Assange: More Important Revelations on US Spying Yet to Come
This is the beginning of a series," Assange told TF1 on Wednesday via a video linkup from London, adding that more important documents than the ones already published by WikiLeaks will be released in the near future.
Assange stressed that the information that WikiLeaks possesses leaves no doubts that Washington used "actual deception" with regard to French President Francois Hollande and the country’s two former leaders — Nicolas Sarkozy and Jacques Chirac.
According to the WikiLeaks founder, information that is more important from the political perspective "will be coming out" in the following days regarding not only US spying in France, but Washington’s surveillance in Europe in general.
US surveillance is a threat to the sovereignty of Europe, Assange said, calling on France not to put its head in the sand, but to "show some leadership" and to take legal action over US snooping.
Speaking about economic and industrial espionage, Assange claimed that the United States "is playing dirty" and is marginalizing the competitiveness of French and European enterprises.

WikiLeaks: NSA Spied on Ally Germany Amid EU-Greece Crisis
"Today’s publication further demonstrates that the United States’ economic espionage campaign extends to Germany and to key European institutions and issues such as the EU Central Bank and the crisis in Greece," reads a statement from WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
The new documents highlight dozens of German officials who the National Security Agency considered "high priority targets." Listing the officials by target identifiers associated with phone numbers, the individuals are categorized as being involved in either "political affairs" or "international finance developments."
"Our publication today also shows how the UK is assisting the US to spy on issues central to Europe," Assange’s statement reads. "Would France and Germany have proceeded with the BRICS bailout plan for Greece if this intelligence was not collected and passed to the United States – who must have been horrified at the geopolitical implications?"
"First, the German government wanted solutions that work within the context of current European legislation," it reads. "On the other hands, the Germans would support a special IMF fund into which the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) nations would pool funds for the purpose of bolstering Eurozone bailout activities."

For decades, Saudi Arabia has poured billions of its oil dollars into sympathetic Islamic organisations around the world, quietly practicing chequebook diplomacy to advance its agenda.
But a trove of thousands of Saudi documents recently released by WikiLeaks reveals in surprising detail how the government's goal in recent years was not just to spread its strict version of Sunni Islam — though that was a priority — but also to undermine its primary adversary: Shia Iran.
Monitoring Tehran
The documents from Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry illustrate a near obsession with Iran, with diplomats in Africa, Asia and Europe monitoring Iranian activities in minute detail and top government agencies plotting moves to limit the spread of Shia Islam.
The documents indicate an extensive apparatus inside the Saudi government dedicated to missionary activity that brings in officials from the Foreign, Interior and Islamic Affairs Ministries; the intelligence service and the office of the King.
Recent initiatives have included putting foreign preachers on the Saudi payroll; building mosques, schools and study centres; and undermining foreign officials and news media deemed threatening to the kingdom’s agenda.
At times, the King got involved, ordering an Iranian television station off the air or granting $1 million to an Islamic association in India.
While the documents do not show any Saudi support for militant activity, critics argue that the kingdom’s campaign against Shia — and its promotion of a strict form of Islam — have eroded pluralism in the Muslim world and added to the tensions fuelling conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and elsewhere.
The Saudi government has made no secret of its international religious mission, nor of its enmity toward Iran. But it has found the leaks deeply embarrassing and has told its citizens that spreading them is a crime.
The trove mostly covers the period from 2010 to early 2015. The Foreign Ministry relayed funding requests to officials in Riyadh; the Interior Ministry and the intelligence agency sometimes vetted potential recipients; the Saudi-supported Muslim World League helped coordinate strategy; and Saudi diplomats across the globe oversaw projects. Together, these officials identified sympathetic Muslim leaders and associations abroad; distributed funds and religious literature produced in Saudi Arabia; trained preachers; and gave them salaries to work in their own countries.
Clear in many of the diplomatic messages are Saudi fears of Iranian influence and of the spread of Shia Islam.

The order from Washington was unambiguous. The United States Embassy in Berlin didn't want to waste any time and moved to deliver the diplomatic cable without delay. It was May 10, 2015, a Sunday -- and even diplomats aren't crazy about working weekends. On this day, though, they had no other choice. James Melville, the embassy's second-in-command, hand delivered the mail from the White House to Angela Merkel's Chancellery at 9 p.m.
The letter that Melville handed over to Merkel's staff contained the long-awaited answer to how the German federal government could proceed with highly classified lists of NSA spying targets. The so-called "selector" lists had become notorious in Germany and the subject of considerable grief for Merkel because her foreign intelligence agency, the BND, may have helped the NSA to spy on German firms as a result of them. The selector lists, which were fed into the BND's monitoring systems on behalf of the NSA, are reported to have included both German and European targets that were spied on by the Americans.
The letter put the German government in a very delicate position. The expectation had been that the US government would flat out refuse to allow officials in Berlin to present the lists to members of the federal parliament, which is currently investigating NSA spying in Germany, including the eavesdropping of Merkel's own mobile phone. But that wasn't the case. Instead, the Americans delivered a more differentiated letter, making it all the more interesting. Nevertheless, the German government remained silent about the letter's existence.
Canned Answers
It disposed of all queries with the canned answer that talks with the US on how to deal with the lists were still ongoing. The government kept giving the same reply whenever journalists from SPIEGEL or other media asked if it had received an answer from the Americans.
On May 11, one day after Chancellery officials received the letter, Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert answered, "The heads of the Parliamentary Control Panel (responsible for parliamentary oversight of Germany's intelligence agencies) and the NSA investigative committee are all being informed about all relevant things in the context of this consultation process." Is it not relevant when the US government provides its first official response to the Germans' request to present the lists to parliament?
Two days later, on May 13, Seibert was asked explicitly by a reporter whether there had been any new developments on the NSA issue. "I have nothing new to report," the government spokesman answered. At the very least, his reply was a deliberate deception of the public by the government, because the letter didn't just come from anyone -- it came from US President Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, Denis McDonough. A letter from such a high-ranking official is most certainly a new development. When questioned by SPIEGEL on the matter, the German government responded that "it would not publicly comment on confidential communications with foreign parties."
Several sources familiar with the contents of the letter claim that in it, Obama's people express their great respect for the parliamentary oversight of intelligence services and also accept that the committee will learn more about the NSA target list. At the same time, the letter also includes the decisive requirement -- one that must have been a tough pill for the Chancellery to swallow -- that the German government had to make sure no information contained in the target lists went public.

