Too early for these surveys but

https://www.financialexpress.com/india- ... r/2323506/

Worryingly the AAP is set to be the largest party in Punjab. I suppose this was to be expected with Kejri kowtowing to any and all demands of the Khalistanis and promising massive sops…

It will be interesting to see what happens to Sidhu if above does come to pass. I am surprised about Goa though…

This is the result of secular political setup in India. State literally robbing off Hindu temples. In this process of turning over the wealth, close to 90% of it will be swindled away by politicians.

something has happened for the TN govt to issue such an order.

many big shots from all the dravidian parties are actively involved in the plunder and smuggling of temple properties, especially religious idols that are centuries old and heritage jewelry that are in great demand by personal collectors abroad

Gold Donations Made To Temples, Except Those Needed For Worship, Should Be Deposited In Banks: Tamil Nadu Govt Order

via swarajyamag

The Tamil Nadu government has ordered that gold that has been donated, apart from those used during rituals, shall be deposited to bank and the interest earned be utilised for development initiatives of shrines, reports Financial Express.

The development was announced by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P K Sekar Babu on Saturday in the state assembly.

He stated that as many as 10,000 personnel would be recruited to provide security for temples across the state.

“As many as 10,000 personnel would be recruited to provide security for temples and donations of gold, barring those needed for worship, shall be deposited in banks and the interest earned utilised for development initiatives of shrines," Babu said.

He also stated that a monthly incentive of Rs 1,000 would be provided to priests serving in 12,959 temples covered under a scheme that ensures pooja for a single time in a day and an allocation of Rs 13 crore shall be made.

The annoucement comes against the backdrop of ancient idols and precious items owned by temples getting stolen in the past. Multiple idols were smuggled out of the country from various temples, and several of them have been brought back in recent years.

He stated that barring those needed for worship, all other types of gold received as donation over the past 10 years would be melted in the Mumbai based Central government Mint. These bars would then be deposited in in banks and the interest earned would be used for “Tiruppani” (development initiatives) purposes.

Its a pity that we celebrate this guys birthday as teachers day. He was a big whore monger and a womanizer. Over that he was an ultra left commie.
I even read that he would try to preach communism to soviets when he was the ambassador to USSR. .
I think the only reason he got in to those positions is because he was friends with nehru.

This is incorrect information. Radhakrishnan held the chair of Spaulding professor of Comparitive Religion at Oxford University from 1936 to 1952 and he was affiliated to All Souls College at Oxford. Prior to this in the late 1920s he was in the UK for a lecture tour for a year and delivered the Hibbert Lectures and also a set of 6 lectures at Manchester university.

Seems like its become a fashion to vilify any historical figure based on scant research and some odd media report. Indian society went through complicated times during the decades before and after independence. Its so easy for us to judge anyone from the position of relative comfort and stability we today enjoy. We seem to want those figures to be perfect according to today's expectations.

We want them to fit into the image of a glorious past that we believe we deserve to have given our recent prosperity, and anyone who even marginally falls short is quickly torn down. This quick contempt and black-smearing is no better than the whitewashing commie-lefty-lberals are accused of.

As we decolonise our mindsets and draw up revised portraits of them, we will see that many, perhaps most Indian personalities of 20th century are mix of good and bad. We need to be ready to accept and recognise that despite their failings, their qualities still carried them forward and a non-insignificant part of what we are today is owed to them. And defend them where needed against the world which (by the way does not jump to vilify its own personalities so easily) will continue to be condescending and belittling to India for some foreseeable future.

In Hindi, I'd say "Acchey they ya burey they, woh hamarey apney they"

The death day of his father YSR had large gatherings recently that posed no problems, only Ganesh celebrations are a problem.

Stalin the CM of TN issued a prohibitory order thru Chennai Police. Large crowding was allowed for some Church event in Velankanni Temple Church. But no to GC. The suffocating of Hindus (only) is slowly but surely generating resentment. Here is a kicker, Stalin was generous enough to "permit" GC celebrations at home. Makes you think, this closet Christian will mandate that all Hindus must obtain a permit before any Puja at home.

