The re-merger proposal is ostensibly timed with the international troops pullout from Afghanistan.
Ministry of External Affairs officials would not confirm whether they had been informed of the move they described as an “internal” matter of the U.S. government. However, asked about the possible impact of bringing India and Pakistan under one bureau again, the former National Security Adviser, Shiv Shankar Menon, said: “It looks like a re-hyphenation of the India-Pakistan equation that is not in our interest. Our relationship has grown because it stood on its own, as it is important that bilateral relations with India won’t be overshadowed by its relations with the region.”
The de-hyphenation policy of the U.S. was crystallised when the SRAP was set up in 2009 soon after President Barack Obama had taken over, with the appointment of Richard Holbrooke.
At the time, Mr. Holbrooke had hoped to include India in his mandate, and even to discuss the resolution of Kashmir as a means to extract greater cooperation from Pakistan. India had strongly opposed the move.
According to a diplomatic cable published by the whistle-blower website WikiLeaks which was accessed by The Hindu , the then External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, had objected to this when U.S. Ambassador David Mulford paid a farewell call on him.
“He expressed his deep concern about a special envoy with a broad regional mandate that could be interpreted to include Kashmir, and shared his hope that the U.S.-India relationship not be viewed through the lens of regional crises,” Mr. Mulford recorded of Mr. Mukherjee’s message. (http://bit.ly/1QAu279).
Subsequently, Mr. Holbrooke remained only engaged with NATO and Af-Pak affairs until his death some years later, and was followed by subsequent SRAPs. “Even when U.S. officials wanted to discuss the situation in Afghanistan or Pakistan with us, we would insist they didn’t travel to us via Islamabad,” a senior MEA official working on the Americas desk in those years told The Hindu .
Mr. Menon, who was Foreign Secretary at the time, had also repeated the message of de-hyphenating the ties in his talks with the then Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, other cables from WikiLeaks record. “We didn’t want to be party to U.S. actions in Afghanistan at the time,” explained Mr. Menon.
“We don’t believe in talking to the Taliban, for example, so how would we manage that conversation.”
Third party
Other officials objected to U.S. involvement as a “third party” in talks with Pakistan, which would become the case if special representatives would travel between Delhi and Islamabad regularly.
“We also saw that many of the officials including Mr. Holbrooke saw regional solutions through the ‘Pakistan prism’, which is why our relations really improved only after the two desks were separated,” a former official said.
There are indications, however, that even as the U.S. is planning to bring the desks back together, India may not object as strenuously as it did in 2009. {Because, we are increasingly getting more 'sold out' to the US, euphemistically called 'closer cooperation'.}
To begin with, India has dropped its objections to talks with the Taliban in the past few months, instead asking to be “kept in the loop” on developments in the U.S. talks on Af-Pak.
In a major shift in December, India decided to supply 4 Mi35 attack helicopters to Afghan security forces, the first such transfer of lethal military hardware, and a move that would have required U.S. approval.
Indian officials also point out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government are being consulted more often by the U.S. government on matters relating to Afghanistan, and 2015 saw the first visits by two U.S. Generals in combat to India, as well as a visit by Cameron Munter to Delhi, shortly after he demitted office as U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan.
In December 2015, the visit of SRAP Richard Olson to Delhi, just before his visit to Islamabad was another key indicator of the shift in New Delhi’s position on the ‘re-hyphenation’ of U.S. visits to India and Pakistan. Asked about the State Department’s possible move to bring together the officials and desks handling both, a senior official told The Hindu : “It would be good for us,” adding that the merger “would introduce a balance between the two” when it came to advocating India’s point of view. {Terrible}
When contacted by The Hindu , the U.S. embassy in Delhi, and the State Department refused to comment on the possible move, calling the reports “rumours” at present.

ramana, anything is possible in Pakistan. Even the plane that took Nawaz & Raheel to Riyadh could have carried the bombs. We know what Benazir did with her trench-coat when returning from North Korea. In any case, Pakistan is frequently moving its nuclear assets in unmarked and un-guarded trucks. Any such truck parked near an aircraft will be suspicious, especially in remote places like Dalbandin etc.

