Religious parties denounce law protecting women from abuse as 'un-Islamic'
Reuters

LAHORE: An all-parties conference convened by Jamaat-i-Islami and attended by powerful religious groups asked the government on Tuesday to retract an “un-Islamic” law that gives unprecedented protection to female victims of violence.
The Women's Protection Act, passed by Punjab Assembly last month, gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence.
It also calls for the creation of a toll-free abuse reporting hot line, women's shelters and district-level panels to investigate reports of abuse and mandates the use of GPS bracelets to keep track of offenders.
All these modern day measures are obviously UnIslamic
Domestic abuse, economic discrimination and acid attacks made Pakistan the world's third most dangerous country in the world for women, a 2011 Thomson Reuters Foundation expert poll showed.
IMO, they are aiming to be # 1 !
“The controversial law to protect women was promulgated to accomplish the West's agenda to destroy the family system in Pakistan,” read the joint declaration issued at the end of the concrescence.“This act ... is redundant and would add to the miseries of women.”
Earlier this month, the Council of Islamic Ideology, a religious body that advises the government on the compatibility of laws with Islam, declared the Women's Protection Act un-Islamic.
A prominent lawyer has also filed a petition in the top sharia court asking it to strike down the law.
In the wake of Qadri's hanging, NS cannot afford to further alienate the Mullah Brigade; liberalization plans to be put in cold storage -like the national census !

I have two theories about the Somnath terrorist attack and Bakistani "intelligence information" that was supposed to have help.

Theory 1: We already knew enough about it before the Bakistani "intelligence" bleated about it. It means that the terrorists, if apprehended, could have blown plausible deniability of the Bakistani state enabling the terrorists. Hence a pre-emptive bail application was filed in the form of "information being shared"

Theory 2: The terrorists were planning to attack the Bakistani team playing T20 for not being bious enough.

There are two main events that shape up the Pakistaniyat of a pakistani.

Event 1 : 700 AD when bin qasim brought Islam to the shores of indus. A true proud moment of a pakistani.

Event 2 : 1947 AD partition. This was a tactical victory of pious muslims when they demanded a separate land and got it at the very shores of indus. This is when the evil cunning baniya Hindu took the strategic victory of rolling the Muslims back to 700 AD by accepting a tactical defeat of partition.

Today every indian is a bleeding heart liberal by assuming that Pakistan is a twin brother separated at birth and thinks there is a hope for peace.

But a pakistani is sitting in the banks of indus wondering how the heck he lost what his ancestors had for thousands of years in just 1 day. How many thousands of years it is going to take to regain it back.

Every terrorist attack on us is just a pakistani way of venting out his frustration. Today's somnath attack is their way of trying to relive their glory.

LokeshC, if Theory 1 is true, then that is worrisome because that means that Pakistan knew that we knew, meaning a leak from our side. I hope such was not the case. Besides, 'plausible deniability' as a cover is long given up by Pakistan, IMO. What use is that when the whole world knows who Pakistanis are.

I believe that the TSP-NSA is playing a drama, as usual. The fact that 3rd country terrorists are involved is a huge pointer. They either pushed these guys into India with a deliberate intention of making them a scapegoat for their drama or they came to know of a plot by some foreign terrorists and used it to their advantage, again for the drama.

Janjua would have gotten the info from the ISI. COAS-e-Bakistan must have green signalled yhe info sharing.
This was prolly done as a cbm, so that the eff solah deal might be allowed through by india without raising too much trouble. Now that that deal seems to have gone through, one can expect Janjua's memory to start to go down the pakistan as far as informing india about its next bunch of ISI sponsored jihadis

I am just posting a suggestion for those interested in following news these days which do not get MSM coverage. Try #Peshawar or #Balochistan on twitter.

From the Peshawar blasts:

On this link is the CCTV footage of the blast itself

The images if disturbing maybe removed but these might help solve the speculations on who / how / what etc.

^^^^ I think ISI has sacrificed some disposable trash by giving the info of these people entering India. They are definitely not from their favorite groups for targetting India - LET and JEM. Had they played a double game by leaking info about their entry to India, these groups would not have taken it lying down and would have retaliated by targeting an army location or ISI office.

Lockheed staves off F-16 production line closure as it waits on Pakistan's orders
WASHINGTON: Lockheed Martin Corp is using its own funds to pay suppliers and stave off the closure of its F-16 fighter jet production line as it waits to finalise orders from Pakistan and other countries, a company official said on Tuesday.
Congress and the United States (US) State Department are in talks about funding for a $700 million sale of eight F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan that were approved by Congress last week.
The US Senate last week blocked a bid to derail the sale, but Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker has vowed to block the use of US funds to finance the deal.
Corker and other lawmakers have expressed concern about Pakistan's nuclear program, commitment to fighting terrorism and cooperation in the Afghanistan peace process.
He said Lockheed was working with the US government, which is in talks with India about possibly building F-16s in India.
Susan Ouzts, vice president of Lockheed's F-16 program, told reporters that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed "substantial" interest in the plane during a recent meeting with Lockheed. She said Lockheed officials would travel to India next month with a formal offer.

