record of weddings to the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) due to which we have suggested that through the legislation the churches should be bound to provide the record to Nadra,” he said.
A representative of Bahai community, who requested not to be named, told Dawn that minorities dont want a stamp from parliament to prove their marriage or that their children are legal.
“When someone get married abroad they are required by the concerned embassy to show a marriage certificate thats issued by Nadra. However, Nadra refuses to register the marriage,” he said.
In Pakistan, legislation takes time, so there should be an arrangement under which the marriage certificate should be issued by Nadra.
He said under an executive order Nadra can be directed to issue marriage certificates to minorities and if there is any doubt it can be counter-attested by the ministry of minorities.
“Moreover, if a bill has to be tabled in parliament, it should be for all minorities not just for Christians,” he said.
However, Mr Imran said wedding record of Muslims was registered with the union councils and sent to Nadra as they have family laws. Similarly, in the bill there is a mention of the church because except for Christians, no other minority community has family laws.
Social activist Dr Rakhshinda Parveen said mostly laws about Muslim women were discussed but no one spoke about minority women.
“Rights of women belonging to minorities and their issues such as dowry should also be taken into consideration while drafting a bill,” she said.
Asia Foundation’s Nadia Tariq Ali said there was an urgent need to address issues of the minorities because their problems were continuously increasing.
“Recently, the CDA submitted a report to the Supreme Court that Islamabad’s demography was changing because of the arrival of Christians in the city,” she said.
Deputy director of the foundation Amina Elahi said consultations were underway to collect recommendations which would be incorporated in the draft bills.

Facebook page linked to Taliban and Al Qaeda was registered to same address as British Muslim father OF PAKI ORIGIN whose Disneyland trip was blocked by Homeland Security
Mohammad Tariq Mahmood tried to travel from Gatwick Airport to LA
He, his brother and nine children were stopped on the orders of the US
Mr Mahmood says the family were barred 'because we are Muslim'
He dismissed Facebook account claiming links to Al Qaeda and Taliban
It was set up by someone who has lived at the family's postal address
Social media "joke" gone awry?A British Muslim father whose planned Disneyland trip was ruined when he and his family were barred from boarding a flight to the U.S. has now been forced to distance himself from a Facebook account claiming links to Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
Mohammad Tariq Mahmood, 41, his brother and their children, aged between eight and 19, said they were stopped at the departure gate at Gatwick airport and told their visas to the US had been revoked.
He claimed the family were barred from flying 'because they are Muslim'.
However, it has since emerged that a Facebook page claiming links to radical Islamist groups was set up by someone who has lived at the family's postal address, according to ITV News.
The account, which includes information suggesting it may have been published as a joke, was in the name of Hamza Hussain - a first name shared by Mr Mahmood's 18-year-old son. It reportedly lists the job titles 'supervisor at Taliban and leader at al-Qaeda'.
When asked about the account, Mr Mahmood believed hackers may have been to blame, adding: 'That could be anything, maybe a mistake.'
He said: 'It is not my son's Facebook page. It has a similar name, but not the same as my son's.
'The page is also linked to our home address and that could be coincidence. I don't know why it is linked there. The name is not even the same. The authorities must have linked it simply because of the name Hamza.'Taqiyya at play here ?
It was understood that the wives of Mr Mahmood and his brother had stayed at home for the trip because one of them was ill and one of the children did not have a valid passport.
But it is now believed that Mr Mahmood's wife was in Pakistan at the time.Ah ha- the inevitable Paki connection !
Mr Mahmood, who is from north-west London, has called on David Cameron to demand an explanation from the American authorities (the amreekees have to protect their homeland from the likes of Tafseen Malik and therefore they are within their rights when they suspect something; therefore, this "gentleman" cannot direct others to "demand" anything on his behalf ) and is seeking a refund for the cost of the airline tickets to Los Angeles.
Gym owner Mr Mahmood said the family were going to a reunion with his family in California after 15 years and hoped to visit Disneyland and other tourist sites.
The party were forced to hand back their duty free items with the children in tears.
He said: 'We had been planning the trip for four to five months and my kids had countdowns on their phones.
'It had been about ten or fifteen years since we'd had the whole family together.
Our flight was on Tuesday last week and it was meant to leave at 12:35 in the afternoon. We'd checked in and we'd bought things in duty free.'We were waiting in the queue at the gate and we were very close to getting on the plane.
'Then an announcement said they wanted to speak to Mr Mohammad. There was no one else of Asian origin or who looked Muslim so I knew it was me.
'A gentleman said he was from British Border Control and he had a border control jacket on.
'He said there was something wrong with my ESTA [Electronic System for Travel Authorization] and that I wouldn't be able to board. I had made sure we had our ESTAs cleared six weeks ago so I couldn't think what could be wrong.
'I asked why we weren't allowed to board. I had to be persistent. He wouldn't tell me why and said he didn't know at first.
They can't react like that just because we are Muslim. We are decent people. My kids are obviously upset.
Mohammad Mahmood
'He finally said they had had a call from Washington DC from homeland security and that I wasn't allowed to board. He wouldn't tell me anything more.'
Mr Mahmood later said his brother was refused entry to Tel Aviv when he flew there eight years ago, but the family were unsure whether that was linked to their refusal to fly last week.
Mr Mahmood, who was born in Pakistan, ( the connection again !) came to the UK when he was just 12, when his father came to work as a chartered accountant.
Stella Creasy, Labour MP in the Mahmood family's home constituency of Walthamstow, says she has failed to get a response from the US Embassy about their treatment.

So this is the future plan. Execute an major terrorist attack in J&K, use the presstitutes in the media to pressurize Modi to not retaliate and then the international community will give Bakistan nuclear status for doing some cosmetic crackdown on terrorists. Another equal-equal with India being enacted.
Well Modi should just stop treating the symptoms of the meccan disease and instead strike at the root cause of the disease. Nuke the HQ of the arab bandits in mecca and put an THE END to this saga of jihadi banditry.

