Why are kits still being imported from China?
1. Was ordered when Indian kit was no were in the picture.
2. Indian labs are having difficulties scaling up.
3. Our testing needs are going to explode and Indian supplies may not be sufficient.

Anyone close to the Indian company may be able to check with them (Mylab pune) on their order pipeline.

Mylab pune have tied up with some pharma companies for funding in order to scaling up , may be visibility will be by end of this month

As it turns out ICMR has invited bids for some 45 lakh tests, with this being a combined number for both RT-PCR combo kits & rapid antibody tests. Companies with only ICMR-NIV approval are also eligible, so I am expecting recently qualified domestic players to secure orders.
Guess the volume of kits needed will make imports viable depending on how many, how fast and at what cost the domestic companies are able to supply.

Germany got on the first list for HCQ because they seem to have been very prompt in their supplies of the initial test kits.

Trials of patients inside AEP were undertaken on board Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) and Dornier aircraft of Indian Navy at SNC and successfully completed on April 8.
It is made of Aluminum, Nitrile Rubber and Perspex. The highlight of the pod is that it weighs only 32 kg and has incurred a manufacturing cost of ₹50000/- which is only 0.1% of cost of an imported equivalent item (Rs 59Lakhs).

12 AEPs are planned for distribution across Southern, Western, Eastern and Andaman and Nicobar Naval commands. This will vastly increase the Indian Navy's abilities in its efforts towards aiding #Covind19 prevention across the nation.

Narrow and misguided thinking from people who are discriminating against doctors, other health workers and public services personnel. We should start booking cases against them and publicise it to discourage this needless headache.

PMs speech today, I was expecting him to deploy paramilitary to affected districts.

Maharashtra is no longer the state which it once was. The precious generation had people like pramod mahajan and bal thackeray. The current ones have gone mellow.

They should have raised an army of local volunteers by now. A group of 5 people in each building complex/housing society/chawl could have undertaken the job of taking orders and door to door delivery. None of this has happened and not likely to happen. Paramilitary is needed to shift the folks from urban slums to a manageable area. It is also needed in Delhi and Tamil nadu.

Cannot see light at the end of the tunnel.

India's Modi extends nationwide coronavirus lockdown until May 3
By Manveena Suri and Helen Regan, CNN, Tue April 14, 2020
India, population 1.3 billion, orders 'complete' coronavirus lockdown

New Delhi (CNN)Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended the country's nationwide lockdown until May 3 in a bid to contain the continued spread of the coronavirus, but said that some states which have avoided outbreaks may be allowed to resume "important activities."
Speaking in a televised address on Tuesday, Modi said it was vital that the virus is prevented from impacting parts of the country that remain unaffected. "My request to all my countrymen is that coronavirus will not be allowed to spread across new areas at any cost," said Modi, who wore a scarf covering his mouth and nose which he removed before speaking. "We have to be very careful about hotspots. We will have to keep a close watch on the places that are expected to become hotspots."
The 21-day lockdown for India's 1.3 billion people came into force at the end of the day on March 24 and was set to expire on Tuesday, April 14.
Since the lockdown was enforced, only essential services have been operational. Those include water, electricity, health services, fire services, grocery stores and municipal services.
All regular shops, commercial establishments, factories, workshops, offices, markets and places of worship have been closed and interstate buses and metros have been suspended. Construction activity was also halted during this period.
"Until May 3, all of us will have to remain in lockdown. During this time, we have to follow the same discipline as we have been doing," Modi said.
Following Modi's address, India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation tweeted that all domestic and international scheduled flights will remain suspended until end of day on May 3. Similarly, India's Ministry of Railways tweeted that all passenger train services will also remain suspended until then. Before the speech, several Indian states had ordered extended lockdowns until April 30, in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading. Those included Maharashtra, which has reported 2,334 cases and 160 deaths -- the worst outbreak in the country.

