this is how the BIF makes laws in India while the elected govt sleeps
why is it that the name of the person or organization who/which files the PIL is so difficult to find out
As per making all laws gender neutral, there is very little movement in that direction and this is the wilfully neglected prime responsibility of all concerned
and if you are a woke, darbari, parivari journo like tezpaul, rape cases can go on for years and years with courts sanctioning closed hearings and all news of proceedings is tightly locked down.
what about justice for the victim....... or are we asking for too much onlee
Well, it looks like "marriage" is not well defined in India, and the legal system is struggling as a result of it. A standard contract form needs to be drawn up that lays out the terms of the deal -
a. How many kids the two parties desire to have.
b. What assets both parties are contributing to the marriage.
c. What types of sex is contemplated and how often.
d. How many times either party can refuse sex.
e. Pre-agreed remedies upon dissolution of marriage.
f. Anything else I missed?

That is not how the right activist want it. They will pick on one right after another. Comprehensive review is will bring in responsibilities too and that hurts.
Understand. But no reason to let them set the agenda. Few other items can be added to make it religion neutral too -
g. Is husband expected to be monogamous?
h. Is wife expected to be monogamous?
i. If answer to either is no, what types of other relationship are contemplated? List names and others involved acknowledge this marriage.
j. Division of assets after marriage ends if more than 2 people are involved.

93 Christian Ladies return to Hinduism in Vishakahpatnam
Ghar Wapsi mission spearheaded by Global Hindu Heritage Foundation
Her father worked at Harvard Medical School, but left to work at AIIMS and work in a public hospital in India. Her mother, after learning that Nundy's cousin was born of cerebral palsy, started the Spastics Society of Northern India.[8]
Education[edit]
She received a degree in economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University.[9] After a short stint as a TV journalist[9][10] she studied law at Cambridge University,[10][9] and later pursued LL.M. from Columbia University, New York.
She doesn't have terminal degree in Law. In the US it is Juris Doctor. Without a JD, they can't practice, AFAIK.
There are three things that matter to her: “I’m in it for meaning, money, and metamorphosis.”
We have to give her this. She is at least honest unlike other SC lawyers, ex. Prashant Bhushan.
(Added later - I have to include it here of its sheer value)
Accomplishments[edit]
In November 2019, she also met German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, during her 2-day visit to India.[17] Nundy was included by an Economic Times jury in a list of 'Corporate India's Fastest Rising Women Leaders' which cited her as being 'famous in the corporate world for her expertise in commercial law'.[18][19] In 2020, Forbes Magazine named her on their list of "Self Made Women 2020."[20] Forbes Magazine also called her a “Mind that Matters” and Mint described her as the “Agent of Change.”[21]
Nundy enjoys songwriting as a hobby saying, "I wrote a jazz song for my father’s 80th birthday. It was interesting because my father’s positive qualities are quite traditional. The song was partly about that, and partly about him raising me to be a free and strong woman.”[7]
A long list of accomplishments, indeed.
This is her 2017 interview re. TT

Wont get into the what he said:
Whats more interesting are the ads I was served during this. e.g. How peacefuls can earn more money at home without needing the spouse to go outside and work and such like...
The moral: the backend is clueless and does not know what ads to serve to a certain people. Its complete non existence like dark matter. And what little presence there is, is mediated by lib*andu folks... what is this ? erasure? followed by what ? ...surprise ?
Just calling this out as an observation..
A famous Advertising Guru once said, "50% of the ads don't work. But the trouble is knowing which 50%". The other thing is that the guys who commit the expenditure on behalf of the clients have no skin in the game. They are not paid based on what incremental revenue they bring to the table.
Perhaps I misspoke by calling the backend clueless. It's effectively placed a bet that heathen got no clout and the nearest approximation to them are p*full folk. Either that will pay off or not.. remains to be seen

'Literati' event 'Polarised Politics'. Fair enough to have diversified opinion but what's point when all 3- Ajay Gudavathy (JNU Prof, TheWire OpEd), Kawalpreet Kaur (AISA, Riots UAPA accused), & Ashok Swain (doesn't need intro) having pathetically propagandist stance??
In her letter to the Prime Minister, Banerjee said, “I express my strong reservations to the approach followed by the Central Government in proposing such amendment to the Cadre Rules which unilaterally mandates the State Government to make such number of officers available for deputation as prescribed under Central Deputation Reserve. Not only is the proposed amendment against the spirit of cooperative federalism but the same also upsets the time-tested harmonious arrangement which has existed between the Centre and States in the matter of posting of IAS-IPS officers.”
Explaining her reasons, Banerjee wrote, “By insisting on officers to be made available for deputation through the proposed amendment, not only will the administration of States be affected but also it would become impossible to assess and plan the administration of a State – by engaging such officers who form part of the Central Deputation Reserve, fraught with the uncertainty. of their sudden deputation by the Centre.”
This must be hurting Mamata's means of abusing central govt. officials deputed to WB, Momta.www.com is getting very shrill but that's her usual mode.
Removes all prerogative from the State govt.'s hands.
As per the current guidelines, the Centre every year asks states for an “offer list” of officers from the All India Services (IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service) cadre who are willing to go on central deputation, after which it selects officers from that list.
The proposed insertion in the rules state that, “Each State Government shall make available for deputation to the Central Government, such number of eligible officers of various levels to the extent of the Central Deputation Reserve prescribed under regulations referred to in Rule 4(1), adjusted proportionately by the number of officers available with the State Government concerned vis-a-vis the total authorised strength of the state cadre at the given point of time. The actual number of officers to be deputed to the Central Government shall be decided by the Central Government in consultation with State Government concerned.”
The proposed insertion further said, “In case of any disagreement, the matter shall be decided by the Central Government and the State Government or State Government concerned shall give effect to the decision of the Central Government within a specified time.”;
SC agrees to consider according hearing to plea seeking use of ballots instead of EVMs for polls
If the SC nixes EVMs allows ballot boxes, then we know something very sinister is up for 2024 elections. Surely the SC knows the problems with ballots, so what is the urgency to hear this?