Showdown Between Aam Abduls At PIA and Paki Govt Over Union Activity
PIA standoff: Govt ups the ante by banning union activity
PIA standoff: Govt ups the ante by banning union activity
ISLAMABAD: In a move to stall an impending strike, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday enforced the Essential Services (Maintenance) Act 1952 for six months, barring protesting members of the Pakistan International Airlines (which also "doubles" as a "personal taxi" for Ganja and his family) from participating in any union activity.
"Any person found guilty of an offence under this Act shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year and shall also be liable to a fine," the legislation reads.
(wow! such a bombastic statement -typical of Paki politicians; hope he is able to make good on this !)The law essentially restricts union activity in state-administered sectors, including railways, postal services, telephone and affiliated services, and airports and seaports.
The aviation division had sent a summary to the prime minister which was approved today.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, talking to reporters after the enforcement of the Act, made clear that strict action will be taken against protesting employees.
“Let me make clear that those who continue the strike will be treated as enemies of PIA and Pakistan and they will end up losing their jobs.”
(this is a false common mantra; inevitably there are job losses, so the fears of the Aam Abduls are genuine ).Rashid said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had made clear that no PIA employee will be laid off during privatisation, reiterating that the government will not tolerate strikes.
Soon after the PM's decision to enforce the Essential Services Act was announced, Chief of Joint Action Committee of PIA's protesting employees Capt Sohail Baloch told journalists that the body will go ahead with the strike they had announced earlier.
"We are going to go ahead with our plan. I don't know what the restrictions are... but if there are any restrictions we are ready to face them, even if we are baton-charged," he said.
"The government has till 7am tomorrow for negotiations, after that we will go on strike," he said.![]()
Not to mention that pilots are caught trying to FUI (flying under influence!),pilots are selected for the job on "sifarish", rather than competency, putting passengers life on risk, staff are charged for human and/or cargo smuggling, diseased food being served on board, passengers are "accomodated" on plane toilets due to overbooking "errors" and the list goes on and on ...PIA — 'Perhaps I'll Arrive'
Once a source of pride for the country, PIA's decay has made it the butt of jokes, one of which goes that its initials actually stand for 'Perhaps I'll Arrive'.
Flights are regularly cancelled and engineers say they have to cannibalise some planes to keep others flying.

In an interview with Reuters in 2014, Pakistan's privatisation minister Mohammad Zubair had said that PIA's employee-to-aircraft ratio, at around 600, is one of the worst in the world and keeps going up as more planes are grounded.![]()

Alyssa Ayres has been a pro-india voice in washington. Quote from the same articleA_Gupta wrote:2014 story on SRAP, SCA merger http://www.forbes.com/sites/alyssaayres ... 4e24162bf7
It would be interesting to analyse what harm was brought to our interest because of separate SRAP and SCA and what benefits the merger would bring. As I have argued elsewhere, we particularly need to dramatically increase the scope of our consultations and coordination on Afghanistan with regional power India–the fifth largest bilateral donor to Afghanistan and a partner with clear security concerns in the region. A seamless overview of U.S. relations throughout the SCA region, and the impact of the coming drawdown in Afghanistan, would be far easier to accomplish if our focused diplomacy towards Afghanistan and Pakistan was embedded within the South and Central Asia bureau. Secretary Kerry, now’s the perfect time to fold SRAP back into SCA.
It is possible a sheer bureaucracy can ensure SCA and SRAP had no or minimum co-ordination with each other. And if SCA manages strategic relationship with India then India could not get leverage on SRAP. By merging two India can push it's agenda in Afghanistan. On the other hand if we lower our guard then the merger could bring harm to our interest due to pakistan-centric SRAP bureaucrats now part of SCA+SRAP. Interesting game to play.

Pakistan to blame for ‘bad blood’ with Afghanistan: Imran Khan

In an exclusive interview given to Voice of America (VOA), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan has emphasised the need for both Pakistan and Afghanistan to remove tensions in bilateral ties and build mutual trust to assist the reconciliation process.
“I am very sad that the relationship is not good and I am also sad to say that Pakistan is to blame. We did not have consistent policies dealing with Afghanistan and then the interference in the past in affairs of Afghans has caused a lot of bad blood,” he said.
Cheers“I think in future I see very good relationship between the two countries. I think there is a realisation in Pakistan that the mistakes were made. We feel that we have to correct this bad blood caused by flawed policies,” Khan said.

Celebrations In Karachi - London police removes Altaf Hussain’s bail conditions over lack of evidence

KARACHI: The London Metropolitan Police on Monday informed Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain that his bail conditions, in an ongoing money laundering probe, had been removed as there was insufficient evidence to bring a criminal charge against him.( so all this hoopla against Altaf Bhai, - quality of the evidence was not upto par - amounted to naught; however, doubt if press ban on him will be removed )
Altaf Hussain’s police bail was extended for a fifth time on Oct 5, 2015, since his June 3, 2014, arrest in London and, according to an MQM statement issued on Monday, he was due to “return to a South London police station on Tuesday ...
Deep State must be "disappointed"But a few hours after the release of the above mentioned statement, the party issued another statement claiming that the Met police sent a “bail cancellation notice” to Altaf Hussain and the two senior London-based MQM leaders — Muhammad Anwar and Tariq Mir.
They party leaders were informed that “there is no need for any of you to attend the police station” and that “the bail conditions currently in place are therefore removed”, the MQM statement said.

