Pain must be felt by all TSP stakeholders in this war by terror. Army, Jehadis, Public, supporters - the 3.5.

I know this is happening, ongoing, but this time those who feel the pain must understand why they were punished.

Easier said than done. Its over to Doval & Co.

There are indications that this time it will be different. Let's wait and watch. From what I have observed everyone is demanding Paki blood.

According to Nitin Gokhale, Uri Brigade HQ which is very close to LoC is clearly visible to Pakis who are at an elevated position on Haji Pir pass. So Pakis must have seen a new set of troops arriving yesterday and timed this attack. Would taking back Haji Pir pass be one of the plausible responses?

Doval, the three chiefs and Parrikar should be meeting Modi. It's useless having Kadi Ninda meeting the same old home ministry bureaucrats. Also, army chief and Parrikar don't need to rush to Uri and tell the world they will be visiting. I hope that the area has been properly sanitised. In any event these gentlemen should be in Delhi not running about like this.

When the riposte comes, it would be advisable to do it a place not on Indo pak borders.

The challenge for Doval as I see it is not having assets inside Pakistan like PVNR had in Sindh and used it during A K Verma's term in RAW to carry out India's bidding. They are working on building up those assets as we speak...but it will take years for those capabilities to be built up.

So the only option for now is to carry out raids on LOC.

Yes its looking like this time the script is different. But I will only believe when I see it being played. Too many times we have been disappointed by our leadership. Time is rip.

Some people on twitter talking about Indus water treaty. What gives??

This is ALL OUT WAR and our response be for that. Damn with building deeper assets, Baloch etc. We need MASSIVE RETALIATION TODAY! We have very little window for a massive disproportionate retaliation before the big brothers restrain us. I hope NM lives up to this challenge

Rkirankr ji, Army is not some private security agency guarding banks etc. It's primary task is to conduct offensive operations inside enemy territory. It is not a defensive force much less a perimeter guarding one.

Tough but uncomfortable questions should be put in front of decision makers in charge of unleashing war on enemy.

17 soldiers almost make a platoon. Wars have been fought for the loss of a platoon in the past. Hope the response does not stay limited to effete condemnations and general sophistry.

If it happened on short notice, that suggests highly trains special ops types terrorists, not some cannon fodder jihadist.

I hate to say this but one thing that will inflict some real pain to the real perpetrators is an attack in Pindi or some cantonment.

"We strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Uri. Assure nation that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished," tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We salute all those martyred in Uri. Their service to the nation will always be remembered. My thoughts are with the bereaved families," he added.

Withdraw from the Indus Treaty and announce actions to retake the occupied territories of Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan . The Pakistani jarnails have no fear of retaliation. Unless that situation changes and there is a visible cost bordering on the threshold of war, these attacks will continue. The Pindi school attack is a path that won't be allowed by Namo so a similar one will be required with adult subjects.

Would scrapping Indus Treaty give immediate pain to pakis? Yes it should be scrapped and infra created where we can stop water or create flood at will. We need a action which gives immediate severe pain to pakis. Just blast few brahmos toward Pindi.

Guys, India never indulged in nor sponsored terror attacks anywhere. Nor will it this time or in the future. Indian attacks always involve Indian armed force personnel and direct. School attacks, urban guerrilla warfare, commuter train bombing, bombing of religious & crowded places etc. are carried out by Pakistan military and Pakistan military-trained jihadists in the Indian Subcontinent.

On IWT, withdrawal from it at this stage would only help Pakistan divert from the real issue at hand, which is the Uri attack, the earlier Pathankot attack and sponsorship of latest terrorism in J&K. Indian retaliation must be immediate, and disproportionate and well directed (not indiscriminate in anger) and India must not let itself be pressurized by any other country until some unbearable pain is inflicted.

Worse that that is for some of our politicians to suggest talks even after this. They sympathize with the families of martyred soldiers, say that this is a serious matter but in the same breath suggest talks and talks alone. Communist Sitaram Yechury has already followed this line exactly.

And so will some media personalities.

