Have you seen the HAL products publicity?Cosmo_R wrote:
HAL is trying to stay relevant. This CH stuff is nice but given that IAF needs 200-300 fighters, this is a diversion in resource terms. They would be far better off showing how they are totally focused on getting the LCA out in numbers.
No Tejas there. Only Dhruv, LCH, HTT 40 and Jaguar Darin 3
Tejas is not HALs baby

It looks like an early stage drawing. But am happy that not in too distant future Indian armed forces will have yet another domestic designed aircraft.

Haha.. Thank you for the link.Made for great reading..
Btw I digged a little and realised we have this concept of no IAF but Indian military thread from atleast 2009 !
Long-standing practice ! Not sure if it goes further back.

If I remember right there was only an Indian military aviation thread originally. Gradually threads proliferated as this thread got overloaded. But there is a lot of overlap. Some things can fit into many threads.nirav wrote:Haha.. Thank you for the link.Made for great reading..

IAI reveals export version of Heron TP
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has developed an export-specific version of its Heron TP medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned air vehicle, which will be displayed for the first time at this month's Aero India show in Bengaluru.
..
IAI says the new Heron TP-XP "constitutes a multi-mission, multi-payload strategic aircraft" capable of operating in extreme weather conditions. IAI has previously supplied the Indian armed forces with its earlier, smaller Heron 1 UAV, and New Delhi had shown interest in also obtaining the TP model.
The Israeli company says it hopes to "further strengthen and deepen" its relationship with Indian partners, under the auspices of New Delhi's "Make in India" procurement policy. "Heron TP-XP is an important element in this ongoing co-operation," it says.

Bengaluru may give India its first jet engine; testing begins
BENGALURU: In about 24 weeks, Bengaluru will know if it can give India its first indigenous jet engine.
Having developed its first jet engine -successful certification of which will put India in the elite group comprising only three other countries -a Peenya team of 11 engineers and scientists is busy preparing for its certification. Only the US, Europe (as one entity) and Israel boast of jet engines.........

Re: Indian Military Aviation - 21 Sept 2015
^^This is so cool. Probably the best news I have heard in some time. I wish them all the good luck and success. We truly need this...a player at the low end powerplant spectrum. If the engine development capability sorted out, cruise missiles, Reaper like UAVs, the applications are immense & diverse. I hope MoD/GoI encourages them by providing more funding. Also I hope some of these ITES companies like Quest, Tatas invest in these kind of ventures as well apart from shiny US/EU based OEM tie up ventures onlee.

Is the CH HAL's baby? If the LCA is not their baby, why do we want to trust them with it since it is apparently a crucial element in the fighter stream? Nothing about Indian defense acquisition surprises me anymore. Just asking.shiv wrote:Have you seen the HAL products publicity?Cosmo_R wrote:

Israeli companies do have an effort in the area (since 2009 or so), perhaps not at this scale or for such a purpose.shiv wrote:Israel?aditp wrote:Bengaluru may give India its first jet engine; testing begins

Govt to set up panel for assessing viability of building stealth fighter with Russia
A multi-billion dollar Indian programme to co-develop a stealth fighter with Russia faces an uncertain fate with the government deciding to set up a committee to examine what the country gains from the project.
A top government source said the panel, to be headed by a three-star officer, would look into different aspects of the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) project and the technology it brings into the country to meet the air force’s future requirements.
The two countries have been discussing the project for several years but are yet to sign a $4-billion research and development (R&D) contract for the FGFA. India has already spent Rs 1,500 crore on the preliminary design stage (PDS) of the FGFA project. The PDS was completed in June 2013 on the basis of a contract inked with Russia in December 2010.
“Several things have been resolved but it is critical to assess how we benefit from the programme before making the next move. Design issues also have to be looked into,” the source said. The Indian Air Force wants the stealth fighter to have a more powerful engine as the existing one doesn’t give it super cruise capability.
A prototype called the T-50, built under the PAK-FA (Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation) project is undergoing tests in Russia. The first prototype flew its maiden sortie in January 2010.
India has a requirement for 120-130 such swing-role planes with stealth features for increased survivability, advanced avionics, smart weapons, top-end mission computers and 360-degree situational awareness.
The ability to super cruise or sustain supersonic speeds in combat configuration without kicking in fuel-guzzling afterburners is a key Indian requirement.
Former IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha told HT that affordability is a key issue and “we have to take a call if we want the FGFA.”
The IAF does not have sufficient number of warplanes to tackle a combined threat from China and Pakistan. The count of IAF’s fighter squadrons has shrunk to 34 compared to a desirable strength of 42, a capability gap the air force is struggling to fill.
The existing fleet consists of 14 squadrons of ageing MiG-21 and MiG-27 fighters that will be retired in phases by 2024. Each fighter squadron consists of about 18 planes.
The IAF hopes to add more muscle with the induction of French-built Rafales, the indigenous light combat aircraft, more Sukhoi-30s, the FGFA and a medium-weight warplane to be built in India in collaboration with a foreign player.

Good. LPI capabiity, all around stealth, supercruise - all things the IAF needs, even if the Russian's dont think it necessary. Days of hand me downs should be over.

Seen for the first time, an IAF Mirage-2000TI with a Popeye (reportedly Popeye II aka Crystal Haze) stand-off precision guided bunker busting munition.
It is also armed with MICA IR with a live seeker and a dummy booster on the portside outerwing station and another one with an inert seeker and active booster at the front portside fuselage station along with a LITENING 3 LDP on the front starboard side station and 2 RP-522 1300l supersonic drop tanks.
