Pakistan Is the Crisis Flying Under the Radar
Why the Trump administration needs a plan for Pakistan, now.
As the sixth-most-populous country in the world (ahead of Nigeria, and behind Brazil), Pakistan is home to more than 200 million people and, by some accounts, the world’s second-largest city, Karachi. When Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was elected in May 2013, the country marked its first democratic transition between political parties since partition in 1947.. The nation also faces a virulent terrorism problem from the Pakistani Taliban, which has killed tens of thousands of civilians and troops over the past five years. Since 2006, more than 60,000 Pakistanis have been killed in terrorist events — essentially two 9/11 tragedies per year in a country with a population much smaller than the United States.Looming over all of this are the issues associated with Pakistan’s long, unsettled relationship with India. Tensions between India and Pakistan have been especially high since September, when Pakistani terrorists attacked an Indian army base in Kashmir, leaving 19 soldiers dead; the two countries have since exchanged daily cross-border fire, leading to the deaths of soldiers and civilians on both sides. Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal probably contains over 100 warheads, existing as a hedge against a similar Indian arsenal. While under a reasonable level of military security at the moment, the nuclear weapons represent the world’s least-stable nuclear capability — with the possible exception of North Korea. While under a reasonable level of military security at the moment, the nuclear weapons represent the world’s least-stable nuclear capability — with the possible exception of North Korea.Given this tableau of political instability, terrorism, and nuclear weapons, the United States should be thinking hard about how to help create a more stable situation in Pakistan, a nation that is a friend and partner, but with whom we have had significant differences over the past decades.First, the Trump administration should recognize that our levers to influence Pakistan are limited — but not entirely impotent. While we can and should be working to strengthen national ties with India, this must be done in a way that is not threatening to Pakistan. Thus, the first best option to help achieve stability in South Asia is to do all we can to encourage India to try to resolve differences with its neighbor. Washington’s role could include top-level official visits to both capitals; offering unofficial “Track 2” negotiating programs; and explicitly making peace and stability in South Asia a U.S. strategic interest, identified in our national strategic planning documents.
Second, the Trump administration should increase military assistance to Pakistan in the counterterrorism fight on the Afghan-Pakistani border. A long source of frustration for U.S. military planners — including during my time as NATO’s supreme allied commander responsible for combat operations in Afghanistan — has been Pakistani support for the Afghan Taliban. Developing a package of counterterrorism incentives for Pakistan that requires a quid pro quo of their reducing and eventually dropping support for insurgents within Afghanistan is key. Such incentives could include more robust intelligence sharing; better surveillance and strike technology; and joint operations. Washington’s efforts to sell weapons, surveillance, and intelligence systems to Islamabad have been uneven to say the least. Setting out a coherent, reliable pipeline of military assistance and sales would be very helpful.A third idea would be to increase soft-power support in Pakistan. When the United States and NATO led relief efforts following the massive earthquake in Pakistan in 2005, it had a significant and positive impact on America’s image in the country. Providing more financial aid tied to education, medicine, and humanitarian projects could help. This is an area where much suspicion lingers following medical programs that are perceived to have been tied to intelligence gathering. We need effective strategic communications alongside the aid to help recover.
Fourth and finally, it would make sense to internationalize our efforts. Working with other nations — Britain or Germany, for example — could leverage the impact of our efforts. There are also international organizations, such as the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, that exercise considerable influence in Pakistan. Strategizing jointly with international partners can help. For the Trump administration, the first set of challenges will come fast and furious, and responses will tend to be tactical. Spending some strategic time analyzing the possibility of a classic Black Swan event (low probability, high impact) like the destabilization of Pakistan would make sense. Investing time and effort early with this huge and important nation, while working closely with India, could pay significant dividends in global stability during the next few years.

Donald Trump expected to order temporary ban on refugees

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders starting on Wednesday that include a temporary ban on most refugees and a suspension of visas for citizens of Syria and six other Middle Eastern and African countries, say congressional aides and immigration experts briefed on the matter.

The president is expected to sign the first actions — including the measure to jumpstart construction of the wall — during a trip to the Department of Homeland Security. Additional actions will be rolled out over the next few days, according to one official.

Trump, who tweeted that a "big day" was planned on national security on Wednesday, is expected to ban for several months the entry of refugees into the United States, except for religious minorities escaping persecution, until more aggressive vetting is in place.

Another order will block visas being issued+ to anyone from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, said the aides and experts, who asked not to be identified.

The current proposal+ includes at least a four-month halt on all refugee admissions, as well as temporary ban on people coming from some Muslim majority countries, according to a representative of a public policy organization that monitors refugee issues. The person was briefed on the details of that proposed action by a government official.

