Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan join India in boycotting Islamabad Saarc Summit Updated: Wednesday, September 28, 2016, 10:43 [IST]
New Delhi, Sep 28 Following the diplomatic blitzkrieg launched by New Delhi, Pakistan is virtually getting isolated in the region with Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan joining India in boycotting the annual Saarc Summit scheduled to be hosted by Islamabad in November.
Due to increased level of violence and fighting as a result of imposed terrorism on Afghanistan, President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani with his responsibilities as the Commander in Chief will be fully engaged, and will not be able to attend the summit," sources quoted Kabul as saying in a message to Saarc chair Nepal on Tuesday. In a similar message to Nepal, Bangladesh on Tuesday said: "The growing interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by one country has created an environment which is not conducive to the successful hosting of the 19th Saarc (South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation) Summit in Islamabad in November 2016." "Bangladesh, as the initiator of the Saarc process, remains steadfast in its commitment to regional cooperation, connectivity and contacts but believes that these can only go forward in a more congenial atmosphere," the message said. "In view of the above, Bangladesh is unable to participate in the proposed summit in Islamabad."
"Further, the Royal Government of Bhutan shares the concerns of some of the member countries of Saarc on the deterioration of regional peace and security due to terrorism and joins them in conveying our inability to participate in the Saarc Summit, under the current circumstances," the message from Thimpu on Tuesday said. Sri Lanka, it is learned, has said that the event would not be possible without India's participation.

The Mohammadden Terrorist fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan claims that reports of other countries besides India boycotting the Islamabad SAARC Summit is propoganda.

Islamic Republic of Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson (Nafees Zakariya?) is quoted as saying “It’s part of Indian propaganda against Pakistan and our Saarc conference. They are running baseless and misleading reports that some Asian countries will not participate”.

Sartaj Aziz, Adviser on Foreign Affairs to Pakistani PM, is quoted as saying “Such rumours about Saarc conference could be propaganda by RAW,”

Saarc boycott reports are Indian propaganda: Pakistan

Meanwhile “Rumours” and “propaganda by RAW” turns to be nothing of the sort with wire service AFP confirming that Bangladesh has joined India in boycotting Islamabad Summit, citing junior Bangladesh Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam:

Taking a cue from SSwaraj's pummelling of Porks, the Global competitivenes index delivers another blow to Pawki's already tattered echandee..

Global Competitiveness Index: Pakistan improves, but remains among bottom 20 economies

Think about good old times under the Mushy's golden era, when rivers of milk and honey flowed endlessly
Although Pakistan improved its ranking by two notches, its score is still below the 2007 level, suggesting that the country has not sustained the competitiveness gains made during General retired Pervez Musharraf’s era.
Time to polish the begging bowls
Pakistan has been making gradual progress, although still there is a lot of room to improve, said Dr Miftah Ismail, Board of Investment (BoI) chairman. His said the government was working towards the target of getting in the top 100 economies ranked by the WEF.
The quality of infrastructure has improved significantly in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, while it stalled in Nepal and deteriorated in Pakistan, it added.
"Just wait till the CPEC is up and running.."

Overall... :(( :(( :((

Cross posting.

I am posting a tweet series by @avarakai who goes by Sniper name.

