Memorandums of Understanding are not legally binding contracts. Besides, this was only a letter signed only by the sender. There were no counter signatures (see photo at the bottom of the page). This is more like a Letter of Intent.

Besides, in the western courts, it is very difficult to prove loss of future revenues without the contract explicitly stating that if one of the parties defaults, the other party has a right to collect a breakup fee based on loss of income. The MOU did not state any such default conditions. If forced, the first (accused) party then can argue back that the loss of income did not occur or is not likely to occur because the aggrieved party could have found alternate sources of revenue with enough time available. In this case, pakhanistan could have played other nations or sent out the players to play in other tournaments.

One example often quoted is when the west declined to participate in the Moscow Olympics because of Soviet aggression on Afghanistan in 1980. The Soviets saw a massive loss in revenue but had no grounds to take the western nations to court.

ICC will throw this false case out on its ass. Even one of their own ex-chairmen had said it. A wise stance.

Zaka Ashraf says PCB wasting time over MoU issue with BCCI
Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) legal battle against its Indian counterpart over the resumption of bilateral series between the neighbouring countries is a ‘waste of time’, according to former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf. Zaka, while talking to reporters here Wednesday, said the PCB would not get any success as its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) signed in 2014 to assure both sides will play bilateral series from six bilateral series from 2015-2023 had no strong legal biding to force India against its stance.
https://dailytimes.com.pk/193167/zaka-a ... ssue-bcci/

Here's the letter (or so called MOU) that the pakis are waving as proof. It clearly talks about a future agreement to be entered into which will then form the basis of the contract. Either pakis are illiterate idiots or do not have qualified legal counsel to advise them on such matters.

BCCI hires Dubai-based law firm, British lawyer for ICC hearing
A day before India meet Pakistan on the cricket pitch, the BCCI geared for an off-the-field battle with the PCB by hiring a Dubai-based law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and a British lawyer for next month’s ICC hearing on the compensation claim filed by the Pakistan Board.
The BCCI has asserted that the MoU is not binding on them and the PCB failed to honour some of the commitments made in the document. The ICC hearing in the matter is scheduled from October 1 to 3.
Since the case is happening in Dubai, we needed a Dubai-based law firm. Also, the ICC follows British law so, QC Ian Mills is on board. We will fight this case till finish,” a senior BCCI official said Tuesday.
“That letter had a specific condition that BCCI will play bilateral series against Pakistan only if the PCB votes for the revenue sharing model and ‘Big Three’ Concept at the ICC Board meeting."
“However, the PCB voted against the plan which means they voted against India. So, our agreement was based on Pakistan’s acceptance and it fell through. So, where’s the question of compensation,” said the official.
The PCB is also irked that India didn’t choose them as one of the six teams for the World Test Championship. When queried, the official replied: “They voted for a four-year FTP cycle (bilateral series) from the existing eight-year cycle and we decided on our six opponents for the World Test Championship. I think it’s a fair deal.”

Hey paklurks, here's a link to the law firm that BCCI has engaged. I am sure that BCCI will ask for compensation of legal fees from PCB if PCB were to lose this case. Mind you, these people are very expensive and extremely competent (I know this firm). Equally competent is Ian Mills, QC.

Krachi running dry

City running dry
THERE are neighbourhoods in Karachi that receive water for one or two hours every 36 days; there are those who have not received water for the past six months or more; and there are those where pipelines have been laid but water has never come.
The well-off make independent bores to a depth of 30 metres or more at a cost of Rs200,000 to get brackish water. Those who cannot afford to do this pool money to develop a collective bore. Those who cannot afford to participate in this process purchase tankers collectively. In all cases, portable water is mixed with brackish water to increase the volume.
Meanwhile, the private sector has stepped in to provide relief. Entrepreneurs :rotfl: have taken over the abandoned filtration plants that were set up (one in every union council by the city government). They operate these plants ‘illegally’, in connivance with the police and ‘officials’. There are long lines at these plants where water is sold at Rs1 per litre. Water vendors also pick up water from here on Suzukis and sell it at a cost of Rs2 per litre at the household door. Entrepreneurs have also put up osmosis plants where water is sold at Rs3 to Rs4 per litre.
Surveys show that the water situation stops children from going to school, women from working, and men from being punctual at their jobs. As long as they are punctual for the namaz it should be ok

Forget about MoU etc. For these Pakis, it is just another excuse to get a free trip and have a good time in overseas, whatever the outcome may be. For the most, they come unprepared and proverbially do some rhona-dhona of sazish when they lose. They feign H&D issues for consumption of the abduls back home. Everything is deserving of ICJ, International arbitration, World Bank etc.

World Bank: India-Pakistan trade potential stands at $37 billion : World Bank

ISLAMABAD: The trade potential between India and Pakistan stands at $37 billion, according to a report which said that continued political tensions and lack of normal trade relations between the two nations have cast a shadow over cooperation efforts within South Asia.

The report 'A Glass Half Full: The Promise of Regional Trade in South Asia', which was released on Monday, has highlighted among key factors, the long list of product restrictions in bilateral trade. India and Pakistan continue to maintain long, sensitive lists of items on which no tariff concessions are granted.

The lack of normal bilateral trade relations between the two countries affects the formation or deepening of regional value-chains in various high-value trading sectors, Dawn newspaper reported quoting the report.