Indian government launches portal for stranded foreign nationals
1 Apr 2020 by Nisha Shroff

On March 31, 2020, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, launched Stranded in India – a web portal that helps reach out to foreign nationals who are stuck in India due to the lockdown.
The official release states, “Stranded in India is a portal to disseminate information regarding the services that can be availed by foreign tourists stuck far away from their homeland. The portal aims to act as a support network for foreign tourists stuck in various parts of the country.”
The portal, strandedinindia.com lists Covid-19 helpline numbers or call-centres that the foreign tourists reach out to for help; and covers comprehensive information around the Ministry of External Affairs control centre, along with contact numbers.
Additionally, it gives details on state-based/regional tourism support infrastructure. This unique portal also helps ones in need of further information and connect foreign tourists to concerned authorities.

in Pune at least there appears to be little coordinated effort to identify groups of people to get groceries or supplies for each society/area. Ideally people out of work could be even issued ID cards and paid to provide this service. Friends and relatives are saying its everyone for themselves most of the times. :(

How big a sample is this? The big danger with this disease seems to be the second week crash. Are they all past that time frame as well? And did they test positive, or are they going by symptoms to diagnose? TIA for the response.

I know of locals who have had the infection. All are well now. One of the recovered ones is almost 90 years old. None went to hospital and like you said, done in a week.

The pandemic is worse than reported or admitted. Britain does not count excess deaths in nursing homes as related to the Chinese virus. Nursing home deaths may account for half of total deaths. The Italians and Spaniards do count them.

This is mosquito fogging. Idiots on social media make fake news out anything and waste people's time.

Unable capture actual bearings of your AMRAAM saar, but I posted this with a sarcastic tone.

Also the immediate next post of mine was about asking questions what chemical being used & an old pic of same arrangement in Prayagraaj Kumbha Mela (2013) for mosquito fogging.

Also, I will give benefit of doubts to the original poster who posted the video on Twitter (not related to me, just a random twitter user. As such it may appear I'm defending her). Because the corrupt municipality walas will generally spend bare minimum for mosquito fogging and send only one vehicle for a street for normal day mosquito fogging. In this video we can see 3-4 one tonner truck doing it in a formation.

So municipality walas doing their job with whatever resources and knowledge they have (Remember the great Tukaram Omble and his clan going head on with pakis with their Cane Sticks & .303 ???) to "Go Corona Go" mission & the SDRE lady making and posting same video.

Hope you have seen a similar video of Chinese doing street sanitisation with Truck mounted air mister & thus the comparison.

All izz well, on their own sphere .

Must be a different virus.

Our local community hospitals are struggling. In one, several ER staff have died. Another one has 360 of 400 beds filled with COVID, four refrigerated tractor-trailers are parked outside, each capable of holding 50 bodies. Several of my colleagues are seriously ill, one just discharged after four weeks in the hospital, he is in his early 50s. The husband of an ex-employee dropped dead within a day, was being 'observed' at home.

A cousin of mine, also a physician, lives down south, admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia on day 18, still running fevers and on O2.

This is not a joke at all.

I agree.. I have seen chest X rays of a patient taken 5 hours apart .. In just five hours almost normal X ray was replaced by something totally horrible.. Pt later died of multiorgan failure.. Its almost like virus chooses who should live and who should die.. Once You are chosen by virus hardly anything can save you..

Gotta to say I am very skeptical of all the sudden spate of articles against HCQ now. Western press is completely bought and sold for.

Also, the NYT, WaPo, NPR jihad against India now makes ample sense. Its money.

Also, given expensive drugs are popping up, HCQ whether good or bad in initial stages is def. a threat IMHO to the patented anti-virals which are going for thousands of dollars.

Telegraph was getting a million $ a year - leaving aside all the below the table deals of their journos.

https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/ch ... da-machine

The scale and range of China’s current annual investment in foreign-propaganda activities is so great that it would be impossible to come up with an accurate total budget. International reports have cited figures ranging from US$7 billion to $10 billion, but these numbers include only the subsidies given to media targeted at non-Chinese foreigners. The Chinese government funds propaganda activities in a variety of ways. In 1992, China imposed a 3 percent “propaganda-industry tax” (xuanchuan shiye fei) on all profit-making enterprises in the public sphere. The funds are used to subsidize propaganda activities that are not commercially profitable. In addition to national-level propaganda efforts, each Chinese province has a budget for promoting itself to the outside world.