- My concerns on #IWT signed by the then PM, in following tweets.
- 1. Was the treaty discussed in Parliament before signing?
- 2. How was the share of water decided? How come less water for India & more water for much smaller Pakistan?
- 3. Why only water for J&K being discussed? Even Kutch falls within the basin of Indus - if there's no border. Why no water for Kutch?
- 4. Why full use of potential - even within the treaty - wasn't done all along? Who stopped it? What's the reason?
- 5. After giving 80% of water, why did we give GBP 620Mn to Pakistan - to repair THEIR canals? Why didn't Nehru oppose it?
{620 million GBP in those days is a very very big amount, do not know what is Jawahar's compulsion or itch for this generous dole out to Pak}
- 6. Was the treaty approved by Cabinet / Parliament? Since it involves financial implications. Why it never came to Parliament first?
- 7. Was the then government under pressure to sign something so utterly biased? 80:20? We don't even use the 20% as "goodwill". WHY?
- 8. @Swamy39 is very right in pointing on Article 253. Since the first installment was given without Cabinet / Parliament nod.
- 9. Was there an inter-ministerial consultation with experts on Security / Water resources before signing the treaty? Or, was it by one man?
- 10. The above questions needs to be raised and make Congress answer the same. The INC has gone silent after raising #IWT by Govt.
- 11. It strikes me, that it is definitely not possible that the treaty stood without interruption even during war. Something is not right.
- 12. Are we being not told about something? Is this why, INC prefers a war than review / abrogation of treaty? Is that why libbies shouting?
- 13. Forget for a moment, review / abrogation part. Even using what is rightfully ours (per the sham treaty), is being opposed. Why?
- 14. Pakistan cheater Kashmiris of their waters. J&K State LA passed a resolution against #IWT. Why wasn't it taken up for review earlier?
- 15. Why didn't J&K politicians - NC & PDP - pro-actively campaign against this all along? Why didn't they call Congress bluff?
- This is overall a SHAM treaty. Should be reviewed. Not more than 35% water to Pakistan. 5% should be given to Kutch region. (FINI) #IWTSham

Need to be extra cautious now for the next 3months.. We are also drowning them in their own stink.. We should not let them breath... Keep up the pressure.. Good going so far, another 3 months, there would be tectonic shifts in our Western buffer state.. I said it First.

The UK’s Guardian terms boycott of SAARC Islamabad meeting by 4 SAARC Member Countries a humiliation for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan:
Four south Asian countries are to boycott what was set to be a historic regional summit in Islamadad in November, dealing a humiliating blow to Pakistan and isolating it diplomatically.
Guardian credits India and our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this humiliating blow aimed to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan:
In recent weeks, Modi has publicly backed separatist rebels in the restive Pakistani province of Balochistan, a move that has infuriated Islamabad. He has also questioned a key cross-border river treaty and vowed to orchestrate Pakistan’s diplomatic isolation.

That promise became reality on Wednesday when it became clear four out of SAARC’s eight members would not attend the summit, which it is Pakistan’s turn to host.

SAARC summit postponed

NEW DELHI: The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit has been postponed after India and three other countries pulled out of the key South Asian summit, Geo News quoted official sources as saying.

The other countries included Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Bhutan, according to an official with the Nepali government, the current chair of SAARC.

A key South Asian summit was in doubt Wednesday after India and three other countries pulled out following a deadly attack on an army base that New Delhi blames on a Pakistan-based group.

India has sought to isolate Pakistan in the wake of the raid on its base in the disputed region of Kashmir, which killed 18 soldiers and triggered public fury.

On Tuesday it said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Islamabad in November, in a major snub to its neighbour.

Without naming Pakistan, India´s foreign ministry said "increasing cross-border terrorist attacks in the region and growing interference in the internal affairs of member states by one country" had created an environment that was not conducive for a meeting.

Hours later, Bangladesh said it was also pulling out. Afghanistan and Bhutan -- both close India allies -- have since followed suit, according to a SAARC official who asked not to be named.

"Pakistan has been interfering in our internal affairs for some time," a senior Bangladesh foreign ministry official told AFP, requesting anonymity.

"That´s why we have pulled out of the SAARC summit."

Under pressure to act after the Kashmir raid, Modi warned Pakistan in a major speech on Saturday that India would push to make it a pariah state.

Pakistan denies any involvement in the attack, the worst of its kind in over a decade.

But India´s army has blamed Jaish-e-Mohammad, a Pakistan-based militant group that was also implicated in an audacious assault on an Indian air force base in the northern town of Pathankot in January.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars since partition in 1947, two of them over Kashmir, where the two countries regularly exchange fire across the disputed border.

At the last SAARC summit in 2014 a newly-elected Modi shook hands with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, raising hopes of warmer ties.

Just over a year later Modi made a surprise Christmas Day visit to Pakistan for a meeting with Sharif.

But those hopes were dashed by the Pathankot attack in which seven Indian soldiers died, and peace talks have been on ice ever since.

- ´Closer to China´ -

Current SAARC chair Nepal would not comment on speculation the summit would be cancelled, but said it would issue a statement later in the day.

The leaders of the eight SAARC countries -- which also include Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives -- expressed frustration after the last summit in Kathmandu with the slow pace of progress towards greater regional integration.

