The recently-unveiled Afghan strategy that President Donald Trump has announced is a ploy against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a Russian political analyst and journalist has claimed.

Yes, my first instinct was to check Mac price and I did. It indicates PPP. But McDonald's is not going to make their McChicken burger cheap because local population cannot afford it. That was my point. Hence I took example of biryani because those restaurants will match local purchase power... poor the neighborhood cheaper the food. So I took 3 metro cities and took sample of average type restaurants (which would be located in middle class area) in each of them and compared prices. And you see the anomaly in paki numbers.Peregrine wrote:abhijitm Ji :abhijitm wrote:1 Indian Rupee is 1.65 PK Rupee.
1 Indian Rupee is 1.3 bangladeshi taka.
As per "official record" GDP per capita between pak and BD is not significantly different. ($1468 vs $1358)
In average (not too posh or fancy) biryani joint in Mumbai you get 1 chicken biryani for Rs 200.
Similar biryani in Lahore costs 200 PKR. Around 60% cheaper in pakistan. Makes no sense. Should be costing at least 300 PKR.
Similar biryani in Dhaka costs 270-280 Taka. Matches the exchange rate.
Pakistani living standard is rot. They don't have money to pay and hence things are dirt cheap in pakistan. They are faking both GDP and population.
It is difficult to judge prices as we are not aware of the quality.
A good Judge is the Economist – Big Mac Index
India Price: $2.76 (Rupee 178.00), Clapistan Price : Price: $3.57 (Rupee 375.00)
From the above in respect of "Like for Like" the Clapistani Prices are in US Dollars about about 35% higher in Clapistan!
As such things, seemingly are not "Dirt Cheap in Clapistan".

In May 2017 Pakistan and China signed a $50 billion agreement that included full funding for Diamer Basha and four other dams.
Although enormous, the new agreement hardly merited coverage in Pakistan. China already captured headlines and public imagination in 2013 when the two countries signed memorandums of understanding worth $46 billion to build the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. CPEC has since quietly grown to a $62 billion investment.
The latest $50 billion in memorandums now brings Chinese loans and investments in Pakistan to well over $100 billion. A senior member of the CPEC team at Pakistan’s Ministry for Planning, Development, and Reform predicts that figure will ultimately grow to $150 billion. If the dams face cost overruns — which are 96 percent on average — then that will be a conservative estimate.
Tom Miller, author of “China’s Asian Dream,” has said that Chinese officials privately admit that they expect to lose up to 80 percent of their investment in Pakistan.
“The Chinese rate is 8.50 rupees per kilowatt hour of coal,” says the retired official. “An efficient rate would have been 5 rupees. In India, it’s about 4 rupees. One would expect a good environmental package with their [high] rate. But they are not putting in the required controls.”
Double the last number in light of the first quote. Classic case of gold plating. The rate pays back the loan that the Chinese company took from a Chinese bank to build the plant; a commercial 5 percent interest rate; a one-time payment equal to 7 percent of the cost of the project as insurance against default (even though Pakistan has offered sovereign guarantees); and a 15 to 20 percent return on equity.
The contract is dollarized between birathersWhat Pakistan owes for the next 30 years will be calculated in dollars frozen at the 2013 exchange rate of 97.10 rupees to $1. (The current exchange rate is 105 rupees to $1.)
bhery bhery pertinent observation on the jewyes except for the fact that the US gober-mint runs the dolla sprouting press. That iz why I thought the Bakis should have used Baki rupya or the *international* Yuan to transact. He continues: “Yes, there’s a problem of returning the money and we might overextend ourselves. Is the U.S. government not over-extended? Isn’t everyone in debt? But what are our options? Even if we default, how many times has Argentina defaulted? It’s definitely not what we want, but it’s a part of the game. It’s a reality in business.”
What will happen to this world when birathers don't trust birathers?“The Chinese contribution to economic growth right now is overstated. A lot of the growth we’ve achieved is because of our own internal things,” says Ismail.
Wow ! Daylight robbery of the highest order. Usury. No wonder, Sri Lanka, Maldives & Djibouti have gone down under.pankajs wrote:Saw the report yesterday. Many interesting nuggets other than just the raw numbers.

