Rout quotes the exact test date. Wouldn't we have to file a NOTAM for the test? I tried looking for the notice but deciphering the NOTAM system is beyond me.

Also he says missile fired from 45 nautical miles from Vizag. Its too close for range safety.
Second says 3500km range missile tested at 700 km. Would require very high loft. It might be tested but not with those parameters.

Still doesn't make u for A-5 test but goody !!! Hopefully a full range K-4 and A-5 test in a month or two.
Rout still claiming 12 m long K-4 as opposed to 10 m on other sites.

Finally a great news in last few gloomy days of visit of shitistan probe team to pathankot and clubbing of desh into equal-equal with shitistan by ombaba . Congrats DRDO

Hemant Kumar Rout citing nameless source claimed in a March 16, 2016 article that the K4 Missile was secretly tested from a submerged pontoon on March 7, 2016:

K-4 Missile Test A Roaring Success

He is now claiming, citing nameless source, that K4 Missile was tested on March 31, 2016 off the Arihant.

That level of urgency in ballistic missile testing is alien to DRDO leading me to take the view in the absence of official confirmation, that one or both of his reports are not factual.

May jolly well be true as various systems may be tested. Remember that the B05 was tested multiple times (over 14 times if I remember right) before even the first official confirmation.

From Wiki:

K-4 Mark I (Agni-III MRBM)
3,500 km 20 tonnes
2.5 tonnes
10 m

First tested from a depth of 30 metres on 24 March 2014. More tests expected before being getting operational.

K-4 Mark II (Agni-V ICBM)
5,000-8,000 km
17 tonnes
1 tonne
12 m Under development

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K_Missile_family

Looks like they tested both the K4-MK1 and K4-Mk2. Mk1 fits the Arihant and the Mk2 for subsequent SSBNs.

HKR is rarely wrong. He seems to b the unofficial mouthpiece. I wonder if he even exists except as a nom de plume.

taking away from express report
“Having an operational range of nearly 3,500 km, the missile was fired towards north for a shorter range. It covered more than 700 km before zeroing on the target with high accuracy reaching close to zero circular error probability (CEP),” {pint point coordinates for an epicenter}

Reports indicated the K-4 missile with the features of boost-glide flight profiles is designed to defeat any anti-ballistic missile systems. Equipped with the satellite updates to modify accumulated errors from its inertial navigation system, the weapon system is claimed to be quite dangerous and one of its kind in the world. [IRNSS.mil?]

The 111-metre-long INS Arihant has four vertical launch tubes, which are capable of carrying 6 torpedoes of 533 mm and 12 B-05 (K-15) missiles or 4 K-4 missiles.

Powered by an 85 MW capacity nuclear reactor with enriched uranium fuel, this submarine can achieve surface speeds of 12 knots to 15 knots, and submerged speeds of up to 24 knots, carrying a crew of 95.
Apart from Arihant, the K-4 will also arm another Arihant class submarine INS Aridhaman which is currently under construction along with two others. These submarines will have eight launch tubes each.

Yes but that only explains 1.5 tonne difference. The Mk-2 is probably K-5 and shd be 30+ tonne.

Shiv - Gopalpur is the center of Army Air Defense and has a Gopalpur-to-sea firing range; L-70 guns and missiles are fired from shore towards sea. PTA generally forms the target for these exercises. And GE tells me that it is ~230 kms north-east along coastline from VK.

^ Mk2 is not K5 and when the throw weight is less the distance can be more or the weight of the missile may be less. lso the fuel consumption in a depressed trajectory(Mark I) will be more compared to a true ballistic profile. So the actual range of K4 Mk 1 may itself be severely underreported. I do not think any country will give the true figures out in the open.

Thank you! We finally have the right NOTAM for a 700 km test range and with the appropriate language, i.e. "danger zone"

PS. I formatted the coordinates into the following and then pasted them into www.notamdecoder.com
17.20N, 83.48E, 19.97N, 89.24E, 21.22N, 88.44E, 17.46N, 83.30E

CT Theory...

1. HKR edits Wiki
2. Plausible deniability built on years of DDM/PTI confuse-speak
3. K-4 Mk2 weight = ~37KT with DDM error factored in

Sum total might be narrowcast to p5 listeners, plausible broadcast deniability to others.

You think?....

It seems that the administration is signalling by the design of the NOTAM zone.

Here's the NOTAM zone by itself on the top and with Beijing and Shanghai extrapolated in the image below.

Image

Image

Beijing is at a distance of 4042 km and Shanghai at 4133 km, which should both be within K4 range provided the payload is lighter than the incredible 2.5T rated capacity of the K4.

+1
the vessel will not be parked at 45nm from vizag when it lets loose, in which case you can take out another 500-600kms from the 4042/4133kms figure.

In theory, yes, and it should then be possible to reduce the number of warheads for a longer reach, but we don't know how much of all this is already available.

The orange zone is a circle with radius 3,500 km and the yellow zone is for 4,000 km:

The coastal waters of West Bengal are a better bet for a true 3,500 km range:

Nicely done Prateek, Thanks.

This is fab news, perhaps an SSN variant is not too far, hence why p75 project seems to be going no where. Maybe Ann additional kilo, scorpene, akula and that's that.

Prateek, What terminal velocity for the payload is calculated?

If Rout report is correct K-4 was launched at minimum range for high loft. So most likely proofing the RV for aero forces. And from shallow launch.

If its MIRV with four RVs, INS Arihant will be carry in 16 payloads like the Polaris boats.

7500 km should do it. But who cares, with SLBMs why would you launch from BoB? I think that is why this secret test. With that kind of range and a working submarine, we have the capability now to reach uncle and aunty if needed.