Analysts say this is down to the mutual mistrust between Pakistan and powerhouse India.

Cyril Almeida, a columnist in Pakistan´s English-language daily Dawn, said India´s move to exclude Pakistan from regional discussions was not unexpected.

"Diplomatically, (it´s) maybe not a big deal for Pakistan given that SAARC is widely perceived as ineffective," he said.

"But (it´s) a fresh sign of Pakistan not being in a comfortable place in its own region."

South Asia analyst Ashok Malik said the withdrawals would have little practical impact on Pakistan, but could push it closer to rival regional power China.

"It basically scores a symbolic and a political victory. As for Pakistan, this will push it even closer to China," said Malik, head of the Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation´s regional studies initiative.

Pakistan meanwhile said it remained "committed to peace and regional cooperation" and accused New Delhi of perpetrating "terrorism" on its soil.

"As for the excuse used by India, the world knows that it is India that has been perpetrating and financing terrorism in Pakistan," tweeted foreign ministry spokesman Nafees Zakariya late Tuesday, citing the capture of an Indian intelligence officer in Baluchistan earlier this year.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of interference in the southwestern province of Baluchistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan and is afflicted by Islamist militancy and a separatist insurgency.

Nepal is chair of saarc so ... they cannot unilaterally withdraw.

Sri Lanka is acting all cute and saying they will not particpate if India is not coming then there is no point in holding saarc summit. They personally have no issues with Pakistan's terrorism perhaps.

A suggestion which may cut your efforts by 90%. There are lists online that tabulate all the islamist-led or affiliated terror attacks from 9/11 onwards. Use that mastyer list and eliminate those line items where the pakis were not directly or indirectly involved (now, that's a short list of deducts).

India's efforts to isolate Pakistan showing results in region: Experts
Last Updated: Wednesday, September 28, 2016 - 23:15
New Delhi: India's efforts to isolate Pakistan on the issue of exporting terror have shown results in the South Asian region with three other countries pulling out of the scheduled Saarc meet in Islamabad, say experts, noting that India can accelerate its engagement with other regional forums such as Bimstec.
India stepped up its efforts to mount international pressure on Pakistan after a terror attack in Uri earlier this month in which 18 soldiers were killed. India has blamed the attack on militants from Pakistan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the perpetrators of the Uri attack will not go unpunished. In a speech on Sunday last before the BJP National Council meeting in Kerala, he said India's efforts to isolate Pakistan globally had been successful.
Two days later, India pulled out of the Saarc summit to be held in Pakistan in November. Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan also followed suit.
C. Uday Bhaskar, security analyst and Director, Society for Policy Studies, said India has been successful in isolating Pakistan in the regional context.
"In the regional context, India has been quite successful. The fact that Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Bhutan have joined India in conveying their inability to attend the summit in Islamabad is indicative," Bhaskar told IANS.
He, however, said it would be "misleading to infer from this partial support within Saarc (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation)" that Pakistan has been globally isolated....

^As per this link the current value of 62 million in 1960 GBP is between 1.2 Billion and 4.4 Billion GBP.

Not only is it a massive amount in its own right, but it was especially massive in 1960 when we were struggling with severe poverty and famine. That money could probably have built a dam or saved the lives of hundreds of thousands or opened 20 new universities or 200 large hospitals.

Guys, irrespective of whether or not TSP will abandon terror as an instrument of state policy in response to India's boycott of SAARC, its neverthless a good move on part of ModiJi. I hope BD, Bhutan, and Afghanistan do not betray us like the Russians who after promising to cancel military exercises, did show up. I think ModiJi should also revoke the MFN crap. What is his reluctance? Because Indian business men will be hurt? Also, I would like to see the security cover provided to Harried rats removed. The other day, when pressed on this, Nalin Kohli gave a disingenuous reply. He said, if security cover is removed, TSP might kill one of the rats and blame it on India. While TSP is capable of anything, I am not convinced that TSP will take out one of their proxies; unless of course, any of them sound reasonable. But the chances of that are so low. So whatever the world might say, or whatever Paki Indians (Aiyar, Malhotra, Burka, Shukla, Kulkarni, ...) might say, I hope ModiJi persists with this strategy:

1. No SAARC
2. Continue support for Baluchis. Bring up PoK, Gilgit.
3. Remove MFN
4. Tinker with IWT to the extent possible
5. Wink, wink, nod, nod as Shiv Sena and others kick Paki RAPE arses out of India
6. Steadfastly, no kirket under any circumstances (this hurts big time)
7. Whether or not whites listen, rub it that TSP is a terrorist enterprise
8. Steadfastly, do not succumb to opening talks with TSP after dust settles (Indian leaders including ModiJi are prone to this)
9. Remove security cover to Harried rats. Diplomats in various capitals of white countries drum home the point that India has made many many overtures to KMs. Reason problem persists is because of demand for secession. Not on the cards. Cite elections etc.
10. ...

And finally, hopefully, Indian army delivers a surprise blow at the opportune moment.

RamanaGaru, I am aware of that. There was one point when Fukroo was also sounding reasonable, but quickly changed tack realizing a bullet will be drilled through his head. Sajjad Lone's father was eliminated because once again he was sounding reasonable. But my point is that as long as Fukroo, Veggie Terrorist, do not stray from the Paki message, why would they be eliminated? But be removing the security cover, they will be rendered irrelevant.

As I understand it, MFN continues to be extended unilaterally to Pakistan precisely because it is token.

MFN has no value at all in a situation where India and Pakistan do about $2B of trade with each other. It was a relationship standard introduced by the WTO to increase and maximize trade. For reasons we all know, trade between India and Pakistan will remain paltry, MFN or no MFN.

If we retract MFN it does not hurt Pakistan economically as they do not depend on us as an export market. OTOH, our giving them MFN, and their denying it to us, has token value as another buster of the equal-equal myth. It advances the perception that are big enough to want better trade relations with them, but they cussedly stand in the way of that for irresponsible reasons grounded in Islamist irredentism. Of course, the deep-state actors who have a vested interest in ignoring the myriad other reasons to do away with equal-equal... from terrorism to nuclear proliferation to HDI... will ignore this also. But for whatever genuinely neutral observers and influencers exist, this is another point of fact for them to observe. On the contrary, if we also revoke the MFN status from Pakistan, it becomes a token of equal-equal.

Marginally the benefits of extending MFN as a token outweigh the benefits of our revoking it, which are also equally token and have only the symbolic value of making non-discerning aam junta feel like "something was done". That's how the GOI sees it.

Gradually pull out of SAARC, IWT, MFN, "cultural exchanges", border crossing, etc. and watch these people squirm. They are completely surrounded by a hostile neighborhood now excluding China. Do you think they can withstand the combined onslaught of economic decline, revolutions in provinces, pashtun nationalism, India, etc. They can't. No amount of Chinese/American intervention can save these people. They are on life support provided by China. All they can do is shout and poke others with a needle.

As part of post-Uri pressure building, PMO considers snapping aviation ties with Pakistan

NEW DELHI: India is considering the suspension of aviation ties with Pakistan as part of moves aimed at stepping up the pressure on Islamabad in the aftermath of the Uri terrorist attack that led to the death of 18 soldiers.

“The PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) has sought details from us on two issues — one is on bilateral flying entitlements between the two nations and the other is on Pakistani carriers flying through our airspace,” said an aviation ministry official. “A final decision will be taken at the PMO’s level.”

The official added the details had been sought three days ago. There was no response to an emailed query sent by ET to the PMO regarding this.

India said on Tuesday that it was pulling out of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit to be held in Islamabad in November this year.

The government has reviewed the Indus water treaty and will examine the most-favoured nation status accorded to Pakistan as it looks for non-military modes of retaliation.

India blames Pakistan for the terrorist attacks. Pakistan has denied being responsible.

No Indian carrier currently flies to any destination across the border but Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operates five services a week to India. The bilateral entitlements allow carriers from India and Pakistan to operate 28 services per week to the other country.

India had suspended aviation ties with its neighbour after the terrorist attack on Parliament in 2001with the erstwhile Indian Airlines stopping flights to Pakistan at the time.

I believe such a list is needed to highlight how Baki terror affects the world, not just India.
I'll take a stab at it.
There is a terror map which is also listed in the first post of this thread. May not be up-to-date.