This is the same idiot from that Katehon site. Can hardly be called a 'Russian' POV. The Pakis themselves pay for such articles by nobodies to be written and then quote it to buttress their delusional claims.
In a special interview with TOLOnews, Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of US Forces and NATO in Afghanistan, said on Saturday that the US knows the Afghan Taliban leadership is in the Quetta and Peshawar areas. He said the issue of outside sanctuaries has to be addressed but that it was “being addressed in private between the US government and the Pakistani government - but it does need to be addressed.”“Support for terrorists and insurgents has to be reduced, has to be stopped,” said Nicholson. Nothing new IMO. Similar "warnings" have been issued in the past but no concrete action has been taken to date . !
“The Quetta Shura, Peshawar Shura, these shuras are identified by cities inside Pakistan, we know Afghan Taliban leaders are in these areas,” he said. Specifically asked whether the Taliban leadership in Quetta and Pashawar and other major Pakistan cities “shouldn’t sleep in peace from now on”, he said “I won’t put words in the (US) president’s mouth but he definitely conveyed this message.”He said that following US President Donald Trump’s announcement earlier this week on his new war strategy, he, Nicholson, as a commander, has a new policy – “one based on conditions and not time.” He said: “It gives us additional capabilities. We have a direction now provided by the US policy that is being supported by NATO.”
Asked if he sees the Taliban as a terrorist organization, Nicholson said: “They do terrorist activities and they enable terrorists.”As an example he pointed to the Taliban links in the past to al-Qaeda.On whether he had a mandate to go out and kill the Taliban, Nicholson said: “It is our mandate to put military pressure on the Taliban. However, he said that the US wants a peaceful solution in Afghanistan but that the “Taliban need to know they cannot win militarily.” He said he hopes they enter the peace process. So, he is hoping for some sort of a "lite Taliban" in the Govt of Afghanistan !
his interview comes just two days after Nicholson addressed a press conference in Kabul and said the Taliban has become a “criminal organization that is more interested in profits from drugs, kidnapping and murder for hire.”He called on the group to lay down their arms and end the war. “Taliban have a simple choice: Stop fighting against your countrymen. Stop killing innocent civilians. Stop bringing hardship and misery,” he said. He also said: “We will not fail in Afghanistan. Our national security depends on that as well.” Nicholson made it clear that the US and NATO stand by the Afghan security forces against terrorists and enemies of Afghanistan and said that the Taliban cannot win on the battlefield. “It’s time for them to join the peace process.” Pressure on Pakistan is the key to Taliban behaviour. Pakistan wants nothing less than an anti-India Govt, installed in Afghanistan, playing on the Islamic angle. This is not possible in the Afghanistan of 2017. !
ISLAMABAD – US Acting Assistant Secretary of State, Alice Wells will arrive Pakistan on an emergency touron tomorrow (Monday).
According to media reports, In reference to US President Donald Trump’s statement about Pakistan, she will take Pakistan military and civil leadership into confidence pertaining to US policy and the present situation in the South Asia. It is her second visit to Pakistan within two weeks. US State Department has portrayed her visit very important. Most likely, she may bypass the new FO, and head straight to Bajwa's office.![]()
. Whether POTUS, means business, this time, is anybody's guess !Her visit to Islamabad will be the American diplomat’s second this month which follows President Donald Trump’s announcement of new Afghan policy with deployment of thousands more troops in the war-torn country and pillorying Pakistan for offering safe haven to militants
.LAHORE – The transgender community has rejected the figures of transgender population revealed in the latest census carried out earlier this year by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS), calling the data inaccurate and misleading.
The country’s total population of transgender people reported in the sixth Population and Housing Census is 10,418. The second highest population of transgender people is in Sindh — 2,527 or 24pc. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa houses 913 transgender people and Balochistan 109. Anyone with a basic knowledge of Pakiland, would outright reject this "manufactured in Sialkot number" , which attempts to (wrongly ) convince (i) the the outside world that in an Islamic society, such deviations are rare . Probably, the Mullah Brigade would also "laugh out " this obvious deception !
