Mi-8 saved hitting from MANPADS by IS

At about 11:00, in the Hama Province (the Syrian Arab Republic) a Russian transport helicopter Mi-8, which delivered humanitarian cargo accompanies by officers of the Russian reconciliation center, got under fire from militants of IS (Islamic State - outlawed in Russia) from a portable air-defense system," the center said.

"Due to the flight altitude, the timely identification of the launch and the skill of the crew in maneuvering the helicopter, the missile missed the helicopter," the center added. "The Russian military onboard were not injured.".

the S300s in hymenim and tartous are very skeletal units and not the full spectrum number of batteries the C3I systems can feed into. for more intimidation they need to ship more TELARs with missiles and reload vehicles and spread them all over the place networked back to the main S & L band 3d radar networks.

as of now I would consider them more a show of force and footprint than a war fighting mode field unit.

and they also need ground based jammers , VHF radars and a couple of AWACS + another squadron of flankers perhaps based in damascus to complete the dhamki

syria is a smallish place so no great need for refuelers.

if they had shown some industry in getting the Brahmos/Yakhont-A ready in time, instead of dragging their feet and forcing India to do it on our own, their dhamki would be better - but still I think some form of air launched supersonic ASMs they have ...

It's a defensive formation of SAM , no one is at war in Syria , some ships have S--300 FORT NAVAL version,,. SAA has batteries of BUK and Pantsir.

Rhetoric apart no party wants a war in Syria between them.

And so the auspicious Mohammadden month of Muharram continues to see Green on Green Intra-Mohammadden sectarian based violence motivated by different interpretations of Mohammaddenism. Sunni Mohammadden majority Saudi Arabia has certainly justified the name Saudi Barbaria by bombing this funeral for father of Jalal al-Roweishan, the Interior Minister in the Shia Mohammadden sect dominated Houthi Government of Yemen, in Sanaa. Toll now reported as 140 killed and injuring 525:

found more details on chinese position on both draft
China’s envoy praised the Russian draft and said that it called for the cessation of hostilities, opening humanitarian access, enhancing the fight against terrorism and supporting UN special envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Speaking of the French draft, Liu Jieyi explained China’s abstention from the vote by the fact that the draft "does not reflect the full respect for the sovereignty, independence, unification and territorial integrity of Syria".

Islamic State (IS) has lost more than a quarter of the territory it once controlled, new data shows.
'The loss of direct road access to cross-border smuggling routes into Turkey severely restricts the group's ability to recruit new fighters from abroad, while the Iraqi government is poised to launch its offensive on Mosul."
Should the long-promised and much-delayed offensive against Mosul - expected to begin later this month - be successful, it would be a huge blow the extremists.
Mosul - Iraq's second city, under the control of the extremists since 2014 - is described as the "last bastion" for IS in Iraq, with authorities in Baghdad saying it would spell the end for the group in their country.'

Houthi's are not Sunni Mohammaddens.

Houthi’s are adherents of Shia Mohammadden sect albeit an off shoot called Zaidi / Zaydi.

Houthi’s take their name from Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi who formed the group in the 1990’s to go to bat for the Zaidi’s.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/ ... d-corridor

Amid Syrian chaos, Iran’s game plan emerges: a path to the Mediterranean.

interviews during the past four months with regional officials, influential Iraqis and residents of northern Syria have established that the land corridor has slowly taken shape since 2014. It is a complex route that weaves across Arab Iraq, through the Kurdish north, into Kurdish north-eastern Syria and through the battlefields north of Aleppo, where Iran and its allies are prevailing on the ground. It has been assembled under the noses of friend and foe, the latter of which has begun to sound the alarm in recent weeks. Turkey has been especially opposed, fearful of what such a development means for Iran’s relationship with the PKK (the Kurdistan Workers’ party), the restive Kurds in its midst, on whom much of the plan hinges.

Full Chinese FM text on UNSC vote

China reiterates political solution to Syrian crisis
UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese diplomat on Sunday voiced his deep concern at the recent military escalation in some areas in Syria, and called upon the international community to work harder to help all Syrian parties in their efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian conflict.

Liu Jieyi, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, made the statement as he was speaking at the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the current situation in Syria, which was held at the request of the United States, Britain and France following the renewed fighting in the north Syrian city of Aleppo.

The conflict in relevant areas of Syria has recently escalated and caused a heavy civilian casualty, and a UN humanitarian convoy was attacked, Liu noted, adding that China expressed its deep concerns at the grave situation on the ground.

The Syrian government force was attacked by airstrikes and suffered heavy casualties, for which China expressed regret, he said.

"We hope that all the concerned parties will enhance their coordination and prevent similar incidents from happening again," he said.

The Syrian conflict has been lingering on for about five years, China has deep sympathy for the suffering of the Syrian people, he said. "This situation cannot be allowed to continue anymore."

"The priority now is that all the parties in Syria must effectively implement the Security Council resolutions concerning the issue of Syria," Liu said. "The international community should work simultaneously on the tracks of ceasefire, political negotiation, humanitarian assistance and counter-terrorism cooperation in order to promote the solution of the Syrian question."

