Re: Social Media Watch Thread
I have noticed a sudden rise of social media handles complaining about Indian infrastructure... The handles are all verified and most of these posts are going viral...
While it is true that there are issues with some infra projects, this sudden over focus on infra projects look unnatural...
The pattern looks similar to atrocity literature... Where they create political narrative by mixing genuine issues with fake issues...
It all started with random '90 degree bridge' over a Railway line... (Personally, I didn't find any big mistake in the design...)
Now I'm seeing a post about one unfinished flyover, held up due to land acquisition issue... A building needs to be demolished...
However, it is being portrayed as if some fool planned it without noticing a building, and only noticed the building after construction started...
https://x.com/gemsofbabus_/status/19357 ... 76130?s=19
Many may disagree with me, but this sudden focus on infra projects does seem unnatural...
Since Modi Govt. is pushing heavily in infra sector, some vested interests are building up "atrocity literature", to discourage or even block the infra projects...
That's just my theory...

Re: Social Media Watch Thread
90 degree flyover is extremely dangerous and a disgrace since it shows callousness for safety. There is a bridge in Gujarat that collapsed spectacularly causing a dozen lives lost.
For the rest, it's rainy season so bad roads and other infra causes lots of reactions. Justifiedly.

Re: Social Media Watch Thread
Sirji, have you ever driven on a bridge that makes an abrupt 90-degree turn and that too one supposedly designed to ease traffic congestion? Not every criticism is some grand conspiracy to malign the government; they’re perfectly capable of damaging their own credibility without any help. Many here must be exceptionally lucky never to have dealt with a government office or its babus to truly grasp the scale of corruption and incompetence. Your tier3 city NHAI officer takes home over Rs50 lakhs per month after meeting the office's monthly rishwat quota!LakshmanPST wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 15:34 I have noticed a sudden rise of social media handles complaining about Indian infrastructure... You’re seeing more posts about infrastructure now because it’s monsoon season and as always, one heavy rain is enough to expose the fragile reality of our tofu roads. Parts of the Ambala-Chandigarh expressway have practically vanished. Brand new bridges and flyovers across the country from Rohtak to Mumbai, and even in Gadkari’s own Nagpur (Kamptee being a prime example) already have gaping holes just months after inauguration. As someone who regularly travels by road across western and southern India, I can tell you firsthand: road conditions have significantly deteriorated since the pandemic. But toll booths still pop up just as frequently as potholes. I cannot tell if it is because of increased corruption, incompetence or just that the government is strapped for cash with all the freebies, probably all three.
Re: Social Media Watch Thread
That is an extraordinary claim. I know that there is a lot of graft, but this figure is unimaginable. Maybe I am too much removed from the current day India. The very fact that recently some "luxury" flats in Gurugram were sold for Rs 50 cr and Rs. 150 cr boggled my mind. The rate was quoted as Rs. 50K per sft. With that kind of money, one can get really really really great apts. in Chicago with lake view and all that.
Re: Social Media Watch Thread
True story from my third cousin twice removed. Their company wanted to acquire two acres of land to build company office on one acre and a couple company guesthouses on the other acre. Seller agreed to the price but one sticking point was that a NH would go through the land dividing the two acres into two unconnected parcels. Seller said they had some pull in the local govt. and would get the plan changed so that the NH would not divide the land. They in fact got it changed. The company was about to buy the land but the plan was changed once more. It seems there was another parcel of land that would get divided now with the new plan of the NH. Those had influence at even higher levels in the govt. and got it changed back to the original. In the end, the company did not buy the land nor build an office. They simply leased office space and company folks visiting the India office would stay in serviced apartments. This was ca 2001. Company would have made lot more money on the two parcels than they have made in the last 25 year profits from the company operations.LakshmanPST wrote: ↑12 Jul 2025 15:34 Now I'm seeing a post about one unfinished flyover, held up due to land acquisition issue... Re: Social Media Watch Thread
90 degree bridges look to be a thing in India. Maybe something to do with wanting a bridge ASAP without dealing with land acquisition issues or perhaps another avenue for corruption since a longer bridge requiring more money is built in place of a shorter bridge.
this Z shaped 90 degree bridge from Pune stands tall

While 90 degree Bhopal bridge gained critics, this Z shaped 90 degree bridge from Pune stands tall without any guilt for few decades now. It's also called as Lover's point.
Re: Social Media Watch Thread
The acocryphal story I related above took place in Pune.

Re: Social Media Watch Thread
There's nothing surprising here if you regularly deal with such scoundrels. This is in a tier-3 town, the scale of corruption in tier-1 metro offices like the municipal corporation, excise, or RTO is far greater. It’s well known that officials have monthly "quotas" to fulfill for local MPs, MLAs, and corporators. Beyond that, the rest is distributed across the hierarchy from clerks to senior officers. In many tier-2 and tier-3 cities, a tehsildar can earn anywhere between ₹5cr to ₹10 cr a year under the table. And people still ask why real estate prices are sky-high in India or why every street seems to have a gold shop, even with gold nearing a lakh per 10 grams. On a side note, it is both depressing and comical to see a working class person save his entire life to afford a 3 bdr flat in a metro (where decent ones cost an average of Rs 2cr+ these days) , move in only to find half the flats on the floor are owned by some low level govt official from some no-name town!Vayutuvan wrote: ↑13 Jul 2025 05:44That is an extraordinary claim. Estimates from audits (TwitterAudit 2018-2025, Indian Express) suggest 50-70% of RahulGandhi's 28.1M followers (~14-19.7M) are bots or fake. X purges have reduced this, but political accounts often attract inauthentic activity. Exact figures aren't public.