Can some forumites elaborate how Modi-ji's interest in setting up a manufacturing facility in India and Lockhead's plan to fulfill the Pakistan order would be in India's interest ; are not these two plans contradictory in nature ?

The statement said that the head was in transit to an “East Coast auction house.”

Video: Pak model Qandeel Baloch vows to strip dance if Pakistan beat India in the T20 World Cup
Remember Poonam Pandey who had promised to strip if team India won World Cup 2015? Well, a Pakistani model-actress and social media sensation Qandeel Baloch has offered to do exactly the same thing. In a series of videos published on her Facebook page, Baloch vows to 'strip dance' if Pakistan defeats India in ICC World T20 on March 19.
"If Pakistan beats India in the match scheduled on March 18, I'll strip dance for the country and will dedicate the dance to our captain Shahid Afridi," she says.
I guess, that dance number, if it materializes, would obviously be considered Sharia Compliant, under the new Women Protection Act, recently passed by the Pakistan National Assembly

World T20: Pakistani High Commission staff allowed to watch Pak-India match - March 15, 2016 8:41 pm

World T20 2016: Pakistani High Commissioner Allowed To Watch Pak-India Match - Indian Press Report March 16, 2016
After much of ambiguity and criticism, Indian authorities have allowed the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi, Mr. Abdul Basit and his staff to watch the much-anticipated match between India and Pakistan is to be held on 1th March in Kolkata, Eden Gardens.
The Pakistani High Commissioner along with his staff have been waiting for the decision for quite some time but were denied the permission earlier. Prior to this, five Pakistani diplomats and two of their family members were barred by India from travelling to Kolkata for the match.

Budmash faces ZAB like Islamic Leaderships' Uprising.

Religious parties warn of 1977-like agitation

LAHORE: Religious parties warned the government on Tuesday of a nationwide protest movement if the controversial women’s protection act of Punjab was not withdrawn by March 27.

Describing the Protection of Women Against Violence Act as ‘un-Islamic’, the religious groups convened another meeting on April 2 in Islamabad to decide their future course of action. Representatives of more than 35 religious parties huddled in Mansoora, Lahore, for an All-Pakistan Ulema Conference organised by the Jamaat-e-Islami and unanimously condemned the women’s protection law.

They called upon the government to re-introduce the law, accommodating the recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology, which advises parliament on the compatibility of laws with Islam. It has already declared the act un-Islamic. The government has formed a consultation committee to mull over possible amendments.

The Protection of Women against Violence Act passed last month gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence. It recommends creating a toll-free abuse reporting hotline, shelters for women and district-level panels to investigate reports of abuse. It also allows using GPS bracelets to keep track of offenders.

Unanimous condemnation

A joint declaration after Tuesday’s conference said statements given by government officials on the women’s protection law and Mumtaz Qadri’s hanging were against the Sharia, the ideology of Pakistan and its Constitution.

Pakistan was founded on the principles of Islam and the Objectives Resolution, it said, adding that all religious parties would thwart all efforts to make Pakistan a liberal or secular state. The resolution claimed the law would increase the divorce rate in society and result in damaging the traditional family structure. It also said that the law was introduced in an effort to Westernise the country.

The leaders called for the proper implementation of the existing laws on violence against women instead of introducing un-Islamic laws.

Condemning the execution of Mumtaz Qadri, the declaration said all cases registered under blasphemy laws should be expedited and the convicts punished accordingly.

The government was also warned against linking terrorism with Islamic seminaries and asked to remove all restrictions against mosques and religious schools under the National Action Plan. JI chief Sirajul Haq had earlier said the religious parties were against violence targeting women, but the law would destroy the family system of Pakistan.

Fazlur Rehman claimed Premier Nawaz Sharif was himself upset with the passage of the bill as it was done without his prior approval. “I was surprised the premier did not know about it, but I am happy that he wants to resolve the issue now,” he said.

Divided within

Interestingly, legislators in the Punjab Assembly are also divided on the controversial law. PPP parliamentary leader Qazi Ahmad Saeed claims there were reservations among legislators even when the bill was passed. “But voicing them meant creating the impression that we were against women,” he said.

None of the male legislators from the opposition benches were present or opposed the bill during the vote, something which Saeed admits. “At first, the government was in haste. Now, they just want to silence the religious parties before it balloons into a bigger issue.”

Any amendments now will see the PPP engaging more actively. “Our party’s stance is clear. We will oppose anything deemed un-Islamic,” Qazi said.

Of the 76 women lawmakers of the Punjab Assembly, only 44 were present at the time of legislation. PTI’s Shunila Ruth was one of them. “I fail to understand the hue and cry. There is a perception that this law has somehow challenged the masculinity of men in our society,” she said.

She said the positive part of the law was at least there was a state organ to address these concerns. “The only opposition towards this law would be if anyone comes out saying there is no violence against women to begin with. Can anyone substantiate that claim?” Shunila, however, says there is no harm in addressing the reservations through amendments.

Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Gender Mainstreaming Chairperson Raheela Khadim believes not just the law but the women supporting it also were facing criticism. “Women are usually snubbed in the society and this attitude is present even in the upper echelons of the society. An example would be the criticism being faced publicly by women supporting the law.”

One of the many women behind the law, Azma Bukhari says despite the growing opposition, the law is in no danger. “There are so many contradictions in the concerns raised. There is no answer over which clause of the law is un-Islamic,” said the PML-N lawmaker, also the chairperson of the standing committee on Law and parliamentary affairs

Child labour: the engine of Pakistan's economy

We are confronted with a great example of hypocrisy in the form of a child working in a tuck-shop of a business institute which teaches its students about the evils and immorality associated with promoting child labour.

This glaring reality cannot be ignored. It is a real-life example of a practice that is widely written about and taught, but which passes unnoticed in our everyday lives. We must notice it and then reflect on the authenticity of the moral fibre present inside every one of us.

We are all surrounded by such great marvels of deception and hypocrisies. We have doctors in our midst, yet they blatantly harm others around them when they aren’t on duty or outside of their workplace. We also have lawyers in our midst, who will boldly strip off the rights of those they deem inferior to them just to be able to feel superior.

We have teachers in our midst, who will unreservedly fill our minds with biased information and prejudices, which have no affiliation with the truth or with education.

We have police officers in our midst, who are more likely to intimidate the innocent than make them feel secure. And we have the NGOs — the alleged preachers of humanity and equality, who are more concerned with amassing wealth than disseminating human rights.

We need only stop and reflect for a brief period of time and the picture will start becoming clearer in our minds. We have accustomed ourselves so much to the idea and practice of child labour that to us, it seems like it is a norm or part and parcel of our culture. We are thus standing so close to the tree that we are missing the view of the forest.

Until we come to terms with the contradictions, complexities and evil within ourselves, we are not likely to open our eyes to the injustice and hypocrisy that constantly surround us. Until we look into ourselves in introspection, we will continue to be entwined with this posturing and false virtue that fills the world. We are the ambassadors of empty-talk and preachers of hypocrisy.

With the government coming under criticism from the Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday for its handling of the Pathankot operation, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said “small incidents of terrorism have to be treated as war.” Home Minister Rajnath Singh said India wanted good relations with Pakistan but not at the cost of its “pride, dignity and self-respect.”

OK, do it. Who is stopping you? You are not in opposition, are you?

LAHORE: An all-parties conference convened by Jamaat-i-Islami and attended by powerful religious groups asked the government on Tuesday to retract an “un-Islamic” law that gives unprecedented protection to female victims of violence.

The Women's Protection Act, passed by Punjab Assembly last month, gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence

SSJi, I will cut him some slack in the sense that what he means is that the entire nation treat TSP's machinations as an act of war. I need not re-iterate the game going on. We have TSP attacking India, and Indian opposition and media then attacking BJP/RSS/ModiJi for "hyper nationalism", "intolerance", "suppressing dissent" etc. Does that spectacle give any objective observer, any confidence about India's seriousness in taking on TSP? I guess ParrikarJi was referring to that. Of course, his own boss is not missing any opportunity to "engage" TSP including bear hugs, so I guess, his boss must follow the same advice.

The larger question is that even if India as a whole miraculously comes around as one entity and treats TSP's thuggery and treats it for what it is, an act of war, what are India's military options? I know what India's non military options are. Anyway all of this moot. Its seems to me that there is a strategic, immutable policy in place in Delhi, irrespective of the govt, that India just will not or cannot exercise the military option as long as long as TSP confines its tactics to terror and not a full scale military invasion. This is the status quo.

And as a corollary to this mindset, it gives the entrenched, TSP pasand mob that dominate the airwaves to go on the offensive to badger everyone into smoking the p!ss pipe, and shift the discourse from TSP to all of their pet peeves against BJP/RSS/ModiJi.

Development budget next year could be less than Rs645b
ISLAMABAD: Despite heavy financing needs to complete mega infrastructure and energy projects, the new financial year’s core federal development budget could be less than Rs645 billion, which may adversely affect work on hundreds of ongoing schemes.

Due to limited fiscal space, there is no guarantee that the allocated amount would be fully disbursed, as is the case this fiscal year, sources told The Express Tribune. The actual development expenditure during the first eight months of the ongoing fiscal year was just one-third of the annual allocation against the requirement of 60%.
For the fiscal year 2015-16, Parliament had approved Rs700 billion PSDP. However, out of this, a sum of Rs100 billion has been allocated for ‘Temporarily Displaced Persons’ (TDPs) and security enhancement.

Another Rs20 billion has been allocated for the Prime Minister’s Youth Loan Programme. Technically, this Rs120 billion could not be treated as part of the PSDP but the finance ministry included this into the PSDP to show an inflated figure of development spending.

US has assured end-use monitoring of security aid to Pakistan, says Centre

^^^ "Good" development in the long term if true.

It means that dlagon is formally colonizing Bakistan. Two outcomes I can think of:
1) We only will have to deal with one power center in the future.
2) Local hatred towards Deepel and Tarrel will shake up Pakjaabi dominance of its colonial provinces.
