what was the BJP doing during the passage of the RTE act and how did that get passed without nationwide protests

or, did they not realize the truly evil nature of the law, the debilitating repercussions and annihilative effects on the majority or was the constitutional subjugation of Hinduism acceptable to them

there was an open collusion between two of the pillars of democracy and there was an unelected, and unconstitutional body called the NAC which was actually a consortium of BIF representatives who forcefully clambered onto the bridge and grabbed hold of the wheel of the ship of state, namely India.

why did the BJP not protest like these guys are doing now or or were there too many lootyen's libtards in the BJP then.

Why is government focusing so much on benefits of 3 new farm bills? Instead, they should explain what was wrong in the existing system, which this bills aims to fix. Today, many common man thinks the existing system was fair and clean, and this government has disrupted it. Destroy those myths.

Aha, removal of the MSP will have major consequences.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blo ... vet-glove/

India’s average farm holding is only one hectare, which is why prosperity requires farmers to move out of farming into industry and services. But in Punjab one hectare is worth Rs 1.25-2.5 crore! They may not look it, but the farm agitators surrounding Delhi are lakhpatis in annual subsidies and crorepatis in assets.

Always follow the money- sanjaykumar, 2020 :)

Child birth is safer, children's health is worse: Govt report

Puzzled as to why health indicators are worsening if there is plenty of food available. Wonder if using Aadhar and direct benefits transfer to improve efficiency of benefits has been too successful.

This reminds me of the story of the analysis of bullet holes in allied bombers returning from a Germany in WW2:
https://medium.com/@penguinpress/an-exc ... 4e708cfc3d

This is a case of survivorship driven bias. IMR/CMR is down significantly but child malnutrition is up. That is because kids who would have died are now clinging on. Whereas previously they had to be healthier in order to make it past 1 and 5, they’re now able to survive lethal diseases - they get better post natal care and immunizations that protect them.

But this does not mean the quality of food has improved - it means a lower baseline can still survive. The improvements going forward need to focus on maternal and child nutrition since there’s definitely improvement in survivability.

I was going through some of the interviews of an agricultural economist by name Vijay Sardana ( refer his interviews in his twitter feed to CNNNews18 on the hypocrisy of the new agricultural laws passed in Punjab & Chattisgarh as a counter to NDA's farming & agricultural reforms). He clearly indicates that Punjab state govt has now made it mandatory to buy Wheat & Rice from its farmers only at the MSP price irrespective of the quality of the produce (i.e moisture in farm produce or the dirt & foreign particles in the same). This he believes is a stupid move and that when it comes to the next farm products purchase time in this state (April 2021 is it ?) - the farmers will struggle to sell their produce because of the new law having been brought by the Punjab government. It seems Haryana govt has not yet brought any similar law because BJP is ruling the state in a coalition with a regional party.

We are now starting to see the manifestation of 'new farm & agricultural reforms' supporting counter protests among other sections of farmers & they are against the protest drama being enacted by the mainly trader+farmer/arhathiya system entity combo with their base in Punjab & Haryana. These counter protesters are also meeting the government ministers and providing their support for the newly brought in farm laws. I feel this counter protest movement will start increasing from now on. Basically in the near future - it will become very clear for whole of the country that the main aim of the initial protest is to roll back the newly brought in Farm laws.

I don't know what makes these Punjabi & Haryanvi arhathiya system entities to still be bull headed in their approach as their lack of credibility and their greed for a continuing tax payer subsidized based earnings for the very low value contribution they make to the farming sector in their respective states. This might well make large portions of the country (but for India haters & BJP hating Indians as well as the protesting 'farmers' from Punjab & Haryana) get fed up with the antics of these Punjab+Haryana farmers and start nursing grudges against these folks .... irrespective of them having been annadata in the past or men known for their bravery. As farmers in other regions get to know the main reason I guess the FCI would be forced to now buy wheat & rice at MSP in a more equally fashion from other states too and for the sake of their less richer farmers in other regions of the state - the purchases from APMCs n Punjab & Haryana may well get reduced. This would be a double whammy for the protesting farmers if they continue to unreasonably stick to their stand.

It is the protestors who must understand that they will soon be standing naked in front of the rest of the country if they persist with their protetst to roll back the new laws. Either the Punjab govt or Farmer Unions representing primarily the arhathiya system should seek from central govt a time bound financial + agricultural technology support - to enable the transition from the current heavy Wheat + Rice growing farming pattern to a more diversified farm produce type agricultural. system.

Not sure the reputation of this channel, but I had never heard anyone explain in such simple terms and easily connect the dauts while effectively making the point -- numbers in parliament, progression of agri laws (relevant to jamidari, APMC etc.) and new farming laws, concerns/protests etc.