In his tweet late on Tuesday, Trump said: "Big day planned on NATIONAL SECURITY tomorrow. Among many other things, we will build the wall!"

The border security measures probably include directing the construction of a border wall with Mexico and other actions to cut the number of illegal immigrants living in the United States.

The sources say the first of the orders will be signed on Wednesday. With Trump considering measures to tighten border security, he could turn his attention to the refugee issue later this week.

Stephen Legomsky, who was chief counsel at US Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Obama administration, said the president had the authority to limit refugee admissions and the issuance of visas to specific countries if the administration determined it was in the public's interest.

"From a legal standpoint, it would be exactly within his legal rights," said Legomsky, a professor at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. "But from a policy standpoint, it would be terrible idea because there is such an urgent humanitarian need right now for refugees."

The Republican president, who took office last Friday, was expected to sign the first of the orders at the Department of Homeland Security, whose responsibilities include immigration and border security.

On the campaign trail, Trump initially proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, which he said would protect Americans from jihadist attacks.

Both Trump and his nominee for attorney general, Senator Jeff Sessions, have since said they would focus the restrictions on countries whose migrants could pose a threat, rather than a ban on those of a specific religion.

Many Trump supporters decried former President Barack Obama's decision to increase the number of Syrian refugees admitted to the United States over fears that those fleeing the country's civil war would carry out attacks.

Legal challenges possible

Detractors could launch legal challenges if all the countries subject to the ban are Muslim-majority nations, said immigration expert Hiroshi Motomura at UCLA School of Law.

Legal arguments could claim the executive orders discriminate against a particular religion, which would be unconstitutional, he said.

"His comments during the campaign and a number of people on his team focused very much on religion as the target," Motomura said.

To block entry from the designated countries, Trump is likely to tell the State Department to stop issuing visas to people from those nations, according to sources familiar with the visa process. He could also instruct US Customs and Border Protection to stop any current visa holders from those countries from entering the United States.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Tuesday the State and Homeland Security Departments would work on the vetting process once Trump's nominee to head the State Department, Rex Tillerson , is installed.

Other measures may include directing all agencies to finish work on a biometric identification system for non-citizens entering and exiting the United States and a crackdown on immigrants fraudulently receiving government benefits, according to the congressional aides and immigration experts.

To restrict illegal immigration, Trump has promised to build a wall on the US-Mexico border and to deport illegal migrants living inside the United States.

Trump is also expected to take part in a ceremony installing his new secretary of homeland security, retired Marine General John Kelly, on Wednesday.

Wall along Mexico border

Trump's insistence that Mexico would pay for the wall was among his most popular proposals on the campaign trail, sparking enthusiastic cheers at his raucous rallies. Mexico has repeatedly said it will not pay for any border wall.
Top Comment

Earlier this month, Trump said the building project would initially be paid for with a congressionally approved spending bill and Mexico will eventually reimburse the US, though he has not specified how he would guarantee payments.

Trump will meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto at the White House next week.

"Bacha Baazi" Variation In KP Province Celebrated :D

Saris swirl at rare transgender 'birthday' party in Peshawar
By Reuters
PESHWAR:
At a party in Peshawar, the guests’ saris twirled as they danced to the music and fed each other pieces of cake, but armed police guarding the door indicated this was no normal carefree birthday gathering. Pakistan has "vowed" to protect gender equality - specially "shemales" AKA Hijras :D
The revelers were transgender, people who run the risk of violence. Transgenders often work as dancers at weddings and other parties but are rarely allowed to hold their own celebrations.
“It’s the first time in a decade that we have openly hosted such a function,” said Farzana Jan, a leader of Trans Action Pakistan, a campaign group that estimates there are at least 500,000 transgender people in the country of 190 million.
The estimation of 500,000 is probably on the conservative side and may only refer to "members" who have "come out of the closet " :D [/size]
City authorities usually refuse permission for transgender parties, and police often raid them. But an incident last year, when a transgender activist died after being shot six times and then denied treatment at a Peshawar hospital, seems to have softened attitudes. World can expect more such "softening" , when you have an Oxford education ( Imran Khan ) person as the Head Of The Party Ruling KP Province
The event was 40-year-old Shakeela’s ‘birthday’ party, an event to celebrate the life of a transgender person in middle-age, with guests expected to bring gifts of money to help the person... ( regular "clients" ?)
In much of Pakistan, transgender people are shunned by their families and forced into begging or prostitution to support themselves. Most change their names or use only one name. However, in recent years there has slowly been greater recognition of their rights. Globalization and social media having their effect in conservative Pakistan !
This month, a court ruled that transgender people would be counted in the national census for the first time. In 2012, the Supreme Court declared equal rights for transgender citizens. A year earlier they were allowed to vote. But activists say they have a long way to go before they attain full rights and freedom from persecution. The = = with their "neighbour" India :D

