Debated whether this belongs in the India-US thread or here. The US Supreme Court legalized bribing government officials long as the bribe happens after an official act in favor, not before. This likely creates a trap for Indian public officials too, as any number of US persons or multinationals will now be all too willing to bestow financial rewards following a favorable action.
The Supreme Court overturned the bribery conviction of a former Indiana mayor on Wednesday, the latest in a series of decisions narrowing the scope of federal public corruption law.

The high court's 6-3 opinion along ideological lines found the law criminalizes bribes given before an official act, not rewards handed out after.
Thanks for highlighting this. The implications are quite huge.

Might be the same in India?

May I ask who's leading the power behind the scenes.
I think in one of the interveiws Vivek Ramaswami has raised this question as to who is leading the country after first Debate disaster.
I know its wrong thread but given its relevance (i feel its relevant for this discussion) Auma Obama is leading the revolt against the government in Kenya!
Is the ex-President still a part of the inner group!!!
There's Soros, Ford Foundation and Bill Gates and the history of Regime Change attmepts i.e., V Nuland.
And appointment of Garcetti!!
Hindenburg
email login for supplied to X-person by the MP's
All this makes a good material for a Luddlum type Parsifal Mosiac book No!!!

The current power behind the scenes is Clinton-Obama-Pelosi.

Take the case of Gar$hitty. US Ambassador to India. Ambassadors to any country from US is not a 'technical' posting. India uses babus from the IFS as ambassadors. In US Ambassadors to other nations are in lieu of political favours.

Gar$hitty helped Bomb-baba, Clintonite and Biden in their presidential race. Big help and the net result was Gar$hitty getting a sojourn to India. He is happy, since he can partake in an exotic culture, have chai and mango lassie and do bollywood production. Tour India for free. Most of the work is done anyway by the Nuland types under him.

To say that Gar$hitty will influence India-US relation for better is a stretch. That thinking is as old as 1776. And useless.

Coming to the current power, it is Clinton-Obama-Pelosi. One should look at videos of Obama leading away Biden in Dem rallies. Those few minutes says it all.

So who will replace Biden and how?

1. In September, in the Democrat National Convention (DNC), they will throw open president nomination. So delegates will push for their candidate.

2. The current list in circulation (see forbes for example https://www.forbes.com/sites/saradorn/2 ... and-down/ )

Kamala Haris
Gavin Newsom
Gretchen Whitmer

There will be others who do not have much name recall within the Democrats and will be considered by Media.

So who will get the nomination? My bet is on Michelle Obama. Either as a VP with Harris elevated to Prez or Harris pushed out of Prez race and maybe as a sore VP and Michelled will be dropped in.

Since all media is talking about other potential candidates and do not mention Michelle or mention her in passing.

Dotty Kamala Harris could not even run her campaign properly. She has no money and neither the Silicon Valley nor Wall Street will bankroll her.

Gavin Newsom can have the silicon valley and some wall street bankroll him. After all he is the adapted nephew of Pelosi. Yeah, check it out. Pelosi can get delegates behind her nephew and she is very powerful. She challenged Xi from Indian soil, that takes some chutzpah.

But beyond California, rest of US main-street know what corrupt Gavin has done to California (it is being raped). I would love to see him run for prez, only to lose.

Gretchen Whitmer has no name recall other than from Media. And she is white female. Something which the regressive support base in Democrats do not want.

The one who fits the bill is Michelle Obama. Articulate, wife of ex-president, black, has money power and can rally the regressives and the female vote. Pelosi will be on board here too. Trump has no-one to fight against her other than Tulsi.

So come Sept., Biden will be replaced. Most likely Michelle. Then you know for sure who the power structure behind Michelle is. That is C-O-P.

A note: One has to give to Pelosi. She is a real playmaster.

WATCH:
A Russian prankster named @evilprank is claiming that he just pranked @HillaryClinton by pretending to be Petro Poroshenko, the former President of Ukraine.

In the recorded call below, which has still not been authenticated, the prankster appears to be talking to Clinton about “Russian assets” and getting dirt on President Trump ahead of the Election who Clinton calls “a very very bad guy” during the call.

When the pranksters tell Clinton they want to dig up dirt on Trump to interfere in the election, Clinton said “good, anything you can do, attack him. I’m all for it.”

