https://www.newsonair.gov.in/indian-nav ... -malaysia/

The Indian Navy’s indigenous stealth frigate, INS Sahyadri, visited Kemaman Port in Malaysia as part of the Eastern Fleet’s operational deployment to the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific region. In a statement, the Defence Ministry informed that the ship made the port call on the 2nd of this month, celebrating the enduring cultural ties and shared maritime traditions between the two nations. The visit aimed at further strengthening India-Malaysia maritime military cooperation, interoperability between the two navies and exchanging best naval practices.

Indigenously designed, constructed, and commissioned in 2012, INS Sahyadri is the third ship of the Shivalik-class guided missile stealth frigates. This marks the third visit by INS Sahyadri to Malaysia. The three-day visit included courtesy calls by the ship’s Commanding Officer on senior officers of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), including a meeting with First Admiral Abd Halim bin Kamarudin, Deputy Commander of the Naval Region. The visit also featured professional exchanges, cross-visits by Indian Navy and RMN officials, joint training, and sports fixtures between the two navies.

The Republic Channel is doing good in defense reporting. Reminds of the Discovery channel's Future Weapons programs.
Warship Using Newton's Law To Hunt Chinese Submarines
INS Androth, the second vessel in the Arnala-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) series, was commissioned by the Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam on October 6, 2025. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), this indigenous warship reflects over 80% local content and marks a major stride in India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Designed for operations in littoral zones, INS Androth enhances India’s ability to detect and neutralize underwater threats, complementing larger platforms like frigates and submarines.

Following the induction of INS Arnala earlier this year, INS Androth strengthens the Navy’s layered ASW grid and bolsters coastal defence. Equipped with advanced sonar systems, lightweight torpedoes, and ASW rockets, it is tailored for high-performance in shallow waters. The vessel also supports maritime surveillance, search and rescue, and patrol missions.

I am going to make a prediction. Bookmark this. India's indigenous attack submarine will not come from a French or German ToT at MDL.

It will come from HSL and/or L&T based on the indigenous Arihant experience.

@cvkrishnan
When MDL Chairman was complaining publicly about Naval Group “they weren’t showing us their firing tables and shutting their laptops on the know-why part” it showed the limited imagination and balls on the part of Indian side. If Indian Navy and MDL had worked to gain the know-why could’ve gone ahead with the further Scorpenes at much lesser cost on our own.

India may scrap the proposed project to build another 3 French-origin Scorpene subs at (MDL), while it goes full steam ahead with the plan to construct 6 new German-origin submarines at the same facility for over Rs 70,000cr.
Final decision to scrap it has not yet been taken

Advanced Light Weight Torpedo In The Works
https://www.indiandefensenews.in/2025/0 ... works.html

Speed Enhancement

One of the most notable upgrades is the introduction of a new 100 kW Magnesium-Silver Chloride (Mg-AgCl) battery, which will increase the torpedo's speed from 33 knots to 47 knots—a remarkable 42% increase. This enhancement will allow the ALWT to better engage fast-moving submarines, reducing their chances of evasion during an attack. The increase in speed also extends the effective range of the torpedo, making it suitable for broader operational scenarios in the Indian Ocean Region.

For the Indian Navy, AoN was granted for the procurement of Landing Platform Docks (LPD), 30mm Naval Surface Gun (NSG), Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWT), Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track System and Smart Ammunition for 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount. The procurement of LPDs will help the Indian Navy to undertake amphibious operations along with Indian Army and Indian Air Force. The integrated sea capability provided by LPD will also help the Indian Navy to undertake peacekeeping operations, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief etc. The induction of ALWT, which is indigenously developed by Naval Science & Technological Laboratory, DRDO is capable of targeting conventional, nuclear and midget submarines. The procurement of 30mm NSG will enhance the capability of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard to conduct Low Intensity Maritime Operations & anti-piracy roles.

IndianNavy's warship INSTrikand mission deployed in the Gulf of Aden for maritime security operations, rendered critical firefighting and SAR assistance to Cameroon-flagged LPG carrier, MT Falcon operating off the coast of Djibouti.

The ship undertook firefighting operation in close coordination with Civil Tug hired by Shipping Company and successfully brought the fire under control.

24 out of 26 crew members (25 Indians & 1 British) who were able to evacuate the ship, were rescued by merchant ships in vicinity.
A team of firefighting and medical specialists from INS Trikand boarded MT Falcon and recovered the mortal remains of two missing crew, braving intense heat, damaged structures and toxic fumes.

The mortal remains were subsequently handed over to the Embassy of India in Djibouti.

INS Mahe Now Makes India’s Coasts Impossible to Breach
INS Mahe Now Makes India’s Coasts Impossible to Breach

India’s naval power just took a massive leap with the induction of INS Mahe, a powerful anti-submarine warfare ship built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. Designed for underwater surveillance, search and rescue missions, and coastal defence, INS Mahe can track and neutralise hidden submarine threats with deadly precision. It’s the first of eight advanced ASW Shallow Water Crafts that will make India’s coastal waters more secure. It is equipped with waterjet propulsion and cutting-edge sonar systems, and is a fully indigenous warship that strengthens India’s “Make in India” vision and boosts our Navy’s stealth capabilities. It is named after the historic port of Mahé in the Union Territory of Puducherry, nestled along the Arabian Sea.

Indian Navy's survey vessel Ikshak to be commissioned on November 6 - PTI
The Indian Navy's indigenously built survey vessel Ikshak is set to be commissioned at the Naval Base here [Kochi] on November 6, the Defence PRO said on Monday.

The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, marking the formal induction of the third vessel in the Survey Vessel (Large) class.

According to an official statement, the commissioning marks a significant milestone in India's pursuit of hydrographic excellence and indigenisation.

"As the third ship of her class, Ikshak's induction underscores the Navy's steadfast commitment to building advanced, state-of-the-art platforms, furthering the momentum of capability enhancement and self-reliance," the statement said.

Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, Kolkata, under the supervision of the Directorate of Ship Production and the Warship Overseeing Team (Kolkata), Ikshak embodies over 80 per cent indigenous content, the spokesperson added.

The vessel stands as a testament to the successful collaboration between GRSE and Indian MSMEs, proudly reflecting the spirit and strength of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

"Beyond her primary role of hydrographic survey operations, Ikshak is designed with dual-role capability, serving as a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) platform and as a hospital ship during emergencies," it said.

Ikshak is also the first SVL ship with dedicated women-specific accommodation, reflecting the Indian Navy's inclusive and progressive approach toward a future-ready fleet, the spokesperson added.

The ship's name, Ikshak-meaning 'the guide'- aptly symbolises her mission to chart the unknown, ensure safe passage for mariners, and strengthen India's maritime capabilities, the statement said.