Chinese Made Substandard Stents Being Sold On The Streets Of Pakistan

The perils of unapproved stents
By Dr Arshad Rehan, former president of the Association of Pakistani Cardiologists of North America (APCNA).
‘First, do no harm’ is one of the cardinal principles of medicine and bioethics. In essence it means that, given a particular scenario, a medical intervention or treatment may cause more harm than good and should therefore be avoided. Modern medicine is largely evidence-based and it is a reasonable expectation that good doctors practice it this way.The recent FIA raid at the Mayo Hospital Lahore, the teaching hospital for King Edwards Medical University – one of the finest medical teaching institution of Pakistan – was an eye-opener. The FIA found vendor stalls selling ‘coronary stents’ to patients. Besides the ethical question of commercial vendors selling their products directly to patients in a government hospital, it was shocking that the majority of the devices being sold were reportedly ‘unregistered’ or ‘unapproved’ by health authorities in Pakistan. This is scandalous to say the least. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of this and has asked for a report. No action will be taken, unless a "prominent Paki" is a victim of this scam
A coronary stent is a precision device. It is used to open blockages in arteries leading to the heart muscle under strict guidelines. It is a tubular mesh, mounted on a balloon catheter that is placed across the lesion; the balloon is then expanded under high pressure. The stent expands, approximating against the vessel wall ...
For a medical device to get approved, it must first be studied extensively in clinical trials – starting with animal studies. If the results are satisfactory, human trials are conducted. The best clinical trials are blinded and randomised to eliminate chances of bias. In the US, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates medical devices and medicines. The data is carefully and extensively vetted, and approval is only granted for devices that satisfy stringent criteria for efficacy and safety. Such standards cannot be expected in a "wild west" nation like Pakistan !
It is common knowledge in the cardiology community in Pakistan that some implanting doctors often use devices not fully backed by data. These copycat products are mostly manufactured in countries like China and Korea. They have little, if any, quality data backing their use. In most instances, they have never been studied in large randomised trials evaluating safety and efficacy. The Pakistanis have made a "strategic decision" to join the Chini bandwagon, so now you have, Chini internet system, Chinese satellite system, Chinese arms, Chinese stock exchange, Chinese made roads; it will be "hard" to reverse the process
For a developing country like Pakistan where indigenous resources and good trial data are scant, it should be mandatory to follow the FDA or the European Medicines Agency for regulating medical devices. These agencies have strict approval criteria and also review post marketing safety concerns. :((
An FDA approved DES costs around $1200 in Pakistan and a BMS around $300. An unapproved Chinese copycat DES on the other hand costs around $500-700. The price differential is the reason most often mentioned as a defence for using unapproved stents.
t is unethical to use devices that are copycat products with no large quality studies supporting their safety. These unapproved devices could be great products but we just do not know until large randomised studies confirming their bioethical standards are conducted.
There are many excellent people among the cardiology fraternity in Pakistan. There is no reason why major government hospitals cannot come together as a group to negotiate better prices for medical devices. There are only minor differences in the efficacy and safety data amongst FDA-approved coronary stents. Cardiology leaders from across major hospitals should sit together, decide on data-driven inventory preferences and play hardball with the manufacturers. Standardising inventory across hospitals will certainly result in major cost savings and decrease avenues for corruption. It will be much better for the "learned Doctor" to come out of his "retirment" in Massaland and do a pro-bono stint in Pakistan !

Surgical strikes: On eve of Republic Day, gallantry awards for heroic jawans

NEW DELHI: On the eve of Republic Day, the commanding officers of the 4 & 9 Para Special Forces which took part in last year's surgical strikes were awarded Yudh Seva medals.

Major Mohit Suri of the 4 para was awarded the Kirti Chakra, and five personnel who were part of the operation were awarded the Shaurya Chakra.

The Kirti Chakra and the Shaurya Chakra are peacetime gallantry awards, while the Yudh Seva medal is a wartime award.

The Army conducted surgical strikes on terror launchpads across the Line of Control in September last last year, after a terrorist attack on an army camp in Uri , Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of 19 jawans.

The strikes was widely hailed by as a strong move against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism, and the Army's new chief General Bipin Rawat has said it is prepared to use the tactic again if needed.

They also use this to test the Babur cruise missile.
They have started testing from this site after I posted here on BRF about how they were launching their NoKo origin liquid fueled missiles from Mashood Firing Range near Jhelum ( 32°51'27.69"N 73°32'22.86"E) and the missiles were flying over densely populated towns and cities including N sites.

