Strategic link to northern outpost among 5 Ladakh stretches cleared
-AnkitThe road stretches cleared by NBWL include a link road from Chushul-Lukung to Thakung post; a link road between Durbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie (DS-DBO) and Saser-Brangsa-Gapshan; DS-DBO to Track Junction; DBO to Karakoram Pass road; and upgradation of the Leh-Chalunka road. The 5.8-km long Chushul-Lukung to Thakung post road upgradation is part of the India-China Border Roads (ICBR)-III project and will pass through the Changthang cold desert sanctuary.
A total of 35 km of road stretches have been cleared on the new route to DBO, which runs parallel to the LAC. Crucial among these is the 7.75 km-long DSDBO to Saser-Brangsa-Gapshan link road, which will be built at an altitude of 17,000 feet.

Within the next 5 years, the infrastructure on the Indian side of the Indo-Tibet border will be almost on par with the infrastructure on the Tibetan side. Also, given that distance from our holding areas to the border is much shorter as compared to for China, the infra-advantage that the Chinese have enjoyed over the last 20 years will get negated.

Will we get an identical press release from CCP mouth pieces or not is the first test of this announcement.
Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
Hope this time the agreed patrolling points are clearly nailed down to a series of specific GPS coordinates 50m apart instead of thickly drawn lines on a map or worse some loose wordings, and the whole thing is signed by Rus as witness.
The first sign of trouble will be anyone claiming this to be a border settlement which BIFs will try of course, but if such claims come from SCMP etc then we all can guess how long this will last.
With these caveats, good job by MADS.

Kudus to the Diplomats and Military negotiators on this. The sacrificial presence of our boys in such a challenging area has worked if this news is true. However, I am not sure we can trust the Chinese anymore. We will have to be very vigilant with good quality ISR in place, if we are planning to reduce the deployment numbers.
Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
Will have to see the finer details of such an agreement. But the absolute worst thing that can be done now is to scale back - even further - the pittance that is being channeled towards local military equipment. In fact, do the exact opposite i.e. make hay will the sun shines;
1) 155mm ATAGS
2) 155mm MGS
3) Zorawar Light Tank (to fulfill the Army's entire requirement for light tanks)
4) Anti-tank missile for Prachand LCH
5) Sign order for 97 Tejas Mk1A
etc, etc, etc....
Equally worse is to believe the lie that diplomacy will win wars.

Ok that mean Xi is either listening or forced to listen to some older wiser CCP leaders. I also think the US regime is changing colors and the Chinese are preparing for it. Hopefully, our guys are also keeping tabs on these development and fine tune the strategies accordingly. The other angle could be China is preparing for something big in SC area. We will have to prepare for such an eventuality and perhaps force a permanent agreement on the borders.

NEVER TRUST THE CHINESE OR PAKISTANIS.
Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
The Russians want to break the back of the mighty Dollar and this suits China to a T. However, they had to get India on its side and India said with border disputes it won't play ball. So the Russians temporarily arm twisted their buddy China to call truce and knock of the border skirmishes. The Chinese had no option but to play ball and called of the tiff. However they have parked their bases right next to the border areas and can activate hostilities whenever they feel they can have the upper hand. So for now, minor victories are being chalked up by the EAM/PM combine. Without Tibet being freed, India has the huge headache of dealing with Emperor/PLA belligerence on border areas. India should arm twist bordering nations like Nepal, Bhutan to sign a defence pact with India in return for economic aid/free movement. This will make the Chinese not to use such nations as a pawn. Perhaps it is time for China and India to firm up its border and call it truce as far as borders are concerned, no more Arunachal/Ladakh disputes.

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
Excellent discussion from two very senior and intelligent generals.
To summarize, China has aimed for 5 future wars/expansion.
1. Taiwan, 2. Spratly Islands. 3. South Tibet/Arunachal & Ladakh, 4. Mongolia, 5. Russia
And, cunningness is in their education from childhood.
So, no trust and any deal on the border will be temporary for them.
But this gives a good breathing space to close our gaps.
Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
Will also be used as photo-op by Xi. Guess Modi and Xi will shake hands at the BRICS sumit and meet. The timing is too convenient.
Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
Too bloody convenient in fact. While the good generals' military insights on gunner's shot are indeed valuable, there is more at stake here.
I'm guessing China and Russia will expect India to go along with the BRICS payments system, set the ball rolling on some form of common currency mechanism in the coming years which will accelerate dedollarisation which will help them, as quid pro quo from India, having first created an unprovoked border aggression and now allowing patrolling like it was done before until 2020. This is not a gain for India. It's just a pickpocket returning your wallet he stole and claiming a reward.
Additionally they hope to drive a wedge between India and the US which will again play into their objectives.
I'm sure MADS are very much aware of this, it will be very interesting to see what comes out of Kazan.

Unfortunately, the Americans have driven the wedge themselves - Pannun, Nijjar, delays in engines, funding various protests, Adani-Hindenburg, meeting Khalistanis in WH before Modi visit, indicting Doval and other security officers, Bangladesh, and so on.
there is a spate of terrorist attacks recently - numerous act of Sabotage in railways, threats to airlines, bomb in CRPF. if any of these is traced back to Americans it will be very difficult to recover the relationship.
Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
No powerful country be it the US or Russia or China wants a new challenger like India to stake it's rightful claim. There are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests.
There is no victory here with the latest agreement with the Chinese, its just status quo ante. If they hadn't tried this misadventure our soldiers and Col Suresh Babu would be alive. So no photo ops.

The Truce with China is temporary and right its seems all the major powers are out to get us, all we can do build our infrastructure and Arm ourselves well enough, make our Economy, Fuel Technology, infrastructure all strong enough that they don't want to mess with us.
Keep doing what is right for a long enough period.

Apparently Xi said we need to improve communication during the bilateral meeting at Kazan. Trying to pass off the unprovoked border aggression as a misunderstanding due to India's omissions and commissions.
And no doubt he will paint the latest revert to status quo ante as a big concession and want some bigger concessions in return on the trade and investment side.

Re: India's Border Security with China and Pakistan-2020 - Part 2
As usual China after a belligerent foray into territory that is not theirs will paint a picture of magnanimity and concession on the world stage. They have nothing else to show/talk, tis part of the commy/marxist training to come up with their own strain of viewpoint devoid of facts. India needs to understand that the intent is always present in China to usurp other nation's territory, the island dispute along south china seas is testament to their intentions. However with India they are more than matched in capabilities and that is a sobering thought. After 1962, the Chinese have been slapped soundly by India in any attempts to ingress by China into unwanted territory.

https://x.com/SSanbeer/status/1849127027154051353 ---> The settlement pact with China has happened despite India’s growing ties with Taiwan. India also recently made some subtle moves w.r.t. Tibet. QUAD engagement is deepening in the Indo Pacific. India is asserting itself in a broader fashion across the region. And yet, China agreed to begin a formal disengagement process at the LAC. Almost like from a position of weakness. Xi Jinping knows the Chinese economy needs the Indian market (especially ahead of looming conflict with US and a possible Trump presidency).
China saw how India helped Russia by purchasing its oil despite global sanctions. In a world that is fast changing and taking pre-war formations, Xi Jinping would rather have a friend than an enemy made out of India - a country poised to become the third largest economy in some years. Galwan and the resultant standoff with India was a major miscalculation on Beijing’s part. Now, it is forced to eat pie. India held its ground and got a rather good deal (if followed through). A settlement with China also increases our leverage with the West.
It’s a big win for Indian diplomacy, at least in the short term.