While talking to Daily Pakistan, trans rights activist Kami Sid claimed that according to an estimate, there are more than 3 million transgender persons across Pakistan, with almost 20,000 transgender persons registered in Lahore-based trans rights organization NAZ. The Hijras, if they have political clout, should demand a recount of this deception, which sees to underplay their influence in the Islamic society of Pakiland![]()
She said that the procedure of counting transgender people was overtly flawed. “Who have they counted?” Kami asked, adding the identification of transgender is still disputed. If Pakistan, truly wants all sectors of society sitting at the "democratic table", they should "reserve" a few seats for them in their National Assembly. Doubt that it can happen in the Islam charged atmosphere of current Pakistan![]()

Trump’s Afghan policy: Senior US official to arrive in Pakistan tomorrow
Pakistan postponed a visit by a US acting Assistant Secretary of State, officials said, as small protests broke out against President Donald Trump’s accusations that Islamabad was prolonging the war in Afghanistan. The visit of Alice Wells, acting assistant Secretary of State for South and Asian Affairs, scheduled for Monday, would have been the first high-profile visit by a US official since Trump’s Afghan policy speech on Aug. 21. “At the request of the Government of Pakistan, Acting Assistant Secretary Wells’ trip has been postponed until a mutually convenient time,” a US Embassy spokesperson told Reuters in Islamabad on Sunday. The Paki Deep State is "preparing" the awaam in advance , for "further economic hardships" which will be blamed squarely on Massa.![]()
Police disperse rally from marching towards US Consulate in KarachiPakistan’s foreign ministry released a statement with similar wording.Neither side gave a reason for the postponement, but U.S. officials working in Pakistan have been on high-alert since Monday’s speech.
Trump accused Pakistan of harbouring “agents of chaos” and providing safe havens to militant groups waging an insurgency against a US-backed government in Kabul.Pakistani officials responded by saying the US should not “scapegoat” Pakistan and accused the American military of failing to eliminate militant sanctuaries inside Afghanistan.
Police on Sunday resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas to stop a rally which was marching towards the US Consulate in Karachi. The rally was organised by the Imamia Student Organisation (ISO), and was intended to march from Numaish to the US Consulate located on MT Khan Road. However, the rally was forcefully dispersed near the Shah-e-Khurasan Imambargah by the police to prevent them from marching towards the US consulate.
The "Death to America" rally, comprised of nearly 500 protesters, was taken out to protest against the recent statement by US President Donald Trump who accused Pakistan of providing safe havens to terror groups.
The rally titled ‘Death to America’ was carried out in Lahore as well, on the Canal Bank Road that turned the traffic sluggish. The Paki Awaam are brain-washed too well by their leaders . Rightly or wrongly the US is the main target. Pakistan (fauj) "resents" the dirty work that she is ordered to do by the US for which is paid "top dollars" as befits a rentier state. And at the same time, it does that , it creates an Anti USA atmosphere through it's propaganda , which the Aam Abduls "lap it up" and manifests itself in protest, violence, danger to US citizens living in Pakistan. IOW, it also serves as a Diplomatic Tool for Pakiland !
The former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan on Sunday said President Trump is more focused on Pakistan than his last two predecessors.
“I don't think either President Bush or President Obama focused as sharply, as clearly, that the sanctuary issue, Pakistan's both role as a facilitator of and a help to Afghanistan and as a sanctuary for those who fight us and in exchange, receive a lot of assistance, is not the number,” Zalmay Khalilzad, the ambassador to Afghanistan under President Bush, said on ABC's "This Week."
“This has been, in my judgment, the single most important factor, the Pakistan problem, for prolonging the war ... the sanctuary issues.” Trump's new policy on Afghanistan, announced last week, includes a plan to pressure Pakistan into taking a harder line on terrorist groups. Trump accused the country of providing safe havens to such groups.