Primusji just returned from Emergency room.I have not seen anything like this it is not like war . It is war. My heartfelt appreciation for all the people who are working in the ER. My guess unfortunately many of these people are going to end up dead, I am no exception. There are probably close to 100 patients in the ER and almost all of them have the disease. There is no room to even walk in there. There is death everywhere. Sure it is just like flu, bloody morons.

India must do everything in it,s power to get out of it, anything. This has the potential to end all our dreams, no less.I hate to say this but I give the present govt in Delhi a F for their performance in handling the peacefuls. Right under their collective noses we have shaheenbag, delhi riots and now these Tablighi morons. India will be very lucky to get out of this , only the govt,s swift action and summer can prevent this from destroying everything.

Do not believe the number of deaths from the govt in the US, it is way higher than being shown as many are false negatives tests but actually are covid-19, nursing home deaths are many but may not be counted.

I will make a prediction from what I am seeing on the ground. The days of communist regime in China as it stands today are numbered .President Xi WILL not survive this and communist party in it,s present form will not survive. Change may come either from inside china in a bloody coup. If not there is HIGH likelihood of a war between United states and china over this.

I will say this if there is a war of which there is high likelihood India should join the USA to finish off the commies and free Tibet. There will not be another chance like this.

One other observation about this disease It is affecting the vascular system and clotting factors in a way I have not seen before in my life.It is my educated guess that the ARDS and deep vein thrombosis and arterial thrombosis and the severity seen is extremely unusual. patients are loosing their limbs from this. What is happening in the lung microcirculation is also being seen in other vascular beds like the leg. It is my opinion that the high mortality seen in this disease may be from the virus,s affects on the clotting system and micro and macro circulation overall, . With time we are going to figure this out scientifically.

Thank you Sureshji for all that you are doing and doubly thank you for keeping us on BRF posted. To confirm what you have just said:

In a new count released Tuesday, 3,778 more deaths were added to the rolls — driving up the previously recorded total of 6,589 by more than half. Now, the city records 10,367 deaths related to the virus.
Previously, the city had not counted people who died at home without getting tested for the coronavirus, or who died in nursing homes or at hospitals, but did not have a confirmed positive test result. Mayor Bill de Blasio admitted last week that the true number of deaths was far higher than the official tally, and said the city would start including presumed coronavirus cases in its data.

I know of locals who have had the infection. All are well now. One of the recovered ones is almost 90 years old. None went to hospital and like you said, done in a week.

So why is the story vastly different in US than in UK? Based on what Suresh ji said the picture in US hospitals is very very grim.

How are Indians in NY, CA, NJ, UK and Canada doing in comparision to other ethnicities? There are significant number of Indians in those places.

So why is the story vastly different in US than in UK? Based on what Suresh ji said the picture in US hospitals is very very grim.

Selection bias.

Reports of migrant workers in Bandra station was due to them thinking lockdown is lifted and they can go home. Announcement of extending lockdown being announced only 1 day before end of lockdown should have been planned better.

News did not percolate and created this massive crowd. Will very likely result in cases jumping up in Mumbai. More and more reports are coming that states are not reporting the truth and fudging numbers to look good in short term.

MH Chief minister had announced lockdown till 31st, two days before.

And migrants seems to want to leave without any bags.

Moreover if the lockdown was to be lifted, why would they want to go back home? Wouldn't they want to go back to work?

Given what Primus and Suresh is saying, the death count in China should be at least in hundreds of thousands, if not in millions. Given that Wuhan mayor said millions left the city before lockdown was imposed, all of them travelling all over China should have resulted in millions of infected folks and lot more death than China reported. It's hard to believe US & Europe have more deaths than China

@OFB_India units in UP & Tamil Nadu get NABL nod to test fabric for manufacturing of coveralls in fight against COVID-19. With this, another test facility has been created in South India and the first in North India.

Unless a person believes in miracles, this is the truth and probably the same for Pakistan where they would not know whether 1 person has corna virus or 200 million have it.
