It is also possible that they couldn't scramble in time (total surprise) and they sent aircraft up in the air after the fact anticipating additional attacks. I am sure the IAF/MOD wouldn't hesitate to share the info if indeed they were able to scramble and were downed as there were probably other aircraft on the Indian side of the border waiting to pounce on them if they engaged.UlanBatori wrote:If PAF planes have been downed, whether IAF will report it. Too much H&D problem then, PAF will have to try retaliating. Maybe the "released payload" that fell is a Thundaar. They did claim that they scrambled, so I wonder how they avoided combat, with 12 Indian planes in the sortie. Then again, 50 miles at Mach 0.8 (~450mh) is like 7 minutes from LOC. Also, out of the 12 maybe a few were focused on the PAF, while the rest were tasked with the attack.
Wow, if this is true this was not a small strike by any stretch of imagination but will wait for official word, should any be forthcoming. https://t.co/bOFt7SXl43

I think the the pics looked like drop tank debris in a different location. We don't have visual confirmation of destruction yet.Rakesh wrote:https://twitter.com/manupubby/status/11 ... 8353205249 ---> One reason why Pakistan cannot acknowledge that the Indian 'payload' was an earth flattening, air dropped bomb. Pakistan does not admit that it shelters terrorists on its soil. Can certainly not claim that they have been killed in an Indian air strike.
They help by allowing greater speed via AB and you may have contingencies where you need to fly low to maintain surprise and avoid EW radars. You have more options as you could always jettison them if required.UlanBatori wrote:
Added later: Do you need drop tanks for such a short mission?