It started slowly, and many centuries ago

Initially unnoticed by the majority, who later turned their eyes away, hoping that they would be the last to be eaten.

After all these years, it's still one-way traffic and many in the "majority", simply don't seem to get it

Hindu history in short.

RSS cannot simply washoff its responsibility from this pure yellow journalism article. Big complex IT projects routinely run into trouble. A majority of such cases are due to incomplete or incoherent specifications that the consulting company could not or did not challenge enough before designing and developing the s/w. This problem exists everywhere in India and abroad and is also acute with Govt clients whose careers are not as much impacted by the success or failure of the project as compared to pvt sector. Technology implementation errors can be eventually fixed but design and specification problems can really
kill a project.

While the root causes of the current tax portal glitches are not public knowledge, Infosys COO UB Pravin, a long time veteran is personally involved and knowing him personally for years, there can be no room for allegations of deliberate mismanagement or neglect.

Infosys is not some baccha tuccha company, its a fantastic well run global corporation that has made India proud for decades and will continue to do so. The author is plainly gassing out of his musharraf with zero facts and even less understanding. Sad for a magazine that was once edited by ABV.

If anything this hit piece self goal only reveals the idelogical and intellectual decline of RSS leadership. Instead of being a moral beacon to the BJP Govt to help build an Indic vision for Bharat and being a guiding light for policy making based on dharmic principles, RSS leadership is now making statements that would have made Savarkar and Hedgewar cringe and indulging in appeasement tactics that defy comprehension.

The only positive outcome of this dumbo article could be that it may (and should) lead to serious questioning of RSS' current leadership itself.

Cyranoji - It is hard to pinpoint exact causes of portal slowdown. Please note that Infosys has been in decline for a while ( not to say it is a small company ) . But there has been smoke for a while :

Infosys founders are rich beyond imagination of the common man. They use their retirement time to manage their wealth and support whatever charitable causes they want to.

That they support -some- organisations that are not on your or my side of the preferred political spectrum doesnt equate them to desh drohis.

For ex: from the links you posted, CFR board is said to be composed of :
Tarun Das of the CII; N.R. Narayanamurthy, ex-CEO, Infosys; Jamsheyd N. Godrej, managing director, Godrej; Jamshed J. Irani, director, Tata Sons; and Gautam Thapar, CEO, Avantha Group

So if tomorrow any PSU or defense equipment supplied by Godrej or Tata group fails, they must be accused of desh droh?

Philanthropic and charitable organisations are indeed a complex web of funding. We may not like that the drivel wire, Scroll etc publish. But to be "left" leaning is not a crime. If the Govt itself is not able to (and cannot) shut them down for what we see as antinational writings then why blame others?

Rajiv Malhotra has his views. Did he ever write to or meet NRN? What was his response?

NRN, Nilekani etc are billionaires who dont need ego boosts. They are at least as patriotic as any common Indian. They are excellent businessmen who see very long term, make lots of money legally, pay taxes faithfully and abide by the Law. They havent created offshore holdings in tax havens or shifted HQ to Ireland like their competitors to increase dividends. They do place a high value on ethics. They dislike controversy, dont speak unnecessarily and when they do, in measured words.

If any of you believe NRN's charity is funding the wrong or unworthy causes, make a case and write to him. Ask for a meeting and present your case. You will get a fair hearing, l'm sure of that.

But throwing mud on one of india's finest companies because you dont like their founder's supposed leanings is not a great demonstration of desh bhakti IMO.

Even RSS has distanced itself from the editorial. The story has no legs and is extremely poorly written. No real research, connecting dots from different pages and books.

Only legs it will have would be ones provided by outrage from well meaning citizens like you.

Having said so I would be much more concerned about what's going on between TATA son's and Piyush Goyal. We have seen a public comment by the minister on a public forum singling the company. We don't have any context to the comment.

And this whole matter is a blatant conflation of Infosys Ltd. the company and its founders who are private citizen, they can do whatever they want with their money, as long as its legal. The company Infosys Ltd. has no business to and does not fund media houses. All the company's charitable CSR work is exclusively done through Infosys Foundation which publishes its reports regularly and is transparent about its activities. The only other thing I'm aware of is the Infosys Prize.