One reason why the Pakis claim that Nasr is N tipped, is because their National Defence Complex at fatehjung which manufacturers Babur, Nasr, and Chinese origin solid fueled Shaheen I&II, also manufactures Depleted Uranium 105 and 125mm tank shells

These clever-by half Al-Bakis may be using a depleted uranium shell as one of the warheads and are calling the Nasr N tipped.
The damn thing is a guided MBRL at best and is a green painted WS-2 Weishi Rocket System of the Cheenis

Sunni Terrorist Fragments of Unstable Pakistan- November 7, 2016

X Posted on the Analyzing CPEC Thread

Why is PML-N being so secretive about CPEC’s investment plan?

If the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) wasn’t already an enigma, the recent debates regarding its pros and cons have muddled this into an even bigger mess. On one hand, there are the knockers who didn’t shy away from labelling it as the future East India Company (EIC), and on the other, we have the blind patriots – the ones that hold CPEC at the highest level of sanctity, that merely questioning the transparency regarding CPEC’s projects amounts to treason for them.

Undoubtedly, these directionless debates have a lot to do with the suspicion and political sensitivity created by the government around the CPEC framework. However, to me, both prevalent views are far-fetched and perilous to national interests.

At first, to equate China’s role, within the context of the CPEC project, with that of EIC is simply an embellishment. Such an over-statement has been countered by various writers in recent days, rather successfully. And quiet evidently, a strict comparison of both is fallacious and misplaced for the simple reason that the days of claiming ‘EIC is like colonialism’ are long gone. Since Pakistan was in a weak state, China’s investment should have been welcomed. China already has deep pockets, thus one should not expect the country to take anything away from us, the way the EIC robbed the subcontinent of its resources.

However, the EIC analogy cannot be completely disregarded. The days of colonialism might be past us, yet, states no longer employ the weapons of the colonial era to subjugate other states, as capitalism now does it for them. In the words of Kwame Nkrumah, “Capitalism is but the gentlemen’s way of slavery.”

For a state to thrive in this era of capitalism, its financial independence is integral. When a state is financially dependent on another, the way our country was on Saudi Arabia and the United States, that is when a phenomena like that of the EIC in the subcontinent occurs.

Nevertheless, it is the second view that seems more precarious. Nonsensical patriots, who are trying to make CPEC a sacred cow, are forgetting that it is not China’s gift via the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government to the people of Pakistan. If that were the case, then there would be nothing to ponder over. But to our dismay, most of the projects under CPEC are loans which we, the public exchequer, will have to pay back. Unfortunately, the mysterious CPEC framework agreement has not been revealed yet, thereby, we do not know about the terms and conditions encircling the proposed $51 billion investment. In the words of the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, “I don’t know out of $46 billion [in CPEC deals] how much is debt, how much is in equity, and how much is in kind.”

Thus, turning a blind eye to the whole thing is not patriotism, but on a very conservative scale, it is imprudence.

Both the views advanced in the CPEC debate have been poles apart. Ignoring the fact that we as a nation are currently facing a paradox – where on one hand, there is the necessity for such an extravagant investment in our country and on the other, the fear of subjugation at the expense of such an investment.

The antidote for this problem lies with the government, who is primarily responsible for the smooth and uncontroversial functioning of the corridor projects. Unfortunately, the PML-N government has made this matter more ambiguous by building a smokescreen around the CPEC framework agreement. Secondly, and more recently, the ignorance towards Public Procurement Rules in CPEC projects means that the impetus for speculations has been renewed. There is an inherent need for the government to step up and put an end to all the speculations by implying transparency in the CPEC projects.

It is unfortunate that the Sino-Pak friendship is being questioned at a time where a collaboration between the two friendly states is at an unprecedented high – the reason being the lack of transparency around this collaboration. Thus, an onus also lies on the Chinese counterparts as well; they must realise that giving loans through backdoor channels won’t help their cause. For the success of their ‘One Belt One Road’ plan, of which CPEC is an integral part, they need to make sure that the people of Pakistan are engaged and given a sense of ownership in the corridor. The US-Pakistan relationship must serve as a lesson to be learnt – despite the fact that the US injected billions of dollars into Pakistan over the last decade, they were still disliked as a country.

For now, as a nation, we have to redeem ourselves from this state of disunity and realise that by labelling CPEC as a form of colonialism, or making it contentious, might dissuade our foreign investors. Similarly, turning a blind eye to accountability would mean renting Pakistan out on the terms and conditions of investors. Therefore, positive criticism and calculated pressure must be exerted on the authorities to ensure that we are provided with the chance to utilise our strategic location. Firstly, to warrant a profit out of the loans we are availing, and secondly, to result in economic prosperity rather than a burden of unpayable debts.