If this prank is real, this is very bad for @HillaryClinton. Pretty sure this is what Democrats accused President Trump of doing with Ukraine, and even impeached him over during his first term

Hillar Clinton has no official position. Trump tried putting pressure on Ukraine as President of the US. Of course, with the latest Supreme Court ruling, the US President is above the law.

Lastly, what is the relevance to India of Hillary Clinton, no longer in public life? I expect moderator to be evenhanded, like Om Birla.

^ Given the above, how do we understand US and how will it impact India. Just like US has India watch including visa banning services and meeting hurrirats while talking about masala chai, should not India have US watch?

Infact, India should have world watch.

I checked the US SC judgement. There is no blanket immunity as such—immunity for official acts. Even then, US Congress can impeach him and the Senate can then prosecute him.

The allegations by Dems on DT need more careful examination. Like other communist parties, Dems might have made all these things will little to no proof. Remember Trump was a supposed Russian agent etc and yet in the last 4 years Biden administration did not try to prosecute him for Treason. All kinds of idiotic cases but no Treason? Even in those cases because of this immunity judgment lot of evidence will now become inadmissible as it may be viewed as official work.

Look, I'm sorry to labour the point, but whether or not Biden returns to office is indeed of key relevance to India.

I know I don't want him to come back - do you want him to come back?

This latest Cold War 2.0 that has come back with a vengeance is harming Indo-US ties. It's no mere coincidence.
Our current problems with the US are very reminiscent of the previous problems with had with US back during Cold War 1.0
Pak is of course gleeful about this, but we should not be.

The Senile figurehead puppet-on-throne President Dhritarashtra is a key reason why this new Cold War 2.0 is happening.
Under his blind gaze, all his Kaurava clan are all running amok, sewing chaos and misery across the landscape.

In order for Indo-US ties to return to a better path, we should want Trump to come back. Things were much better between us when he was in office.

sanman, thanks for the explanation and appreciate your view on this.

Not just addresss to you, but addressing others also who has preferences to some political groupings, here are some things that would help us all get a good idea

1) why is Trump good for India? During the last term he has been indulging in boorish behaviour towards India despite PM Modi going to far extents to make him happy? His comments about Harley vs Mangoes, India’s vaccine priority etc are petty and India don’t have to coddle him anymore. His tightening of H1B/GC processing to a snail pace (affected Indian businesses and PIO families a lot) and the whole BS around Doha talks, which was the initiator for the Taliban and other Pashtun factions takeover of Afghanistan. His SD was never openly pro-India when it came to china as he was more interested in his own trade wars.

(Indian foreign office deftly converted Trump initiated crisis by converting the new Kabul govt from Taliban to a Pashtun-centric one and made that General Faiz with his tea look silly, but no thanks to Trump. Trump did zero consulting with India despite requests).

2) Why should Biden be an issue for India? Till now, his rule has been pretty neutral towards India other than jibes about democratic backsliding etc, any internal issues the Americans have about his age, migration etc is not of interest to us. He has been pumping up LRASM numbers in Indo-PAC, turning a blind eye on Russian oil refining, subtly snubbing Trudeau’s version of Indian wet-ops etc but at same time twiddling his thumbs during Galwan or SCS issues. So mixed bag, but claiming he is terrible for India is not backed by facts.

3) Democrat vs Republicans: which party allows PIOs to rise high? Currently it is Republicans with two past Governors and current two POTUS candidates. The Democrats have stopped caring about PIO interests at some point of Obama Administration and seem to go only for their money/votes while giving prominence to identity politics centering around blacks, sexual outliers and islamists. This is in sharp contrast to 15 years back when Republicans were using EJs to channel vote banks using communalism and Indians/dharmics got short end of the stick. Neither Biden nor Trump cares two squeaky hoots for PIO interests. So why should this forum need to listen to partisan claptrap from either sides?

So from an Indian PoV, shouldn’t these sort of points be relevant than why two very rich and old white men are attractive because they are not senile or not snarky? The abuse of power against a political opponent is good only for talking points when putting down some gora when they wag a finger at India, not for this forum. But PIO or Indian interests are not served if one blindly sign away wealth and votes to either side

Hope we can have some threads and discussions on those lines!