The source explained that the cancellation of police bail meant that there would be no restriction on Altaf Hussain’s international travel so he can still travel to Massaland, where he has" many supporters ")and he would not be bound to appear before investigators until they got any fresh evidence.
Celebrations at Nine ZeroIn Karachi, the news sparked widespread celebrations at the MQM’s Nine Zero headquarters, where scores of workers and supporters gathered and danced to the tunes of party songs.
“We were prepared for the worst,” said a senior MQM leader, referring to a possibility that the investigators could have charged Hussain in his Tuesday’s appearance. “But it was a collective decision that we would not seek an extension in bail and contest all charges, if filed, legally.”Social media was also abuzz with the news and hashtag #AltafWinsAgain became top Twitter trend in the country by the evening.
It will be "very difficult" for the Pakjabi dominated Govt Of Pakiland to eliminate MQM and Altaf Bhai from dominating the Karachi (and Sind) political scene !The money laundering investigation was launched after the Metropolitan Police discovered hundreds of thousands of pounds during two raids — one on an MQM office and another on Altaf Hussain’s residence in London. The raids were conducted in connection with the investigation into Dr Imran Farooq’s murder.

Six Arabs stopped from hunting houbara bustards

KARACHI: Six Arab hunters of houbara bustard with 11 falcons were held by wildlife staffers in Thatta district early on Sunday morning for lack of hunting permits but were released later and sent back to Karachi as they had not yet started hunting the bird, it is learnt here.Sources said the hunters from Qatar were guests of a local host associated with the wildlife department in Sujawal and had political connections. (ah-ha the all important sifarish!)
They arrived in the area on Saturday and after having enjoyed overnight hospitality the Qatari hunters with the 11 falcons and local host camped near the Keenjhar lake. But before they could venture to hunt the bird they were stopped by the wildlife staffers.( Sometime, the Paki left hand, does not know what the right hand is doing ; just the other day, in Chagai, a Saudi Prince, was not only not denied permission for a same hunt, but was accorded a "red carpet welcome" by the "whole Baluchistan bureaucracy", including officials from the Wildlife Dept)
The sources said that local police who were also helping the hunters and their host issued threats to the wildlife staffers(is it possible that they were "angling" for future jobs in Qatar?) to scare them away but they refused to let them break the law and informed high-ups about the situation.
So, the "poor" wildlife officials were just "doing their job"Hyderabad deputy wildlife conservator Ghulam Mohammad Gadani told Dawn that when the wildlife staffers saw the police providing protection to the hunters instead of helping them, they called him (Mr Gadani) and he immediately contacted the Thatta police chief, who ordered the police to assist the wildlife staffers.
The official said the Qatari hunters –– who were travelling in three land cruiser jeeps and two double cabin trucks –– did have permits for the falcons but they did not possess permit to hunt houbara bustards. They were therefore asked to leave the area accompanied by wildlife staffers.

Houbara, a resident of colder Central Asian region, migrates southwards to avoid the harsh weather conditions at home and spend the winter in a relatively warm environment in South Asia.
The bird’s meat is considered to be an aphrodisiac and is sought after by Arab hunters (but should not their (Qatari ) family doctors prescribe them "****", which is of course cheaper, and in this way not kill the "endangered species ")who are issued special permits to hunt the internationally protected bird.
The Supreme Court had imposed a ban sometime back on the issuance of special permits to Arab hunters but recently the SC reviewed its decision and allowed the issuance of permits. (One of the pillars of Paki phoren policy !)

Bangladesh, Pakistan briefly detain each other's embassy staff - PTI
In a tit-for-tat, Bangladesh and Pakistan have reportedly detained each other's diplomatic staff amid a spat between them over the 1971 war crimes trial.
Bangladesh foreign ministry officials said the personal officer of a Bangladeshi diplomat in Islamabad went missing yesterday and returned home "unhurt" early this morning.
"Our High Commissioner in Islamabad briefly talked to Jahangir Hossain (who went missing) as he returned. We are trying to know the details what actually happened to him," a foreign ministry spokesman told PTI.
He said Hossain had left the office yesterday to pick his daughter before going home but went missing as he went out of the High Commission and his cell phone too remained switched off.
"Our High Commission immediately informed the matter to the Pakistan foreign ministry and law enforcement agencies there and conveyed the incident to the foreign office in Dhaka," the spokesman said.
The incident came hours after police in Dhaka detained Abrar Ahmed Khan, an official of Pakistan High Commission here for his "suspicious movement".
A spokesman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police earlier said the detectives detained Abrar Khan for questioning following his suspicious movement and was handed over to officials of the Pakistan High Commission after taking undertaking from him.
But the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka in a statement said it noticed "a disturbing pattern of harassment of its officers and officials, followed by a mud-slinging campaign and media trial".
It said Bangladesh Police and security agencies were accusing the Pakistani mission staffers of having ties to militants.
Diplomatic sources here said the incident of Hossain's missing seemed to be a counter action on what happened in Dhaka the same day.
The developments came a month after Islamabad withdrew a female diplomat posted in Dhaka amid an uproar over her suspected links to Islamist terrorists nearly 12 months after Bangladesh expelled another Pakistani on identical charges.
Fareena Arshad, a second secretary in the Pakistan high commission, had left Dhaka two days after Bangladesh sought her withdrawal as police said a detained operative of outlawed Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh reported that she maintained links with the outfit.
Dhaka-Islamabad ties have witnessed tension over Pakistan's sharp reactions following executions of two major 1971 war crimes convicts Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, who were found guilty of carrying out atrocities during the liberation war against Pakistan.