Khalilzad said the United States has leverage over Pakistan it has not yet used, including cutting off assistance. If USA can find ways and means of keeping its supply route open , without transiting through Pakistan, then it is possible to apply "maximum pressure" as suggested by the Ex Ambassador . Otherwise, IMO, it will have to succumb to Paki blackmail pressure
“We have the leverage of putting those individuals, as we do it in the case of ... Russia — or we do it in the case of Iran, to put individuals who support groups such as the Taliban, terrorist groups like Haqqani, on a blacklist,” he said. Bush and Obama also tried to pressure Pakistan into taking a harder line on terrorist groups, but their actions did not yield significant results, thanks in part to fears of alienating a major non-NATO ally. Pakistan denies that it provides safe haven to terrorists. Like it denied that they knew that OBL was living a few kilometres away from the Paki equivalent of West Point ! ( Kakul )![]()
Islamabad: Professor Dr. Gholam Mujtaba, a senior leader of the Republican Party of the United States, met President of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) Maulana Fazlur Rahman, says a press release issued here. They discussed matters related to eliminating terrorism, particularly in Fata and tribal areas that borders Afghanistan, and the chaos in held Kashmir. “There is a need to address U.S. concerns in all seriousness and above political rhetoric by Pakistani politicians”, said Dr. Mujtaba. Of course, this is all couched in diplomatic language so as not to offend the Maulana's H & D![]()
“Maulana Fazalur Rahman is in a position to help bring peace in the region, and the meeting will result in positive outcome by engaging all the stake-holders and crushing terrorist networks. There is a communication gap between the leadership the regional and international stake-holders, and the same has been maintained purposely by forces inimical to Pakistan which has resulted in policy shift of Pakistan.![]()
It was well crafted by the foes of Pakistan and the United States to dismantle the ever growing relationship between both the nations. I will do my best to salvage the situation in the larger interest of Pakistan and the United States”, the statement of Dr. Gholam Mujtaba added. Whether the Doctor has the official blessings of GOTUS in this mission is not stated, but obviously, he is hoping that Diesel ( who is a full-fledged supporter of the "Good Taliban - the Afghan "branch" ) will tone down his anti- US statements for which - I am sure - he would be promised "more than enough" compensation![]()
ISLAMABAD: Auditors have found gross mismanagement and financial errors worth billions of rupees in the 2016 Haj operation, and uncovered a move by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to grant illegal favours to banks that collected Haj fees from applicants.“Audit is of the view that non-adjustment of advances was [a] violation of rules and may lead to misappropriation,” said the auditor general of Pakistan’s (AGP) report on the ministry’s finances.
The most serious audit objection relates to the ministry’s failure to provide documentary proof of expenditures made in regard to a Rs4.94 billion advance, paid to the Director General Haj, Jeddah from the Haj account and the Pilgrim Welfare Fund for the 2015 Haj operation. It is obviously illegal to misappropriate government funds but in Pakistan, which opted itself to be an Islamic Republic, ( to gain the sympathy of the Ummah against Non - Islamic India ) it should be crime of the highest order to fleece the government in the name of one of the five pillars of Malsi ie Hajj !!!
Most damning, however, is the revelation that while the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony was informed about the audit requirements August 18, 2016, it submitted no reply to the AGP office. Fear of retribution, high officials involved in the scam , "do-not care" attitude , it could be any of these reasons !
Apart from not producing vouchers and other documentary evidence related to Haj expenditure, there are 10 other serious allegations of mismanagement against the ministry, most of which are related to the Haj operation.
One audit objection related to the ‘illegal change in the MoUs to favour banks’, which allowed banks to keep the profits on the amounts submitted by unsuccessful applicants. The audit report pointed out that before Haj 2015, the profit made by banks on Haj fees submitted by applicants was forwarded to the ministry. However, an amendment was made by the ministry in its contract with the banks, without the approval of the Ministry of Law and Justice, stipulating that banks would pay the profits on fee amounts paid by successful applicants.
Due to this amendment, banks did not pay interest to the ministry on the amounts submitted by unsuccessful applicants, which were retained for 60 days or more. The ministry also did not extend any support to the auditors in determining the financial implication of this change, the report stated. When the whole government apparatus is corrupt from the top ( Ganja ) to the bottom ( the chaprasi at the Passport Office ) , the auditor's report will likely gather dust![]()
The ministry has also not recovered around Rs89.16 million in interest from the banks, in connection with late payment of Haj dues pertaining to previous years. In another objection, auditors pointed out that the ministry had failed to recover Rs83.49 million from the banks in terms of interest from fee deposits made by successful applicants. Of course, there must be some sort of a collusion between the Bank and the Ministry for this to happen . ( something like , you scratch my back, and I will scratch yours !)
