NP-2 successfully completed her first ski jump take-off and arrested landing, in the same flight, from INS Hansa on 29 September 2019. The aircraft took off at 1621 hours and was trapped at 1631 hours. NP-1 successfully completed her first night arrested landing on 12 November 2019 at 1845 hours from INS Hansa.

• NP-1 successfully completed her first arrested landing on 13 September 2019 at INS Hansa naval air station in Goa. The aircraft was piloted by Commodore Jaideep Maolankar (Retd) with ground assistance from Captain Shivnath Dahiya (Retd), Landing Safety Officer and Commander JD Raturi (Retd), Test Director. can't wait for it...
jumping too fast..but is there any possibility of orders of NLCA Mk1s may be few in no.s for active deployments, I am sure it would give them good data and experience with western engines, airframe availability rates, maintenance practices.....apart from air defence.might free up some Migs ..tejas has demonstrated good availability in IAF exericses..so it would save some airframe hours...had it been china they would have ordered 5 sqdns by now...

Totally agree - China would have built 200 LCA MK1A for IAF and 50-100 for Navy!!

Navy choppers for HAL unlikely, jet order on the cards.

The defence ministry is likely to remove Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) from Rs 21,000-crore project to manufacture naval helicopters that had been reserved for the private sector. But the government-owned entity is set to get a mega order to produce 83 new Light Combat Aircraft in the coming weeks, taking its order book beyond Rs 1lakh crore.

The naval utility helicopter project, being processed under the strategic partnership model, is now set to go to the next stage, with the navy shortlisting four domestic companies that would be eligible to tie up with three shortlisted foreign vendors for a competition to manufacture 111 choppers in India.

As reported by ET, HAL had made a last-ditch effort to enter the competition by writing to the defence ministry last month. The Defence PSU’s bid had earlier been rejected as the tender documents had clearly mentioned that only private sector companies are eligible. Tata, Mahindra, Adani and Bharat Forge have been identified as companies that meet the financial and technical criteria while foreign vendors Airbus, Sikorsky and Kamov have
been shortlisted as potential technology partners. Once the project is given a go ahead — likely by next week — the Navy will go to the next stage of tendering that will include flight trials and an eventual evaluation of commercial bids.

However, HAL’s hands are set to be full for the next five years, with the government likely to sign a deal for 83 of the LCA Mk 1 fighter jets (target of production is at 16 jets per year)that is expected to be in the range of Rs 40,000 crore.

The signing of the deal could take place at the upcoming DefExpo in Lucknow early next month, though sources say that first payments for the contract are likely to be made in the next financial year.

The LCA order — which has been in the works for the past two years — will swell the order books of the government owned entity to beyond Rs 1 lakh crore. According to statistics shared in Parliament, the current order book is pegged at almost Rs 60,000 crore.

After completing extensive trials on the Shore Based Test Facility, DRDO, ADA developed LCA Navy did an arrested landing on INS Vikramaditya succesfully today 11 jan 2020 at 10:02 hours. Commodore Jaideep Maolankar did the maiden landing.

Congratulations to all the people that have contributed to this achievement! It is a truly historic achievement for Indian aviation. I sincerely hope that Cmde Mao goes on to become Naval Chief someday.

Someone monitor Surendra Ahuja's twitter to see if there is any reaction to this feat. With Navy Spokesperson clearly mentioning development of a twin engine Deck Based Fighter, Boeing India will not be happy.

Naval LCA lands on board INS Vikramaditya, scripts history

Indian Navy’s Light Combat Aircraft (NLCA) undertook its maiden carrier landing on the deck of
the mighty INS Vikramaditya successfully, scripting history.
Naval sources conrmed to Onmanorama that the NP-2 (naval prototype-2) from the NLCA ight-line made
an arrested-landing at 10:02 am on Saturday.
The ight was piloted by Cmde J A Maolankar, Chief Test Pilot with National Flight Test Centre (NFTC) in
Bengaluru.
The other ight crew members were Capt Shivnath Dahiya, Cdr J D Raturi and Cdr Ankur Jain.
As reported by Onmanorma earlier, the pilots have completed close to 30 arrested landings and more than 50
ski-jumps at SBTF ahead of approaching the aircraft carrier.
As this report went live, the crew was preparing NLCA for the next big task of a ski-jump take-off from INS
Vikramaditya.
“The aircraft is on the ship now. It is going through checks before doing maiden ski-jump take off from the
ship. Most likely, we are attempting to undertake the mission today itself. Have to be extra careful before
maiden ski-jump. Subsequently we can do much quicker take-offs,” an ofcial told Onmanorama

Hope the navy orders at least 8-16 Naval LCA, to add to the fleet along with the 44 Mig-29K.