Paki Airline Standoff Turns Ugly; Now Two Dead

Obviously, someone is going to "make a lot of money" in pushing this" privatization solution"; but, as is usually the case, the Pakis are probably under lots of pressure from national and international creditors to "control" this monster bureaucracy !KARACHI: In a bid to disperse protesting Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees at Jinnah Terminal, security personnel resorted to baton-charging and using rubber bullets, water cannons and tear gas shells on Tuesday, as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called for implementation of the Essential Services Act.
Two protesters died after sustaining bullet wounds. Rangers and police deny "handling protesters violently" and firing at the site of the clash./quote]A heavy contingent of Rangers and police personnel were deployed at the site to prevent protesters from entering the cargo gate and moving onto Jinnah Avenue, DawnNews reported. An injured protester Inayat Raza, who sustained a bullet wound in his chest during the protest, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital. Raza was a member of PIA's engineering department.
Another injured person, Saleem, who also sustained bullet wounds died at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Complex (JPMC), spokesman Dr Seemi Jamali confirmed. She said at least ten injured people were admitted to JPMC, two of whom were critical. The blame game has now started in earnestDeputy Inspector General East Kamran Fazal said bullet casings were collected to ascertain who opened fire on the protesters. He claimed the bullets were not fired by policemen. "We instructed our personnel not to handle the protesters violently. We are trying to find out who initiated the clash," he said.
"No Rangers personnel has fired to control the protest at Jinnah Terminal today," Rangers Public Relations Officer said in an official statement.
Imran Khan announces countrywide protests on Feb 6
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday afternoon said his party will hold country-wide protests against the privatisation of PIA and the killing of two protesting employees outside the Karachi airport.
Khan criticised the government for what he called "expansive" development projects such as the Orange Line, and for not slashing oil and diesel prices in line with the international price slump.
Immy takes advantage of the situation to push his Anti-Ganja agenda
An official at BBIA said flight operations were continuing as scheduled and would not be affected even later in the day. Television footage showed a heavy contingent of police deployed at BBIA for added security.
An official at AlIA said check-in was open for flights and "all flights so far had run on time".
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a high-level meeting on Tuesday instructed implementation of the Essential Services Act.
National institutions will not be used for political motives, he said, adding that steps are being taken to turn the national flag carrier into a profitable organisation.
He advised the interior ministry to deal with major strikes regarding the issue and said PIA operations must not come to a halt.
Privatisation of PIA
The National Assembly on January 21 witnessed the passage of six bills, including one to convert the national flag carrier into a public limited company.
Under the bill, Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) is to be converted into a public limited company as Pakistan International Airlines Company Limited (PIACL).
PIACL will get all the assets, liabilities, duties and obligations of PIAC. Similarly, PIACL would be entitled to the benefit of all notifications, licences, permissions, sanctions, authorisations, concessions, decrees, international air service authorisations, agreements, orders and benefits issued or granted in favour of PIAC.

Disquiet over Karachi temple desecration

Disquiet over Karachi temple desecration
KARACHI: The glow from a row of lit clay oil lamps reflected on the three beautifully decorated deities of Shitala Mata, Santoshi Mata and Bhavani Mata at the small temple located inside a small home in the quarters near Gate no 5 of Karachi Zoological Gardens...
Other than the Maharaj and his family, the caretakers of this temple, nobody else was there.
“The people are afraid of coming here for puja now after the attack,” explained Maharaj Hira Lal.
He was referring to the incident on the evening of Jan 21 when during Durga puja there, three bearded men in shalwar and kameez(the national attire of Pakiland !) stormed the place, waving TT pistols and ordering everyone to stop and get out. The panic and scuffle that followed resulted in desecration of the temple as a goddess deity, Bhavani Mata, lost one of its left arms. “We don’t know who those men were. We have never seen them before,” the Maharaj said.
About the significance of this little temple, he said it was built as a small place for puja by his paternal grandfather soon after he moved to Pakistan from India some 60 years ago....![]()
...Maharaj added. “I know I should have registered this temple long ago but I don’t know how to go about it, quite frankly. Puja-paat is all that I know,” he said.
Such happenings are going to occur more frequently, as the Pakis vent their frustration and blame the minorities for all their ills“There are four Hindu households in the quarters near gate no 5 of the zoo and 15 more near gate no 1. More who have heard about the miracles of this temple travel here from all over the city. But all have stopped coming here now after being threatened. Word spreads around fast. We are handful of peace-loving members of a religious minority. We feel extremely insecure after what has happened,” he concluded.

