Levant crisis - III
Re: Levant crisis - III
30,000 sorties is a shockingly high #, considering the vastly larger US coalition flew "only" 100,000 sorties in the 1991 Iraq war. The Russians' losses have also been amazingly low considering all those flights.
Re: Levant crisis - III

Re: Levant crisis - III
Bakistan also flew 750 sorties of Fizzle Ya aircraft per day, and lost 1,800,000 soldiers to martyrdom in the anti-terrorist Zarb e Azb operation. And spent $1 trillion per month in its efforts to combat terrorism.
I don't trust the official pronouncements of Russia any further than I trust those of the Pakis. That is, not any further than I can spit.

Re: Levant crisis - III
Why is US interested in Palmyra now and why it was not interested before to this extent (regular bombing as claimed by BBC etc) ? It looks like with Rakka, Deir air Zor & Pamlyra under control of IS, sooner or later moderate rebels of US choice (AQ) will be mobilised to claim these towns and boundaries redrawn in ME.
This gives US backed AQ (moderate rebels) opportunity to breathe down Assad's neck with regular attacks on T4 & further West and keep them stretched,
(1000 cuts of ISI imported to West).
Also notice slag & drag on Mosul front, hardly any progress.
Things seem to be coming to a stand still.
This should be connected with Putin;s statement that Ru wants political solutions along with placating Turkey (and vice versa).

Russian Official Blames "Western Media" for Turkish Ambassador's Assassination
On Monday, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was assassinated in an Ankara art gallery by a gunman who shouted, "Don't forget Aleppo! Don't forget Syria!"Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Duma—the Russian legislature—and the former chairman of its foreign affairs committee, was quick to blame the Western media for inciting the attack through its coverage of Syria. "The hysteria around Aleppo raised by the Western media has consequences," he told LifeNews, a pro-Putin online news outlet and TV channel. "This murder is precisely a consequence of attempts to blame Russia for all the sins and crimes she did not commit. They are completely ignoring the crimes of fighters in Aleppo, and that forms a distorted and false picture of what is happening in this city, which contributed to this terrorist act…This is a result of anti-Russian hysteria, raised in the West and supported by a certain part of Turkish society."Pushkov made a similar point on his Twitter account, writing that "the death of the Russian ambassador in Turkey, a terrorist act, is the result of political and media hysteria around Aleppo from Russia's enemies."

Why killing of Russian diplomat may well bring Turkey and Russia closer https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/ ... sia-closer
Mustafa Akyol, a Turkish commentator, said Erdoğan and Putin will each want to point the finger at their perceived antagonists. “Both sides believe in a western conspiracy to set them against each other,” he said.
Diplomatic analysts said that neither leader had an incentive to disrupt a loose accord they have reached over Syria, allowing each to pursue their war aims. Turkey has ensured that its incursion into northern Syria did nothing to weaken the siege on Aleppo by Russian and pro-Assad forces. Meanwhile, Moscow is widely believed to have given its assent to Turkish ambitions to take the northern Syrian town of al-Bab, to further its aim of blocking the consolidation of a Kurdish ministate, Rojava, on Turkey’s southern flank.
“Russia and Turkey have every incentive to manage this crisis. The forced evacuation of Aleppo aids in Russia’s war effort, while Turkey has won Russian acquiescence to its efforts in [al-Bab] – which is intended to blunt Kurdish expansionism,” said Aaron Stein, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council thinktank.
He added that the assassination is likely to make bilateral ties more asymmetrical than they already are. “Russia has always had the upper hand. This just makes it stronger,” he said.

Five people in Egypt allegedly making fake videos purporting to show the wreckage of air strikes in the Syrian city of Aleppo have been arrested
(this shows Egypt firmly on Assad side now)
A camera and six mobile phones were seized at the scene. The photographer is still being held while authorities go through the material, officials said, but the other four suspects were released on bail.
Syrian activists and White Helmets rescue workers, until recently trapped inside east Aleppo’s siege barricades, have frequently been accused by critics of faking harrowing footage of the aftermath of bombings and digging survivors from rubble that have frequently emerged from the war-torn city.

IS is able to replace lost warriors where as Golden division is losing members rapidly. Tunnels, Suicide bummers & vbieds making job very slow.
With the division suffering “horrific” casualties every day, senior US Centcom officers are worried that the grinding battle is slowly destroying the division itself. If that happens, which appears likely, Iraq will lose its best guarantee against civil war – the only force capable of keeping the peace when Iraq’s sectarian divisions, temporarily dampened by having to fight a common enemy, re-emerge.

Re: Levant crisis - III
turkey has nothing to gain by killing the Russian Ambassador, putin had relaxed and normalized the trade embargoes and tourist trade with Turkey, Turkey is making a lot of money again, why would they jeopardize that ? No this was a 5th gen warfare attack on Russia and Turkey by a state actor. This state actor doesn't like the 'new equilibrium' being established in the levant, with Turkey stabilizing economically and taking anti-US positions, this is a typical intelligence-deep state attempt to subvert that.
Putin is plucking Turkey out of the US/NATO orbit like he is doing with Egypt and somebody doesn’t like that.

These people are not terrorist but Military/Intel offcer who came there because they were ordered too . most likely like all Spy/Military swap deal these people will be swapped with Syrian Soldier or Russian or Iranian ones who might have been trapped or held prisioners on the other side.
If NATO has indeed bombed Palmyra then they are just doing the works for RuAF ..that should be welcome ...... If NATO wants to see S-400 in action they should bomb Damasus or Russian Port in Tartus

Erdogan did not get much traction from EU on the refugee issue and to become member of EU and from US to who he has directly accused of sponsoring Coup via Gullen etc and even the current Russian ambassador shootout is blamed by him on them.
So his relation with both EU and US are at a very low level , He has no choice but to co-operate with Iran , Russia and other players in the region and limit his loss.
Even Russia understands that the many countries in the region are friendly to it better and if they are neutral then it is OK that is better then being a foe , So if Turkey is friendly its is good and if Saudi is neutral and has a working relationship with Russia then it is better then it being a foe.

EU is a dream shattered for Turkey, Recently Eu parliamentarians have voted to freeze talks on Turk accession into EU.
BBC
The European Parliament has voted to suspend Turkey's EU membership talks because of the Turkish government's crackdown since a coup attempt in July.
The MEPs' non-binding vote has already been dismissed as "worthless" by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The MEPs asked the European Commission and 28 national governments to impose a "temporary freeze" on the talks.
EU-Turkish ties have soured after years of stop-start negotiations, which are likely to go on, albeit very slowly.
Turkey's EU accession talks began in 2005, but only one of the 35 policy areas - called "chapters" - has been closed. A country is only ready to join the EU when it has met the criteria in all 35 chapters.

Do we have a reason to believe that the United States wants a truce, not so much for the plight of local people, but to allow the rebels, called agents of the United States by President Bashar Assad, to withdraw from the city?