Pakistan has a list of 936 items and almost 17.9 per cent of tariff lines that apply to imports from all South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) countries.

India maintains a list of 25 items (0.5 per cent of tariff lines), which includes goods such as alcohol, firearms, etc.

However, it has a much longer, 64-item list, (almost 11.7 per cent of tariff lines) for Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but which effectively applies only to Pakistan, because India applies a smaller sensitive list to Sri Lanka as part of a separate India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.

Items on the Indian sensitive list can be imported at the most-favoured-nation tariffs from any SAFTA country, including Pakistan, because India accorded Pakistan the status in 1996, soon after the accession of the two countries to the World Trade Organisation.

However, Pakistan has not granted India the most-favoured-nation's status or non-discriminatory market access.

In addition, the preferential access granted by Pakistan on 82.1 per cent of tariff lines under SAFTA is partially blocked in the case of India because Pakistan maintains a negative list comprising 1,209 items that cannot be imported from

In practice, many of these items are exported from India to Pakistan through a third country, usually the United Arab Emirates.

The report says another barrier to bilateral trade is the proliferation of NTMs (nontariff measures), some of which take the form of non-tariff barriers, such as port restrictions.

Pakistan allows only 138 items to be imported from India over the Attari-Wagah land route. Furthermore, cargo trucks from either side cannot move beyond their border zones, which means that goods must be trans-loaded at the border, adding to the time and cost of trading.

Another factor impeding bilateral trade in goods and services, as well as FDI, is the encumbered visa regime that India and Pakistan have created for each other, which restricts the mobility of people between the two countries.

Continued political tensions and lack of normal trade relations between India and Pakistan have cast a shadow over cooperation efforts within South Asia, contributing to the lack of progress in the regional cooperation agenda of SAARC and SAFTA, the report said.

2018 elections declared the fairest election of all time

We, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), would like to congratulate the nation on the completion of the freest, fairest and loveliest election of all time. The election was as free as biryani being distributed by a rich seth during Ramzan, with hordes of people all across the country lining up for it. The election was so fair all brown people felt inferior to it. If it was any fairer, Pakistanis would have thought the election was Jeremy McLellan and started worshipping it. The European Union also commended the ECP: “The election was fair. Almost zero tan lines.”

It was also the most secure and safe election ever. It was as secure as a website protected by a proxy server. The ECP obviously focused on making the major provinces and the major candidates more secure. We know how the news media works — it is only newsworthy if people from a major party die in major cities. The good thing is that Imran Khan did not fall from anywhere this time around — except of course in the eyes of a lot of his initial supporters.

We were well aware that a lot of videos were made in 2013 of rigging, ballot stuffing and irregularities at polling stations during the voting process. We eradicated that problem altogether by not allowing people to make videos during the voting process — much like clothes, for ballot papers daagh toh achay hotay hain.

We even reaffirmed our belief in conservation and environmentalism by recycling ballot papers. Only one side of the ballot paper was used for the voting process so we left them at various schools as a surprise gift for incoming students. They could use the empty side of the ballot papers to draw up pictures of the great Imran Khan riding a white horse towards prosperity. The best drawing will win our new ECP flag.

We even utilised the software used by ride hailing and food delivery apps to deliver results. Much like those apps, our delivery times were imaginary and the promise of delivery speculative. You ordered nuggets from McDonalds? Well, we feel like delivering you school shoes from English Boot House so guess what you are having for lunch?

Eventually we simply used the Tinder method for the app. We swiped on the candidates we liked, we copy pasted the same pick up line and soon after sent them a wildly inappropriate picture of our electoral process. It was the picture of our pick for the winner — I believe teens these days call it a pick pic.

We do not understand the complaints about delayed results. We have never had a problem with delayed results before. People appreciate things they get after waiting a lot more. We just wanted to give our nation the sabr ka meetha phal.

The counting took long but it was a thorough process. We hired the Count from Sesame Street to count all the votes manually. He counted them 1, 2, 3, 4 ... but then he would get distracted and have to start again. Mr Count never learnt counting above a thousand so we had to just make up the numbers after that. If your party won a polling station close by, it probably won the next one too. Let’s just give it to them and go home. We were forced to do this as Mr Count was struggling with the large number of votes. Mr Count could only count a small number of votes hence the only votes he could count accurately were Jibran Nasir’s.

We announced the results with the confidence of a 13 year old pretending he has a girlfriend that nobody can meet because she lives in Islamabad. We could have announced the results earlier if we wanted to but why spoil the suspense? Delaying it allowed us to stay relevant for another couple of days and milk the media’s attention.

We could have announced the results the next day. We could have announced them an hour after polls closed. Heck, we could have announced them a week before the elections.

