Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Music trends in the west are largely shaped by marketing and distribution. Inherently great music may never become popular and superficial junk can become hugely successful, and create global stars with artificial tailor made personas resulting in millions of swooning fans.
I too think Natu Natu is a mediocre song. Not bad, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Just shows what a credible recogintion Oscars are.

Re: Naatu Naatu, in my opinion its quality as a song is not relevant. This is the 2020s. To be a meme phenomenon is a thing. This is a song that for all its supposed mediocrity, the Japanese mango people, the Korean and German embassies amongst a host of others, are enjoying themselves to.
Look, 'Gangnam Style' is a mediocre parody - those who already knew PSY well back then said they were a little confused and embarrassed at its popularity. But it was wildly popular for its beat and dance move, and it's absolutely in our interest to see Naatu Naatu growing into a broad cultural phenomenon. It's not really just a song anymore.

Yep, we too can market, lobby and win awards on the global stage, and make money. Why not ?

The 2022 World Championships bronze medallists scripted a sensational comeback after an opening game reversal to edge past the Malaysian combination of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 16-21, 21-17, 21-19 in a nail-biting final to accomplish a magnificent victory in the continental championship.
Khanna is the only Indian to claim the gold medal, having achieved the feat when he beat Thailand's Sangob Rattanusorn in the men's singles final in 1965 at Lucknow.
India's previous best performance in the men's doubles at the Asia Championships was a bronze-medal finish by Dipu Ghosh and Raman Ghosh in 1971.
Satwik and Chirag, who claimed the Swiss Open Super 300 title in Basel, showed tremendous grit as they never gave up after losing the first game and being 7-13 and 11-15 in the second and third game to secure the first gold for India in doubles.
It was the second title of the season for Satwik and Chirag, who continued to remain the best shuttlers for the country on display this season.
Besides the Asia Championships title, Satwik and Chirag also won the 2022 Commonwealth Games and five career titles on the BWF World Tour.
The two pairs came into the summit clash after sharing the honours in six meetings, with Satwik and Chirag coming up trumps in the semi-final of the Swiss Open in March this year.
Satwik, 22, from Amalapuram and Mumbai-born Chirag, 25, were relentless in their attack, sending down the shuttle at stiff angles and at a good speed, while Ong and Teo were rock solid in their defence.
There was little to separate the two pairs as the opening game started on an even note.
From 1-1 to 10-10, the two moved neck and neck before a hurried shot at the net by Chirag gave the Malaysians a one-point lead at the break.
The Malaysian duo ran up a series of points to quickly eke out a commanding five-point lead at 18-13. Chirag broke the run but Ong and Teo grabbed six game points when Satwik went long.
The Indians saved two before the Malaysians won an exciting rally with Teo diving twice to keep the shuttle in play to earn the bragging rights.
After the change of ends, Ong and Teo continued their impressive run, moving to 6-2 early on before zooming to 10-4.
The Malaysians were relentless in their approach as Satwik and Chirag failed to match up to their rivals, allowing the Malaysians to enter the mid-game break with a 11-6 lead.
Ong and Tea maintained a five-point lead at 13-8 before the Indian pair scripted a recovery. Satwik produced a backhand kill followed by a net error from Teo, who also sent the shuttler out, as soon the tables turned.
The Indians were 18-15 up as errors crept into the Malaysians game. Satwik and Chirag earned three game points and converted it on the first chance with Teo committing an error at the net.
The decider started with the two pairs trading blows. Ong and Teo showed great technical acumen as they slowly eked out a three-point lead at 8-5.
With Chirag spraying his smash into the net and following it up with another, the Malaysians grabbed an 11-8 lead at the break.
The opponents injected power and produced a few body shots to open up a 14-10 lead.
The Indians narrowed it down to 14-15 with Chirag dominating a fast exchange before drawing level. Following a net error from Ong, Satwik and Chirag went 17-16 up.
Ong then sent one wide as the Indians moved to 18-16. A great interception from the Malaysians was followed by a precise return from Chirag as it was 19-17 in India's favour.
A booming smash from the back from Chirag took India to three championship points. They squandered two before Satwik unleashed a body smash at Teo as Chirag lay flat on the court and Satwik broke into a celebratory dance.
Before this final, India had won one gold and 17 bronze medals in different categories at the continental Championships since 1962.