Instead, Altmaier argued that Washington had listed a number of legal concerns. He said it was unlikely further discussions would lead to any greenlight.
When the German weekly Die Zeit reported 10 days ago that the Americans had given their okay for the release of the lists, Altmaier responded, "We could have spared ourselves a difficult debate if permission to pass (the lists) on had actually been given by the US." Altmaier clearly attempted to skirt the question of whether the US had made any statements on the issue.

"The Federal Chancellery is doing exactly the opposite of what Merkel promised," criticizes Konstantin von Notz, the Green Party's representative on the NSA investigative committee. "Instead of clearing things up, things are being concealed behind the scenes, also using improper means."
As the course of the NSA scandal showed, Merkel and her people already have practice when it comes to attempting to cover things up. During her election campaign in 2013, Merkel created the impression for months that there was a chance Germany might be able to reach a no-spy agreement with the US. Throughout, the White House signaled behind the scenes that it would never agree to one, but the German government still remained mum to the public about these discussions.
Now a special ombudsman is supposed to steer the government out of the difficult situation in which it finds itself. It's an idea that originated with Altmaier. Rather than providing the selector lists to the NSA investigative committee in parliament, they will instead be viewed by Kurt Graulich, a former justice with the Federal Administrative Court. Altmaier's hope is that this path will prevent details from being leaked to the press.
The opposition parties in parliament are against the idea. And why shouldn't they be? In recent years, the Chancellery has done everything in its power to downplay spying by US intelligence services on Germany. Altmaier's predecessor, Ronald Pofalla, even went so far in August 2013 as to say that the NSA scandal had been "cleared." The revelation, arguably the biggest, that Merkel's own mobile phone had been tapped by the NSA followed two months later. Now the Green and Left parties want to prevent the government from choosing its own inspector. They are considering a legal challenge at the Federal Constitutional Court to stop Merkel's government.

The US sent a “planeload of FBI agents” to Iceland in 2011 to frame WikiLeaks and its co-founder Julian Assange, according to a former Icelandic minister of interior, who refused them any cooperation and asked them to cease their activities.
In June 2011, Obama administration implied to Iceland's authorities they had knowledge of hackers wanting to destroy software systems in the country, and offered help, then-Interior Minister Ogmundur Jonasson, said in an interview with the Katoikos publication.
However, Jonasson said he instantly became “suspicious” of the US good intentions, “well aware that a helping hand might easily become a manipulating hand.”
Later in the summer 2011, the US “sent a planeload of FBI agents to Iceland seeking our cooperation in what I understood as an operation set up to frame Julian Assange and WikiLeaks,” Jonasson said.
Icelanders seemed like a tough nut to crack, though.
“Since they had not been authorized by the Icelandic authorities to carry out police work in Iceland and since a crack-down on WikiLeaks was not on my agenda, to say the least, I ordered that all cooperation with them be promptly terminated and I also made it clear that they should cease all activities in Iceland immediately,” the politician said.
So the US were told to leave, and moreover, the politician made things quite clear for them.
“If I had to take sides with either WikiLeaks or the FBI or CIA, I would have no difficulty in choosing: I would be on the side of WikiLeaks,” he said.
Jónasson went on to discuss other whistleblowers like Edward Snowden: the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, debated whether Snowden should have been granted citizenship, but “there hasn't been political consensus” on the matter.
“Iceland is part of NATO and such a decision would be strongly objected to by the US,” Jonasson said.
Both whistleblowers have spent several years under protection: Assange has been staying in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for about four years, while Snowden was granted asylum in Russia in 2013, and he is still staying at an undisclosed location there.

US should stop going after Assange. This show of power to get him is going to get them more bad name, rather if it let them play it out.
Most informed people are anyway aware of dirty games of strong state.
By now, I am sure Assange is only one face of these kind of releases, powerful players are also supporting him.
More actions are taken against him, more news, and more bad name for US.

Little by little, the US is turning into a police state with banksters & oligarchs deciding what the people should be allowed to hear as news.
Now that the legacy media (e.g. CNN, NBC..etc) have lost their power to brainwash people, the move is on to prevent any independent analysis of the news.
Using "propaganda from Russia" excuse, they want to crack down on anyone who has an opinion different that what the govt/banksters want people to hear.
Spam bots and other machine learning will be used to flood website commentary section to support the oligarchs narrative of news events.
All that remains is to nominate the Truth Tsar. A rather dark and disturbing turn of events as more monetary control, more censorship of the news & opinion and other scam artistry is used to create a police state where everyone in it is a slave to oligarchs and banksters.
