Defence Acquisition Council approves proposals worth Rs 70,500 crore for the Armed Forces & Indian Coast Guard under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category
Can't think of a better successor to the trusty old Chetak.
Also lays to rest the blade folding question
Great job by HAL and Navy for the huge order for ALH.Indian Navy proposals constitute more than Rs 56,000 crore, which largely includes indigenous BrahMos missiles, Shakti Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, Utility Helicopters-Maritime etc.
While this additional procurement of BrahMos missile system will enhance the maritime strike capabilities & Anti-Surface Warfare Operation, the addition of Utility Helicopters will multiply the operational readiness of the Indian Navy in the domain of Search & Rescue operations, Casualty Evacuation, Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief (HADR) etc. Similarly, Shakti EW systems will equip and modernise the frontline Naval ships to counter any Naval Operations by the adversaries.
Accordance of AoN for Medium Speed Marine Diesel Engine under Make-I category is a significant step as, for the first time, India is venturing into the development & manufacturing of such engines indigenously to achieve self-reliance & leverage the capabilities of the Industries towards the goal of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
Can't think of a better successor to the trusty old Chetak.

Bail plea of eight Indian naval veterans rejected for 8th time in Doha
excerpts
excerpts
https://thewire.in/world/qatar-former-i ... enied-bailEight retired Indian Navy officers who have been in detention without charges in Qatar since August 2022 have been denied bail for the eighth time, according to reports.
The ex-Navy men, who were working for the private company Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services in Qatar, were training the Qatari Navy. But it is unclear why they were arrested by the State Security Bureau (SSB), the intelligence agency of Qatar.
On March 15, 2023, their bail plea was rejected for the eighth time, and their detention has been extended for another 30 days, according to the New Indian Express. Meetu Bhargava, whose brother is one of the detained former naval officers, told the newspaper, “Families can appeal against this on Sunday (March 19th) but our hopes have crashed.”

Some of them are very hard to track. Using Chinese phones in our defence establishment is a real threat and I am shocked to see that Government is still allowing it. Yes, you are right and that is why Modi uses iPhone, and all defence establishment uses RedHat linux or Windows, and they use HP servers for storing Aadhar data and foreign ministry develops presentations using MS Office. And NSA's main goal is to convince Apple, Microsoft, Google, HP, Oracle etc to compromise their chips or OS Code to get data from India. And all those Indian dudes and dudettes sitting in those companies, knowingly works with NSA and are all compromised and never bothered to leak this ever.hgupta wrote:sohamn wrote: I don't know if you understand the difference in snooping between US and China. As for those mobile devices, I don't like it anymore than you do but it goes to show that certain protocols must be followed when discussing national security matters. Those phones are considered "unsecured lines" and when discussing of great national security import, you start using secured lines.

Ability to operate un-crewed vessels easily translates to mine countermeasure capability, this is the future of MCM. Wondering if it can handle HEAUV as well. Size-wise, this seems roughly that of Kamorta. Doesn't have air-defence.
Since it has torpedoes/ASW rockets, I am assuming it will have a complement of sonars, though it doesn't say so in the spec sheet.
Wonder what radar is used?

I believe all IN ships of this tonnage have personnel armed with MANPADs as a stand-off weapon. I also think that the radar and the sonar are deliberately kept under wraps.Prem Kumar wrote:Size-wise, this seems roughly that of Kamorta. Doesn't have air-defence.

Why delay fighter jets for IAF, says the Parliamentary Committee on Defence
The Committee also asked the government to make a final decision on having a third aircraft carrier, “In no uncertain words, [we] recommend that the Ministry of Defence may take a final decision, chalk out a trajectory and start the planning process for the third aircraft carrier which would eventually enhance India’s maritime capabilities,” the parliamentary panel said in its report on March 21.

Boost to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat': MoD signs Rs 19,600 crore contracts for 11 patrol vessels, 6 missile vessels - ToI
The defence ministry on Thursday signed contracts with Indian shipyards for acquisition of 11 next Generation offshore patrol vessels and six next generation missile vessels at cost of Rs 19,600 crore for Navy.
"The contract for acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category was signed with Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata at a total cost of Rs 9,781 crore," the ministry of defence said in a statement.
Of the 11 ships, seven will be indigenously designed, developed and manufactured by GSL and four by GRSE. The delivery of the ships is scheduled to commence from September 2026.
"The acquisition of these ships will enable the Indian Navy to maintain its combat capability and meet various operational requirements such as Anti-Piracy, Counter-Infiltration, Anti-Poaching, Anti-Trafficking, Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations, Search and Rescue (SAR), Protection of Offshore Assets etc. The construction of these ships will generate employment of 110 lakh man-days over a period of seven and half years, the statement said.
The contract for acquisition of six Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) was signed with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for Rs 9,805 crore.
The delivery of ships is scheduled to commence from March 2027.
The NGMVs would be heavily armed war vessels incorporating stealth, high speed and offensive capability. The primary role of the ships would be to provide offensive capability against enemy warship, merchantmen and land targets.
"These ships will be capable of conducting Maritime Strike Operations, Anti Surface Warfare Operations and would be a potent instrument of sea denial for enemy ships especially at choke points. In a defensive role, these ships would be employed for Local Naval Defence operations and seaward defence of Offshore Development Area. The construction of these ships will generate employment of 45 lakh man-days over a period of nine years," the ministry said.
"The indigenous manufacturing of these vessels will encourage the active participation of Indian shipbuilding and associated industries, including MSMEs. With the majority of the equipment and systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers, these vessels will be a proud flag bearer of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’," it added.

Q: Hypothetically, if Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam were to seek the long-range (800km/500 mi) coastal batteries, what would be the obstacle in supplying?
Long range BrahMos coastal batteries with Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia will turn South China sea into a fish bowl.

No.
MTCR is designed to restrict the proliferation of capacity to diliver nuclear payloads.
That has been defined as < 500 kg or was that pounds ( i am not clear about this) in terms of payloads and 300 KMS in range. Which is why the original Brahmos was limited to a range of 290 KMS. The range enhancement was an indigenous effort.

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 12 April 2021
This 290km range is a fig leaf. Range enhancement is a given, much like how the AR-15 assault rifle can be modified to automatic, everybody knows about it. We can supply "290km" missiles with a jumper which when removed increases range to 500km. In the eventuality of a firing beyond 290km we will attribute it to "unauthorized modification" by the customer.Pratyush wrote:No.