Anupam Kher denied visa for Bakistan
http://www.rediff.com/news/report/pakis ... 160202.htm
Non-issuance of a visa by the Pakistani government has led to the cancellation of actor Anupam Kher's participation in the Karachi literary festival starting February 5.
Kher was one of the 18 Indians invited to the four-day festival by the organisers but he is the only one whose visa has not been cleared. The other 17 Indian participants have been given visas.
Kher, who has just been honoured with Padma Bhushan by the Indian government, was to participate in at least two sessions and his name figured prominently in the festival schedule.
Confirming that he has not been issued a visa, Kher on Tuesday said that he was very saddened by the development as he was looking forward to participate in the festival and use the platform to dispel misunderstandings in the minds of people there.
"We welcome their artistes in India. If there are objections to their performance at one place in India they are welcome at other places. But there is no reciprocity," he said.
As to why his visa has not been issued, Kher said, "I wish I knew. I am wondering if it is because I am a Kashmiri Pandit or because of my views on the tolerance debate in India."
Kher said the visa denial has left the festival organisers embarrassed and they have apologised to him.
When contacted, Pakistan High Commission's head of media Manzoor Memon said, "Mr Anupum Kher has never submitted visa application to Pakistan High Commission....
"Please check out from him if he has any receipt," he added.
Rejecting Pakistan High Commission's contention that he had not applied for visa, Kher called it a "laughable explanation". He said organisers had completed the formalities for the visa.
"I do not know why they denied me the visa. Is it because of my patriotism, because I talk about my country. Is it because I do not go to that country and critcise my country there. I do not speak the language of terrorists. There can be millions of
reasons," said Kher.
The actor said he would request the government to take up the issue with Pakistan, adding he had planned to speak about India, its tolerance among other issues.
Sources in the Pakistan government said in Karachi since Kher is very much active and vocal in the social media on sensitive issues pertaining to religion and Indo-Pak relations he was not asked to submit his application.
The KLF spokesperson said around 35 invitees from abroad are participating in the festival including from the US, Britain and Bangladesh besides India.
On Pakistan High Commission's claim that he had not applied for the visa, Kher said if it was true then how 17 others got the document and that why the organisers had put his name in their posters.
"They are telling a lie. I do not have to do it. The organisers had done it," the actor said.
Festival co-founder Ameena Saiyed said they were not given any reason behind the visa denial.
"He has not been issued a visa. Well, I haven't been given the reasons. My own thinking is, it's probably because of the statements he has been making in India for past couple of weeks," Saiyed said.
While accepting that literature and politics cannot be separated, Saiyed felt the Bollywood star's presence would have given the Karachi audience a different perspective.
"We had organised an exclusive session of him with Ashok Chopra with a very large audience. People would have asked him questions about his views. He would have had a chance to talk to them, to engage with them, to answer their questions and in the process some understanding would have developed," she told a news channel.
"His coming here could have made such a difference. It might even have led to some change in his opinions or it might have changed or would have resulted in more understanding of his views, but it is only when you come face to face," she said.

Anupam Kher lashes out at Pakistan govt after visa refusal
Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher lashed out at Pakistani government after he was rejected a visa to the country to attend the Karachi Literature Festival.
The actor was due to travel to Pakistan to attend the Karachi Literature Festival starting from February 5, according to CNN-IBN News. ”Of 18 people, 17 granted visa except me,” the actor told the newspaper.
However, the report added that a source in the Pakistan High Commission said that Kher has not even applied for a visa.
“Has my visa been denied because I speak about India’s rich tradition of tolerance or I am a Kashmiri Pandit who may expose Pak terror nexus?” Kher questioned.
“Didn’t Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs red flag my name to Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi? Why hide facts deliberately?” he further asked.
The actor further said that he will be presenting all proofs and documents to prove Pakistan High Commission’s lie that he didn’t apply for visa and announced a press conference at his school.(sooner the better)
The annual Karachi Literature Festival is all set to kick off from February 5. This year, the literary festival promises to bring together 262 speakers, including 38 who will be flying in from outside the country. There will be 100 sessions spread over three days, ending February 7. Eight countries will be represented and 21 books will be launched.

Four Year Old Child Who Wanted To Be A Pilot Now Collateral Damage In " Paki War Against Terrorism"
PESHAWAR: The death of four years old Shahzeb Afridi in the recent suicide bombing in Jamrud, Khyber Agency, left people in tears.
His father Shah Faisal and mother also perished in the blast that took place close to the police post in the Karkhano Market on January 19. The site of the devastating explosion was near the boundary between Khyber Agency and Peshawar district.-
The explosion killed 13 people, including Nawab Shah and other Khassadar personnel and tribal journalist Mahboob Shah Afridi. -
The desperately poor family had experienced suffering in recent years due to militancy and military operations. It was displaced from Bara and had to seek refuge in the Jalozai Camp in Nowshera district where living conditions were tough. It had recently returned to Bara along with other families repatriated to their homes. -
Shah Faisal was an unskilled labourer who did menial jobs in Bara to earn livelihood. He had four children - two elder sons Alamzeb and Amjad and a one and half year daughter. With his death and that of his wife, his three surviving children have become orphans.-
Sooner or later, there is bound to be a big blowback in the civil war (it cannot be defined anything else ! ) that is currently going on over in that province ....the school head teacher Khan Gul remembered him as a talented and obedient boy who took keen interest in his studies and was neat and clean. “Shahzeb was one of our shining stars. He used to say he wanted to become a pilot and defend the country against enemies,” Head Teacher Khan Gul added. -