Not like we were making the decisions.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

Yours truly,

ECP

Sajid Disappoints Immy With His " No Political Rhetoric" Statement

UK action linked to evidence: Sajid
News International
Murtaza Ali Shah
Sept 25, 2018
LONDON: The British Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, has said the British government wants to work with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s new government, but cooperation in areas of curbing corruption and money-laundering will be strictly linked with the “evidence” of corruption and no consideration will be paid to political rhetoric.
And Imran thought that Sajid was his "friend" who would be able to circumvent UK Laws to get Paki "stolen" money back to Pakiland . And also "get" Altaf, Dar and other absconders deported back to Pakistan !
The British home secretary was in Pakistan early this week where he held wide-ranging talks with the Pakistani government officials and the two announced a new partnership to eradicate corruption and tackle terror. Speaking in Islamabad, Sajid Javid said the partnership will strive for "justice and accountability" and the PTI government said that the partnership will help eradicate money-laundering.
But in London, the home secretary cautioned against any unrealistic expectations and linked the progress against alleged money-launderers or alleged corrupt elements strictly on merit and through proofs. “We are not interested in the politics of things, but when you pursue justice, all you are interested in is evidence and going after the evidence,” he said.
Imran should know that Sajid works for HMG and not GOP
Responding to a question if the UK authorities were aware about Imran Khan’s claim that billions of pounds have been looted from Pakistan and stashed in London, the spokesman said Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC) was the right authority to assess whether “assets are legal or illegal”.
Maybe, Imran can now "try" the Goldsmith family to "help" him . He however should make sure that Maulana Fazl does not get on his case and again label him as a Zionist Agent
Imran Khan's government has pledged corruption-free governance and has promised to return to Pakistan allegedly stolen public money.

"Scared Kammandu" Planning To Return

SC assures security to Musharraf, seeks timeframe for his return
DAWN
Sept 25, 2018
The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday assured the lawyer of retired Gen Pervez Musharraf of the provision of high-level security to the former president were he to return to face pending cases against him, and directed his counsel to inform the court of the timeframe of his return within a week.
The court was hearing the National Reconciliation Ordinance case against Musharraf and others. The case pertains to the recovery of a large amount of public money wasted allegedly by former presidents Musharraf, Asif Zardari Zardari and former attorney general Malik Qayyum in the wake of the NRO in 2007. During the hearing, Musharraf's lawyer presented details of his assets in Pakistan and abroad.
According to his lawyer, Musharraf owns nothing in the country, whereas he has a flat worth 5.4 million dirhams in Dubai. A farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, worth Rs43.6m, has been leased in Musharraf's wife's name, lawyer Athar Shah told the court.
Farmhouse in Isloo "not owned" by Mush , what a joke !
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar asked the lawyer why Musharraf does not return to Pakistan. "He left the country on the pretext of pain in his backbone but he can be seen dancing abroad," the CJP remarked.
CJP is supposed to be a lawyer. However does not mind using "gutter language" against a former President Of The Islamic Republic Of Pakistan
Musharraf will also be offered the services of best available doctors in the country if he comes back, the CJP asserted. The court also ordered to de-seal his farmhouse to accommodate him upon his return.During a previous hearing, the court had rejected an affidavit moved on behalf of Musharraf through his counsel. According to the affidavit, the former military ruler owns an apartment in the United Arab Emirates worth AED5.4m, Mercedes Car model 2015 worth AED230,000, Tahoe Jeep model 2017 worth AED150,000, Impala car model 2018 worth AED130,000.
The former president also maintains a bank account at the Union National Bank, Dubai, with a balance of AED92,100 and another account in the United Bank at London with a balance of 21,550 pounds as well as shares worth AED268,653 in Dana Gas. The chief justice had wondered whether it was possible for the retired army man to have bought the apartment in downtown Dubai even if he saved all his lifetime earnings.
Now that both his "enemies" ( Ganja and Dus Percenti) are politically "eliminated" and his "friend" Imran on the Paki "throne", the chances of Mush not having "heart and back problems" are very bright indeed

How to revive sports
Pakistan’s poor performance in the recent Asian Games once again highlights the dismal state of sports in the country.
Imran believes that the cricket board should be run democratically through a constitution, and should be free of political interference from the government (Isn't the new PCB chairman a political appointee?).
the government should appoint  (see above) a sports coach at every major high school and college, if not every school, due to shortage of funds.
Our traditional sports like kabaddi and wrestling should also be given due attention.
Unused physical spaces can be utilised for sports. For example, halls when not in use, or roof tops on school buildings could be used to play badminton, table tennis or some other sports, provided some railing is installed on the edge of the roof to ensure safety :D .
If the above measures are taken, there is absolutely no reason why Pakistan, a country of more than 200 million people, cannot become a major force in sports and also provide employment to many of its citizens in the process.
Truly "grass" roots stuff.

Imran's ( Loose Cannon) Information Minister Likens Ganja Regime To East India Company !

PML-N govt was similar to East India Company, remarks info minister
Sept 25, 2018
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday criticized the former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and remarked that the party had operated in a manner similar to East India Company during its tenure.“After coming into power, the PML-N did what the East India Company had done,” Chaudhry commented while addressing a session of the national assembly (NA).The information minister commented that the PML-N government had indebted future generations by taking out loans and accumulating debt “They [PML-N] took loans worth billions to build toys to play with.”
Many Paki observers have remarked that the (gamechanger) CPEC ( Colonizing Pakistan To Enrich China !) is similar to East India Company . And the CPEC was "invented" during Ganja tenure . Hope the Chinis do not take "offense" to the remarks of this "Minister" . Just a few days ago , the Chinese dispute the Religious Minister's statement about the treatment of Uighurs
Further, the information minister said, “Every government department has been destroyed [by the former government]. Any department you visit, there are PML-N appointees sitting in it.”“Nawaz Sharif announced airports in Bannu and Thar where there is no population. He announced airports and motorways as if sweets were being distributed,” he asserted. On the subject of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s luxury vehicle auction, Chaudhry said, “We were told governments don’t run by auctioning cars.”“The opposition should do a comparison of our one-month performance with the previous government’s performance over a year and see the difference for themselves,” he added.“We will bring the change that we promised,” Chaudhry emphasized.

