* Uses 16 element active array T/R unit
* Air-cooled system
* Proto Manufactured
* Soon to begin testing with the IAF
AATRU can change the angular direction of its radiation pattern electronically by imposing a suitable phase shift among the radiating elements using phase shifter in each T/R Module.

Designed to protect aircraft from SAMs and AAMs. The spectral info of two colours is used to discriminate efficiently between sunlight reflections, BG radiation and radiation from missiles.

So the DCMAWS is pod based (and not pylon based). Assuming would require two outer wing stations (one on either side) to provide a decent coverage. Won’t be full 360 degrees though.
Setup looks to be: ASPJs on the wing tips and DCMAWS on the outermost wing pylons.

HAL is now in the process of ramping its capacity to overhaul the SU-30MKIs from 15 aircraft per year to 25.
...
A major upgrade programme for the entire fleet is under negotiation with Russia to give the aircraft better radar, avionics and weapons among others.

Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
The ejector launcher for the Astra is still nowhere in sight. So it is good that it is cleared for the outer pylon as well. The MKI will still be restricted to a maximum of 6 Astras for now which will be practically reduced to 4 since the outer pylons will probably carry R-73's and the wingtip pylons used for the SAP-518's.
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
https://twitter.com/TheWolfpackIN/statu ... 29952?s=20 ---> Contrary to some reports, Indian Su-30MKIs currently do not rely on any Israeli jammers. SAP-518 & SAP-14 are the standard EW pods of IAF MKI fleet. The threat library of both have been updated extensively with ESM data gathered by IAF. Yes, in past El-8222 was used but now very rare.
https://twitter.com/TheWolfpackIN/statu ... 47233?s=20 ---> SAP-518 is an extensive upgrade pf Sorbtsiya-S with advanced digital electronics, new architecture, better processor & DRFM. It has a wideband phased array & a steerable main lobe to maximize the Jam/Signal ratio at the threat emitter.
https://twitter.com/TheWolfpackIN/statu ... 58145?s=20 ---> SAP-518 & SAP-14 combination will cover pretty much all major threat emitters:
SAP-14 for jamming all ground surveillance radars & AWACS in bands:
* L-band, 1-2 GHz
* S-band, 2-4 GHz
SAP-518 for the FCS radars of fighters & SAMs:
* C-band, 4-8GHz
* X-band, 8-12GHz FCS band
* Ku-band, 12-18GHz missile seeker band

Interesting mki video. But I can't place the tanker at 2.5 mark. Definitely not the il78. didn't have any markings that I could see either. Very strange. Was the video taken during an exercise? Or is this part of India's lemoa deal?
Added later: it's USN. probly part of malabar ex.

So my suspicions when 10k crores for 12 Su 30 were correct, it is indeed a super Sukhoi proposal.

At $115M/each. Better dump them and buy 3 more squadrons of the Tejas MK1A for the same money.Aditya_V wrote:So my suspicions when 10k crores for 12 Su 30 were correct, it is indeed a super Sukhoi proposal.
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
Russians have become very greedy. They did not learn a lesson when they quoted an insane amount to modify the SU30 MKI to carry the Brahmos. IIRC, we did it on our own at less then 20% of the amount quoted.
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
The DAC cleared HAL quote under "Make in India", we do not know the Russian Cost VS Indian Add ons, I do not think the whole INR 10K crore was Sukhoi quote.
At USD 115 million with Indian AESA, Indian Jammer, SDR etc it will be worth it. the Russians know this and want maximum slice of SU-30 upgrade pie, we want the reverse. Lets see where the negotiations end up.

Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
If HAL wants to use these as prototypes for the Super Sukhoi upgrade then it needs to be done. We have 13 squadrons of MKI's, all of which are going to serve for a long time to come and really need that upgrade. Besides, HAL's proposal includes primarily indigenous components in the upgrade. If we can include a scaled up Uttam in it instead of a new Russian radar, that is icing on the cake.Mort Walker wrote:At $115M/each. Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
I also think russians are probaby not sticky on the additional 12 Sukhoi - they are looking to do maximum upgrade stuff. But we'd be way better off upgrading MKI by ourselves, even if we do not get additional 12 MKI.
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
Remember, we are producing Su-30MKI from raw material stage! The materials are SO raw, that we need permission from Russia to build them.
The tripe that MoD and HAL will conjure in their annual reports is astounding!
The tripe that MoD and HAL will conjure in their annual reports is astounding!
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
Well the raw material stage means we process some of the raw material into parts and build the aircraft. Per contract, a lot of the raw material comes from Russia. On the plus side, that restriction is lifted for spares etc. So we can do alloy replacement and also process replacement. And after Parrikars intervention, a lot of the remaining parts that were only being made in Russia were to be indigenized in India with MSME/pvt sector involvement. This bodes well for long term Flanker sustainment.
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
If we make parts from RAW materials from Russia - is that counted towards indian content? that will be bogus...
Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014
How so? Think for a while. We design and develop a lot of stuff that is based off of commercial items sourced from worldwide manufacturers. That is indigenous. It all depends on how far or up the value chain you wish to define indigenization at. Its best to see where the most value is added by cost, localize that, then move to what's denied.

We can criticize as much as we like but the fact that the Su 30 MKI is tha platform on which Astra, Brahmos and many new weapons are tested and inducted shows to me we have far more IP in this than the M 2000 or the Mig 29, while it not an Indian design like Tejas, this is a foreign platform where we have more access than even the Jaguar. We probably have learnt a lot from the LCA Tejas and Su 30.MKI programs which is quite evident. It is a potent platform and is feared by the PAF.Rakesh wrote:Remember, we are producing Su-30MKI from raw material stage! The materials are SO raw, that we need permission from Russia to build them.