Zarb-e-Azb in danger of losing its way By Ayaz Amir

It’s not the same as before; the zing has gone out of it. In Fata the operation is becoming a stalemate. Terrorist forces have been hit, badly hit, but they aren’t defeated. And their ability to mount maverick attacks such as the most recent in Charsadda is not to be ignored.
And the religious worldview, or rather the extremist worldview which is the ideological basis for the assault on the Pakistani state, is still there. Pakistan hasn’t become a more secular or ‘liberal’ place as a result of our war against terrorism.-
For we remain for the most part as we were. Bribery in all walks of life, corruption, the state of justice, governmental efficiency, the mess on our roads, anything you can think of, it’s still all the same. - ( and Inshallah will remain the same)
Zarb-e-Azb has been a pure military operation with no effort on the political front to initiate the socio-economic restructuring needed to make Pakistan a more efficient and forward-looking country, it has reached a plateau. What had to be done has been done. The enemy has been dislodged from his earlier positions but he survives…licking his wounds and planning his fresh moves. And the Pakistani state is where it was with all its accumulated inefficiencies – and corruption and commission-taking in high places and low still continuing as if Pakistan had never been in a state of war. -
In Karachi something else is happening. The army command is getting bogged down in a side-battle, involving the PPP and Dr Asim Hussain. (Dus Percenti is the real target here ?)
Now the PPP may be all things, it may be the last word in corruption and mis-governance, guilty of every sin in the calendar, but not even its enemies can accuse it of having a soft corner for terrorism – whether the secular brand of terrorism which was the MQM’s forte or the Islamic revivalist brand of terror practised by the TTP and its many acolytes. In fact, despite all their other sins, the PPP and the ANP have been the greatest victims of terrorism. Let us not forget this.
Asim Hussain may be no one’s idea of an angel...ut a sponsor of terrorism? Come my masters, this strains the imagination. And he has been in custody for months and there is still no proper charge-sheet against him -
No one will touch our old friend Maulana Aziz of Lal Masjid. His greatest apologist is the government itself. -
When the Aam Abduls of Pakiland rise up with their Islamic zeal, Pakjabi landlords, whisky drinking Ex Fauji afsars (and writers like him ) better watch out and be ready to flee for less greener pasturesThe army was successful in Fata and the Rangers were successful in Karachi. (depends on the definition of "successful" )

Satire Piece ! Bad Sharif To Retire After 2019 World Cup

The press conference was held at the Qaddafi stadium there was no lack of government representation at the event, with the Prime minister present and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Defense Minister Khwaja Asif even spotted bowling to the Chief. The Chief was rather adamant to point out that these were merely ‘try balls’ and so Nawaz Sharif would have to wait (forever !) for his batting. The chief has been especially concerned about the fielding of the team in recent years but the middle order void left open by the departure of Misbah ...
Regarding the question (that should be) on every Pakistanis mind, of whether an extension is constitutional or not, the chief produced this photo and said:...![]()

Chini Blother To Be "Honest Broker" In Meeting Between DG- ISI And Afghan Intelligence Chief

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – In a bid to restore bilateral confidence after January 20 terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University, Charsadda; the head of Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) is due to meet his Pakistan counterpart DG ISI Let-General Rizwan Akhtar on February 4 in Islamabad.
(India shut out !)The NDS chief Masoud Andarabi will hold meetings with Pakistan’s top military leadership as well, to explain his Kabul’s stance over recent allegation of Islamabad that Afghan soil was used by militant to attack Pakistani university.
Sources told Daily Pakistan Global that the visit is being made on pressure of United States while a Chinese observer will also be present in the meeting between chiefs of ISI and NDS.
Earlier the proposed Afghan-led peace talks with Taliban insurgents were pondered? over in two seperate meetings in Islamabad and Kabul separately.
So far none of the representatives of Taliban have attended the dialogue meeting. However the military sources privy to information are of the opinion that the process of consultation between four countries is almost complete and Taliban representatives will attend a meeting in February-end or in mid March to formally start the dialogue between Ashraf Ghani’s government and insurgent groups.

Balochistan now a hotbed of regional, global proxy war: army chief
ISLAMABAD: Army chief General Raheel Sharif has said Balochistan has become a hotbed of proxy wars for regional and global powers pursuing a grand strategy.Speaking at a seminar on peace and prosperity in Quetta on Tuesday, General Raheel said foreign adversaries were more than eager to exploit any opportunity to destabilise Pakistan by “harbouring, training and funding dissidents and militants.”“This is a battle that we all are fighting, and we shall continue to fight till peace prevails across the width and breadth of the province,” he said.General Raheel said the law enforcement agencies and the people of Balochistan had defended the integrity of Pakistan with unflinching resolve.“Terrorists were externally supported and internally facilitated,” he said. The army said issues were further complicated by the foreign interference across a porous border spanning hundreds of kilometers, a challenge for the civil armed forces of the province. For this purpose, efforts are underway for the capacity building of security forces,” he said.