Madame Jalebi's Daughter ( Safely In Vienna !) Back Into The "Twitter Business"

Imaan Mazari returns to Twitter, explains her disappearance
Sept 25, 2018
day after her profile “mysteriously” disappeared from Twitter, Imaan Mazari, the daughter of Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari, returned on Monday and explained what had happened.
“After things spiraled out of control yesterday, I decided to take a step back to collect my thoughts. One cannot even begin to explain the effect of these pressure tactics on one’s nerves (no matter how strong we believe ourselves to be). My intention is never to hurt,” she tweeted.
Must have got a "lashing" from "mom" for her indiscretion !
Prior to Imaan’s tweets, Shireen Mazari also took to Twitter and said, “She chose to do so temporarily on her own so I have no doubt she will be back on twitter very soon! Frankly, there was no external pressure – although that would resonate in some quarters! Imaan would not yield to such pressure I can assure you!”

Non-bailable arrest warrant against senior Pakistani journalist - Omer Farooq Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday drew widespread condemnation after Lahore high court issued a non-bail able arrest warrant against one of the country’s most respectable and senior journalist . The court has also barred him from leaving the country.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) was quick to take note and express its concern while several journalists and media groups across the globe condemned the harassment of Almeida who works for Pakistan’s major English news daily, the Dawn.

The Lahore high court moved against Almeida for failing to attend proceedings in a petition seeking action against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme and former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in a case related to treason. Almeida’s name has also been put on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The decision against the journalist came in connection with a petition filed against Sharif for defaming state institutions after he had publicly admitted in an interview with Dawn in May this year that Pakistani terrorists were involved in the 26/11 attacks.

The former three-time Prime Minister had questioned why Ajmal Kasab and nine others were allowed to cross the border to carry out carnage in Mumbai in 2008. “Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, but should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial?” Sharif had asked during an interview, referring to the Mumbai attacks related trials which have been stalled in the anti-terrorism court in Pakistan.

The petition also seeks action against ex-PM Abbasi for allegedly not honouring his oath of office and disclosing the minutes of a National Security Council (NSC) meeting to Nawaz Sharif.

In its statement, the HRCP termed the court’s decision “regrettable”, saying that “Mr Almeida, a widely read and highly respected journalist, is being hounded for nothing more than doing his job — speaking on the record to a political figure and reporting the facts.”

“As a law-abiding citizen, Mr Almeida has no reason not to appear before the court as directed. Placing him on the ECL and issuing a non-bail able warrant is an excessive measure,” it added.

Pakistan's Definition Of Terrorism Is Different From The US Definition Of Terrorism - Hussain Haqqani

