Great PC improvisation from the juniors for the winning goal!
These youngsters are really good at responding to top tier European style of play - doing a great job of man marking against opportunistic deflection attempts the Europeans love, and the goalie is spectacular. They'll take the senior team far in the future.

Lost 2-4 . The Germans were just too much bigger - almost a head taller and had far greater reach. We play France (again) for bronze.SBajwa wrote:India vs Germany in 1 hour 20 minutes. Watch hockey app on your phone for free live view

Kohli now has 39 test wins as captain from 66 tests, with a 2.43 win/loss record, on par with the disgraced Hansie Cronje among captains with at least 25 wins, and behind only Waugh, Clive Lloyd and Ponting, who commanded all time greatest teams.
Among Indian captains:
There's a huge change in test results since the Ganguly era.
From somewhere down the table throughout the 20th century, India has the 3rd most test wins with the 2nd highest win/loss ratio this century.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
You can watch the finals between Srikanth and Loh Kean Yew live for free on youtube. Loh Kean Yew has been a giant killer this tournament. He beat the no 2 and no 3 seeds, both tall danes at 6'4 and 6'0. Srikanth has his task cutout.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Srikanth lost. He had his chances, especially in the second game. I have never seen anybody play better than Srikanth at the net...until today. Yew had the better of Srikanth at the net in the first game. Srikanth changed tactics to combine net play with back of the court play in the second game and led 18-16 at one point. He started winning the longer rallies, but instead of keeping the rallies going, he was often hasty to end the point which resulted in errors. Yew is quick around the court too. He defended shots which could have been winners with others. Yew was unseeded in the tournament.
This is Srikanth's first finals in 32 months, it seems. He is only 28. He has at least two more years of top level play if he wants it. His first Grand Prix came when he was only 20.
Lakshya Sen is 20 now. Hope he goes on to become a top player.

Was recently watching Atrangi Re which had Sara Ali Khan as lead female and something felt weird.
In her 2018 movie Kedarnath she is in love with Mansoor Khan, who is a local Muslim porter.
In Atrangi Re 2021 she is in love with a Muslim Sajjad Ali Khan.

India wins the first test to lead 1-0 in South Africa, The only test playing nation where we haven't won a series yet.
2021 is the second time India have had won four Tests outside Asia in a calendar year (Brisbane, Lord's, Oval, Centurion). The previous instance was in 2018 (Jo'burg, Nottingham, Adelaide, Melbourne).
First time any Asian side has won in Centurion.
Also the 50th time that a team led by Kohli bowled out the opposition under 200, Which eclipses Greame Smith's record of 49

Updating the earlier table:
Just one behind Waugh now, and a part of the 4-member elite of captains with at least 40 test wins. A series win could see him catch up with or even overtake Waugh in the process, and he's on track to get close to Ponting in a year.
A lot of people have strong feelings about Kohli, but the construction of the team is his effort - in particular the emphasis on personal fitness and the pace attack. It's so heartening to see 'right arm fast' against multiple members of the bowling attack now - for the first time in Indian cricketing history we have pacers who dominate the strike rate figures in the past few years while maintaining impressive low 20s averages.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Agree, the overseas wins are his legacy. And I have never seen him selfishly slow down, at least in ODIs, near a century or half century. In the last two years, there were at least a couple of occasions where he got out trying for quick runs within sight of a century.Suraj wrote:Updating the earlier table:Just one behind Waugh now, and a part of the 4-member elite of captains with at least 40 test wins. But his wokeness is turning me off cricket. Also, more and more, luck seems to be a factor. The toss(dew) or rain or clouds decide the result. If not for the pandemic, I wouldn't even be bothered to look at the scores.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Yes Kohli has 16 away wins - he might just finish his career with more away wins than Ganguly has total wins. In fact he has a positive (16-13) away win/loss record along with Ganguly (11-10).
Dhoni was 6-15 away, worsened by the successive 0-4 losses in 2011-12.
Kohli's legacy will be defined by how well he handles his current form slump combined with his extra curricular virtue signalling.

It shows how news media manipulates and twists narratives in order to suit their "brand of viewership". How Hollywood and the liberal elite make useless, good for nothing gestures that make no difference to the actual cause ( The charity concert scene) and the extra coverage for a singer/rapper's drama .
The Billionaire character was a good critique of how the Gates/Zuccs/Jobs/Musks of the world operate and their hypocrisy.
Or how difficult it is to translate genuine scientific discovery and discussion into something that the common public will understand and take seriously.
It shows the drawbacks of democracy in which the response of any government/leader to any crisis between before an election is measured against their place in polls and that the general public (at least in America) seems to be more concerned about worshipping their leader and taking all ignoring all basic scientific evidence.
All in all its about what has happened since 2020 and how Trump, Republicans, Media, Public and the entire ecosystem responded just with a meteorite strike instead of Covid

Anybody watched Pushpa on Netflix in the US? Hearing good things about it. Is it good to watch with parents?
I see that Pushpa is available in multiple languages but not Hindi on Amazon Prime here in the US. Does anybody know if it is subtitled, or is there a Hindu dub anywhere?

