Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
China developing a new drone carrier -- is this something India should look at too?
Maybe navalized descendants of Ghatak UCAV could be flown off such mini-carriers, reducing operational costs.

https://x.com/KesariDhwaj/status/1796432260520169804 ---> Frankly, we don't need to be worried about 6 x J-20s. Why you ask?
Simply because we need to be worried about the WHOLE Chinese Air Force (PLAAF). The Chinese will throw the sink and everything else at us when the shooting match starts. Their combined military power across air and rockets forces is many times that of ours. We need to pull-up our socks NOW and go on a massive rearmament program across the board to ensure we close the gap as much as possible over next 3-5 years.
Remember, Taiwan might be China's first priority, but China will move militarily against Indian once it has covered all bases against us. Its infra is yet not up to speed to ensure 100% victory over India (especially in Eastern Ladakh) and its force distribution is also not balanced (as of today). It will plug these gaps over next 2-3 years and then, all bets are off. A short, sharp and intense 1962 style operation is a matter of when, and not if.

Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
Saar, no amount of fighters (big or small and foreign or domestic) is going to make a dent against the PLAAF.
The Chinese will always have a larger fleet and as time passes, their qualitative edge will also get progressively better.
The only questions that remains to be answered is ---> how much pain are the Chinese willing to absorb in order the teach India a lesson? And do our Armed Forces have the means to deliver that pain?

Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
Is it possible that China itself might have a two front war? On the Himalayas and on the pacific? Imho pain should be delivered on both sides.

Looking ahead, J-20 deliveries are expected to approach nearly 100 units in 2024 and rise to 120 in 2025. This would make its delivery rate over 250% higher than that of the F-35 for the U.S. Air Force.

Do we need a "1000-Tejas" plan for numeric parity with the PLAAF and deliver 100/year for 10 years?
Switch production from MK1 to MK1A to MK2 as designs stabilize
I wonder it's a question of money? Or spend spread & optimization? The GoI can easily mandate 3-4 billion dollars a year for 10 years.

Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
The money will be spent in the local ecosystem in INR and will create about a million jobs as well
Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
Saar, forget 1,000 Tejas even the 420 Tejas on plan now (40 Mk1 + 83 Mk1A + 97 Mk1A + 200 Mk2s) is on rocky ground. GE is churning out 20 F404s per year. And even if that number is matched to increase the annual production of 100 Tejas for 10 years, the turbofan is American in origin.titash wrote: ↑27 Jun 2024 01:02 Do we need a "1000-Tejas" plan for numeric parity with the PLAAF and deliver 100/year for 10 years?

What needs to be done is to get the Kaveri tested and certified. Once that is complete, then move to production. Till then, any amount of Tejas (420, 1000 or whatever else) will always be under the Damocles sword.
The stumbling block to large scale Tejas induction is the turbofan. And if there is anything that the war in Ukraine has taught us, is that America just cannot be relied upon.
You can always rely on China to be India's enemy.
You can never rely on America to be India's friend.
Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
Wait till the dry thrust variant of the Kaveri is mounted onto the Ghatak UCAV. That is the "short-term" gamechanger right there. Also CATS Warrior. The "long-term" gamechanger is the AMCA Mk2, with an indigenous turbofan.
UCAVs will also address squadron shortage to a measurable extent and reduce pilot losses during conflict. There will be a serious rethink on how air power is executed, once UCAVs start entering service in India. The key though - with UCAVs - is large scale inductions. The "1,000 focus" should be on UCAVs and not on manned aircraft. Manned squadrons are important, but the 42 number will undergo a change.
P.S. Best part of Ghatak is the dry thrust variant of the Kaveri turbofan.
It is OUR turbofan. We can do whatever we want with it.

Buying lots of planes is one thing …
Maintaining them, keeping them relevant, and crewing them is something else … a big burden to bear for decades

Re: Chinese Armed Forces: News & Discussion
And China is quite capable of doing that considering that they have built an entire MIC ecosystem and only need to use their reminibis to maintain the system. Despite the aging problem and shrinking population, China has enough workers to keep it going for the next several decades.

Not to forget that years ago China had converted a whole bunch of old obsolete MiGs into unmanned drones... while we use ours to decorate college campuses
Now those might have been crude kamikaze style ones but they have their uses (confusing, overwhelming, thinning, air defenses).
The chinese have learnt a lot about drone tech in the past decade. When the time comes to convert these 'lot of planes', it is a safer bet that they will be make them much more capable and a bigger headache to counter.

Chinese will push any country regardless of the weaponry they have, until they've been given a bloody nose...like we gave them in Galwan. Unacceptable loss of personnel & equipment and bad PR is the only thing that can deter China.
If the Chinese were really bothered about the Brahmos missiles with the Philippines, they wouldn't have been bullying the Philippines. Inspite of having a missile like the Brahmos, by allowing the Chinese to board their vessel and steal their weapons the Philippines have shown weakness to the Chinese. So regardless of how many Brahmos batteries Philippines buys, the Chinese will still bully them.drnayar wrote: ↑24 Jul 2024 22:31A brahmos is just overkill for the Chinese coast guard ships terrorising filipino waters..it will just blast them to oblivionbala wrote: ↑12 Jul 2024 07:30 This YT is claiming that Philippines wants more Brahmos missile batteries from India. Would be newsworthy if Philippines sinks one or two of China's ship in Pacific Ocean with Brahmos missiles.