Why Pakistan Won’t Cooperate
American Interest
Hussain Haqqani
Sept 25, 2018
In case there were any doubt, Pakistan seems to have indicated that it won’t fulfill U.S. expectations for the reset in U.S.-Pakistan relations offered by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during his recent stopover in Islamabad. Prime Minister Imran Khan set the tone ahead of Pompeo’s visit, pledging not to give in to any “one-sided demands.” Other prominent politicians are delivering the same message, explicitly rejecting Pompeo’s urge to “do more” to rein in terror groups. And Pakistani leaders’ view of their country’s interests in Afghanistan, which differ vastly from those of the United States, limits the prospects of cooperation in ending the Afghan war.
Part of the problem is definitional: Pakistan’s leadership defines terrorism differently than the U.S. government and thus is unlikely to act against all terrorist groups, as Pompeo demanded. U.S. diplomats have spent almost three decades trying to lure Pakistan’s decision-makers into seeing things their way. This has led to what President Donald Trump recently described as Pakistan’s “lies and deceit” regarding the $33 billion in economic and security assistance it has accepted from the U.S. government since 9/11.
Due to the H&D factor, Pakis do not like it when someone calls them liars !
While diplomats are expected not to forsake engagement and optimism, it is equally important to understand when the other side is unwilling to compromise. Pakistan and the United States have disagreed over Afghanistan almost consistently since the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1989. Americans wanted the Soviet-installed regime to be replaced by a broad-based non-communist government while Pakistan favored hardline Pashtun fundamentalists. And this is . Mush is on record stating that .
After the bloody civil war that began with the collapse in 1992 of the Afghan communist government, Pakistan supported the rise of the Taliban and abandoned them after the 9/11 attacks only because it faced the prospect of an angry Bush Administration bombing Pakistan “back to the stone age.”
And according to the Kammandu, India stepping into the void and isolating Pakistan !
Pakistan’s then-dictator, General Pervez Musharraf, expected the U.S. military to stay in Afghanistan for a relatively short time. He hoped that Pakistan’s help in capturing al-Qaeda fighters would suffice for the Americans to declare victory and leave Afghanistan. Musharraf acknowledged years later that Pakistan continued to support the Afghan Taliban because of its fears of India’s alleged influence in Afghanistan.
Eg. Pakistan is yet to grant transit facilities to India and Afghanistan through its territory . And it is also threatening to shut off US supply routes !
Pakistan refused to align its Afghan policy with America’s even after U.S. officials publicly started criticizing its relationship with the Taliban, accompanied with periodic threats of cutting off aid. That refusal persisted for years, even when Pakistan depended on U.S. aid more than it does now and the country’s fantasy (fantasy is the right word, because the Pakis do not yet know how the Chinis operate  ) of having access to unlimited Chinese assistance had not yet taken hold.
It is unlikely that Pakistan or the Afghan Taliban will change their calculus at a time when they believe that the U.S. military is eager to leave Afghanistan. The United States has now become closer to India than to Pakistan, and China, not the United States, is viewed in Islamabad as the country’s principal benefactor.(through "gamechanger" CPEC  )
The Pakistani military has operated under the assumption that it can wait the Americans out in Afghanistan. Why would it give in and make compromises at a time when it feels its dream of American withdrawal is about to materialize? Jahil Ham-Eid believes in this !
Within a week of Pompeo’s short stopover in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Supreme Court overruled restrictions imposed by the previous government on Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), a front for the terrorist Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and its charity arm, Falahi Insaniyat Foundation (FIF). The restrictions on JuD and FIF reflected the U.S. designation of both organizations as terrorist fronts.
Both JuD and FIF are linked to LeT’s founder, Hafiz Saeed, who has been subject to United Nations sanctions since December 2008 for “participating in the financing, planning, facilitating, preparing or perpetrating of acts of activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf or in support of” LeT and al-Qaeda. Saeed and his followers are known outside Pakistan for their role in the Mumbai attacks in November 2008.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court is notorious for acting at the behest of its national security apparatus and its current Chief Justice, Saqib Nisar, has earned a reputation for being close to both the country’s establishment and the newly appointed civilian government, led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan.
The issue of terrorism has been a sticking point in relations between Pakistan and the United States almost since the end of the jihad against the Soviets in Afghanistan in 1989, during which the erstwhile allies had collaborated. While Americans have warned Pakistan to stop using jihadis as proxies against India and in Afghanistan, Pakistan has either duplicitously denied doing so or explained it away as a national security imperative.
The time may have come when that cycle of Americans warnings and Pakistani denials gives way to a recognition on both sides that their interests simply do not converge. The United States might have to increasingly assume that its admonishments will not change Pakistani behavior, while Pakistan will have to learn to live without expecting American support.

Pakistan among countries at risk of exchange rate crisis - Bilal Hussain

KARACHI: The rupee has weakened by approximately 18% against the US dollar over the past nine months. There are fears it may further lose its value, however, Pakistan is not the only country that is facing depreciation of its currency.

Nomura Holdings Inc, in its widely quoted analysis recently, has put Pakistan among seven countries – Sri Lanka, South Africa, Argentina, Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey and Ukraine – who are most at risk of exchange rate crisis for the next 12 months across 30 emerging market economies.

Govt urged to stabilise exchange rate

There are a host of other countries – dubbed as emerging markets – that are facing a similar currency weakness, which is turning their economies unstable and investors pensive. Turkey and Argentina are its casebook example.

In Pakistan’s case, the rupee depreciation has been attributed to policies of former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who is said to have kept the rupee value artificially inflated for around four years and its accumulated impact eventually gave a heavy jolt to the currency in the past nine months.

From a general perspective, while looking at international economies, largely the phenomenon has been kick-started by the increase in policy rate by the US Fed, encouraging international investors to repatriate dollars from risky markets where current account balances are posing a threat and are spiralling into bigger deficits.

Pakistan’s case is not different either. The current account deficit has swelled to $18 billion in fiscal year 2018. The higher current account deficit plays a major role in defining a currency’s value as there is meagre inflow of dollars while the outflow is quite bigger.

It makes the dollar more precious with the falling level of foreign currency reserves, resulting in its appreciation against the local currency.

This depreciation in the host country makes foreign investors pensive because they have invested in dollars in the country, which is generally used after conversion into local currency.

Even if the enterprise, the foreign investors have invested in, makes profit, the investors may not get anything from it because the profit is earned in local currency and after conversion into dollar, there is nothing left above the original investment in dollar terms.

Fed’s increased rate is more enticing for the investors to repatriate dollars from risky markets amid depreciating currencies in host countries.

Moreover, when Fed increases the rate, the signs are clear that the currencies of countries with large current account deficits will depreciate, so it makes no sense for them to not bring the money back to the US.

According to businessinsider.com, Fed bought $4.8 trillion in bonds and other assets post-2008 financial crisis. Those purchases showered the planet with trillions in cash – an effort made to alleviate the economic crisis.

Govt injected $7b to keep rupee overvalued in recent years

But now the Fed believes the global economy is doing well and it is time to pull back those dollars. “The reason this is a truly scary moment in economics is that we’ve already got Argentina and Turkey scrambling, and the Fed has only just begun. There is a long, long way to go,” Jim Edwards wrote last month in his article for businessinsider.com.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s stance in international politics and his faith in dollar definitely give a signal that there is still a bumpy road ahead. It may not be the case with China, but for risky economies it definitely is, and Pakistan also needs to be wary of that.

