The reason behind the G-Bs recent 'freedom from Pakistan' movement. A sense of entitlement is an inbuilt trait.
Yawn - Centre asks Gilgit-Baltistan to rationalise wheat price
Yawn - Centre asks Gilgit-Baltistan to rationalise wheat price
Amid criticism over the distribution of free wheat flour in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the federal government has called upon the Gilgit-Baltistan administration to urgently rationalise the cost of subsidised wheat for citizens in a phased, targeted manner and charge the affluent people market rates to ensure a sustainable supply.
The GB’s elected government has recently made a commitment to increase flour prices, which are more than ten times lower in the mountainous region than those in the rest of the country.
About Rs 8 billion wheat subsidy earmarked for Gilgit-Baltistan in this year’s federal budget has already been exhausted against the supply of about 90,000 tonnes early this year, as prices went up amid expensive imports.
Wheat supply to GB on subsidised rates has been going on since the 1970s. This was necessitated due to exorbitant prices of wheat flour in the area as the staple was sparsely cultivated in the region and transportation was too costly due to underdeveloped infrastructure.
A record seen by Dawn shows that flour currently sells for Rs 12.5 per kg in Gilgit-Baltistan against Rs 140 or more across the country.

Russia frustrated with Pakistan
Russia frustrated with Pakistan
Pakistan’s plan to import crude oil from Russia has hit a roadblock due to the slow progress on the Pakistani side, disappointing Moscow.
Sources revealed to The Express Tribune that Russia had already expressed doubts over Pakistan’s initiative to import crude oil from Russia and had asked Pakistan to import one crude oil cargo first to indicate its seriousness.
However, in a recent development, Russia was frustrated to learn that Pakistan had not started the process it committed to Moscow to start the first shipment of crude oil. Pakistan had committed that it would set up a new Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company that would be responsible for the import of Russian oil to Pakistani refineries. This state-run company would also handle all matters regarding the import and
payment of oil. Islamabad, however, had not yet started work on this plan and had not registered the SPV, which irritated Moscow.
Arabian crude oil produces more diesel and less furnace oil, while Russian crude oil produces more furnace oil and less diesel, which will erode the incentives offered by Russia on crude oil trade. Pakistani refineries are already facing problems in consuming furnace oil after the country’s power plants shifted towards LNG fuel. Pakistan requires crude oil that produces higher diesel oil, which will increase costs and erode incentives on crude oil from Russia. #Paki brilliance as usual#

Yawn - Veteran’s family breaks silence over civilian son’s court martial
The family of an army veteran on Tuesday made an impassioned plea to military and judicial authorities to ensure that justice is done in the case of Hasan Askree, a civilian who was court martialed after he wrote a critical letter to former army chief retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.
According to a press release issued after the press conference, this was the first time Mr Askree’s family members — including his father retired Maj-Gen Syed Zaffar Mehdi Askree, mother Wasima and sister Zehra — had gone public with their ordeal.
They claimed that not only was Hasan unjustly tried in a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) and summarily sentenced without even being informed of the actual charges, they insisted that he had been incarcerated alongside hardened criminals and terrorists in a maximum security prison and had not been transferred to Adiala jail, despite a court order.
Hasan Askree was picked up from his home in Oct 2020 and transferred to military custody. He was convicted and sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment following an FGCM trial, although neither he nor his family members have received a copy of the charges or verdict, despite repeated requests. Hasan’s father, Maj-Gen Zaffar Askree said he had been seeking a short meeting with military authorities for two and a half years and had written more than two dozen letters. However, he said, there has been no response or communication of any kind to date.

Yawn - Predecessor used ‘Dawn leaks’ to get extension, claims Gen Bajwa
FORMER army chief retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has reportedly said that there was nothing credible in the furore created over a Dawn story published in 2016, claiming that the issue was hyped up by his predecessor in a bid to secure an extension from then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
In his latest article, the journalist claims the former army chief rejected the impression that the ‘Dawn leaks’ saga, as it came to be known, posed any threat to national security. The Dawn story in question contained an account of a meeting between the country’s civilian and military leadership, where the government told the brass that it should act against militants or the country would have to face international isolation.
Gen Bajwa is also said to have referred to his conversation with Nawaz Sharif, when the former prime minister told him about his predecessor Gen Raheel Sharif, who he said was insisting on a three-year extension, along with former DG ISI Rizwan Akhtar.
“When I talked to Nawaz Sharif about Dawn leaks, he told me that whenever Gen Raheel Sharif and Gen Rizwan Akhtar came to see him, they insisted for three-year extension of Gen. Raheel,” Gen. Bajwa was quoted as saying in the interview.
“In front of Gen Raheel, Gen Rizwan was always insisted on a three-year extension for the army chief. But in private, he only asked for a one-year extension because he saw himself as the next army chief after Gen. Raheel.”