Meanwhile, he said, China hopes that the agreement reached by Russia and the United States regarding the cessation of hostilities among all Syrian parties will be effectively implemented so as to create opportunities for improving the situation on the ground.

"The international community should work in collaboration to urge all parties in Syria to effectively implement the agreement so as to resume the ceasefire," he said.

"The more complex the situation in Syria, the more important it is to uphold the general direction of political solution, give full play to the role of the United Nations as the main channel of the mediation, continue to support the Special Envoy de Mistura in his efforts to re-launch the Geneva Talks as soon as possible, and press ahead the Syrian-own and Syrian-led process to achievement arrangements that accommodate all interests."

Regional countries should play a positive role in promoting the political settlement of the Syrian question, he said.

Furthermore, the senior Chinese diplomat urged all the parties in Syria to "provide full humanitarian access and ensure that all the humanitarian supplies can be delivered in a timely and safe manner."

The international community should scale up humanitarian assistance to Syria in a bid to alleviate the humanitarian situation on the ground and provide assistance to neighboring countries to help them properly accommodate refugees, he said.

"Counter-terrorism is a very important component of the solution to the Syrian problem," he said. "The Syrian conflict has led to the rise and spread of terrorism, without rooting out terrorism, there will be no peace for Syrian people, and there will be no security for regional countries."

"The international community should work with resolve to combat all the terrorist force listed by the Security Council, including the Islamic State, he said. "In the process of counter-terrorism cooperation, we must enhance the intelligence sharing, and prevent social media from spreading extremist ideology and cut off the flow of terrorists and their financial channels."

"China has been making unremitting efforts to promote political solution to the Syrian problem, and we have made extensive efforts to push all Syrian parties to end the conflict as soon as possible and to achieve a comprehensive political solution," he said.

"China stands ready to play a constructive role in promoting a full, just and appropriate settlement of the Syrian problem," he added.

What happens if SyRussia stops "barrel-bombing children's hospitals" but keeps the noose tight around Aleppo and allows only de-weppunized civilians to exit? Say under Chinese supervision "on behalf of UN"? Of course NATO will simply create another "excuse" such as a "chemical attack aimed precisely at the Maternity Ward of the Osama Bin Laden Pediatric/ ObGyn Hospital and TOW Base.

Lavrov: US attack on Syrian forces in Deir ez-Zor is hardly a mistake

http://tass.ru/politika/3689617
I think that if repeated blows that were inflicted in the middle of September to the positions surrounded igilovtsami the Syrian army in the city of Deir ez-Zor, the Americans will have already explained not, as they did then, saying that it was just an error , they say I'm sorry, "- he said.

"The mistake is hard to call it, - the Minister said -. I have already said that the situation there is static, for about two years, the city is surrounded by LIH (" Islamic State "- a terrorist organization banned in Russia) Everyone was well aware where LIH,. and where the government ".

"There is no movement of the front line there was not observed, moreover, that the day after hitting the Pentagon through the mouth of one of its officials said that they were preparing this operation two days, relying on good intelligence data - continued the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation -. So it's was already a signal that part of the administration in Washington, which still wanted to intimidate Bashar al-Assad "

'Hot heads' will be calmed down - Lavrov

More:
http://tass.com/politics/905160
Moscow hopes that US supporters of airstrikes in Syria will calm down, Lavrov told.

"I heard that this (possibility of delivering airstrikes at Syrian aerodromes) was voiced from Washington," Lavrov said. "Some anonymous sources leak infromation that the White House now plans to discuss different options, and that such option was allegedly voiced as well," he added. "I think that 'hot heads' will be calmed down there after all, and this matter will be treated seriously," the foreign minister noted. 0 sap

"What is comforting is the fact that, according to the same leaks but with rather reliable information, a whole number of leading officials in the US Administration understand very well that any attack at ground targets that represent facilities of the Syrian army, will be a flagrant violation of international law," Lavrov noted

West’s expectations of Russia’s 'shrinking' after 1992 ended in hangover — Lavrov

More:
http://tass.com/politics/905166
"Maybe their inflated expectations that after 1992 or still a little bit earlier Russia, pardon my language, would be their ‘puppet’ have ended in a hangover not because we wanted to annoy but simply because we wanted very much to see our country independent, worth of living in and the one we want to be proud of," he said.

"The West, if seen as a whole, has been ruling the world for centuries," the Russian top diplomat said, adding that the situation changed after the emergence of the Soviet Union and the bipolar world order. But, despite the fact that the Soviet Union’s influence used to spread in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, "it was a closed world aloof from the global process, it was a world in itself, to a larger extent," he noted.

"When this anomaly - our being closed society was an anomaly - was gone, everybody thought that now Russia had ‘shrunk’ to its natural size and everything would be all right and they would be able to continue, like it had been since the 16th-17th centuries, to set the rules and laws and everybody would go on obeying. But, as you see they have gone wrong," Lavrov said.