Cyber security threat to Pakistan unveiled
Senior military official briefed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology on the issue of the cyber security challenge to Pakistan.Director General Special Communications Organisation (SCO) Maj-Gen Amir Azeem Bajwa informed the members that the network which brings internet traffic into Pakistan through submarine cables has been developed by a consortium that has Indian companies either as partners or shareholders, which is a serious security concern.RAA "hidden hand " ?
Seeking approval for the establishment of a cross-border optic fiber connectivity network under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the military official proposed a new alternative network system to be set up in Gwadar for the flow of internet traffic.A consortium without Indian involvement would be assigned the responsibility of laying the network along the CPEC, he said, adding that for Pakistan the security of projects under the CPEC is top priority.
Some "liberal media" websites have been a target of recent cyber attacks ; is it possible that India- the perpetual "enemy" - has been named as a "bogeyman" by the "senior military officials to deflect attention and cover the "hidden hand" of the Deep State. The new so-called cross -border optic fiber connectivity system ( to be set up in Gwadar ) for the flow of internet traffic are code words for the future integration of Paki internet traffic through the Chinese Satellite System. When this is complete, the Pakistan censorship system, IMO, will be the same as presently practised in China

Pakistan Internet traffic being hacked or routed through India, reveals DG SCO
ISLAMABAD: In a startling revelation it has come to notice that Pakistan Internet traffic is either hacked or routed through India before landing in Pakistan. Strange that it is coming to light now ; it was public knowledge IMO .So, all these years, the guardians of so-called "Pakistani Ideology" were sleeping at the wheel  :
The network which brings internet traffic into Pakistan through submarine cables has been developed by a consortium that has Indian companies either as partners or shareholders, which is a serious security concern.
Mr Bajwa was seeking approval for the establishment of a cross-border optic fiber connectivity network under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

The project will include laying of over 800 kilometres fibre optic cables along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) starting from Khunjerab to Rawalpindi to Gwadar and finally terminating in Karachi. He explained to the lawmakers that a consortium – without Indian partners – would be engaged to lay the network along the CPEC. Chini system coming soon to Pakiland ! The Paki NA and the Aam Abduls are being mentally prepared for this integration into the Chini sytem !

Maulana Abdul Aziz acquitted in all cases

ISLAMABAD: (Daily Dunya) – Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz has been acquitted in all the cases against him. A local court in Islamabad acquitted him in the last case against him too on Monday, reported Daily Dunya.Declaring the case filed by social activist Jibran Nasir and others in Aabpara police station as baseless, the court ordered the police to dismiss the case.It is pertinent to mention here that Jibran Nasir and others had filed the case against Maulana Abdul Aziz on December 19, 2014 while protesting outside Lal Masjid against the APS Peshawar tragedy. In his short verdict, judicial magistrate Muhammad Naseer ud-Din said that the petitioners couldn’t produce any evidence against the cleric before the police. Police had already declared Maulana Abdul Aziz as innocent in its details report.

Hindus helpless against graveyard encroachment despite court order
The Express Tribune T
LAHORE:
Even after orders from the Supreme Court four years ago and a recent decision by a civil court in their favour, the Hindu community is running from pillar to post to take possession of their graveyard. An SC bench, comprising Justice (Retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jilani and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, on August 13, 2012, ruled, “Prima facie the encroachments made on the land of Balmiki community is violating the Constitution. We were therefore persuaded to direct the chief secretary Punjab, DCO Lahore and DG LDA to ensure that all encroachments are removed within 30 days, strictly after observing due process.”
So, Ganja Sharif's recent "reaching out " to the Hindu community was all a sham and only meant for the TV cameras only
Its inaugural ceremony was scheduled for May 24, 2014, but it was disrupted by locals on the instigation of an influential from the area named Islamuddin. He was allegedly one of the encroachers who was dispossessed by the government, said Hindu Sudhar Sabha President Amarnath Randhawa. He said in 2016, the entrance gate was demolished after work resumed on the Orange Line Metro Train Project. Jumping on the opportunity, some people took possession of the graveyard once again, he said.
Islamudin told The Express Tribune that he had nothing to do with the possession of the graveyard. He added he was never in possession of the land and rejected the notion that he was helping certain elements dispossess the Hindus.Siddique Masih, the brother of the plaintiff in the case before civil court, told The Express Tribune that the graveyard belonged only to Christians. He said despite the court’s decision, they would look to other forums.

X Posted from the “Army strikes terror camps in PoK” thread, more from Indian Express.

This Republic Day gallantry awards will be given to Special Force members involved in the cross LoC boots on the ground surgical strikes on Mohammadden Terrorist launch-pads setup by the uniformed Jihadi’s of the Punjabi dominated military of the Mohammadden Terrorist Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Mohammadden Terrorist Fomenting Islamic Republic of Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Here it may be noted that while the citations say nothing about cross Loc Boots on the Ground Surgical Strikes to maintain secrecy of operational details, “official sources confirmed that the bulk of the awards to 4 Para SF and 9 Para SF in the list are for the surgical strikes” :
On gallantry list: Army men who carried out LoC surgical strikes

Departing from practice, the Army did not release the citations for the acts that got the honours — the operation has remained classified till date.