For a very long time Infosys has stayed out of Govt business in India and abroad due to the L1 process, possibility of getting mired in bribery accusations, undue pressure and political fallout when Govts change, or favours (like campaign contributions, jobs to near & dear) are sought and denied, or when projects go bad for whatever reason. Many Indian corporates who dealt with corrupt Govts have imbibed the same characteristics themselves and are not easy to do business with compared to the corporates of Europe or even better US. The company hates bad press and would let go of even lucrative business and prefers to do 98%-99% of its business outside. Of course export hourly billing rates are higher and make it vastly more profitable. But even in these markets, Govt business comes very last.

Some xyz's bile regurgitation on Reddit makes no case. Unless the actual reasons for the IT portal's problems are made public by the Govt and/or Infosys, we are just speculating who is to blame. As any IT professional here knows, takes two hands to clap.

By no means designing and implementing an IT portal for the size, volume and through put of India is a routine task. The complexity of our laws, regulations, clauses, sub clauses and sub sub clauses, alenias, foot notes is not easy. Govt floated RFP, Infosys responded, Govt selected it proposal, agreed on price and entered into a services contract. Both parties knew what knowns and unknowns they were getting into. Infosys ex board members Mohandas Pai and former CFO Balakrishnan have said if there is a failing on their part, Infosys should fix the problems. Their speaking itself is a message. They are not running away. But they don't run the company day to day, the CEO & COO do and they are on the task.

With this stupid controversy, I see Indian Tier 1 companies like Infosys getting w(e)ary of big govt contracts, letting Tier2/Tier3 or non-Indian companies fight it out. Is it ultimately good for the country? Probably not. Dealing with an IBM or Accenture when things go bad is a different kettle of fish altogether, they won't get smeared and still try to fix the problem, they'll be a lot more tempted to simply drop the ball and bring lawyers in, like Carin has done.

Agree Pratyush, Infosys or any company in its place is not the issue here. If it were Wipro, such writers could have said Muslim run company, if it were TCS, Parsee or South Indian CEO's neglect of North Indian party's Govt agenda. It takes little intelligence to connect the dots between one's a$$ and mouth to spout cr@p.

Its RSS directly and the BJP indirectly are the ones attracting closer scrutiny. If some genius came up with this idea to put pressure to help FM NS deliver, it has surely backfired on both. If thats not the case, then as I said, it merely reveals the ideological and intellectual decline of the current RSS leadership.

I saw little detail in the press as to Piyush Goyal's comments re: Tata Group and other Indian business wrt E-commerce, except that the new rules may bar Tata's joint venture partners like Starbucks from selling goods on Tata's shopping websites. This needs a deeper analysis to understand whats going on. The Govt may be acting cautiously keeping in mind the interests of small businesses which cant compete with e-commerce. If thats the case, its actually good per se, and also because it goes against the Ambani-Adani narrative being peddled by the opposition parties. Now they are suddenly saying this Govt is anti-business! LoL !!

NM was a rabid communist in youth. Then on a trip to Bulgaria, he was roughed up by the communist police (spent three days in Jail without food) and came to his senses.
In 1974, Narayana Murthy was put in an 8x8-foot cell without food for three days in Bulgaria by authorities who believed he had been criticising the country's communist government. Murthy, who turned 70 on Saturday, admitted in a speech that incident transformed him from "a confused Leftist into a...compassionate capitalist", and led to the eventual founding of Infosys in 1981.
https://www.timesnownews.com/business-e ... ria/634102

There was a controversy some years back where NM had barred the playing of national anthem at Infosys events (NM gave the argument that his American visitors would feel uncomfortable). There were also some nasty comments from him about North Indians (one of the infosys founders was a North Indian who exited very early).

NM was also in controversy recently about his Cloudtail venture with Amazon (accused of violating the law).
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/bus ... 197875.cms

Then his foundation has been funding that rabid Hindu hater Sheldon Pollock and his biased research into Sanskrit -- apparently Pollock has been put in charge by Murthy's foundation of translating Indian scriptures from Sanskrit to English!! (The same Pollock who has been claiming sanskrit to be a language devised by Brahmins to oppress the masses.)