Another lie that needs to be busted is this constant mantra from TSP apologists in US and India that TSP faces a "threat" from India and hence its compulsions must by understood. TSP loves that narrative even as it continues its brazen aggression.

Finger IWT by diverting off some water with our news media widely covering that .
I first want to see pakis go into an epileptic fit.

Then give a extended mauling to the jehadi Paki army where they least expect - that will be a fitting response.

The Bak gameplan is very clear.

If Modi does not respond his *Tough on security* plank gets hit, the forces are demoralized and the jehadi's and the separatist get a boost. If India does escalate, even with words, Kashmir gets the center stage that Bakis have desired all through the unrest and which it has not managed till date.

The *noclear* overhand has always worked in Baki's favour till date. Any *wiff* of direct action/escalation will get the world on *mediate* mode at least. The *world* will call for restraint from India and talks on Kashmir between India and Bakistan.

This is not to say there shouldn't be a response but it will have to be well thought out. I can't think of how to give back without getting the whole world talking of Kashmir unrest except by covert means. It will also mean a more muted response publicly at least NO war talk.

Those who are determined do things..the rest just talk of covert means.

The entire msm is after putin and russia but he reached out did what needed done in crimea and syria

Dont play the game where goalposts are controlled by others. Hit them with 10 missiles on nearby tspa camps and dare them to escalate. Let the world restrain them from that..we have 4 times the number of well armed fighter planes. Do not expect a bloodless jdam war thats all...we will take hits but do 5x damage in return

Pakistan does not indulge in this sort of activity unless it is confident that it has the backing of its apologists and sponsors. Kargill and the Parliament attack followed this pattern. After 26/11, it was told by its sponsors to limit the level of spectacular hits across India, for fear of hitting westerners.
This recent attack and the previous one in Pathankot, both of which were primed to create mass casualties could only have been carried out with the blessing of the PRc who probably have sufficient forces in POK to guard their CPEc investments. The following have to be taken into consideration before any response:
a) PRC continued nuclear testing in NK
b) Masood Azahar support by PRC
c) the NSG row
d) the ongoing crisis in the south china sea.
e) the recently concluded logistics agreement
China is probably hoping that any Indian retaliation would reestablish the India-Pak equation, and provide it with a problem that it can helpfully provide the solution.
For india the optimal response in the very short term would be to restart A-5 testing for MIRV capability and marks the the current issue as an india-PRC one.

Tents set on fire, troops shot while coming out - Dinakar peri, The Hindu
A senior army officer said terrorists may have set tents on fire in the Uri army Base, and as soldiers ran out, shot them. He also hinted that they are combing through the base carefully, with the presumption that at least two more terrorists are hauled up inside the station {They are PA's BAT, so there must be 6 to 8. Only 4 are accounted for.}.

Details emerging on the Uri attack show a very detailed planning that has gone into inflict maximum damage, with army losing at least 17 soldiers and atleast 30 injured.

The attack took place at an army facility just six kms away from the Line of Control (LoC).

While four terrorists were killed, another 2-3 terrorists are believed to be still alive and search is underway to locate them, he said.

According to official sources, most of the soldiers killed belonged to 6 Bihar regiment who were in the process of replacing 10 Dogra regiment.

"Troops of 6 Bihar were accommodated in tents. Terrorists put tents on fire and then shot the troops when they were rushing out,” sources said.

More burn injuries have been reported.

^^"This is not to say there shouldn't be a response but it will have to be well thought out. I can't think of how to give back without getting the whole world talking of Kashmir unrest except by covert means. "

Why should we care if the whole world talks of Kashmir unrest or otherwise? It is time to stop giving up half of the state and then trying to defend the rest while the pakis want the whole. You can't play defense all the time. You also have to score goals.

Take the predictability out of it. Bomb the crap out jihadi bases and suppress any paki AF/Army activity with violence. At the same time declare we are ready to talk about all of Kashmir including the Northern Areas. And, the talks begin after pakis withdraw all forces and citizenry per the the UN resolution and India has had time to ensure the peace and tranquility necessary to a plebiscite.

The pakis will reject this as will the PRC. Why? CPEC. Think about it.