The News International
Sept 25, 2018
ISLAMABAD: Axact CEO Shoaib Sheikh has been arrested by Federal Investigation Agency in a fake degree case. Sheikh was arrested after a local court summoned him for a hearing on Wednesday.A senior FIA official has also confirmed Sheikh’s arrest.
Earlier in July, a district and session court in Islamabad had slapped Sheikh and 22 others with Rs. 1 million fine on each with 20 years imprisonment in Axact fake degree scandal case.
Another verdict under sections 419 and 420 of Pakistan Penal Code sentenced Sheikh and others to three years and fined Rs0.3 million each. They were also sentenced to 7 years each on violation of sections 468 and 471, and fined Rs1 million each.
The issue came to the fore in 2015 when New York Times published an article, claiming Axact sold fake degrees online through hundreds of fictitious schools. After the issue surfaced, the offices of the company were sealed and its chief executive officer and other officials were arrested.
Axact University is of course a "Dawood Ebrahim Enterprise" . And Dawood has deep roots with Paki Deep State !

German Ambassador points out dumpsites in Islamabad
The News International
Sept 25, 2018
ISLAMABAD: German Ambassador to Pakistan, Martin Kobler, has pointed out heap of dumps in some areas of federal capital Islamabad.Martin Kobler took to Twitter sharing a picture of F7/4 street 56 of Islamabad, pointing out the heap dump.
Hope the German Embassy is not located near the garbage dump site !
Martin writes, “Just driving through Islamabad. There are beautiful parts, but there are also small dumpsites everywhere like here in F 7/4 street 56. It seems solid waste disposal does not work in many parts.”
He has now taken the role of a "social worker" in addition to his duties as a "goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan"
He went on to say these dumpsites are a health hazard and breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes. What can be done?, he raised the question.
Commendable work indeed. But WHO is minding the (diplomatic ) store in Isloo. Has he subcontracted out his work

Qatari Diplos In Isloo Sleeping On Their Job ? Embassy Unable To Provide Documentation For Cars Worth Rs 250 Million !

Luxury cars recovered after factory raid in Rawalpindi
The News International
Sept 25, 2018
RAWALPINDI: Twenty one luxury vehicles were recovered after the Customs Department raided a private factory in the Rawat area on Tuesday, Geo reported.
According to the custom’s officer, the Qatar Embassy in Islamabad was unable to provide documentation of the import or export of the luxury vehicles worth 250 million rupees, in spite of them bearing number plates of the embassy.

Wow. What a set up ! What is the "Embassy" doing in Isloo? Issuing visas for Pakis to go to Doha (sifarish basis onlee !) and in turn arranging Paki houbara hunting visas in the winter for Qatari Sheikhs . Rest of the time spend in chasing Paki "female talent" and visiting underground bars and clubs where "coca cola" is served along with some haram entertainment
It was revealed that presently the vehicles are undergoing transfer from Custom House in Islamabad while action for confiscation is also in progress
IMO, the Qatari "diplomats" just do not care one bit what happens to those cars seized by the Isoo authorities . The dollar tap for them is always open ! Their rivals - the Saudis also operate on the same basis , except now under MBS, the financial screws are being tightened up a bit !
On the other hand, Qatari Ambassador Saqr Bin Mubarak Al Mansouri in conversation with Geo News claimed that the vehicles have been brought into the country through legal means in agreement with the Pakistani laws and are in possession of Qatar’s ruling family.
But can someone ask the Amb to produce documentation. is his "word of mouth" sufficient to establish ownership

Sept 25, 2018

Last night means Sept 24, 2018 . On that day, POTUS met Shushma -ji . Maybe, just maybe a handshake -with The Donald - at a social reception at the UN "has morphed into a meeting" for Echendee purposes . Remains to be seen if other "responsible" media picks up this "news"