NM does come across as a man willing to make many compromises with Americans in return for market access, and is not above shady deals. I don't trust him fully. If there are instructions from americans, I think he will be willing to do anything.

India's commerce minister faced heat on social media on Saturday for his remarks that many big domestic businesses had overlooked national interests and that $106 billion Tata Group's objections to proposed policy changes for e-commerce had upset him.

At an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Thursday, Minister Piyush Goyal criticised Tata and more broadly said local businesses should not just focus on profits or think of bypassing local laws, according to media reports and a source who attended the event.

There is no smoke without fire.

Goyal is core RSS, though much more polished and urbane than most swayamsevaks. Panchajanya is an RSS publication. They also have a right to their points of view.

Goyal, as the minister, has the right to air his views, palatable or unpalatable is beside the point. tata wants exactly what amazon and walmart are pushing for. These two ameriki giants are used to telling heads of state and heads of govt exactly how they should tweak their laws to accommodate the twice blessed amazon and walmart's need to rip off customers in India, sink small Indian businesses and wipe out the kirana store system in India, which the Modi govt will not permit. In the middle of all this murty's cloudtail is a big and preferred player on amazon and has been flagged by the GoI for violations
Goyal has also repeatedly criticized Amazon and Walmart's Flipkart for allegedly bypassing foreign investment rules for e-commerce. This week, he also invoked the "Quit India" movement in parliament as he welcomed a court order that allowed an antitrust probe of the two companies to continue.

The Confederation of All India Traders, however, welcomed Goyal's stand on Saturday, saying it was "highly unfortunate" that Tata was opposing government's e-commerce rules.

The 153-year-old Tata Group has big e-commerce plans and is planning launch of an app that will integrate several of its top brands, but the proposed policy changes have spooked it, Reuters has reported.

It’s the end of the road for Cloudtail India Pvt. Ltd, one of the largest sellers on Amazon India. The company will shut operations in May next year as parents N.R. Narayana Murthy’s Catamaran Ventures and Amazon India decided to end their seven-year-old partnership amid rising government scrutiny into operations of US e-commerce firms for alleged violations of foreign investment rules.

Catamaran Ventures and Amazon India will not renew their contract for joint venture Prione Business Services Ltd, the parent of Cloudtail India, leading to the end of its seven-year term on 19 May 2022, according to a joint statement by the two firms on Monday.

https://www.businesstoday.in/latest/cor ... 2021-02-18

Amazon's leaked internal document has brought the spotlight on two particular sellers on the platform -- Cloudtail and Appario - who enjoyed over 35 percent of total sales on the platform until 2019. The leaked internal document was part of a briefing note prepared for Amazon.com Inc's former executive Jay Carney accessed by Reuters.

Among other details, the internal document reveals the US-based tech giant Amazon developed an independent seller named Cloudtail in joint venture with an entity formed by one of India's biggest tech magnates and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy. Cloudtail, also referred to as a 'special merchant' or 'SM' in the internal documents, has been selling goods on Amazon since its inception in August 2014.

Amazon's strategy behind the joint venture was to boost sales indirectly. "The Special Merchant (SM) was launched in August-14 and we helped SM quickly ramp up and gain scale through Q4," an Amazon India report, dated Feb. 23, 2015, read.

Amazon's business strategy for Cloudtail was to "Launch, stabilize, grow Special Merchant; make it profitable." The target was to ensure that Cloudtail accounted for 40 per cent of Amazon.in sales and make it into a $1+ billion business in 2015. Cloudtail's share of sales on Amazon.in was around 47% in March 2016, according to the internal document, Reuters reported.

With the help of Amazon, Cloudtail acquired "key relationships" with major tech firms-Apple, OnePlus, and Microsoft. This included exclusive deals to sell their products like smartphones. This was a win-win situation for both Cloudtail and tech companies as tech companies got a big new sales channel whereas Cloudtail got sought-after products listed on Amazon.in.