Written by Sushant Singh | New Delhi | Published:January 26, 2017 4:21 am

Nineteen personnel of two Special Forces (SF) battalions which carried out surgical strikes along the Line of Control (LoC) last September were decorated Wednesday with gallantry awards, including a Kirti Chakra and five Shaurya Chakra, on the eve of the Republic Day.

Departing from practice, the Army did not release the citations for the acts that got the honours — the operation has remained classified till date.

Major Rohit Suri of 4 Para SF was awarded the Kirti Chakra while Colonel Kapil Yadav, Commanding Officer of 9 Para SF, and Colonel Harpreet Sandhu, Commanding Officer of 4 Para SF, were awarded the Yudh Seva Medal for the operation.

The list of awards for these two units includes a Kirti Chakra, India’s second highest peacetime gallantry award after the Ashok Chakra, five Shaurya Chakra, the third highest peacetime gallantry award, and 13 Sena Medal for gallantry.

Besides these awards, 12 men from these units have been given Mention in Despatches which is meant to recognise distinguished and meritorious service in operational areas and acts of gallantry.

The Army did not release the citations of the awarded personnel. An official source said: “Every citation contains the description of the qualifying act, and putting that out will let everything be known about the operation, including tactics. Special Forces operations have to be kept secret. We also did not release citations for gallantry awards after the operations in Myanmar in 2015.”

The two SF battalions are also deployed for counter-insurgency duties in Jammu and Kashmir and some of the awards to the personnel could possibly be for operations against terrorists. But official sources confirmed that the bulk of the awards to 4 Para SF and 9 Para SF in the list are for the surgical strikes.

The two units struck at terror launch pads along the LoC on September 29 last year, in response to a terror attack on the Uri Army camp on September 18, which led to the death of 19 Army soldiers. ……………….

Guys, I see US deep states's footprint in Trump's decision to ban Muslims from 6-7 Muslim countries for being infested with Jihadis, but spared the biggest and most potent terrorist country, TSP, from the dubious distinction. Now, whether or not one agrees with Trump is not the issue, rather, US deep state's continuing to molly coddle TSP is alive and kicking. This gives you a hint on what Trump means by eradicating Islamic extremism from the face of the earth. Had Trump included TSP, the embarrassment among TSP RAPE would have been palpable.

There are troops in afghanistan. The northern route is controlled by russia. They cant ban both iran and pakistan at the same time.

Even for iran, until india's chabahar port is complete - as of now there is only one plausible realistic route is through pakistan. So unless trump moves out of afghanistan, his ba**s are in Pakistan's hands.

Looks like, China has started to dictate terms. Interesting times ahead.
The government has restored the capacity of a coal-fired power project in Hub, Balochistan, to 1,320 megawatts after the Chinese company that was developing the project reportedly took up the matter at the highest level.
The 1,320MW Hub power project, to be run on imported coal, is being developed by a consortium of Hub Power Company and China Power International Holding Company at an estimated cost of $2.5 billion. The 330MW Thar project is being developed by Thar Energy Ltd of Hub Power Company and will use local coal.

In November, a meeting of the Private Power and Infrastructure Board presided over by Minister of Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif scaled down the 1,320MW plant to 660MW as part of the overall decision to contain power plants based on imported fuels.
However, the Chinese side took up the matter at the highest level and followed it up at the sixth Joint Cooperation Committee meeting of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in Beijing (CPEC) in December.

Folks, we have to accept that the US will never go that far with respect to Pakistan which will gladden our hearts. Even when the American soldiers & CIA analysts were being killed in Afghanistan, even when the Pentagon was extremely unhappy, even when the Pakis blackmailed the US over logistics, even when the Pakis continuously and blatantly double-crossed the Americans and even when Pakistan was found with its pants and other things down after Abbottabad, the US refrained from any action except to handle Pakistan superficially with not even a reprimand ! The US would also have some reason or the other and some would see it as reasonable too. My bet is that even if the US & China come to blows over the Indo-China Sea, the US would still not see Pakistan as a close ally of China that needed to be dealt with. In the long-term strategy of the US, we needed to be checkmated as well (unlike what happened to China when it was let loose on the world practically unrestrained by the US for almost two decades after 1972 before it woke-up) and Pakistan would fulfill that role. Both the US & China use Pakistan against us and that is a big problem for us. That's why we have to deal with Pakistan ourselves disregarding the US advice or warning or irrespective of the status of the US-Pakistan relationship. We have to discourage the US from talking to us about India-Pakistan relationship as we go about our business of dismantling Pakistan.

