Australian ISIS Ezit Raad convicted in plot to bomb MCG killed in Manbij
Islamic State has reported convicted Australian terrorist Ezzit Raad – who was jailed over the 2005 plot to blow up the MCG – has been killed fighting for the terrorist group in Syria.
ISIS published overnight its first edition of Rumiyah, a propaganda magazine for the terror network. The 38-page online publication was released simultaneously in seven languages, including English, French, German, Russian and Turkish. [first published in England]
The first edition dedicates four pages to Raad, whom it says died in the city of Manbij, near Aleppo, when “a piece of shrapnel struck him and tore his chest open” [Aawwww!]
Raad, 36, was jailed for four-and-a-half years in 2008, after being convicted in an operation codenamed Pendennis, for a plot to blow up the MCG during an AFL match...”

Re: Levant crisis - III
khan touman has been a real problem for quite some time now. taking it would open up capture of the aleppo ring road to its west and secure the town properly...there is some "ICARDA" campus near that road which saa has never managed to capture for long.
Re: Levant crisis - III
On geo-strategic perspective lessons from Syria, it seems even superpowers have operational limitations.
At the most, even a superpower can fight a war at two hot fronts, anything more would be stretching it. When Rus opened Syria front, US was consumed by its own efforts to fight at two fronts. They exposed themselves and it was more than they could take on. Then they became irrelevant because whole world say that they were not on a single page with CIA/SD fighting against Pentagon. Maybe a stronger US 'son-of-the-soil' type president may have overcome such inter-agency fights in foreign territory but as luck would have it, there wasn't one.
It always pays to open fronts away from one's home territory, given a choice, one should always opt to fight a war with one's mortal enemy away from own shores.

US teeth would be far less potent had they to pay the real cost of things - ie dollar not worlds reserve currency, and real cost were reflected in the interest rates and exchange rates thereof.

Re: Levant crisis - III
Mostly they would have called in airstrikes and fire missions from any russian operated artillery units.
Their btr ifv could have tactical sigint gear to snoop on the jihadi hand held radio network.
After weeks of error prone efforts this last offensive had a well planned look to it
Perhaps idea was to give jihadis hope and attrit 100s every week in the ruins before closing the file
Real test is khan touman now....large scale fae can bd used as none but orcs live up there

Re: Levant crisis - III
yes, instead of jihadis frittering away into countryside, they were attracted into Hama & Aleppo with vague promises of success, but these are both death traps.
Khan Touman is a test run, to check defences I feel. The real attack will follow a few weeks later.
Also apparently some US SF embedded with Nusra are also trapped in Aleppo, they have not been evacuated yet. SD & Kerry are still pondering how to resolve that one.

Syria’s army, backed by Resistance forces, are purging areas in Southern Aleppo of the last remaining pockets of Takfiri militants, a Syrian military source said. An operation for the liberation of Aleppo’s southern front axis from the clutches of Takfiri terrorists is in its final stages, Tasnim dispatches reported on Tuesday citing a Syrian military source.
The source added that the southern front axis includes military academies, al-Ramouse region and 1070 residential project. It further noted that Southern Aleppo will be fully cleared of the terrorists if the army wrests control over a key hilltop near the 1070 residential project.
The latest developments came after the army troops on Sunday fully recaptured three military academies in southwestern Aleppo and managed to lay siege to the rebel-held districts east of the strategic city.

khan touman army depots and outskirts of town are in SAA hands but I think these are the plain areas.
Monte cassino still remains in hands of the orc.
i think it took some 1 division of troops and months of bombing to secure this little monastery guarded by german paras. even indian units from montgomerys 8th army fought there i think.

Re: Levant crisis - III
jihadis are pretty demoralized i suppose. the smart ones would have got out on the jarablous onsite gig. the dregs & retards got left behind.
Govt will likely look for some daraya type amnesty deals where militants can either get a pardon and go home or move out to Idlib and beyond under red crescent convoy...and civilians would be free in the jihadi controlled areas of the city .....
this jihadi offensive took months to plan and a lot of resources. none of the formations will be keen on such a expensive bloodbath again as the govt has proved despite heavy loss of men and materials, bad publicity, they will do "whatever it takes" to surround the city.
the areas west of aleppo in the countryside might soon fall to SAA as the jihadis tighten their perimeter to a core area of Idlib and Hama and the northern mountains....the biscuit might crumble piece by piece...

however there is nothing on the horizon yet strong enough to take on ISIS in their core area of Raqqa-Deir azzor.
only a sustained campaign with good resupply from various directions by YPG, SAA, arab militias, Hashd PMU can make any dent ... baki koi kuch ukhaad nahi sakta... SAA cannot turn its attention away from its core Idlib Emirate problem.

the latest version of android called nougat owes it's origins to cuisine from Aleppo. It's kind of pasty sweet that was first made popular in Aleppo, Hatay areas.
Singha, you cannot defend Idlib & Hama since these areas are vulnerable from aerial bombardment. It almost seems as if Syrians are waiting for the jihadis to crowd and concentrate on Idlib & Hama before blasting them out of contention en masse. It is suicide to stick around in Idlib & Hama. RuAF can make mincemeat out of these areas, the heavy urban cluster of Aleppo, East damascus & Latakia was where natural cover was possible for rats.

looking how comfortably they have crossed the Sufr river and expanding toward Al-bab I guess YPGs run is over...they will be lucky to keep Manbij
what will happen in this new islamic caliphate only god knows. perhaps IS will morph into a new monster? there are reports of ISIS just changing dress from black to green and become part of the new caliphate.
or will the turks be able put a leash on them and run them like TSP runs its frontiers - periodic shellings, raids and bombings to maintain a restive peace.

REUTERS – France said on Tuesday it was deploying artillery to Iraq and readying its aircraft carrier for deployment to reinforce foreign military support for the Iraqi army's expected push to recapture Mosul, the de facto capital of ISIS in Iraq.
The Iraqi army and its elite units have gradually taken up positions around the city 400 kilometers (248 miles) north of Baghdad, with international coalition forces keen to capitalize on ISIS' loss of territory in both Iraq and Syria.