I had an occasion to study the methodology for computation of global 'Hunger Index'. The impression I got was measurements of outcomes was debatable at best and dubious at worst. Equally, it would be a folly to make cross country comparisons without normalising for sampling and measurement efficiency differences across countries and across times. Regarding the above study based on household surveys I would advise members to view it with caution. How does the survey for instance define stunting? Are measures unique to children of West Bengal as opposed to say, Punjab? The bottom line is mortality is certain. Everything else is open to challenge.

There are approx 10 lakh farmers in punjab.

75,000 from punjab have turned up for protests in dilli that is only 0.08 % of the total, and only a privileged handful of these are the guys are swanning around, eating pizza, badam/dry fruits, getting foot massages and gymming.

the other 99% are back home and don't seem to be interested in the agitation

this is the best time to bring in taxation for rich farmers. Just bite the bullet and do it in this coming budget and the govt's revenues will rise dramatically.

why should the taxpaying middle class foot the bill for these mollycoddled guys

like someone said: if the farmers don't give us food, we can always order from swiggy.

that annadata construct should take a back seat in 2020 and the nostalgia of the earlier days of communista mismanagement should be seen for what it was; inefficiency and incompetence of the leaders of the day.
APMC was put in place 150 years ago by the British. It forced Indian farmers to produce raw cotton for Manchester mills which sold textiles to Indians at extortionate prices. This is the colonial system “intellectuals” backing farmers want perpetuate.

Thousands of iPhones looted, violence cost us Rs 440 crore: Wistron

Thousands of iPhones looted, violence cost us Rs 440 crore: Wistron

Sandeep Moudgal
Dec 14, 2020,

BENGALURU: Saturday’s violence at Wistron’s Kolar plant, where it assembles iPhones, has caused losses amounting to an estimated Rs 437 crore, the company stated in its complaint to the police and the labour department, reports Sandeep Moudgal.

The losses are primarily due to the theft of thousands of iPhones, allegedly looted from the unit during the violence, and damage caused to Wistron’s assembly line and factory equipment, the complaint said. Condemning the two-hour violence, Karnataka labour minister Shivaram Hebbar said the damages caused to the company were unacceptable.

Apple probing if Wistron facility in India flouted supplier rules:Report

According to the government, the dispute between Wistron and the contract labourers has been going on for three months. Hebbar said Wistron had contracted six subsidiary companies to hire 8,900 people for its Kolar unit.

“Besides, the company had 1,200 permanent employees,” he added. Industries minister Jagadish Shettar said the violence was, perhaps, fueled by miscommunication between Wistron, the contractors and the employees.

“What we hear is that the company had made payments to the labour contractors, who delayed payments to the employees. This is being verified,” he said. Hebbar said the labour department has issued notices to Wistron, asking the firm to pay the dues in three days.

1. Are the non payments to the contract labourers genuine or the labour contractors not paying them up after the company has paid them??
2.The labour unions involved are they CPI linked etc
The reason I am a bit apprehensive and worried is because this too pat!! happening at the right time ( when companies want to relocate to India from China) meaning Chini has any hand in this
All deliberately set up to show India is not safe contract labour hiring especially when the pre-Christmas/New Year demands are at the peak

Lately, AMC has gone on many unexplainable name change sprees. One has to wonder what they are up to. AMC could have resorted to choosing names that matter to the Hindu civilization but instead they are not. May be they should start by thinking about Karnavati. Not sure who within BJP is sending signals to whom.
AMC gives name to an underbridge which was already named about decade ago
https://www.deshgujarat.com/2020/12/14/ ... ecade-ago/
...
Or is it that the AMC wants to replace the name of Bhagini Nivedita with Dhirubhai Shah even when earlier name was given under the tenure of then Chief Minister Narendra Modi and plaque was unveiled in his presence by senior BJP leader LK Advani?

(Opinion part) This lapse indicates a lot about the decision makers sitting in the elected body of AMC. This also indicates that rulers themselves forget the names given by them to scores of under bridges just a few years back. Dhirubhai Shah was not a big shot and there’s hardly any contribution for which an under bridge in the city should be named after him. He was an average MLA from Rapar in Kutch. If BJP ruled body thought to give him recognition because he was Jain and Parimal Garden area is Jain populated then that’s a case of appeasement. The names given by rulers anyway hardly matter, as people continue to identify the bridges by their popular names. So whatever is the name on the plaque, Parimal under bridge remains Parimal under bridge.

Rsatchi ji,

just wait for a bit and things may become clear

there are local industry bodies that are very upset, labor unions are presently flying under the radar but they have had a big hand in the instigation of the "work force", the govt has one narrative and the opposition which is congi + 2 minority dominated have their own pappu agenda to sabotage the BJP govt in the state.

the state CM is mired in a succession battle with many claimants to the throne and the govt has taken it's eye off the ball and got diverted in the power play.

someone has meticulously planned it out and struck at the right moment just like the precisely planned riots that had devastated bangalore city a few months ago.