Some box-office reports from Bhai-wood.
Seems like woke Deepika and her Islamist wokest friend Kabir Khan's movie 83 based on 1983 world cup flopped big time and now holds the record for biggest flop of bhaiwood ever. Her hubby told that Pakistanis stopped firing on Indian positions to let them watch the finals in peace. Err, there were hardly any TVs in India back then not sure how they were watching the finals on the border.
Sallu mian's Antim also barely made it past the flop mark. Had it not been for overseas collection he would've got burnt here.
Spiderman and Pushpa are going strong and making very high collections even during pandemic.
Pushpa should be available to watch on all platforms soon dubbed in Hindi.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
There was no cross-border firing until 1989. I think it was in 1989-90 that the LOC began heating up as pakis started pushing more and more jihadi cannon fodder through the border. This isn't the first time Kabir Khan has tried to make shantidoots and pakis look friendly and innocent, he tried pulling the same stunt in that terrible movie "Ek tha tiger".

It's all a confidence problem for him. Should have been up there with Axelsen. I feel the coaching staff are to blame.
Lakshya Sen needs to build up strength and power physically. He runs out of steam because he has to play at 100% to match other top players when they are at their 80%. Vimal Kumar is a good coach so there is hope.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
India loses 2-1 in South Africa after a promising start.
Credit where credit is due the South African middle order was simply amazing in the last two tests, This type of solidity against Bumrah and Co is basically unseen in the last 3-4 years
How many other test teams have been at 200-3 kinda situation against India repeatedly??... Not Australia, Not England, Not even our nemesis New Zealand but the quad of Elgar, RVD, Petersen and Bavuma did it and in successive innings.
India was let down by its batting and in a reverse of the previous series where the question was why didn't Rahane play all 3 games the question here is why did he play all 3 games. Seems the end of the road for him.. Pujara might stick for a little more but it's the probably over for him too.

Virat Kohli steps down as Indian Test Captain.
https://twitter.com/imVkohli/status/148 ... Sn1Jw&s=19
Took over the captaincy in 2014 and saw through India's most successful period in Test Cricket with many number 1 finishes and marquee away wins. In terms of disappointments one would say not winning in NZ, SA and the Test Championship final would be high.
This combined with the very likely phasing out of Rahane, Pujara, Ishant, Ash etc signals an end of this late 2010's era of Indian Cricket.
People have very mixed opinions on him and this side but no other team in Indian Test History was able to go abroad and win like this one has... And the improvement in our fitness, fast bowling was a game changing one and will continue to serve us well for a long time.

Lakshya Sen wins Super 500 Indian open badminton beating world champon Loh KY. Rankireddy/Shetty won the doubles. Sen is probably the best Indian player even though the rankings might not Indicate it.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
I think Kohli should have continued for a couple of years more as captain in all formats to groom the next captain(s) and gradually transition out from captaincy. Why dethrone him with such a stellar record? Reflects poorly on BCCI. On lack of big tournament wins, pandemic imposed constraints and bio bubbles have played havoc for past 2 years on team selections as well, lets not forget that. Both Kohli and Ashwin look like they have 4-5 years of top level game left in them.
Rahane & Pujara have disappointed but there are no consistent performers to replace them. New players who played well ended up with injuries. May be super high levels of fitness take their toll and its not sustainable for many skilled players? Many young players seem to be performing at 100% for 2 years and getting injured. Earlier generation was performing at 80-90% fitness but were major injury (leading to several months out of team) free for 4-5 years... this aspect needs looking into. IPL in summer heat also takes a heavy toll on players.

Well ODI and T20 certainly needed a change imo , We have a T20 world cup next year and a home world Cup in 23 so its worth having Rohit captain in them since he has shown his acumen for being a tactically astute limited overs captain especially since very talented Indian squads have fallen short at the final hurdle in the previous CT,WCs .Cyrano wrote:I think Kohli should have continued for a couple of years more as captain in all formats to groom the next captain(s) and gradually transition out from captaincy. As for Tests i do feel Kohli should have continued but also that its him who has stepped down rather than BCCI stripping him . Obviously there is a power struggle going on and instead of working with or being answerable to Ganguly and co he decided to step away and take the (in his opinion ) high road . We've already seen he in influenced a lot by Anushka in this regards and her contempt for the BCCI/Establishment is clear .
Sad it had to end this way for who is India's most successful test captain but lets not forget that for a period of 4-5 years he enjoyed absolute and outright dominance in Indian cricket that even the likes of Kapil,Sunil ,Sachin,MSD never saw .
Previously there was always a board leader who would rule with an iron fist ala Dalmiya ,Sreeni etc but Kohli's tenure coincided with the useless Vinod Rai/Edulji committe taking over ..Kohli took advantage of that vaccuum and basically enjoyed a free reign for 4-5 years .Now the shoe is on the other foot and the board is cracking the whip wanting to again display its authority .
As far as Rahane and Pujara replacements go there are several ..Iyer made a hundred in the very previous series and then was dropped again , Vihari has shown he is capable of holding an end , Gill can be transitioned to 3 instead of an opener and other young players who have been doing good in Ranji deserve a chance