Apart from "suggesting strict action", nothing else will likely be done !Ministry officials allegedly also gave another benefit to the banks by not making a term deposit of 12.50 million Saudi Riyals – the balance amount – after closing the 2014 Haj operation. This, it was estimated, caused a loss of around Rs34.02 million. Auditors have suggested strict action against the relevant officers in this regard.
The audit report also highlighted unnecessary expenditure of Rs38.91 million for rent of an office building, which could have been avoided by shifting to E- Block of the Pakistan Secretariat, where office space has been reserved for the Ministry of Religious Affairs.Auditors maintained that the ministry also caused financial losses to other government departments by charging them around Rs27.72 million for seasonal Haj duties, to serve pilgrims in Saudi Arabia and in Pakistan.
It revealed how the ministry deputed 192 of its own employees for seasonal duties, as well as 99 employees of other ministries. However, these ministries were charged for the services of the seasonal staff, instead of being paid from the Pilgrim Welfare Fund, as stated in the 2014 Haj Policy. All of this should be brought to the attention of the Mullah Brigade for necessary action ( unless they too are in on the scam and receive their necessary share of commission)
By nightfall, three big speedboats came near the ship, anchored about 70 nautical miles away from the port, and started unloading white packets. This continued for three nights with the stock of highquality heroin reaching 1,500kg.The operation was conducted under the watchful eyes of Khaled Mohamed and Mustafa, suspected to be agents of Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) {I suspect Dawood also being involved in the operation at the Pakistan end.}, who were to remain on the ship till the end of the voyage.
Agencies believe that the pure heroin, with brand names such as Lady Diana, 888 and 999, was made from opium illegally produced in south-east Afghanistan, near the border with Pakistan. Labs in Pakistan processed it in cooperation with local drug lords and the ISI, to turn it into expensive heroin, which is in great demand in Europe, the US and Southeast Asia. The final consignments - in 1kg and 500g bags - would be smuggled to various countries across the globe through sea and land routes. According to rough estimates, the sea routes out of Pakistani ports ferry 8 tonnes of heroin every year. Thus, if everything went to plan, the ship would have carried a sixth of the contraband being shipped out of Pakistan.
I respectfully disagree. I don't agree with this BS about mighty superpower USA being intimidated by pipsqueak TSP's threat to close supply routes. Two things easily US can do (and it has in the past on other 'bad guys' that threatened its interests):Falijee wrote:If USA can find ways and means of keeping its supply route open , without transiting through Pakistan, then it is possible to apply "maximum pressure" as suggested by the Ex Ambassador . On August 21, 2017, American President Donald J Trump announced his Afghanistan policy. While there was much that was 'old' (the use of military force to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table), there were also some new elements. For the first time, the US openly named Pakistan as the main culprit behind the Afghan violence. The statement also for the first time urged India to play a constructive role in Afghanistan. It is easy to dismiss the whole exercise as 'old wine in an old bottle', but that would be ignorant.
For starters, Trump has avoided his predecessor's mistake in announcing an expiry date on American intervention or the US troop presence in Afghanistan.By announcing a withdrawal date, Barack Obama actually encouraged the Taliban to wait the Americans out and in-built the failure of his 'surge' strategy!
Trump has bluntly stated that he will bomb the Taliban to the negotiating table. A few months ago, the US dropped a giant conventional bomb (MOAB or mother of all bombs), a signal in that direction. The Afghan Taliban should expect a heavier US air offensive. Trump has also put Pakistan on notice for its backing and sanctuaries for the Taliban. One should expect drone strikes in Pakistani territory.
One should not make the mistake of dismissing the new policy as 'temporary' due to the weakness of the Trump administration. The policy review has a clear Pentagon stamp on it. Trump relies heavily on military advice and this is no exception. So irrespective of whatever may be the fate of the Trump presidency, this policy prescription is likely to last a while.