However, India revised its e-commerce policy in 2016. The revised e-commerce rules in 2016 stated, "e-commerce entities providing [a] marketplace will not directly or indirectly influence the sale price of goods or services and shall maintain [a] level playing field." It also capped online marketplace sales from a single seller at 25% of total sales. This forced Amazon to reduce Cloudtail's share of sales to 25% or less.

But to address the sales cap, Amazon entered into a joint venture with an entity backed by the family of Ashok Patni, a pioneer in the Indian IT outsourcing sector. The new seller launched in 2017 was named Appario and referred to as 'SM2' in an internal document. Cloudtail and Appario allegedly got "subsidized fees" and access to Amazon global retail tools. Murthy, Cloudtail said no comment to Reuters' queries, while Patni and Appario did not respond, the news agency reported.

According to the internal document, Cloudtail and Appario enjoyed 35% of Amazon's online sales before the Indian government announced new restrictions that prohibited vendors in which e-tailers such as Amazon had equity interest from selling products on the same platform. Amazon removed the products sold by Cloudtail and Appario from the platform in 2019 and reduced their equity stake in the joint venture to comply with the new rules. They reintroduced the products on Amazon after the reduction in stake.

Meanwhile, Amazon has refuted it undertook unscrupulous measures to avoid stringent e-commerce regulations in India. The retail giant said that it has always complied with the law of the land and remains committed to supporting manufacturers and small and medium businesses in the country.

"As we have not seen the documents and Reuters has not shared their provenance with us, we cannot confirm the veracity or otherwise of the information and claims stated. The article appears to be based on unsubstantiated, incomplete, and/or factually incorrect information, likely supplied with the intention of creating sensation and discrediting Amazon," said an Amazon spokesperson.

"Amazon remains compliant with all Indian laws. In the last several years, there have been number of changes in regulations governing the marketplaces and Amazon has, on each occasion taken rapid action to ensure compliance. The story therefore seems to have outdated information and does not show any non-compliance," the spokesperson further added.

Regarding infosys, I think that the points raised are valid.

murty is also connected with the ford foundation. He was a fraud foundation trustee for six years. He is also funding sheldon pollock via donations and the establishment of Murty Classical Library of India at harvard, ostensibly in the name of his son.

after his failed self advertised attempts at becoming the president of India, he wanted to become the Indian ambassador to the US, failed there too. Even the congis kept him at arms length. the sikka fiasco was all murty and his micromanagement efforts to run a proxy. holier than thou is not a management strategy that is guaranteed to work these days. even wick dipping padres have stopped using it.

he tried to enter parliament via the khujliwal aam aadmi party and we all know what that would have entailed. In fact, quite a few infosys founders tried to enter parliament via the same route but khujliwal proved too smart for them.

NR Narayana Murthy, the non-executive chairman of Infosys Technologies, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Ford Foundation, an independent, non-profit grant making organisation. Mr Murthy will join the board at its May meeting. Ford Foundation trustees are elected by the full board and serve 6 year terms.

The trustees set policies relating to grant making, geographic focus, spending, investment, management, governance and professional standards, and they oversee internal and independent audits.Mr Murthy also serves as an independent director on the boards of Unilever, HSBC and NDTV.
Major and serial fiascos by one "IT company", First the MCA portal, then the GST portal and now the new Income Tax portal.

No lessons learned despite three mule kicks to the Govt's credibility and reputation

In all three cases, it is the Modi govt that has ultimately been saddled with the blame and international shame

They had three jobs, right in the sweet spot of their alleged core competency and they messed up all of them.

The press seems to be silent on these major fiascos by a so called IT company owned by wokes or is it because he is director in NDTV and the presstitutes ganged up to protect their own

three gigantic fiascos in a row and a pathetic performance every single time, wantonly subjecting the country and the Govt to international ridicule and mockery

Once is happenstance. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is enemy action

The RSS, via Panchajanya, has called it absolutely right.

