https://x.com/SandeepUnnithan/status/19 ... 95871?s=20 ---> Reup of our discussion on @gauravcsawant's Battle Cry last week- the IAF’s projected requirement in 2016 was for 10 systems. Cut back to five. Post Operation Sindoor, this is now being met with five additional S-400s. Also on offer, two Akula Class SSNs (in addition to the Chakra 3)… though I doubt the Akulas will be taken…$6+ billion.
India-Russia Defence Offers: Su-75 Checkmate, S-400 & Nuclear Submarines
This discussion analyses India's strategic options regarding major Russian defence offers, including additional S-400 systems, Su-75 Checkmate fighters, and nuclear-powered submarines on lease. Experts weigh these proposals against the progress of India's indigenous programmes like the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and the potential for US sanctions like CAATSA. The debate covers the complexities of technology transfer, the future of naval submarine projects, and the reliability of strategic partners. Air Marshal Anil Chopra (Retd.) ranks India's defence partners, stating, 'if I was to put them in a layer, it'll be France, Russia, and then US-UK group'.

I would have thought the S500 complex would have made a better choice than the S400 ? Was the reason cost ? i know the project Sudarshan and Kusha has evolved missiles and radars as well

Quicker integration is my guess. In time they'll upgrade and have local systems.
Re: Military Acquisitions, Partnerships & Developments
The indigenous Project Kusha, that the DRDO is working on now, is designed to meet/ exceed the parameters of S500. Therefore, the GOI wants to buy additional S400 as a stopgap. Buying the S500 will kill Project Kusha.

Rajnath Singh's Shocking Ask At LBSNAA: 'Keep Yourself Mentally Prepared | Operation Sindoor
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the 100th Foundation Course valedictory ceremony at LBSNAA, delivered a powerful message to young administrators — urging them to stay mentally ready for any crisis that may arise in the future. Referring to Operation Sindoor and India’s measured yet firm response to Pakistan, Rajnath underscored the need for coordination between the military and civil administration in times of national challenge. His comments, later echoed through his post on X, have sparked discussions on whether India is gearing up for an Operation Sindoor 2.0.
From Mussoorie to the corridors of power in Delhi, the remarks have drawn attention to India’s evolving security posture and the growing emphasis on preparedness across institutions. As the country continues to navigate volatile borders and fast-changing geopolitical realities, Rajnath Singh’s “Be Prepared” message stands as both a warning and a call to action.

Re: Military Acquisitions, Partnerships & Developments
The news is true. Coming in 2028. I am trying to find out which Akula it is, as it depends on whether I have to distribute mithai or not.
I know it is one of the mothballed Akulas, but don't know which one exactly. This one (Chakra-III) will be more potent than INS Chakra-II.
Indian kit will be on board, probably to be a test vehicle for our own upcoming SSN program (Project 77).

https://x.com/Tej_Intel/status/1996575136170811600?s=20 ----> Nuclear submarine leasing is not MoD/Indian Navy program. It's a PMO program - so the secrecy around is understandable. The whole cost will be paid by the PMO.Rakesh wrote: ↑04 Dec 2025 20:08 https://x.com/sneheshphilip/status/1996 ... 12633?s=20 ---> India and Russia ink $3 billion deal for lease of third nuclear submarine. Bloomberg published a report that India signed a deal for US $2 billion lease for a follow-on Akula Class. The GoI debunked the claim - via PIB - and stated that the deal was actually signed in March 2019. This is the first official confirmation that INS Chakra-III is indeed coming.Rakesh wrote: ↑04 Dec 2025 19:02The news is true. Coming in 2028. The plant will manufacture Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs), marking a major step forward in the partnership with Liquid Robotics, a Boeing company, that was announced earlier this year to co-develop and co-produce advanced maritime systems. The USVs manufactured at this facility will enhance undersea domain awareness through local production and will build capacity for the Wave Glider platform.