Looking at the recent moves by the US on Kashmir, together with its new Afghan formulations, it marks a 'revolutionary' change from the past. On June 26, 2017 when Prime Minister Narendra D Modi visited the US, the Americans declared the Hizbul Mujhideen international terrorists. It was a major diplomatic coup for India. Last week, as a follow up measure, the US declared the HM an international terrorist organisation. It is for the first time in 70 years that the US has come out totally in India's favour on the Kashmir issue. It has ipso facto rejected the Pakistani argument that HM members are 'freedom fighters', and not terrorists. The unrest in Kashmir, in the US' eyes, is terrorism and not a freedom struggle.
Worldwide Islamist attacks have indeed worked in India's favour. The rest of the Western world is likely to follow suit. Not surprisingly, news has come of the UK tightening the screws on Dawood Ibrahim, the fugitive Indian gangster involved in spreading terror in India in collaboration with Pakistan. This is a total reversal of the situation when for the last 70 years the entire Western world ganged up against India in the UN Security Council. We were saved by the Soviet Union's veto from UN intervention.Today the only major power standing behind Pakistan is China.
The enormity of the change ought to make headlines in India. After all, the US-Pakistan military relationship goes back to World War II. The Organization of Strategic Services -- that later morphed into the Central Intelligence Agency -- had cultivated contacts with Muslim officers in the Indian Army. Pakistan was quickly absorbed into the chain of pro-Western States, to surround the Soviet Union. The price the US paid for this was unstinted support to Pakistan over Kashmir and generous military aid. American military aid to Pakistan over the years has made sure that the numerically small Pakistani army had a technological edge over the larger Indian Army. This practice has continued all through under one pretext or the other.
Many Pakistanis have put on a brave face and argued that the Chinese will replace the Americans. These Pakistanis point to the huge loans China has given them. However, the Chinese cannot match the Americans in military technology. For the first time in 70 years India may begin to enjoy a qualitative military edge on the Indian subcontinent.
Obviously the aid cut off to Pakistan will take time to manifest itself on the ground. But over time this will help India deal with cross border terrorism as sophisticated arms were available to the terrorists, courtesy the Pakistan army. This will also impose caution on the Pakistani army in border skirmishes and after a time gap make India's 'Cold Start' response to terror attacks a reality.

My question: how is this almost insolvent artificial entity paying for all these "brand new toys", which ultimately will be used against the locals ( in the guise of "fighting terrorism") or against India, on one pretext or the other . !Pakistan and Russia agreed to a helicopter deal back in June 2015 when the then-Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Raheel Sharif was on a visit to Russia. A preliminary agreement was signed between Pakistani and Russian representatives at the Pakistan Army General Headquarters in Rawalpindi in August 2015. They were scheduled to be delivered in 2017.The Pakistan’s Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) has now confirmed the Pakistan Military has taken delivery of four Mi-35M helicopters. Brig. Gen. Waheed Mumtaz, an officer working for DEPO issued the statement during the annual International Military-Technical Forum (Army 2017) which took place in Moscow this month from the 22nd to 27th. The Mi-35M helicopter is expected to replace Pakistan’s fleet of obsolete AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters. Over the next few years, the Army is expected to obtain a total of 20 Mi-35M helicopters from Russia.
The Mi35M, in comparison to the Mi-24, is also fitted with new main and tail rotors. Next to a chin-mounted twin-barrel GSh-23V 23 millimeter cannon, the Mi-35M helicopter can be armed with 80 and 120 millimeter rockets, and anti-tank guided missiles. Powered by two TV3-117VMA or VK-2500 turboshaft engines, the Mi-35M can deploy anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), guided and laser-guided rockets and gun-pods. Besides its two aircrew, the Mi-35M can also carry eight armed personnel in its cabin and ferry cargo of up to 2,400 kg with a sling.
Can POTUS use this as a leverage ?Pakistan is continuously expanding its close air-support capabilities. Apart from the Mi-35M helicopters, Pakistan is also in line to receive 15 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, the sale of which was approved by the U.S Department of State in April 2015.