The Hidden Perils Of Madrassah Math :The Govt tinkers with stats to hide swelling debts
(this is one that just got "caught"; there may be countless others!)ISLAMABAD:
In what appears to be a move to hidethe worsening debt situation, the government has tinkered with its latest debt policy statement submitted in the lower house of parliament.
In its debt statement for 2015-16, the government has tried to hide the rapid growth of external debts and liabilities in comparison to its foreign exchange earnings by excluding liabilities, show documents available with The Express Tribune. The borrowings under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and for projects financed outside the national development budget have been excluded from the debt analysis.
By September 2016, the external debt, including liabilities, stood at $66.5 billion. By excluding the liabilities, the figure has been reduced to $51.9 billion – indicating the statement has been tinkered with.![]()
The debt statement is the shortest in recent history, comprising only 35 pages compared with an average 45 pages in the past. (which reinforces the suspicion that "daal mae kuch kala hae !)
The country’s ability to spend on development has also shrunk further, thanks to its increasing spending on debt servicing. In order to hide the rapid pace of rising external debt and liabilities as compared to foreign exchange earnings, the government has for the first time excluded liabilities from its calculations. (he is probably not right on that score!)
The finance ministry’s Debt Policy Coordination Office prepared the statement. Unlike the past, this time the office, which is directly under the finance minister’s control, appears to be defending the government’s moves on external borrowing front. (wonder who will " take the fall" this time - around)
The FRDL Law binds the government to keep public debt below 60% of the total size of national economy. The revenues should be sufficient to finance at least current expenditures – the two most critical conditions the government did not meet again.
The government could also not increase revenues and its receipts were not sufficient to finance even the current expenditures. The revenue deficit – total revenues minus current expenses – stood at Rs471 billion or 1.7% of GDP in 2014-15. Total public debt was recorded at Rs18.2 trillion at the end of September 2015, registering an increase of Rs1.8 trillion or 11% over September 2014.(no wonder, the "brilliant" Ishtiaq Dar,- the UK Chartered Accountant and Finance Minister cum relative of Ganja has been summoned to Dubai by the IMF to explain the situation )

“Muslim Inbreeding: Impacts on intelligence, sanity, health and society”
“Muslim Inbreeding: Impacts on intelligence, sanity, health and society”
The Muslim culture still practices inbreeding and has been doing so for longer than any Egyptian dynasty. This practice also predates the world’s oldest monarchy (the Danish) by 300 years.
A rough estimate shows that close to half of all Muslims in the world are inbred: In Pakistan, 70 percent of all marriages are between first cousins (so-called “consanguinity”) and in Turkey the amount is between 25-30 percent A large part of inbred Muslims are born from parents who are themselves inbred – which increase the risks of negative mental and physical consequences greatly.
The amount of blood related marriages is lower among Muslim immigrants living in the West. Among Pakistanis living in Denmark the amount is down to 40 percent and 15 percent among Turkish immigrantsMore than half of Pakistani immigrants living in Britain are intermarried:The research, conducted by the BBC and broadcast to a shocked nation on Tuesday, found that at least 55% of the community was married to a first cousin. This is thought to be linked to the probability that a British Pakistani family is at least 13 times more likely than the general population to have children with recessive genetic disorders.” (Times of India, 17/11 2005 Ban UK Pakistanis from marrying cousins). The lower percentages might be because it is difficult to get the chosen family member to the country, or because health education is better in the West.
Low intelligence
Several studies show that children of consanguineous marriages have lower intelligence than children of non-related parents. Research shows that the IQ is 10-16 points lower in children born from related parents and that abilities related to social behavior develops slower in inbred babies:“Effects of parental consanguinity on the cognitive and social behavior of children have been studied among the Ansari Muslims of Bhalgapur, Bihar.IQ in inbred children (8-12 years old) is found to be lower (69 in rural and 79 in suburban populations) than that of the outbred ones (79 and 95 respectively). The onset of various social profiles like visual fixation, social smile, sound seizures, oral expression and hand-grasping are significantly delayed among the new-born inbred babies.” (Indian National Science Academy, 1983 Consanguinity Effects on Intelligence Quotient and Neonatal Behaviours of Ansari Muslim Children”).The article “Effects of inbreeding on Raven Matrices” concludes that “Indian Muslim school boys, ages 13 to 15 years, whose parents are first cousins, were compared with classmates whose parents are genetically unrelated on the Raven Standard Progressive Matrices, a nonverbal test of intelligence. The inbred group scored significantly lower and had significantly greater variance than the non-inbred group, both on raw scores and on scores statistically adjusted to control for age and socioeconomic status.” (Beh