Israel’s Netanyahu: Mossad helped Greece uncover terror plot
DEREK GATOPOULOS, COSTAS KANTOURIS and JOSEF FEDERMAN, March 28, 2023
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late Tuesday said his country’s intelligence agency Mossad helped Greece prevent a terrorist attack planned against at least one Jewish site in Athens.
Greek authorities said earlier that two men described as being of Pakistani origin, who were not named, had been arrested for allegedly planning an attack on a Jewish restaurant. The attack was considered to be imminent and to be intended to cause extensive loss of life.
The suspects were charged Tuesday with terrorism offenses, while a third man believed to be outside Greece has been charged in absentia with similar offenses.
A statement from Netanyahu’s office maintained that the attackers were linked to Iran.
“After the start of the investigation of the suspects in Greece, the Mossad rendered intelligence assistance in unraveling the infrastructure, its work methods and the link to Iran,” the statement said.
“The investigation revealed that the infrastructure that operated in Greece is part of an extensive Iranian network run from Iran and spanning many countries.”
Greek authorities have not identified the foreign intelligence agency that provided assistance in the investigation, but said they were investigating the possibility that the suspects were also planning other attacks in Greece.

This report is gold! Army vs Army in public. We all knew Bajwa was not one of the bright ones. Bajwa is making allegations against previous army chief who is now leading a respectable retired life as chief watchman of royal palace in Saudi. Can't wait for Hafiz Munir to retire in 6 years and then leak interesting details about Bajwa like how during the Balakot episode not only his legs trembled but also he actually sh*t his pants.
Army chief is just a khaki wearing politician in Pakistan. Army used to go to great lengths to maintain a veneer of military professionalism using propaganda but in these unprecedented times, the internal army fault lines are out in the open making jernails look like local area corporators. These guys will never win a real war.“But wherever I would meet them, junior officers would ask me about [the issue]. I then talked to Chaudary Nisar [then-interior minister] and Ishaq Dar [then-finance minister] and suggested that they refer the cases of journalists [allegedly involved in the Dawn leaks affair] to CPNE because I didn’t want to stir that hornet’s nest. And then administrative action was decided against others. Nawaz Sharif wasn’t convinced over Pervaiz Rasheed but finally he agreed. Then it was decided to sack Pervaiz Rasheed and Tariq Fatemi.”