Jinn Politics
Khaled Ahmed - Indian Express
Sept 22, 2018
POSTED IN FULL
Prime Minister Imran Khan is an exemplary personality in many ways. He is the country’s most well-known philanthropist with big charity cancer hospitals to his name and a university built for the poor and underprivileged. Despite his playboy past, he is an ascetic today, determined to say goodbye to the life of privilege and pleasure. His third marriage to a saintly Bushra Bibi was his act of penance and final submission to God.
Immy has turned "extra religious" since his marriage to the Peerni !
Khan won Punjab in a “miracle” election and decided to break the luxury code of the past by appointing its new chief minister from Taunsa, a backward part of south Punjab where he lived without electricity in his house. But Chief Minister Usman Buzdar is a feudal and has got all the Khan’s pious signals wrong. He knew about Khan’s loyalty to saint Baba Farid whose tomb in Pakpattan is about 188 km from Lahore. (In fact, that is where he met his latest deeply religious wife who controls jinns, fiery invisible creatures mentioned in the Quran.)
In Pakistan, politics is about getting influential locals and feudals on your side. What Imran has called "electables" as they can bring their whole biradari in to vote for you and the Party !
It was the practice of Khan’s wife when she was earlier married to Khawar Maneka to walk barefoot from her residence in Pakpattan to the tomb prostrating herself every now and then in the direction of the “mazhar”. In the last week of August, a crisis was triggered when her children from Khawar Maneka embarked on this trip in the wake of a rumour that had the Punjab administration in a tizzy: That Bushra Imran Khan herself was undertaking the holy walkathon, as in the past.
Her Ex Khawar Maneka and his whole extended family still "workship" the Peerni inspite of his divorce from her !
First, the Pakpattan police stopped Bushra’s children — it is said without recognising them — for blocking the road. Then they tried to stop their father, Maneka, at a security checkpost, only to see him drive off defiantly. The children were stopped again and this time the son brought armed guards to face off the police and father Maneka arrived on the scene to confront the cops. He accused the police of harassing his daughter. CM Buzdar moved too after another character linked to Imran Khan’s wife arrived at the CM house. This was Ahsan Gujjar, son of Iqbal Gujjar of Gujranwala, many times a Muslim League MPA in Punjab and owner of some contested housing societies, linked to Bushra Khan through ex-ISI Col Riaz whose daughter was a close friend of hers. (The Khans, it is said, were secretly married in Ahsan Gujjar’s house in Lahore.)
This incident shows the power of the Peerni in the Pakjabi Establishment . Would not be surprised if the Deep State has got some hold on Imran through the Peerni !
CM Buzdar was made to call Pakpattan’s district police officer (DPO) Rizwan Gondal to the CM House in Lahore. He ordered him to apologise to the Manekas for what the police had done to their children, which he refused. He was threatened by Ahsan Gujjar, then present in the CM House. He later revealed that he was also ordered by an ISI (secret service) officer of the army to do so. He was thereafter posted out of Pakpattan by the Inspector General Police Punjab, overawed by the feudal network activated on the side of Prime Minister Khan’s wife’s family.
Some have speculated that the selection of Buzdar as CM, was based on Peerni's suggestion to Immy ! And Immy made it happen for Buzdar !
The plot thickened. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of how the police officer had been removed at one in the morning and called the IG police to his court in Lahore. He also summoned Khawar Maneka who had tangled with the police in Pakpattan but Maneka, a grade-21 senior officer in the Customs Department, excused himself saying he had to pick up his granddaughter from her school. His show of muscle indicated that he wanted to put the power of the prime minister to test. CM Buzdar was himself acting on the basis of his tribal instinct which is totally irrelevant to democracy.
IMO, Nisar has got into the habit of "intervening" into all Paki problems , just to satisfy his own ego and be the saviour of Pakiland !
Too many unsavoury facts have come to light and seem to connect with Imran Khan’s pious wife who, the press reports, controls jinns and feeds them with meat on the roof of Khan’s spacious Banigala house in Islamabad. Imran Khan has published an account of his life in Pakistan: A Personal History (2011), describing how he won the Lamb-Botham libel suit against him with the help of his clairvoyant mentor, late Mian Bashir, who had also disarmed his sceptical first wife, Jemima, by accurately guessing her secret wishes.

The Writ Of The Paki Govt Extends To Only 60% Of Its Territory !

The Ungoverned Land
Khaled Ahmed
Indian Express
Sept 15, 2018
The new chief minister of Punjab is a sardar — read feudal lord — from South Punjab’s most abandoned part of Dera Ghazi Khan. Sardar Usman Buzdar is from Taunsa Sharif, which has no electricity. Taunsa has been the incubator of the proxy warriors Pakistan used in Afghanistan and India and produced leadership for the anti-Shia sectarian banned outfit called Sipah-e-Sahaba, honoured in the country for supplying proxy fodder.
Southern Pakjab is a hot bed of Islamic militancy . It is also "home" to Jaish-e-Mohamed Founder Maulana Masood Azhar !
In 1947, the British Raj bequeathed to the Muslims of India a tightly administered state. But next door Afghanistan couldn’t be called a normal state. It couldn’t prevent penetration of its territory and it couldn’t collect taxes. But the great proxy war in Afghanistan was approved by the West, fighting its decisive battle with the Soviet Union after the latter invaded Afghanistan in 1979.
At one time, even Peshawar- capital of KP -] used to be part of the Afghan Empire . The Pashtuns of Pakistan and Afghanistan have never recognized the artificial Durand Line ( the Treaty has expired !) which divides Pashtun lands . Even the Afghan Taliban consider this an artificial border !
Pakistan soon began imitating Afghanistan by losing its own writ. Karachi was literally taken over by terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan and Iran. It is still crippled by street crime. Today, Pakistan has a National Action Plan (NAP) “to crack down on terrorism”, and a National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) to restore its state authority. But both remain notable for lack of success.
Although no city has been spared by terrorists, some areas of the country are seriously lacking in the state’s outreach. Terrorism that challenged the sovereign state came from many quarters, all of them related to the ideology Pakistan was wedded to. Its Taliban were fighting in Afghanistan and the Afghan Taliban were ensconced in Pakistan together with over 3 million Afghan refugees.
The Pakistan Taliban (TTP) are fighting for an even "greener" Pakistan than what it is right now !
The tribal areas, which Pakistan wrongly left out of normal administration as some kind of tribal museum, were more infested with warriors than the rest of the country. Each tribal agency was allowed “self-rule” through warlords. Some of these satrapies were adjacent to big cities and were allowed to extract booty as the police watched.
They were also kept as "strategic reserve" to fight India . Tribals lashkars went to Kashmir for "jihad" in 1948 while the children of these tribals were enlisted by ISI to fight the Russi Infidels in Afghanistan !
The 2008 Khyber Agency war by terrorist Lashkar-e-Islam unfolded right under the nose of the administration in Peshawar. The Kurram Agency war proved too much for Islamabad as it spread to adjacent Aurakzai and Mohmand agencies, coming down to the settled districts of the old Frontier Province, Hangu and Kohat. Even in 2018, the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan can get anyone killed in Peshawar on demand.
Now, the Pashtuns themselves have become "shooting targets" of the Deep State. !
These “ungoverned” areas of Pakistan provided 40 per cent of the warriors fighting to establish a Taliban state in Afghanistan. The Afghan Taliban populated cities like Quetta and Karachi. Pakistan denied hosting Arab warriors like Osama bin Laden and Aiman Al-Zawahiri, who were discovered living comfortably in Abbottabad and Karachi respectively.
n the hinterland of Sindh, the wadera (feudal lord) never allowed the police to function normally and has not accepted the writ of the state to this day. Add to this hiatus of state authority the territory of South Punjab, where the madrassa still rules and the state obeys orders. When a brave Punjab home secretary killed Malik Ishaq, the leader of Daesh-connected Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, in a police encounter in Lahore in 2017, he was chased to his house in the north and killed to scare the Punjab police out of their wits.
In May 2012, the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court stated that the writ of the Peshawar government did not run beyond 10 km. Pakistan looked like waking up when Swat valley was occupied by Pakistani Taliban in 2009. It took action, but Fazlullah, the leader of the Taliban, fled into Afghanistan. He got little Malala Yusufzai nearly killed. Pakistan couldn’t do much. All its enemies were killed by its archenemy, the US, with drones. Today, Pakistan refuses to believe that it is falling apart. And that its writ has disappeared from 60 per cent of its territory; and foreign killers are still hiding in its territory.
As long as these foreign killers can be sent to Kashmir for "jihad", they will not be touched !