I’m also of the opinion that of the 2 evils, Trump is the lesser one as far as India is concerned. This stems from 2 reasons. First, Trump is more isolationist and goading the rest of NATO to contribute towards the overall MIC of the West. This is beneficial to India in 2 ways, with the less interventionist policies, India can quietly continue with its mantel of the Leader of the Global South, and work towards the improvement of the lot including India. The other, no chance for Pakis to get on any gravy train by promising collaboration against the Commies. Second, Trump will not toe the Islamist line and will probably look for opportunities to kick them in the nuts, whereas one can see the alternative.

I have a slightly different take. Trump is a corrupt, narcissistic, senile person who is not fit to lead a row boat let alone a government. He is where he is purely due to his fathers wealth and utter lack of ethics to screw people over for the slightest advantage. He is the absolute worst for the US.

It also means the US will be constantly lurching from one domestic crisis to the other and will be too busy in these to interfere in Indian matters. And thats why cynically he is the better option.

Trump was more sincerely interesting in pushing back against the rise of China as his main foreign policy priority, and this gave India more importance.
2) Why should Biden be an issue for India? Till now, his rule has been pretty neutral towards India other than jibes about democratic backsliding etc, any internal issues the Americans have about his age, migration etc is not of interest to us. Biden is senile -- a hollow vessel into which others insert their thoughts and agendas -- he's entirely programmable by his coterie.

NeoCons -- the same ones who brazenly illegally invaded Iraq -- are present in both political parties, and are firmly embedded in the Whitehouse, carrying out an agenda of aggressive assertive imperialism to re-draw the international order to "make the world safe for Israel". These NeoCons first emerged in the wake of the catastrophic collapse of BJ Clinton & Madeleine Notbright's failed Oslo "peace process" which resulted in unprecedented violence between Israelis and Palestinians. When the 9/11 attacks occurred, the NeoCons used this as an opportunity to launch their imperialist campaign. They quickly withdrew US forces from Afghanistan in 2003 ("Mission Accomplished") and immediately ran to declare war on Iraq to kill Saddam Hussein(again, "making the world safe for Israel"). Then under Obama they used protests in Egypt's Tahrir Square to stir up Arab Spring to further re-draw Middle East, using it as a cover to overthrow Libya's Qadafi and kill him(again, "making the world safe for Israel"). They also immediately launched an insurgency campaign to destabilize Syria to overthrow Assad(again, "to make the world safe for Israel") -- but Putin got in their way when he deployed the Russian military to save his valued Syrian client.

This then put Putin/Russia in the crosshairs of the hyper-aggressive NeoCons, who immediately started hammering on the sensitive fault-line of Ukraine. And that's why we now have Russia-Ukraine war and a new Cold War, and this is now posing serious danger to India, putting us under serious pressure from a hard-charging cabal in the Whitehouse. Look at that a-hole Garcetti increasingly uttering ominous threats to India. He was Biden's hand-picked appointee.

It's worth mentioning that during that Arab Spring period, USA brought forth their man Kejriwal to spread that Arab Spring to India. To these Washington elites, we're just a different shade of sand-n!gger. There are plenty of Israelis who see us Indians as fellow allies opposing jihadis. The NeoCons do not think that way - to them, we're just another kind of backward nonWestern savage. They don't give a crap about "world's largest democracy" -- they just care about bringing us to heel, along with all the other sand-n!ggers. That's why their crooked sepoy Kejriwal was trying to demolish the checks and balances of the Indian constitution to replace it with his Lokpal rubbish.

It's because Indian govt has dared to arrest America's "Man in Havana (New Delhi)" that Obama has been spewing denunciations against "autocrat" Modi.
Neither Biden nor Trump cares two squeaky hoots for PIO interests. So why should this forum need to listen to partisan claptrap from either sides?
They're politicians, they only care about their own interests. But Trump's and Republican's nationalism contrasts with Democrat trans-nationalist globalist imperialism and vote-bank-ism.
Nations can serve as platforms of accountability, and have constitutions (at least the decent ones do).
This globalism stuff is just imperialism under a new guise, which seeks to dismantle nations and weaken their constitutions, and replace accountability with cronyism and remote control.
So from an Indian PoV, shouldn’t these sort of points be relevant than why two very rich and old white men are attractive because they are not senile or not snarky? The abuse of power against a political opponent is good only for talking points when putting down some gora when they wag a finger at India, not for this forum. I'm not presenting Trump as a saint. I'm saying that his self-interest is less at odds with India's interests, as compared to Biden and his crooked NeoCon Globalist imperialist coterie.