HS Prannoy has won the Malaysia masters 500 event.
First for him.
He has been playing well for some months now but lacks endurance to go all the way.
Srikanth has been a total disappointment and Womens singles has become too competitive for Sindhu.
Priyanshu Rajawat looks like a very good future prospect for India in Mens singles if groomed and trained well.

Overlooked No More: Sultan Khan, Untrained Chess Player Who Became a Champion
(I am familiar and have studied many of his games - and some of them are among my most favorite). There were no official rankings when Khan played, but according to Chess Metrics, a widely respected website that has compiled retroactive rankings going back more than 200 years, he was No. 6 or No. 7 in the world over the last two years of his chess-playing career. Hooper and Whyld surmised that Khan overcame his lack of knowledge about openings because he was among the best players in the world in the middle-game phase and among the top two or three players in the endgame phase, along with Capablanca.

Hockey Junior Asia Cup 2023 Final: India create history, edge past Pakistan to become most successful team.
The Indian Hockey Men's Junior Team on Thursday created history as they edged past arch rivals Pakistan in a thrilling finale of the Hockey Junior Asia Cup 2023 at Salalah Sports Complex in Oman. Uttam Singh's team emerged victorious by a close margin of 2-1 as Indian goalkeeper Mohith made some stellar saves in the latter half of the game to keep Pakistan at bay. With the win, India have become the most successful team in the history of the tournament.
For India, Angad Bir Singh and Hundal Araijeet Singh scored the goals, whereas it was Basharat Ali, who pulled one back for Pakistan and kept their hopes alive. The Men in Blue opened the scoresheets with a field goal by Angad, who slapped the ball from the far post in the 15th minute. Hundal then doubled India’s lead after Angad provided the assistance.
But Pakistan fought back and they attacked to find an opening. India remained 2-0 up after the first half. But things spiced a bit when Basharat converted one for Pakistan with the help from a crossfield shot from Abdul Shahid. Pakistan put their foot on the gas in the dying stages of the game and kept attacking but Mohith was fabulous with the saves and he kept India’s lead intact.
India have now become the Hockey Asia Junior champions for the record 4th time and are the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Pakistan have 3 titles.
Both India and Pakistan were dominant in the tournament. They have thrashed the opposition sides. Interestingly, both the arch-rivals were drawn in the same Pool A. India defeated Chinese Taipei in their first encounter by 18-0, before beating Japan by 3-1. India and Pakistan then played a 1-1 stalemate, before India thrashed Thailand by 17-0.
The Defending champions then defeated the Republic of Korea by 9-1 in the semifinal.
Dominating show by India. Won the tournament without losing a single game. In all scored 50 goals while conceding only 3 against its opponents.