Bajwa says 'not responsible' for Nawaz's disqualification
Former COAS tells all in interview; comments on removal of Nawaz, Dawn leaks
He maintained that the army could not influence everything and that the SC itself was doing “a lot of things”.
The former army chief was then asked if former ISI chief General Faiz Hameed could pull off the feat by himself, to which the ex-COAS stated that “when you are asking someone to do eight things, and if he does ten, you cannot ask him”. He added that the phenomenon occurred all over the world with intelligence agencies doing many things of their own free will.
The interviewer again questioned if Bajwa disqualified Nawaz, and his answer remained the same.
“It was the decision of the five judges of the Supreme Court. When the judges give an order, what can you do? Justice Khosa also had a personal enmity with the Sharif family. Shahbaz Sharif divorced Justice Khosa's sister in the nineties,” claimed the former army chief in the interview..
Since Bajwa had claimed multiple times when he was COAS that army is no involved in politics, shouldn't he have said "how could he disqualify Nawaz when it's not the army's job to"?He questioned how he could disqualify Nawaz when the PML-N leader was responsible for making him the army chief. He added that Nawaz was always “good and decent” with him and that the army had “nothing to do with Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification”.
Expectation: Pakistan army chief is analyzing Indian moves at LoC to thwart any "India misadventure".“When the Panama case was going on in the court, [former premier] Shahid Khaqan Abbasi came to me and took me to Daman hill. We sat there for three hours. He said that we must help Nawaz in the Panama case. I said that I can't help him much because he has made a lot of mistakes,” he narrated, reiterating that Sharif made several mistakes in the case.
Reality: Pakistan army chief is analyzing details of a legal case involving Pak PM.
Bajwa indirectly contradicting his earlier statement in the same interview that he had nothing to do with Nawaz Shariff's disqualification. I told you Bajwa is not one of the bright ones.“I also sent a message to four or five people to ask Nawaz to oppose the inclusion of army officers in the JIT, but Nawaz was very confident and did not agree. Nawaz was sure that he had all the documents. He also wanted to stop the army for his honesty. But the problem was that if Nawaz Sharif was acquitted, all the rubble would fall on the army,” Bajwa said.
He replied that the army was fair too, adding that generals were also fair before some were “in love with Imran Khan”.
Bajwa reminding Hafiz Munir of his duties.“One thing the political parties do not understand is that the army chief was very important, and the army never compromised on its former army chief. When Article 6 was imposed on General Musharraf, the army turned against Nawaz and then the army even saved Musharraf. Musharraf would sometimes disappear on the way to court and then would arrive at the hospital,” he said.
“However, a day later, I went to Lahore, and suddenly the notification of Dawn Leaks started playing on another news channel. The channel started saying that the government did not punish the co-accused and the government issued an incomplete notification”.
Bajwa added that the media put a lot of pressure on the army and he called General (retd) Asif Ghafoor, who on his own accord issued a tweet that the notification was 'rejected'.
Pak COAS expected PM to be angry? Makes Pak army look weak and vulnerable. Bajwa - joo are a disgrace.“On the same day I was supposed to go to Fata, I left, and immediately after that, I got a call that the prime minister wanted to meet me. When I reached the prime minister's house, Nawaz Sharif came out and welcomed me. I thought he would be angry and express some displeasure, but he did not say anything”.
Who cares?“It occurred to me that something had gone wrong. Two days later the premier was to go to China. Now generals and political leaders started coming to me saying that I should not take back the tweet,” he added that Khawaja Asif and other Muslim Leaguers came and said he should not withdraw the tweet.
“But I could not send the prime minister of the country to China in an inferior position. What would be the status of such a prime minister in China who did not even have his army at his disposal, so the tweet was withdrawn”.
Papa John Bajwa asked for forgiveness? The interviewer asked how Bajwa forgave Rizwan and Asim Bajwa, to which the former COAS said he would forgive whoever came before him.
“I wanted to remove General Rizwan from ISI and give him command, but I got reports that he was constantly interfering in politics. Two or three times his actions were reported and some of them had corruption issues. Thus he was dismissed,” he elaborated.
He stated that Asim Bajwa asked for forgiveness, therefore he was forgiven and given Southern Command. He added that incumbent COAS Asim Munir often said that Bajwa forgave people, but he [Gen Munir] did not forgive anyone.
Hafiz Munir does not forgive anyone, Bajwa tells us. Looks like a coup material. Pak army H&D will be restored hopefully.
WTF? This is unprecedented. A former Pak COAS is saying one of the major Pak army anti terror operation spanning 3 years was FAKEBajwa said that Asim Bajwa had placed Raheel Sharif on the verge of becoming a hero, although not a single bullet was fired in Zarb-e-Azb.
“Then General Raheel Sharif started a campaign against corruption. After the Panama Papers emerged, I was also under pressure because of this campaign”.

Yawn - IHC approached for criminal case against Gen Bajwa
A petition has been filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking registration of a criminal case against former army chief retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, ex-director general Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Faiz Hameed and two journalists for making certain revelations in an interview of the ex-army chief.
The registrar office of the IHC, however, raised objections on the petition and asked the petitioner to first approach the appropriate forum. # get clearance from Mooneer ?
The petition said the revelations made in the interview were a violation of the Official Secret Act and tantamount to inciting mutiny and disharmony. Besides, it also sought directions to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to impose a ban on these two journalists.

Yawn - Pilots fleeing Pakistan due to major pay cuts, Senate body told
The Senate Standing Committee on Aviation was on Thursday informed that a significant number of pilots have recently fled the country as a result of major salary cuts in the form of high taxes.
The committee inquired as to why the foreign airlines were not permitting passengers to purchase tickets in rupees. Mr Murtaza stated that passengers were buying foreign airlines’ tickets from remote locations using VPN or some other means and it costs relatively less than the tickets bought in Pakistan.
The committee also discussed the cancellation of licences of PIA pilots. The committee was told that 141 pilot licences were declared suspected by the CAA. The breakup showed that 18 pilots were not PIA employees while 18 were terminated from service upon suspension/cancellation of licences by CAA, 16 were deceased and separated , two pilots were on stay order whose decision was pending and the remaining 87 were cleared by CAA afterwards.
The matter related to PIA employees appointed on fake degrees was also taken up. The PIA chief said that individuals charged with having fake degrees had been penalised with termination; however, the Senate special committee on affected employees restored the appointment of the employees.
