Veteran diplomat KC Singh on the Saudi-Qatar spat. V.good analysis. India's deteriorating relationship with Iran ialso cause for concern.
To please Washington,we've cut oil imports from Iran, who've responded by reducing credit time, etc. Now a gas field which we supposedly discovered has been given to the Russians instead.Whenever we make progress with Iran-Modi's last visit, vested interests in Delhi and the MEA sabotage them, and we have gotten the reputation of being "unreliable" by Iran. This only aids the cause of China,Pak and Wahaabists, like the Saudis, who've been for decades sponsoring Islamic terror groups in India. Mr.Mosi should cement the relationship and end mischief-making harming this most strategic relationship.
PS:Iranian parliament shooting has probably been instigated by the Saudis who want it to keep off supporting Qatar with food supplies, etc.
Qatar has been given a 24 hr. notice" by the Saudis who want a "10 point" programme to be immediately implemented by Qatar.
The Saudis are planning to invade and show the ME region who's chief camel driver! Qatar can call upon only two nations for support,Iran and Syria/Hizbollah.It would be v.interesting to see the reaction from Russia if the Saudis invade.

Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
It wont be KSA alone that would invade Qatar. It would be Gulf's Islamic Military Alliance (with covert blessings of West) that would send boots to Qatar (it will only a last resort).
- Prior to any ground invasion, there will be big warnings, "do-list" demarcates etc.
- Interesting to see how Pak reacts to this.
- What would be the role of US's military base? Will it aid KSA, will it fig leafly aid Qatar or remain neutral. Even in neutral stand, if they say, they will signal jam Qatari airspace, QAF will be blinded and its SIGNIT will be crippled.

This is one big mess for everyone but a country load of shit for Pakistan. I am really curious on how are they reacting to this.

looks like there may have been three separate attacks.Karthik S wrote:News reports of shooting in Iranian parliament.
Parliament, khomeni's mausoleum and somewhere near the metro station.
They seem to have taken two of the attackers alive, one blew himself up and one seem to be holed up inside the parliament. This is the speculation.
confused reporting on all Indian news channels because of lack of verified information.
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
I think Iran attacks are orchestrated by Arab forces. They are sending a message to Persians, that they too have assets in Persia and as a sample, they have send a small team to Crown Jewels of Persia. They want Iran to sit just tight in Qatar issue.
This is escalating quickly (escalation ladder). Does Arabs have the real biting power or just barking too much thinking that Islamic Military Alliance and Paki forces will give them a victory. This is a big catch-22 situation for Pak. If they aid Arabs, Persia will screw them slowly in Baluchistan issue. If not, Arabs will squeeze Pakis economically.

Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
I doubt it.. you are giving too much credit to TSPs. They were more than happy to jump on to the alliance wagon and clearly backed out once Iran came in, due to the impact it would have on domestic situation.sum wrote:^^ Would believe its the case since all said and done, the TSP-ians do have lots of high level contacts with most Gulf biggies
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
8th and 9th demands are really humiliating (towards Qatari ruling family).
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
Indeed escalated unusually fast. Just a day within the Qatar demarche, "non state actors" did what they do best. This is escalating quickly (escalation ladder). Interesting times ahead

Houthis are probably on the verge of a victory, leading to the frantic calling up of Baki reserves and cutting off any means of supplies to the Houthis.

^^ My fond dream is that TSP will be caught in the pincer between these two blocks and become a modern day Lebanon
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
at one point they had rented some 100s of colombian mercs to lead the sudanese and somali mercs they had recruited off east africa. dont hear much of them now. they were promised a lot of money and UAE citizenship if they served a certain tour of duty period

They didn't wait for the deadline? Why the attack on Iran btw.
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
Going by how fast this is escalating this is pre-planned (Bombings in Tehran as well now). Dunno if Amirkhan or Saudi Barbaria is driving this. BTW is Rawheel Sharif still working with Saudi Barbarian Army?

they could have caused far more casualties with a bomb or shooting in a busy market. these memorial sites tend to be large and sparse density.
it was not intended for body count but a slap in the face of Iran hitting two of its most symbolic sites and attempt to provoke into a rash move.

Qatar can never succumb to the brazen demands of the Soothis. The Soothis too would not be this brazen unless they got the green light from the Donald!
$300B worth of arms for the US has to be paid for ,but by whom? The Soothis are broke. Therefore the squeeze on Qatar. This is part of the unwritten demands that would've been privately conveyed, along with Qatari gas sales to fall in line with Saudi/Gulfie production regime policies.
Qatar should immediately demand an UNSC meeting to discuss the same and get Russia and China on its side. Iran too accusing the Saudis of terror, attacking its parliament with proxies.A filibuster at the UN is required immediately to prevent the Saudi invasion.

Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
The Syrian conflict began becos the Norwegians found massive oil and gas deposits in Syrian onshore/offshore territory even more reserves than Kuwait. The Saudis feared that the Syrians would pipe their oil and gas into Europe ,screwing the Saudis in the process, with a shorter route, etc. They wanted their pipelines to run through Syria.
Bankrupt and unable to pay for their huge US arms to come, they're putting the squeeze on Qatar to obey like a servant in a Saudi palace, plus the confiscation of Qatari moolah and control over its gas supplies.

No wonder why he made the Exxon Mobil chief US Sec. of State! To help control the global supplies of energy! At stake are very important interests, which go beyond the polemic "who is greater terrorist" and beyond the long-term Sunni-Shia disputes.
In fact, it is all about gas. Gas in the main source of income for Qatar, which it exports using hundreds of tankers. The recently opened huge methane deposit in the middle of the Persian Gulf, which partially lies in the territorial waters of Iran, guarantees decades of wealth and prosperity for Doha.
Thus, it is a known fact that one of the reasons for Donald Trump's warm support of the setup of an "Arab NATO" is his eagerness to control this gas field.

It is also no secret that one of the causes of the war in Syria was the decision of Bashar al-Assad to ban the laying of a gas pipeline on his territory, which would have transported gas through Saudi Arabia to the Mediterranean.
After the Daesh defeat in Syria, Riyadh is reviewing another variant: through Jordan and Israel. Doha could have planned to run it through Iran and Turkey, the sworn enemies of Saudi Arabia and Israel, to the Mediterranean.
That could be the very reason why Tillerson shows no signs of anxiety, though there is ground for concern. Probably Washington has already decided to pull the trigger and to do away with Emir Tamim, Giulietto Chiesa finally wondered.

This reinforces the UBCN view that the "kidnap-ransom" part of the story is only a cover. Maybe a negotiating team went from Qatar to South Iraq and were escorted to the Hizb netaship. Money came, money seized, other money paid (or same money after "seizure", most likely, given who is the nominal gubrmand in Bag-dad). U don't think Iraq gubrmand can survive todin if they do to Eyeran/Hizb, hain? They are even begging for Gen. Vodkov's birds to come protect them.Singha wrote:reuters:

So all the tamasha is because Qatar has changed sides. Now Sona Bandar's tweets look even more curious. Esp. given huge US presence in Qatar. I mean, why is there not huge in DupleeCity? Maybe there is in private. IOW, it could be that **BOTH*** Sona Bandar and his chess-playing buddy are 400% behind Qatar changing sides. KSA and UAE are showing pique in panic? Elsewhere we hear that the $100B or $350B in arms sales are all "Letters of Intent", just repetitions from long ago.

Qatar asking Turkey, Iran about providing food, water - government official
Qatar is talking to Iran and Turkey about securing food and water supplies to stave off possible shortages two days after its biggest suppliers, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, cut trade and diplomatic ties, a government official said on Wednesday.
"We are in talks with Turkey and Iran and other countries," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the subject, adding that the supplies would be brought in through Qatar Airways cargo flights.
The official said there were enough grain supplies in the market in Qatar to last four weeks and that the government also had large strategic food reserves in Doha.
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
It is to provoke Iran to react. Iran knew what is coming. They need Russia, hence quick deal with Russkie. Invading Qatar (which is going to happen anyway ) and dragging Iran in conflicts. Unkil will be waiting for Russian reaction. If Russia is with Iran then it is long drawn conflict . If Russia is not with Iran then it is matter of months. Unkil taking care of Missile capacity and rest of the job done by coalition.
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
BTW one of my worker has somebody from his family in Qatar. All stores are almost empty. People are stocking up food and oil.

The DupleeCity tamasha is made MUCH more interesting because (i believe) Sona Bandar & Co are very much aware of SDOTUS machinations against Russia, and kissups to KSA, for the past 10 years. In this they are getting quite sophisticated. Big shouts about Russian Interference this and that, but look at the ground realities: it is all quiet backchannel deals with Comrade Vlad. So IMO, Qatar is a huge coup, to crack the Sunni/ISIS/AQ/HiC/SDOTUS combine. It would be a baaaad mistake for KSA to invade Qatar. IMO Egypt is about as willing a participant in this as Maldives. Next one to fall IMO will be Bahrain. Note that already there is fighting between UAE and the KSA's Man in Yemen, Hadi. UAE driven out of Aden airport - or was it the other way round? I am waiting for the first report of the Houthis actually taking over a major Saudi city.

CNN nomenclature: compare to their reporting on "Cash-More" as well:
A VBIED, right? Civilians killed, right? But ***NOT*** "Terrorist".At least 12 killed in rare militant attack in Tehran
Re: West Asia News and Discussions (YEMEN, gulf)
Turkey definitely has the military and jihadi clout ...and iran the location for food and water ..to jointly protect qatar. These two estranged biraders.. inheritors of old civilization states are far cleverer than saudis in general.
Erdogan would be keen to show the gcc it is he and not prince salman who is the supreme power in sunni kabila
Only one sith can rule..it is never a duopoly.
Iraq could use this bhaichara between ottomans and persians as a stick to beat a better deal out of barzani