Dharmasthala Temple issues, another Sabari Mala model targetting of temples?
Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka is a popular temple with lakhs of devotees visiting the temple every year. The temple has a well oiled machinery for serving food (Anna dana etc.) and also runs many other establishments. Another peculiarity is that though the temple is a Hindu temple, it is managed by Karnataka Jains (the Heggade family, whose current head Veerendra Heggade is also a nominated MP to Rajya Sabha by the BJP). This unique aspect also makes it tough for Karnataka's "secular" governments to poach the temple (and its immense wealth) as the Jains are considered as a distinct religious minority.
Around a month back started a well orchestrated campaign against this temple. One person, said to be a sanitation worker associated with the temple claimed that he had buried 200 women & girls in various parts of the ghat/bathing point away from the temple (but used by the temple visitors) betwen the years 1995 to 2014. The peculiarity of this case is that the man did not approach the police with this information. He reached out to two lawyers, who then got their client the benefits of the Witness Protection Scheme 2018, which permits that identities of key witnesses can be kept away from public. Then the lawyers approached the police, and the media was also informed.
The witness now called the complainant-witness said that he had buried the bodies at 13 spots near the Netravathi bathing ghats. By then social media had taken up this issue, and with no evidence what-so-ever the Heggade family was targetted. This is very similar to what happened to the Thantri (head priest) family in Sabari Mala temple case as well. The communists and islamists vloggers, social media handles started a hate campaign against the temple, the temple trust, the BJP/RSS and Hindu religion as well. I was surprised to see that very many of them were from Kerala (when this temple is actually in Karnataka, and not really known much in Kerala). So it is now a pattern that any targetted campaign agains a Hindu temple or religion, gets immense backing from the state of Kerala.
Karnataka Govt formed a Special Investigation team, who then interviewed the complainant-witness. 13 sites were identified, geo tagged and properly marked. Digging of the ground was done at all places, with the revenue officials also in attendance. Even ground penetrating radar was used at one site. All they could find out was parts of a skeleton, and that turned out to be that of a man. Key "material evidence" such as pieces of under garments etc. were also found
. All the while there was the social media campaign going on against the temple and the temple trust. Few vloggers even camped at the area to give live updates (and one group got severely beaten up due to their over-performance).
Now with the "grave" digging completed, and no material evidence to prove any of the claim the government too seems to be backing out. The rumours are that this was a well planned scheme by certain communist groups in the Dharmasthala region, with backing of the usual RoP and RoL groups plus the Kerala based activists doing their best as well. "Jai Bheem"/Ambedkarites could also be involved as the complainant-witness says he is from the Scheduled Caste.
The latest update is..

BJP plans mega rally against 'smear campaign' in Dharmasthala today
But the strategy of shoot & scoot using social media seems to be making a mark. Now it has become more of a trial by (social) media, with the other judicial process have no bearing. Herr Geobells' strategy of "Tell a lie a 100 times, it becomes the truth" seems to be winning again.

Re: Social Media Watch Thread
^^What has been the practical impact of the stunts & drama carried out around 7-8 years ago by Communist women on Sabari Mala temple? Has anything changed on the ground? I think at least one of the women who entered the temple was banished by her husband's family (& soon after all the women org & communists lodged a domestic violence against the MIL primarily). Most women weren't keen on entering the premises & breaking the tradition. Has the stunt affected regular devotees or has there been a drop in attendance? Has the incident given KL Govt. more ammunition to interfere in the daily affairs of the temple? I am seriously asking for curiosity.
I was not following the Dharmastala incident very closely but loosely monitoring and I too believed the "toxic" mix of religion & crimes. I saw visuals of the masked man being escorted by Police to various burial sites but did not know what so far his claims have not held water.
I am sure the judicial process will take its own time and if the management is found not guilty or culpable, an appropriate judgement will be provided (hopefully with compensation if required). The challenging part will be overcoming the initial lies and getting the taint removed. Unless this incident leads to changes in the way the temple operates or becomes more "secular" (read more interference from State Govt.), then I hope this is just a hard phase for the temple!

Re: Social Media Watch Thread
There is never, ever, any push back from the temples targeted with these types of vile, coordinated misinformation attacks by the Left-Islamist nexus.
Be it BAPS Mandir in New Jersey (accused of bringing "low caste" construction workers to the US as slave labour— the "accusers" later recanted their testimony and admitted to being paid for false testimony in an Indian court),
Sabarimala (accused of discrimination against women)
or now Dharmastala (accused of covering up hundreds of sexual assaults & murders, again by a so-called "lower caste" individual whose name conveniently remains hidden and whose real identity cannot be checked because Leftist lawyers have secured court orders to this effect)
The initial smear campaign is boosted by all the usual actors— in India by Scroll, The Wire, Newslaundry, and internationally by Al Jazeera, BBC, Guardian, WaPo until it is replicated in every syndicated wire service as "India news".
The long slow task of disproving an allegation (not how a legal system is supposed to work, btw) continues in the shadows for months and years, while "newsrooms" exhaust the story with inane shouting matches lacking any iota of factual reporting.
By this time everyone's mind is made up about what happened, based on preexisting biases plus whoever shouted the loudest.
When the actual truth comes out (in a whisper from some long-neglected courtroom, years later) nobody could care less.
There is no solution to this but
1. Go on the offensive, using the same techniques against key institutional nodes of Leftist and Islamist networks. Everyone knows how many rapes happen in Jadhavpur University hostel, and how many minor boys are abused at every Madrassa, after all!
2. Develop the kind of street power that makes it very severely and immediately costly for the "reporters", "lawyers" etc involved in the Leftist-Islamist disinformation campaign. Deterrence is a must. (On that note, it is no surprise at all that Sabarimala is in Left-ruled Kerala and Dharmasthala in Congroach- ruled Karnataka).