Retired army officer SSG Commando arrested in murder case

ISLAMABAD: A retired SSG commando, arrested by the capital police in connection with murder, was also wanted in weapons and suicide jackets recovery case registered with Shahzad Town police in 2011, police said on Monday.
The former officer had served as a Lt-Col in the army and retired in 2005.(is it possible that he served under Mush?)
He was arrested on Saturday by Nilor police on charges of murdering Nazakat Hussain in Kajna village on December 18, 2010.
According to the police, the incident took place after vehicles of Nazakat and the retired officer collided. Both men got into a scuffle, but later left the scene. However, later the retired officer along with his associates attacked Nazakat and his two uncles and seriously injured them.Nazakat died of his injuries at the hospital, the police added.
During investigation, when Nilore police checked his criminal record with Shahzad Town police they came to know that the retired officer was also wanted in connection with the recovery of two missiles, two hand grenades and a suicide jacket from his car on October 8, 2011.("bijness" on the side?)
This is one that unluckily got caught or did not have high enough "sifarish"; imagine how many retired ones are still "doing similar bijness", not to speak of the serving officers in FATA areas, who are "terrorising" the locals and "minting money" on the side .This recovery also led to the arrest of a ‘terrorist’, who later informed the police during interrogation that the retired army officer supplied him with the weapons.
The alleged terrorist also provided information about the weapons he kept in a hideout in Chatta Bakhtawar, from where the police further recovered three suicide jackets, 12 hand grenades, over a dozen detonators, 16 rocket fuse, 14 missiles and weapons.

Will terror freeze Indo-Pak talks? - Indrani Bagchi, ToI
India and Pakistan appear unlikely to go back to meaningful engagement any time soon. In a sign that the Modi government will continue to take a hard stance on Pak-sponsored terror in the wake of the Pathankot attack, national security adviser Ajit Doval on Tuesday said countries that support and sponsor terrorism have to be tackled more vigorously.
Addressing a conference on counter-terrorism in Jaipur, Doval said, "When states feel they can outsource the instrument of coercion to some non-state actors to achieve their political objectives, that has proven to be the most counter productive method. All countries which have tried it have had it boomerang on them."
Doval's remarks indicate a couple of things — first, India is not ready to go back to talking to Pakistan until there is some clear action against terror sources in that country. Second, despite the Modi government's outreach to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, terrorism remains the top concern for India. Doval's remarks are more significant given the context of the India-Pakistan dynamic at present. They also make it clear that for India the most important interaction with Pakistan will be on terrorism.
While he did not name Pakistan, Doval's indication could not be more clear. The world, he said, has been fighting on the periphery. "We have to get to the vitals." He stressed it was important to identify the states which sustain terrorism. "Which are the countries that give them ideological and physical support, weapons and sanctuaries?"
There are countries that support terrorists in international fora when action is sought to be taken against them, he added in a reference to China which stopped the UN Security Council from taking action against Jaish-eMuhammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar in 2015. The terror outfit is also blamed for the Pathankot attack.
The world came together to fight terror after the 9/11attacks in 2001, he said. "Where are in 2015. Casualties are 320% higher. Geographical spread of terror has expanded immensely — we are finding it in areas which had never seen terror before. States' expenditure in terms of money, lives and defence systems has also increased manifold. When the history of the world is written, will it be said that these were the wasted 15 years, which created a sense of insecurity in civil societies," he said.
Looking for lessons in the way the world has fought terror so far, Doval said it was important to assess whether the countries fighting terrorism took the wrong decisions that made things worse for the world today. "If countries have to defeat this menace, they have to smother everything that sustains terror. We have gone to the periphery and the symptoms but not the vitals of terrorism. The vitals are the states that have given support to terror. There must be adequate deterrence against them," Doval said.

Name and shame countries supporting terrorism: India - PTI
India on Wednesday said that countries which support terrorism must be named and shamed, asserting the need for united efforts to combat terror.
Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar while stating this at a security conference in a veiled reference to Pakistan also said that some countries believe that they can buy peace at home by supporting groups for terror outside, which he said, was “delusional”. He did not name any country.
He said India will continue to be in touch with Pakistan with regard to the probe in the terror attack on an IAF base in Pathankot last month.
“Nations which support terrorism must be named and shamed,” Mr. Jaishankar said at the Counter Terrorism Conference 2016 here [Jaipur].
He called for fostering greater international cooperation to fight terrorism while pointing out that even so-called victims of terror do not cooperate on fighting terror on international stage. {Another reference to China, this time from the FS}
Mr. Jaishankar said that governments must show solidarity through a united message condemning terror attacks.
“Since Pathankot attack happened, we have been in touch with Pakistan. We have been in touch at my level and the NSA level because only by remaining in touch, we can expect them to progress on the basis of information which we have provided to them,” he said.
On terrorism in eastern parts of the country, the Foreign Secretary said the Indian government had discussions with Myanmar on fighting terrorism and there is a greater responsiveness to the concerns of India.
“We had some problems with Myanmar and we have also some discussions with them. Some developments took place in the last few months and possibility of terror attacks occurring in the East from beyond the border would come down,” he said in response to a question related to terror activities in the eastern parts of the country.