Building and losing reserves
Start with a little perspective. Our foreign exchange reserves hit a high point in 1983, the last time we were entangled in a damaging ‘alliance’ with the superpower midwifed by a military dictator. The very next year, in 1984, they plunged steeply to below three months of import cover as debt-service payments connected with the borrowing in the early 1980s kicked in.
The author is discussing this serious economic topics ( building and losing reserves ) in a serious tone, in the DAWN farticle without realizing that macro-economic concepts are building reserves, maintaining liquidity , financially living within your means, all apply to normal countries in normal times. First Pakistan cannot be considered , by any imagination a normal country, and secondly these are not normal economic times for this terror -fomenting entity. Pakistan is living hand to mouth on a daily basis, not knowing where it's next meal is coming from . . Right now the current flavour of the year is the so-called CPEC. Pakiland has put all it's eggs in the Chini basket, but is still heavy dependent on dole from Massa . The Paki Army is famous for gobbling up all scarce resources, even to the point of requisitioning for its own use, RESERVES, earlier ear-marked for a specific cause ( eg. education, agriculture, infra-structure projects etc). So, to talk about reserves and reserve funds ( even on paper !) is laughable !.

In 1972, CIA said Pakistan's pro-West tilt 'stems from fear of India' - Shailaja Neelakantan, ToI
Pakistan's pro-US tilt is the direct result of its "fear of India," says one of the thousands of documents the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) released earlier this month.

"Pakistan's pro-Western orientation stems from her fear of India and USSR rather than any basic sympathy with capitalism or Christian civilisation. {Sympathy for Christian civilization? Why does the US expect a Muslim country to sympathize with Christian civilization? What is there to sympathize with anyway? And again, why does a supposedly 'secular' US talk in terms of 'Christian civilization'?} It is more negative than positive," an undated CIA document says. It adds that Pakistan at the time wasn't particularly pleased with the US.

"Pakistan is likely to continue basically pro-Western, despite annoyance at the US part in the UN handling of Kashmir and at the US position on North Africa in the UN", the document says.

A 1983 document also talks of Pakistan's obsession with India.

"Pakistan believes India has never accepted its independent existence and it wants to make it a weak buffer state under Indian hegemony. Islamabad is particularly concerned that India and the Soviets will cooperate to impose their demands on Pakistan," says the document from September 1983.

That same document talks of India's concerns about Pakistan-China closeness, US military assistance to Pakistan and interference in peace over the Indian Ocean - all concerns that hold good to this day, a whole 34 years later.

"India views Pakistan's strong ties with China with alarm and charges that Pakistan is using the Afghanistan crisis to strengthen itself against India. It opposes US weapons assistance to Pakistan and wants to maintain the Indian ocean area free of superpower rivalry," the 1983 document says.

As for India, a 1972 CIA document says the intelligence agency believed that Indians had a very real sense of "inferiority".

"In order to offset the fear that they really may be inferior, however, Indians are often so defensive - touchy and sensitive - that they appear to be offensive, that is assertive, vain, and arrogant," says the document. It then talks of India's "crushing victory over Pakistan" in the December 1971 war.

"National achievements, especially the crushing victory over Pakistan in December 1971 and the apparent ability to create a nuclear weapon, have tended to buoy self-confidence, but euphoria is transient and the feelings of national inferiority are deeply imbedded," the document says.

Trump immigration and Pakistanis

President Trump is expected to sign new orders to block immigration to the US for applicants from six countries. Luckily, Pakistan is not expected to be on that list but it must be borne in mind that the South Asian region and particularly our country is and has been home to terrorist elements and is thus under watch.

Pakistan, considering its proximity to war-ridden Iraq and Afghanistan, and Iran, may soon be included on Trump’s ban list. Currently, countries undergoing consideration for a ban include: Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Blanket bans are unjust and inhumane; the majority of persons fleeing their home countries do so for war strife or better economic and education opportunities.

Often when immigrants enter a new country, they have renewed hope, and prove themselves as hardworking; helping to build their new societies. While the requirement of safety for one’s citizens is justified, the Department of Homeland Security and Trump and his cabinet should have better sense prevail and think more along humanitarian lines. The angle of racism throughout the Trump campaign is detrimental to not only the US but operates as a divisive force throughout the world, fuelling anger and hatred.

At this point, the attitude towards Pakistan remains uncertain. If immigration continues to allow Pakistanis to enter, Pakistanis can still probably expect nerve-wracking interviews with immigration officers and longer wait times for special security screenings at US airports, more agonising than what they enjoyed before.