Asia Cup 2023: India clinches maiden Women's Junior title, defeats Korea by 2-1.
The Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team achieved a remarkable triumph in the Women's Junior Asia Cup 2023, which took place in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. They secured the championship title by defeating Korea in a captivating final match on Sunday, with a score of 2-1.
Although Annu (at 22 minutes) and Neelam (at 41 minutes) contributed one goal each for India, it was the combined efforts of the entire team that ultimately paved the way for their victorious outcome in this crucial encounter.
In a remarkable feat, the Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team has achieved their first-ever victory in the Women's Junior Asia Cup, marking a historic milestone. Their exceptional performance throughout the prestigious tournament, remaining undefeated, has earned them a coveted spot in the FIH Women's Junior World Cup 2023, to be held in Chile. Recognizing their outstanding achievement, the Hockey India Executive Board proudly announced a cash prize of ₹2 Lakh for each player, symbolizing their appreciation for the team's efforts. Additionally, the support staff will be rewarded with INR 1 Lakh each as a token of acknowledgment.
India started with an attacking approach, but couldn't capitalize on an early penalty corner. Korea shifted momentum with counter-attacks and possession. Neelam's goal-line clearance denied Korea a lead. The first quarter ended goalless. Korea maintained their attacking style in the second quarter, while India defended well. India took the lead through Annu (22') but Seoyeon Park (25') equalized. The score was 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Korea focused on possession while India counter-attacked. Neelam (41') converted a penalty corner, making it 2-1. India defended in the fourth quarter, while Korea made errors. India won the match 2-1, sticking to their strategy.
“Following a 1-1 draw in the round-robin stage, we were acutely aware of the specific areas we needed to excel in order to overcome Korea. The Final match brought about a considerable amount of nerves. However, we knew that as a team we have to play our best game to achieve something special and that's exactly what we did. We are elated to make our nation proud," Indian Junior Women's Team Captain Preeti said.
“We are filled with immense pride as the Indian Junior Women's team clinched their maiden Junior Asia Cup, leaving us all in awe. Their exceptional display of talent and determination has been truly promising. This triumph has solidified their status as a dominant force in the field, and I firmly believe it will serve as a strong foundation for their upcoming challenge at the Junior World Cup later this year. To recognize their outstanding achievement, Hockey India has decided to honour the players with a well-deserved cash award. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the team and the dedicated support staff for their unwavering efforts in bringing glory to our nation," Hockey India President Padma Dr Dilip Tirkey said.

India's crack doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty fought hard to advance to the final, but it was curtains for HS Prannoy in the men's singles semifinals of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 badminton event, in Jakarta on Saturday.
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist duo of Satwik and Chirag, seeded seventh, overcame a one-game deficit to beat unseeded Min Hyuk Kang and Seung Jae Seo of Korea 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 to seal their maiden Super-1000 final berth.
"We feel really good the way we played today. They made a comeback in the third game but we stuck till the end and I am happy that we didn't run away from our tactics. We stuck to it till the very end. First time we are in a Super 1000 final and so it feels good," Chirag said after the win.
"They (Koreans) too have a really strong defence, so it was sort of a attack vs defence game. You just can't blindly attack them. We were mixing it up."
Asked about Sunday's final, Satwik said: "It's a new day, get back and recover our body first. I was not feeling 100 per cent in the first game. Slowly I got my rhythm in the second game."
The win also extended their overall head-to-head record over Kang and Seo to 3-2.
The World No. 6 pair will now face the winners of the match between Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan of Indonesia and second seeds Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh of Malaysia.
The men's doubles began on an even keel before the Korean pair surged ahead to 6-3 in the opening game.
Once they conceded the lead, Satwik and Chirag were forced to play a catch-up game.
The Indians used their aggressive play to reduce the margin to 15-19 and then 17-20 before Kang and Seo kept their composure to pocket the first game, courtesy an unforced error.
The Indians looked more purposeful after the change of ends and took an early 6-3 lead before racing to 11-4 with a flurry of fast paced shots and body smashes in the second game.
Satwik and Chirag were also helped by some bad line calls and unforced errors from the Koreans.
But Kang and Seo didn't give up and clawed their way back in the game to reduce the gap to 18-15.
But the Indians managed to hold on to their nerves and played sensibly to pocket the second game and level the scores.
The first first five points was closely fought before Satwik and Chirag pocketed seven straight points to race to 12-5 lead.
The Koreans tried hard to bounce back and at one time levelled the scores at 16-16 but that is when Satwik and Chirag upped the ante and closed out the game and the match.
Prannoy knocked out by Axelsen
However, Prannoy failed to rise to the occasion against top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, going down 15-21, 15-21 in straight games.
'Semifinals exit here at the Indonesia open 2023! GG @ViktorAxelsen. Gutted that I couldn’t control the drift for most part of the game tonight. But another great week of badminton with some solid wins. And thank you Istora for one last time. I will be back soon,' Prannoy tweeted after being ousted.
Prannoy was forced to play catch up game from the onset and was never really in for a fight. He showed sparks of brilliance in between, riding on his cross court smashes but Axelsen's drop shots and court coverage was good enough to help him take a decisive lead in both games.
The script unfolded in the same manner in the both games as Axelsen continued to maintain his upper-hand and pocket the game and match in identical manner.
It was Prannoy's sixth loss against the Dane in the international circuit as against two wins.
The BWF World Tour is divided into six levels, namely World Tour Finals, four Super 1000, six Super 750, seven Super 500, and 11 Super 300 in order. One other category of tournament, the BWF Tour Super 100 level, also offers ranking points.
Each of these tournaments offers different ranking points and prize money. The highest points and prize pool is offered at the Super 1000 level.

Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Since this is an entertainment thread OR 'dookh-darshan' when it comes to bollywood and movies coming from bollywood "as entertainment", putting this from Swarajyamag:
https://swarajyamag.com/culture/future- ... -adipurush
I am glad that adipurush is failing. Here are the reasons:
1. Bollywood does not know its ar$3 from its head
2. The actors are clueless. The director is clueless. The producer is clueless. The investors in that movie are clueless. That is a charitable explanation. I am clueless on why they are clueless.
3. The dialogue writer did us actually a favor. Think about it, looking at the actors and the director, giving them a good dialogue will be a wasted effort. If the movie is anyway sinking, take money and put some more stones in it. It will sink faster and the pain will be short lived.
PS: I do have some good movie plots to produce. And put out movies that really matter. Any takers?

Looking forward to all big-ticket movies from bollywood being a failure. It is saving me money. I watched the first visuals of Kantara, told the family that it will be a big hit, drag'ed them to a kannada movie (no, I am not at all fluent in kannada) and told others to go and watch it. Predicted that it will be a big hit. It indeed was (my own plug here). In a scene from the highly anticipated Bollywood film Adipurush that hit the screens yesterday, when Lord Hanuman enters Lanka as a messenger of Lord Ram, Meghnad sets his tail on fire and taunts him, “Jali na?”.
This utterance may ring a familiar bell for readers, reminiscent of a highly memefied line from 2004 romantic comedy Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, where Akshay Kumar similarly ridicules Salman Khan — “Jali na, teri bhi jali na?”
Future Of Bollywood After The Disaster That Is Adipurush
In response to Meghnad’s jibe, Hanuman retorts with a fiery comeback, “Kapda tere baap ka. Tel tere baap ka. Aag tere baap ki. Jalegi bhi tere baap ki”.
PS: I do have some good movie plots to produce. And put out movies that really matter. Any takers?

Indonesia Open: India's Satwik, Chirag bag historic doubles title.
India's dynamic duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty scripted history by winning the men's doubles title at the Indonesia Open here on Sunday, becoming the first pair from the country to claim a Super 1000 event.
The Indians outwitted the Malaysian world champion duo of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 21-17, 21-18 in an intense contest that lasted 43 minutes.
"We had prepared very well for this event. We knew the crowd will be supporting us. They have supported us all week. This has been amazing week for us. We played amazing badminton today. We didn't have good head-to-head record against them, so wanted to play one point at a time and it fetched the result for us," said Satwiksairaj after the match.
Satwiksairaj and Chirag gained initiative midway through the first game and they never really gave a sniff to their fancied opponents since then.
In the second game as well, the Indian pair did not allow their opponents to break free and a four-point streak kept them ahead of the curve.
The Indians seemed to be in for a facile victory when the Malaysians nullified four match points to come within sniffing distance of their opponents.
However, Satwiksairaj and Chirag, the world No. 6 pair, who won a gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and bronze at the world championships last year, could not be denied when the score read 20-18 in their favour, and this time they converted the match point to script a magnificent win.
The magnitude of the result can be gauged from the fact that this was the first time Satwiksairaj and Chirag are beating Aaron and Soh in 11 attempts.
In fact, the triumph of Satwiksairaj and Chirag in the Indonesia Open is quite unparalleled as they are the first doubles Indian doubles pair to land the title while Saina Nehwal (2010, 2012) and Kidambi Srikanth (2017) had earlier bagged the singles crown in Jakarta.
The Indian pair is the first doubles team from the country to clinch a Super 1000 title while they also stand as the first ones to win the set of S100, S300, S500, S750 and S1000 events from the country.
Earlier, the 2022 world championships bronze medallists had become the first ever Indian pair to reach the final of any Super 1000 tournament after a sensational comeback to get the better of the Korean combination of Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae 17-21, 21-19 21-18 in a thrilling semi-final.
The Indians, who were also Asian champions, defeated the current world champions in less than an hour.
Chirag was outstanding at the net with his speedy interceptions and defence, and was one of the main reasons behind the Indian pair pulling off the match.

