it might be a routine transfer, and media sensationalism is unwarranted. But if he is being sent to Shillong, how does that help with squadron raising in Hasimara? I am not well versed in the command structure here, Unless Shillong is is some kind of HQ for officers posted in eastern sector.

This is from the French Air Force and French Navy that operate the Rafale C/B/M.

Re: VayuSena Rafale: News and Discussions - 17 Oct 2016
I do not believe the IAF uses the TALIOS laser designation pod.
ASMP-A is France's strategic nuclear weapon and represents the air component of France's nuclear strike force. To be used only by France.
The AGCAS is interesting. Found on the F-16 Block 70 and F-21. Is marketed as one of the features by LM in the present MRFA contest. If present on French F3R Rafales, then I am sure it will be found on Egyptian, Qatari and Indian Rafales.

10 Rafales to join IAF in one month
In a major boost for the Indian Air Force's firepower, at least 10 new Rafale fighter aircraft would be joining its fighter fleet leading to the formation of the second squadron of the planes.

News of additional order is only Twitter speculation...
Though I hope they order 2 more squadrons and close the MRFA circus...
They may not go for odd number squadrons for new types of jets...
So, in case the speculations about new order are true, it will be 2 squadrons only... They may not go for 4 new squadrons coz. that will make the order very big and costly...
Most probably, it will be 36 + additional jets for spares & TACDE...
44 or 48 jets will be ideal IMO... That would take the total Rafale strength to 80 or 84 with 20-21 jets per squadron...

I have a personal fan theory that IAF will buy all new jets in even no. of squadrons only... And plan all home bases with 2 squadrons of same type in one base to optimize logistics...VinodTK wrote:I hope it is 54 more Rafales makes it 90; which would be equal to 5 squadrons