That being said, I'm worried that Trump may not move quickly enough to wind down the Ukraine war.
But I hope that he at least corrals the Deep State, and downsizes their dangerous cesspool apparatus.

Trump's personal vices are less problematic than the dangerous ideological recklessness of Biden and his Democrats, which coupled with NeoCon adventurism, can only lead to more predatory foreign policy imperialism from the world's out-of-control superpower.

Sometimes when I look at Xi's China and NeoCon America, it looks like a choice between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.

Maybe it's best to get these 2 hyper-combative imperialists to fight each other. I'd pick SouthPacific as the best field of action for that.
Just start building various hotels around islands in the South Pacific, and cater to tourists across East Asia, including Chinese.
Gradually keep bringing more and more Chinese into the area, while cashing in on their tourism dollars to earn us valuable foreign exchange.
Eventually sell off these places to the Chinese patrons, and... and let nature take its course. China will take care of the rest of it.

There's that infamous story about Chanakya.
He was seen pouring sugar water onto a thorny bush, and was asked why.
He replied that he was annoyed after being pricked or cut by the thorns of that bush -- so he was pouring sugar water on it to attract ants, which would then devour the bush for him.

Another thing - I feel India should rally Global South to call for investigation into origins of COVID (main culprits are China & USA whose recklessness caused the virus, while poor nations of South suffered most of the deaths, unable to even get vaccines)

"which party allows PIOs to rise high?"

That is not relevant to India. PIOs are a divided lot when it comes to Indian interests. Most of them vote in their self-interest - taxes, which administration treats their state better (for example, CA and NY folks who were targeted by Trump), and their own ideological bent. They are least bothered about India or Indians.

@Tanaji gaaru, that is the propaganda in Europe because Trump is asking them to do contribute their fair share to NATO and not take the US for a ride. Europeans want to play both sides or even three sides - US, Russia, and China. Germany is the first one to object Indian's entry into NSG. Since Biden is a little more amenable to Brussels sweet nothings, they want Biden. What if Trump is all what you say he is. Biden is no doodh sey dhula hua.

On the character front, both are equal. In fact we can even hyphenate them. I don't buy your reasoning, sire.

As for lurching from crisis to another crisis, Biden may not be able to even finish his first year or two if he is reelected.
We will know in a week whether Democrats are going to run Biden or they are going to make him ride into the sunset. That is when we should restart the discussion. Right now, it is a little premature.

Last night was bad for President Biden at the 75th Anniversary celebration of NATO. Calling Zelensky, "President Putin", and addressing VP Kamal Haris as "VP Trump".

BBC: Biden stands defiant on critical night - but gaffes mar fightback

Calls for him to make way are increasing with even mass influencers like George Cloony (NY Times - Op-Ed) joining the chorus. Yet, thing is that his fellow Western leaders are still trying to make excuses for him - Emanuelle Macron and Olaf Scholz (Times of Israel)

The question is how did the Democratic Party, or, the powers that be, let things get so bad? Where is PlanB? Given the momentum, it looks like Trump will be a shoo-in. They really did not game this well.

OT Question: The political face of the country rarely, runs it. I would hypothesize, that there is a well established clique of international bankers, financiers, who moved from continental Europe to UK at the end of the Napoleonic wars, shifting the center of gravity for geopolitics there. Somewhere between the two world wars, this group seeing the relative security and safety of the USA, moved there. Mind you, I am not talking of industrialists and manufacturers. But, the finance industry. They are the ones who run the world and create superpowers.

Question is where next will they move? This clique, are not builders, but they move into safe economical growth places, and leverage growth from natural resources and the established budding enterprises. Europe is in tatters, UK, not doing well.

Will it be Australia? Brazil? Argentina? By definition to infiltrate they need a large established Caucasian base. The rise of China, India, and to a certain extent the Middle East will see similar groups of financiers emerging. They are likely to play the same game, but not so open to integrating the old elites.

Trump was very lucky IMHO. The shot probably missed due to MOA of the gun.

Some Secret Service heads need to roll. How did his protection snipers miss it? I mean these guys:

I'm deeply concerned about the democracy in America. This attempted assassination is the latest in a series of political intimidation of the opposition leader that is vehemently opposed to the ruling regime. This and the fact that only two parties are favored in the political process raises grave doubts over the fairness of democracy