Each of these tournaments offers different ranking points and prize money. The Super 1000 level provides the highest number of ranking points and offers the most significant prize pool among all the tiers.
This triumph at the Indonesia Open adds to the Indian duo's already impressive collection of titles, which includes a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, a gold medal at the Thomas Cup, a bronze medal at the World Championships, and wins at the Super 300 (Syed Modi), Super 500 (Thailand and India Open), and Super 750 (French Open) tournaments.

Bhavani Devi becomes first Indian fencer to win medal in Asian Champiosnhip, finishes with Bronze
Olympian Bhavani Devi on Monday scripted history becoming the first Indian fencer to secure a Asian Championships medal. The 29-year-old settled for a bronze after losing in the semi-final of women's sabre event at the Asian Fencing Championships in Wuxi, China.
Bhavani lost to Uzbekistan's Zaynab Dayibekova 14-15 in a hardfought semis.
Earlier, stunning the reigning world champion Misaki Emura of Japan 15-10 in the quarters, Bhavani assured India's maiden medal at the event.Misaki had won the women's sabre gold medal at the 2022 World Fencing Championships held in Cairo.

Saar this is just the latest idiocy in a long line of foolishness in that is a hallmark of this movie. The special effects are so amateurish that saas bahu serials have better quality and believable ones. is an actual dialog. Raavan is continuously insulted as if he is a Hindi film villain when even Lord Ram treated him with respect due. Saif Ali Khan,s get up is more like that of a Afghani Pathan…kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka, jalegi bhi tere baap ki
This is a brazen attempt to get audience into seats that is fed up of the usual bhaiwood fare…

The name of the upcoming event is officially called the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. It was originally slated to be held last year but was postponed due to COVID-19.

Satwik 'smashes' Guinness world record with fastest badminton hit
Star Indian shuttler Satwiksairaj Rankireddy has accomplished a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest hit by a male player in badminton.
With an astonishing smash clocking at 565 km/h, Satwik has surpassed the previous record held by Malaysian Tan Boon Heong since May 2013, who recorded a speed of 493 km/h (306.34 mph).
The world record attempts were achieved on April 14, 2023, and were verified by official judges from the Guinness world records based on the speed measurement results from that day.
Satwik's smash was conducted in a controlled environment at the Yonex factory gymnasium in Soka, Saitama, Japan.

Major news. GOI has withdrawn from wushu from world university games Chengdu over stapled visas
The coach and athletes should have not even attempted to travel since their visas were stapled.India withdrew its entire wushu team from the World University Games in Chengdu as a form of protest against China's decision, to issue stapled visas instead of stamped ones, to three athletes from Arunachal Pradesh.
The decision to withdraw the team came after airport authorities in New Delhi prevented an eight-member contingent, including five athletes, a coach, and two support staff, from boarding the flight just minutes before departure on Thursday (27 July) midnight, as shared by coach Raghvendra Singh in reports.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
Superb performance by Indian archers in the world championships. 2 golds today itself.
Re: Indian Sports and Entertainment Industry
One cannot blame them if the GoI is taking it easy. In fact, GoI needs to impose a ban on any sports participation in China while stapled visas are a thing. Since doing otherwise means that the GoI is discriminating against its own citizens by offering more opportunities to some than others.