Furthermore, in the face of all of this melodrama, even if they are accepted into the country, some will feel like ‘second-class’ citizens. The realigning of powers and the new dynamics between Pakistan, China, India, Russia and the US paints a blurry picture at this time. We will have a more ostensible image once defence and trade talks come into the arena. For now, Pakistanis must remain wary and form a plan ‘B’ as an alternative to relocating to the US.

RAWALPINDI: Customs officials at BBIA Islamabad seized 60kg of pork products from a passenger coming from China.

Sources said customs officials on duty became suspicious of the behaviour of a passenger.

They said the Customs team took the passenger, who had arrived from Urumqi, China, into custody and tried to search her luggage.

The passenger claimed she was a diplomat, but failed to produce a diplomatic passport. During scanning of the luggage, they said, customs found 60 kg of packaged pork products in a carton. The carton was seized.

The detained passenger was identified as Zeyang Yu, hailing from Xinjiang, China. Customs officials destroyed the meat.

Spinning it, the paki way.

Pakistan’s score improves on Corruption Perception Index 2016
Pakistan’s score on the Corruption Perception Index 2016 – the most popular gauge of the Transparency International – improved five points during the past four years, depicting a constant decline in the incidences of extortion and bribery in the South Asia’s second biggest economy 8)
In 2013, Pakistan got a score of 28, in 2014 (29) and in 2015 (30)
Sohail sees the rise in score too as a flashing economic indicator, which, he said, would build confidence of investors
“This is a continuation of success stories”
Not a single one scored a perfect 100
But, here's the cop out just in case someone points out the obvious.
But, it’s still one of 10 very corrupt countries on the Index.

Fake Pakistanis Of The Paki Establishment !

Here’s How A Fake Chief Justice, Education Minister & DSP Duped the Govt :D
In a relatively awkward turn of events, yet another fake minster has been arrested. This time it was an ‘education minister’ who was apprehended from Mardan.Following the recent arrest of a fake minister who had been duping the government and its officials in all departments for six whole years, :!: it comes out no less than a shock that another person had also been scamming the people in a similar manner. That fake minister had been arrested from Lahore after he had obtained government office, staff, official favours and even a police security protocol was approved for him.
Fake Chief Justice
This does not end here as a person impersonating as the Chief Justice of Pakistan was finally apprehended outside the Supreme Court. Seeking clients ?
The imposter named Naeem Bokhari, was an employee of the law ministry.
Fake DSPAnother arrest of a fake official was made in Karachi, where a man claiming to be a DSP was arrested. Police personnel of Shahra-e-Faisal recovered fake appointment letters and other forged documents from the alleged fake DSP.
The arrest of all these fakers is a positive move but what’s astounding is that these most of these officials had duped the real departments they claimed to hold the office for. It just goes on to show how oppressed the officials are that they cannot even question their superiors even if they are mere impersonators.
These are the unlucky ones who got caught ; Allah knows , how many are there roaming cities and town of Pakistan , who are trying to make a living by this scam

ISPR Raises Its Ugly Head - Military Establishment Warns Civilians

Military warns civilians over breaking civil-military cohesion
RAWALPINDI: In an unusual development especially after the departure of ex COAS General Raheel Sharif today the ISPR reacted over the news of the land allotment to the former Army Chief.
ISPR has clarified that allotments of agricultural land to Army officers are made through constitutional provision.
In a statement, it said allotment to former Army Chief General, retired, Raheel Sharif is also under same provision and through government and army procedures. The statement added that debate with intent of maligning Army has the potential to create misunderstandings between state institutions and is detrimental to existing cohesion.
ISPR which was quite prominent in the tenure of General Raheel Sharif went into hybernation after the arrival of the new COAS General Qamar Javaid Bajwa. However today's tweet from ISPR came as surprise to many with ISPR taking clear position and warning the civil elements over creation of misunderstanding and defaming the ex Army Chief and Pakistan Army.
Raheel's image has now permanently been tainted because of the Saudi "job offer "

Zia promised Reagan Pakistan would not build nukes: CIA documents
ISLAMABAD: The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Thursday made public a letter from then-Pakistani President Zia-ul-Haq in which he had assured his counterpart Ronald Reagan that Pakistan would not build nuclear weapons. The letter, dated July 5, 1982, was written by military dictator General Zia-ul-Haq to American President Ronald Reagan in which he assured him that Pakistan would not build nuclear weapons.
In the letter, Zia had claimed that Pakistan was pursuing its nuclear programme in order derive benefits only for peaceful purposes. Zia had written that Pakistan would not take a step in the nuclear arena which would affect America and bring shame to it. Zia had written that Pakistan did not aim to acquire or build nuclear weapons. The letter is one such document among a 13 million of them, released by the CIA online.