Imran's( Naya Pakistan! ) Announces Further Squeeze On Paki Media !

‘Surgical strike’: APNS seeks PM Imran’s intervention over ads approval by ‘content committee’
Sept 25, 2018
ISLAMABAD – The All Pakistan Newspapers Society has expressed its grave concern on the formation of a Content Committee for prior approval of all advertisements to be released to media, requesting Prime Minister Imran Khan to personally intervene in the matter.
The committee, formed by the federal government, includes information ministers of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, Balochistan and special assistant to prime minister on media Iftikhar Durrani and Senator Faisal Javed Khan, according to a notification issued on September 17 (Monday).
Two of Paki Media Groups ( Geo / Jang and Dawn ) are already under siege !
Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry will himself head and monitor the committee to approve the advertisements being released to media by the provincial and Federal governments.
Paki Newspapers depend on Govt Ads for their survival . So, this is one way of making them toe the Govt line !
The notification signed by the minister stated: “no advertisement should be released to print or electronic media by the provincial or federal governments without prior approval of the committee.”
In a statement, the APNS said it “considers this as a surgical strike which would perish the independence and viability of media and would be used as a lever to curb press freedom in the country”.
“The action is contrary to the assurances of PTI government for not only upholding press freedoms but also on devolution of power to provincial and district level. It is regretted that through this action, the Federal Government has initiated a policy to control print and electronic media through over centralization of advertisements which is the backbone of the media’s economy,” the statement added.
The top newspapers body stated that ever since the induction of the PTI government the quantum of the advertisements released by federal and provincial governments has declined drastically thus causing acute financial crunch and dent to the economy of newspapers particularly the regional and smaller press.
Slowly and surely the Chinese Censorship System is making its way to Pakiland !

Good News For Isloo Dwellers ! Herr Kobbler To The Rescue !

CDA officials suspended after top German envoy tweets picture of ‘dirty Islamabad’
Sept 25, 2018
ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) suspended on Tuesday its two officials after the German Ambassador to Pakistan Martin Kobler tweeted a picture of garbage in the federal capital.
Director Sanitation sprung into action and suspended the supervisor and inspector after the tweet by Kobler, who has grown popular on Pakistani twitter sphere due to his mostly positive tweets  about the country’s culture and people.
Bet, if the same "tweet" with pics had been sent by a local, it would have been "totally ignored" by the powers to be
Kobler frequently tweets about his love of the food and culture of Pakistan.Earlier, Kobler won the hearts of countrymen by mingling with locals, visiting ordinary food shops and traveling by train, shared his experience, inviting praises from Pakistanis.
Maybe, the Isloo authorities should offer him a full time job , once his tenure as Amb is over

Instead Of Cutting Military Spending And Spending More On Education, Pakistan "Begs" United Nations For More International Monies For Educating Paki Children !

Pakistan calls for increased funding globally for education: Education Minister at UN summit
The News International
Sept 25, 2018
Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood stressed on the significance of education in ensuring a more stable future for the countries, during his UN address on Monday. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader addressing an international conference planned on the brims of the General Assembly at the United Nations revealed that the key to moving forward is investing in the country’s educational sector while calling for an increased aid internationally for education in Pakistan.