SC agrees to consider according hearing to plea seeking use of ballots instead of EVMs for polls
I will be deeply shocked if the EVM is nixed.
Because every time the EC has asked the critics to participate in hackathon of the machine. The critics have not shown up to the event. Therefore they have never been able to prove any vulnerability of the system.
With that as a fact, no cause for EVM removal can be realistically made.
Having said so, SC has not really been an impartial player in the past.
But EC is a constitutional authority. It might be able to stand up to pressure of the SC.
Seems like a constitutional issue saying the use of EVMs was never approved by Parliament. However, I'm not sure the actual implementation of an election needs Parliament approval, as otherwise every little change to election procedures would need to go to Parliament.
The scammers are using courts to repeatedly keep the issue of credibility of EVMs in the news. SC is obliging them in spite of how many times this was brought up. Does the nature of judgement changes just because the composition of the courts changed?

The muscling of regional satraps against their local BJP leaders shouldn't be seen in isolation. Be it PJ, MH, AP/Telangana, WB, everywhere its a common pattern of BJP ground workers being killed/attacked or harassed. If ballot boxes are ok'd, surely we will see these attacks increase manifold, and intimidation tactics on BJP voters will also spike up.

Isn't EVM an election commission's prerogative? At least in USA it is . Election commission is supposed to be independent from other branches with 100% authority to conduct elections with security provided by State and Central government.

if taken further, this is not going to end well.
the BJP will come out swinging and this time with brass knuckles on
the Indian ECI, the EVMs, and the electoral processes are all world renowned for fairness, accuracy, efficiency, and absolute depth of coverage, and no one has been able to fault it

I argued about the hackathon with an IIT trained evm critic but his response was that the ec is not fair with rules of the hackathon. When I mention abt delhi, bengal and rajasthan results while Modi in power the response was that this is a controlled loss to give credibility to evm .
I understood that the opposition of such critics is ideological and the goal is to defeat Modi by what ever means all logic be damned. No amt of argument will convince them , all they need is one such person to be at the helm to achieve there goals

rajiv ghandhy overruled the shahbano judgement in parliament
who does not know this
or are people thinking that the govt of the day is clueless or what.........
like I said, if the need arises, then the BJP will come out swinging this time with brass knuckles on
fundamentally and like Icarus, two "pillars of democracy" should always remember the dangers of hubris and the risks of overreaching institutional and constitutional limits
Looks like Akhilesh is trying the same stunts as Mamata with a fake "exodus" from party to BJP as means of getting insider info on BJP's strategy. Such late switchers are hopefully given the mushroom treatment (kept in the dark and fed krap) given the experience with Babul Supriyo and other TMC scum. All this drama about split in the family is just that.
Last elections Akhilesh Yadav's uncle split and formed his own party.
Basically SP family cant stay together as Tonti is unable to hold them together.
But he wants to be CM.

I said so the same thing in the elections thread yesterday.

While the media is making a big deal out of it, Aparna Yadav is a political lightweight but BJP must be careful not to repeat the same mistake they did while admitting everyone from TMC just before the WB polls. I still believe that it was Prashant Kishore who orchestrated Mukul Roy's joining BJP, scuttling the BJP boat from within and then jumping back to the TMC ship. I wouldn't put it past him to try the same tactics elsewhere.
That said Prateek Yadav is from the other "wing" of Mulayam Singh and i doubt if he gets along with Akhilesh. But nevertheless after TMC/Mukul Roy experience, BJP must be vigilant on whom it takes in.
I understand the fear. But the Bahu of the patriarch going to the opposition is a huge deal. The propaganda aspects of this in favour of BJP are so massive that Mulayam or Akhilesh will have to be blind not to see.
It like going into a battle with on arm already cut off.
Some close associate of the patriarch is ok for deception a operation. But not the Bahu.
Once bitten twice shy as they say, after the WB shenanigans BJP needs to be doubly careful . Aparna Yadav is the "choti bahu" , Dimple Yadav, Akhilesh's wife is a more public and well known face. So this is almost similar to Menaka Gandhi joining BJP, yes, it made headlines but she was/is still no Sonia.
