The Levant crisis.(Israel,SYRIA,Lebanon,etc) - II
Re: The Levant crisis.(Israel,SYRIA,Lebanon, etc) - II
question is where do the rats hide and rest when they are not attacking. drones should be used to tail them back to their burrows and bomb them there using glonass guided heavies. Rus need to keep a few drones onsite at deir azzor airbase.
at present IS holds the initiative when to attack and retreat and they can keep bringing up fresh cannon fodder from north and south.

Reminescent of Vietnam? They are sending wave after wave, hoping to break through eventually regardless of number of casualties. Fight to the last Paki? Yes, I hope Gen. Vodkovich is reading this and getting more heavy bombers from Russia - hitting them during their rest periods is the way to turn this into a rout.
I guess if they let up pressure on Deir ez Zor, the General will install vodka facilities at the airport and bring in attack helicopters and jets, bringing the entire region within swift attack range.

Jan24 scenes from Terminator, ruins everywhere, fire and smoke and in between the shadowy figures running around firing, and the hulking gen zahredine moving around co-ordinating the defences.
there is footage of two IS suicide bombers each wearing a explosive vest with a grenade pin type release mechanism. one is a young boy around 16.

banzai on saipan ww2:
By 7 July, the Japanese had nowhere to retreat. Saito made plans for a final suicidal banzai charge. On the fate of the remaining civilians on the island, Saito said, "There is no longer any distinction between civilians and troops. It would be better for them to join in the attack with bamboo spears than be captured."
At dawn, with a group of 12 men carrying a great red flag in the lead, the remaining able-bodied troops — about 3,000 men — charged forward in the final attack. Amazingly, behind them came the wounded, with bandaged heads, crutches, and barely armed.
The Japanese surged over the American front lines, engaging both army and Marine units. The 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 105th Infantry Regiment were almost destroyed, losing 650 killed and wounded.
However, the fierce resistance of these two battalions, as well as that of Headquarters Company, 105th Infantry, and supply elements of 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Artillery Regiment resulted in over 4,300 Japanese killed. For their actions during the 15-hour Japanese attack, three men of the 105th Infantry were awarded the Medal of Honor — all posthumously. Numerous others fought the Japanese until they were overwhelmed by the largest Japanese Banzai attack in the Pacific War.[10]

firstly ISIS will never overcome DeZ.
they need to deal with the Sheytat tribe at the periphery, which have become sworn enemies of ISIS. And this tribe is 100,000 strong. Though not are located at DeZ military airport periphery villages.
then they need to deal with the Republican guards and others who guard the airport and periphery.
And now there is RuAF. If nothing else they will decimate ISIS staging areas, if they make any big formations. So the ISIS have to attack DeZ in pairs or a dozen best at a time.
And like Pathankot airbase attack, small number do not make a difference.

whether it is Marco Rubio, Donald Trump, Hitlery Klingon, everyone is talking tough on Iran.
So the brief to the next USA president is that you gotta go after Iran, and if the deep state likes your message on Iran we will back you.
so this Iran lull is just like Libya lull after Gaddafi accord with western leaders. They are using this lull to soften Iran up.
don't go to Iran via Syria, go directly to Iran.

deir ezzor truly has a incredible history - its the end of the line where lakhs have died. i only hope the 1-2 lakh civilians are relieved before its too late.
FSA/Nusra led the revolution from 2011-2014 when the IS came from south and threw them out mercilessly. in end 2014 the republican guard of zahredinne arrived by a road convoy and have been there ever since , there have been 100s of battles and incursions there.
in the WW2, indian and nepali regiments from out of jordan and iraq attacked the vichy french syrian army from the south and captured deir azzor, raqqa and aleppo..same tactics used to flank japan forces in the british surge into north myanmar later
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Deir_ez-Zor
it was also where lakhs of armenians were rounded up from anatolia and sent to die in the desert, with merciless turki guards pillaging and shooting all the way

Re: The Levant crisis.(Israel,SYRIA,Lebanon, etc) - II
there is a lot of massing of regime forces in western aleppo for an imminent offensive. After Latakia this is going to be 'the front', but exactly which part of western aleppo is going to be encircled first remains to be seen. Turks have seen this coming and are asking their pet Nusrats to go and connect a corridor from aleppo to Jarablus as fast as possible. This attempt by Nusrats to occupy new areas hitherto occupied by other rebels is the main reason for infighting in aleppo.
anyways syrian war is tactically finished now, there is nothing isis or nusrats can do to retrieve the situation. they are losing cadre and motivation faster than they can talk back to them. cadres of these rebels are leaving in droves via turkey to EU at any opportunity they can.

kurds (YPG) and SDF are reportedly planning offensive to squeeze the Azaz to Jarablus 100km ISIS corridor from both ends, since despite Kerry sir's promises to seal the border, turkey has done nothing other than reinforcing its moves against kurds.
like the final battle in LOTR-3 everyone with any vested interest is coming to minas tirith (north aleppo) for the final climactic battle. SAA have been building up for months now. there are reports a offensive has started in west aleppo from the south "tiger forces" to drive off the miscreants who shell the place daily.