Asif Zardari decries 'invasion of Sindh' by federal government
KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday said that the the federal government has compromised on country's founding father Muhammad Ali Jinnah's principle of adherence to the Constitution by 'invading the province of Sindh'. (invoking DJinnah's name is sure to garner a "few" sympathy votes from the Aam Abduls)
In a statement released by PPP's media cell, Zardari warned that the nation will slip into the quagmire of instability and uncertainty if the Constitution was trampled in this manner.
In his message of the eve of the 139th birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Zardari called upon the people of Pakistan to adhere to principles set by him in order to banish the militant and extremist mindset.
It seems that the non-Pakjabi leadership has been chased out of the country starting with Altaf bhai, the traditional Baloch leadership and now Dus Percenti, who is very astute in reading the "political leaves" and has departed the country. The interior ministry in a letter to the chief secretary of Sindh made it clear that the paramilitary force would continue to operate in the province with full powers.
PPP leadership reacted with dissent and anger to the decison, with Zardari's spokesman Farhatullah Babar also terming it an invasion of Sindh.

Paki star'let' flops in Bollywood, promptly plays the muslim card and claims victimization.
In the world of click-bait attention spans and a fiercely competitive entertainment industry, few would choose not to be taken at face value and stereotyped for their looks alone when it makes progress all the less difficult. And many would misperceive that someone as stunning as actor-model Sabeeka Imam could simply use her looks as a gateway to success. “I was told a pretty face can be banked on,” says an irked Sabeeka.
But for her, it’s all about making a mark through her credentials. “For an actor, recognition and acceptance mean a lot. When a critic points out that I was ‘well-casted’ in a film, it translates as the fact that my acting had no appeal,” she tells The Express Tribune. With modelling assignments in hand, cinema tugging at her heartstrings and all eyes on her, she adds, “Artists are very shy creatures. They are loud around only those they trust. Being stereotyped is the last thing I’d want to be.”
Of British-Pakistani origin, Sabeeka came to the fore only recently. With her face plastered on billboards and hoardings across the country, she has quickly become one of the most known faces in the modelling industry. With that, she has film appearances to her credit in both Bollywood and the UK. But she was never hungry for the limelight and seldom came out against any criticism.
Sabeeka has always been one of those who want to play the “chor and the police” on screen — roles that entail character. But her Bollywood debut was branded as exactly what she always distanced herself from. Vikas Bahl’s Queen was a film that, despite its banal humour, went on to become a commercial and critical success, redefining many of Bollywood’s stereotypical rules of cinema. It was a film shouldered entirely by its female lead, who is treated better by a free-spirited, independent woman abroad than her own family and husband-to-be back home.
The film also brought Sabeeka to the forefront in an avatar few actors of Pakistani origin would dare take up for an Indian movie. “I always wanted to act in a film that had Kangana Ranaut playing the leading lady in any capacity,” she says. Initially, the role of a Middle Eastern belly dancer was what she was roped in for, which soon took the shape of a pole dancer who had migrated to Europe from Pakistan. Excitement turned into nervousness when she was informed about the change of plan. “I have been greatly criticised for that role. I must clarify that I had signed up as a belly dancer (Really, who is she trying to fool by this gullible talk) . My audition (aka Casting Couch ) was great because I had trained as a dancer when I was young.”
Reminding herself that she is not all about looks, Sabeeka took it up as a challenge. “It was a bold step. It made me uncomfortable on many grounds. I was scared of the reaction, plus, I had never done anything like that on screen before. But had I not done that, what else was there for me?” she states. She finds no reason to have regrets. “It was something different from what I had done. I have only seen a role like this twice in films. I was not comfortable but it was a character … it was no bimbo role.”
She adds that not all’s well for a girl like her to make room in a space such as Bollywood. “I have seen how Muslim girls beg, plead and cry for roles in Bollywood films. They are exploited to a great extent.” In the backdrop of her Pakistani film debut with Jalaibee, she explains how this viewpoint pans out, “In India, they don’t generally let a Muslim get to the top. My life somehow belongs in Pakistan. I will do more movies here (A flop in India is good enough to succeed in Shitland. Besides what else choice do you have? ) .” Sabeeka fancies more diverse and riveting roles in a reviving industry she joined of her own accord. “I now want to play a more fascinating role, such as that of an intelligent and strong Pakistani wife.”
So basically an A lister in Pakistan gets only a two bit role in Bollywood. Being a Muslim her talent is beyond any doubt. The SDRE indians have not given her the top roles on a platter and hence this is a conspiracy against Muslims.
In the world of click-bait attention spans and a fiercely competitive entertainment industry, few would choose not to be taken at face value and stereotyped for their looks alone when it makes progress all the less difficult.

Pakistan 4th largest source of remittances to India
From rediff. How is this true?Surprising as it may seem, but Indians who have migrated to Pakistan are expected to remit back home a staggering $4.9 billion in 2015.
This would make Pakistan the fourth largest source of India's remittances this year, according to a new study by the World Bank.
Another interesting statistic the study throws out is that the Bangladesh-India corridor ranks third in the list of top migration corridors behind the Mexico–US and the Russia–Ukraine corridors.
Bangladeshi migrants residing in India are expected to remit $4.6 billion back home in the current year.

Re: Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan-Nov 21, 2
the symbolism cannot be missed:
1. Out of the blue (first of all) atmospherics
2. Christmas Day diplomacy (in Pak) - a statement about minorities would be interesting.
3. Flying in from Afghanistan
4. Jinnah's Birthday
Of course Modi is surprising the crap out of everybody.