And finally, anywhere except in India, the land of holy cows and white elephants, such companies would have been blacklisted pronto and also sued for every penny that they have

The Bulgaria story of NM is true. Many youngsters of that era were drawn by communist ideals, heck that whole Govt was very close to USSR. NRN has come out of it decades ago, has no relevance today. Even Sadhguru is on record he was a lefty revolutionary in his youth does that make him anti national too?

Coming to the national anthem controversy, it was a bad call. If he was anti national, why invite Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in the first place? Why choose to play the instrumental version at all? His explanation was bad communication. It got blown out of proportion by media houses who were denied direct access to Infy results announcements in real time. Remember there was a period when even a rat farting in Infosys would make front page headlines every day? That was dealt with and the stories stopped.

Sikka just didn't fit into the company's culture. NRN handpicked him and realised he made a mistake. When he found out details about some acquisitions that happened that that time, he had enough grounds to fire Sikka. What's that to do with current matters?

Its fair to criticise NRN for his associations with Ford Foundation or Sidney Pollack. But again it's his money and his time. Infosys has nothing to with it.

NRN may have had political ambitions, but he realised he isn't cut out for it, and couldn't afford to drag the company into controversies. For the same reason, he asked Nandan to resign from BoD before pursuing politics. Just see even now his name and picture are used when the company has a troubled project. None of this makes him anti national, and has no bearing on the Company in which he has no role today.

Insuniating that on 3 major contracts with Indian Govt there were problems equates to the company itself being antinational is simply untenable. Infosys could rightly sue the author for defamation.

If you see what I posted, I was in favour of Piyush Goyal's position assuming he had small businesses protection in mind.

If one's wearing tinted glasses, there will be smoke everywhere.

Of course RSS, BJP have a right to their opinions, so does every Amar Akbar & Anthony. And the world will draw its opinion of them based on what they spout.

I forgot to mention, they had also messed up the India Post finacle software implementation as well.

finacle is their own inhouse offering too, sort of a poor man's oracle thing, perhaps and they would know finacle better than anyone else in the world.

go figure

Cyrano ji,

none of it was directed at you. The post was not replied to by name.

If your post was picked, it was merely a matter of convenience of topic and situation

If any distress was caused, my apologies.

I know where you are coming from.

I have been watching these guys for years now. Not many people know how they started their journey and that is a tale by itself.

BTW, when dealing with the Head of state, there are rigid protocols to be followed and it would have been explained to him in minute detail and a few practice runs would have been done to ensure that the event went off glitch free, protocol wise.

lucky for him that gentle APJ was the guest and not pranab mukherjee.

pranabda would have torn him a new one, then and there, and publicly too without mincing any words and left him bleeding profusely while making sure that the papers carried it in headlines

Its fair to criticise Infosys or any company on their project performance. If they don't deliver time after time, they will lose business and reputation. But calling them anti national is just political smearing. Justifying such smearing based on founders' actions elsewhere who no longer run the company's affairs just doesnt hold water.

Chetak ji, I didn't take it personally. No need for apologies. Infosys has always been a high profile company, and that comes with + & -s. The more visible you are the more you'll be scrutinised and criticised.

What causes me some heart burn is how quickly we move to tear down an iconic company which has been exemplary and pioneering in so many ways. That doesnt make them impervious to failures or immune from fair criticism.

This needless and mindless controversy only serves to damage a leading Indian corporate, India's IT sector, RSS, BJP, the FM, the Govt and India's reputation globally. If this is not playing into the hands of anti India forces, what is?

Tell me Cyrano saar, what happens when woke people, day in and day out, call the RSS anti national.

have we ever called the wokes out. By which yardstick is the RSS anti national.

It is the ideological wellspring of the largest democratically elected political party in the world

BTW, the fraud foundation is not in India for fun and games.

It is a dedicated founder member of the BIF cabal.

It's resources, among other things, include almost unrestricted access the ameriki deep state and the highest levels of power of one of the desert cults

leaving aside the controversial finacle, tell me one original product of even reasonably wide acceptance that has been done by them.

their strengths lie in body shopping and arbitrage, which they have learned to use effectively

look at how cloudtail has behaved, grounds enough for the GoI to get upset, would other companies associated with the same guy have behaved any better.