few things the US can easily do if interested in helping the good guys:
1. put a leash on the attack dog turkey and make them sit this one out. monitor the border with drones and make sure turkish army does not intervene or shell to help out their munnas
2. provide air cover and assault boats (fly them into the kurdish areas and airlift them using CH53 helis) to permit significant kurd/sdf forces to cross the euphrates and attack Manbij. this is now the main ISIS link to turkey via jarablus. azaz is a war zone between various factions and russian AF also bombs the road regularly.
3. depute some help to build temporary bridges so that follow on forces can cross in trucks and resupply.

Idlib province still remains almost entirely under Nusra/Sham hands though...the green to the left of above map.
if they have any sense, will melt away with their tails between legs and head to comfortable EU quarters rather than get squeezed from both latakia and aleppo fronts later. there is no future for them in syria.
when not if Idlib and jisr al shugur are recaptured , they will be like rats trapped in a barrel. geneva conventions will not apply to such bandits. justice meted out by the freed people will be merciless.

Re: The Levant crisis.(Israel,SYRIA,Lebanon, etc) - II
Where do the ISIS rats go when not attacking is a known answer. ISIS isn't exactly brave, ethical fighting force. When not fighting, they go back to their captured villages often staying in houses where owners have been evicted or sometimes even sharing it. Most of the time they stick close to the civilian population so that they are not targeted for fear of collateral damage. At other times, they seek shelter in heritage sites, mosques, places of national importance to Syrians.
Attack on Palmyra has been held off partly because of this threat of destruction of heritage sights. However, near Dier Ez Zor, Russians finally took out this big hideout from ISIS finally, though it doesn't make the Russians popular in the "free" (pro NATO) world.
Secondly, Dier ez Zor area under SAA is fairly large and hence the airbase is effective. This is a major thorn in the ISIS backside.
Third and the reason for current onslaught is to divert the Russian and SAA effort away from Manbij and Jarbalus (here its not SAA but SDF), Al Bab, Qulamun, Palmyra, Raqqa etc and push SAA on the defensive at Dier Ez Zor.
Fourth, this purely my conjecture, there is something about Euphrates that fascinates ISIS and Dier Ez Zor is the only big town in Syria situated on the big river not under them. Pertinent here is the warning of Turkey to YPG on crossing West of Euphrates and the fact that ISIS expanded eastwards towards Iraq and not westwards where rest of the rebels attacked. These developments are to me worth keeping in mind when trying to decipher this new phenomena of ideologically guided and Terrorist created pseudo states. ISIS believes in particular brand of Islam and in the legends, myths and realities of this sect lie answers to what drives their strategy. I am not sure if Salafis have a thing for both the Euphrates and Tigris but to me it sure looks like an important factor in their strategies.

On why ISIS is desperate for Dier Ez Zor, one can hazard a few guesses but good guesses. In the Syrian part of ISIS territory if we forget the maps we are conventionally shown, the empty spaces are all ISIS territory, shaded black, and not unshaded as shown in the maps. The only reason they can't convince their followers of this is because of the little red patch held by the SAA in the middle at Dier Ez Zor. Hence for three years they have used every opportunity to attack Dier Ez Zor but for the Shaitat tribe as pointed by Habal ji, the town would have fallen.Mark

At some stage Gen. Vodkov should offer a limited amnesty to any rats wishing to leave Palmyra, Raqqa etc on a 1-way escorted, unarmed trip into Turkey. Or maybe a free airlift to Mecca for an early Haj. Would be interesting to see reaction from Turdogan and KSA to having these Sons of Sunnistan return home.
I think this would trigger/aggravate massacres inside said cities, of anyone on ISIS payroll suspected of wanting to exit. Either way, more rats dead.

It's a shame IAF isn't bombing these rats to oblivion. Would've also been a nice battle experience. ISIS has already attacked the Indian consulate, it's a good enough reason. Gotta be more proactive, no point in waiting till these cockroaches reach our shores.

I've been predicting the unified shia-kurd arc for some time. If the Turks want to buy a little more time before their civil war they have to do it very soon. Otherwise, its the beginning of the end of Sunni hegemony over the Islamic world.

I don't see that Gen. Vodkov will have any inhibitions at this point about supplying Kurds in Syria - or having them "cross the oi-fritis". Erdogan can threaten all he wants - Putin is probably waiting for the Turks to invade so that the Backfires etc can be really put to good use. Lots of Su-35 pilots waiting for the chance, I am sure. Both sides of Bosporus, and Constantiopol will also burn in that event. Fact that Turkey == ISIS is now well accepted, I have a hard time seeing US public approving going to war against Russia to save turkey.
Then again, I thought there was no way US would be stupid enough to invade Eyerak back in 2003.