I think that it plays into the farmer's agitation in dilli and gives the impression to investors of a very poorly governed country.

the hawala funding could only have come from one place and it reeks of noodles and fried rice.

The target just happens to be a company that moved into India

In Karnataka most if not all labor unions are controlled by Congress or CPI. Prima facia there does not appear to be a labor union in the Wistron plant, i have read several versions of what led to the violence but none have it as labor union led. There was news that the workers were unhappy with reduction of pay compared to what was promised at the time of signing but later stories indicate the issue was mostly with contract workers being paid on time but the full time employees were not paid. The third version is workers were unhappy the way their overtime and extra shifts were calculated and the pay did not accurately reflect the OT. Once the violence broke out it is quite possible that labor unions, local goons , political workers everyone made it a free for all.

The Karnataka politicians should have known by now to set up SEZs in the nothern part of Karnataka where development has not kept up with rest of the state. The central part of the state including greater Bangalore region, Mysore, Kolar, Tumkur regions are known for labor issues and also labor dissatisfaction but the politicians keep inviting companies to setup shops in this overcrowded region because they own large swathes of lands.

Wistron violence makes a really sorry image of India as industrial hub. The story that labourers stole iPhones is pathetic and speaks volume of the tough times for anyone dare setup factories in India. Nokia, Sterlite and now Wistron all set a very bad pattern of violence and labour unrest that must be curbed at the earliest to prevent further escalation.

Fun facts:
* there were protests over unpaid dues at the Nokia Sriperumbudur plant as well. Pre-twitter/kitab-e-chehra era so it seems like it didn't happen.
* the same Nokia plant progressively added more shifts until there were 3 full shifts, and was at one time probably the most productive Nokia plant worldwide.

It's true that political opposition might be interested in seeing the PLI scheme fail. This scheme has been very popular. It was notified in July:
https://www.meity.gov.in/esdm/pli
In August, FDI inflows rose to $17.5 billion just for a single month - by a long distance the most ever received in one month (Table C, item 5):
https://dipp.gov.in/sites/default/files ... ber_20.pdf
Further, electronics and hardware sector received $17.5 billion FDI for the first 6 months of this fiscal year, more than 2x what that sector receives in a full year.

Naturally, these are big numbers. Please avoid handwringing about the Wistron incident. Focus on posting about who's behind it, if there are organized motives.

It is troubling if that is the case. Investors look for certainty but not certainty of labor problems. If it happened to Nokia and now to Wistron then we are doing something wrong when it comes to wage arbitration and enforcement of labor department laws. Yes, the Q2 FDI was higher but we don't know yet if its the rebound business from China because of the ongoing pandemic or something that can be sustained in the long run. We need to assure investors that India is a attractive destination when it comes to labor discipline, value add, infrastructure and return on investment. When workers set factory on fire and loot products, and such news makes it to media then it results in poor optics and deters future investments.

Karnataka is also facing another crisis with road transportation workers who went on a flash strike crippling commuters and passengers across the state. Their demands were several but primarily seeking similar benefits as other state government employees, 30 lakh Rs compensation for covid deaths (which btw the government has not provided to even healthcare workers until now), higher wages (when passenger count has plummeted due to the pandemic) and intra-department transfers. Karnataka which is already struggling with depleted coffers has agreed to all except one demand bringing the strike to an end late this evening. The irony is one of the leaders of the state transport workers agitation has got nothing to do with transport department but is a leader of a Congress backed farmers union !

Wistron incident should really be take to the internal security thread. From the pattern of violence it likely there are elements of the same BiF cabals who destroyed Sterlite and Nokia are behind this too. It would take a few dozen of these professional instigators to gut the entire factory. We've seen effectiveness of these in Shaeenbag 1 and 2.

Wage and labor related issues are fairly common in these mass manufacturing entities. It also happens quite often in China and Vietnam too; they just have a political system capable of preventing the news from being broadcast by their mainstream media, though it doesn't prevent the odd Weibo video from appearing.

It matters here that rule of law be clearly imposed, both upon the rioters and Wistron. Apple are currently actively investigating Wistron to establish whether the contract manufacturer broke wage laws. Apple does not have an interest in seeing the production disrupted, and in that regard their own interest is aligned with GoI's.

Historically, kolar has been a hub of out of state workers, mainly from TN who came in for the work in the gold mines many decades ago and settled there. The minorities have long held sway here and have been constantly appeased over the decades.

This was only one place where CPI(M)/CPI used to win ONE seat. In last election they lost here too, as their usual candidate (a person who runs lots of bars & restaurants) jumped ship to JD(S). Wistron seems to be clue less on the employee resentment. Generally that is very rare to happen as they will have their own 'sympathisers' in the work force, who can report canteen gossips, and general information. So it could be some background instigations which triggered the rioting. The work force also seems to be young boys who are easier to rile up.
