He was posted as SI in DSSC after NDC. He commanded an infantry division and on completion of Comd in April 2004, he was posted as Chief Instructor (Army),DSSC, Wellington. On completion of his tenure at DSSC, he was posted as COS (designate) at the Eastern Command headquarters and has now become COS. He is fond of classical music .
Who writes these press releases? It is so filled with acronyms (which most Indian newspapers seem to love!) and jargon, it is hard to decipher anything. The military doesn't take an active interest in trying to educate the aam janta about their affairs, and the aam janta couldn't seem to care less. We already know about the DDM.http://in.news.yahoo.com/060703/48/65leh.html

Militaries might, and should communicate internally as they please, but when they see a PR opportunity to communicate with the rest of the world, they should do so unambigously. We keep hearing this talk about info warfare and media warfare, but they can't put out simple press releases. Speak clearly so that your target audience understands you!ASPuar wrote:Heheh militaries all over the world love acronyms!
By the way, MA is Military Attache'.
Nope.. MA to COAS is Military Assistant. Lt Gen Shah to take over as Dy Chief of Army Staff tomorrow
Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah will take over as the new Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Planning and Systems) on Sunday (October 1) after the present incumbent Lt General GD Singh retires. Shah is the elder brother of famous actor Naseeruddin Shah.
An alumni of St. Joseph's College, Nainital, Lt. General Shah was commissioned into the 186 Light Regiment (Camel Pack) in June 1968 and he saw action in the 1971 India-Pakistan at Longewala in Jaisalmer sector, an Army spokesman said here on Friday adding Shah, at present, was posted in 3 Corps in the north-east region.
Shah has participated in counter-insurgency operations in the north-east and Punjab besides serving stints in a mountain brigade, an instructor at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai and Additional Military Secretary, Army Headquarters.
He also served as defence attache in Saudi Arabia, the spokesman said adding Shah was a graduate of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, Delhi. Incidentally, his son is now serving in his father's regiment, the spokesman said.
In another major appointment Lt General SP Sree Kumar has been named as the new Signal Officer-in-Chief. A 1968 batch officer, Kumar is a graduate of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and took part in the 1971 war. He also served a stint in Sri Lanka during the IPKF operations and in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
Lt General PR Gangadharan was appointed as the new military secretary and will assume the new responsibility on October 1. A Maratha Light Infantry officer, he also saw action during the 1971 war in Jaisalmer sector and later served in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. At present, he is commanding a Desert Corps, the spokesman said
So General Autar Singh resigned?Mandeep wrote:General Mandhata Singh is currently DG, DIA.Yes, he succeeded General Avtar Singh.
General Sarabjit Singh Dhillon? So General Harcharanjit Singh Panag has retired?Mandeep wrote:General Dhillon, a Gunner is going to XII Corps.
Mandeep says General SS Dhillon is taking over as GOC 21 Corps. You are saying that he is taking over as MGO. Which one is it? If it is the former, then General Nirbhay Sharma (the present MGO) is retiring? It would appear so, as his commission date is Xmas '66.AmanC wrote:He's already taken over. And Maj Gen AS Sekhon is going as GOC 15 Corps in place of SS Dhillon who does as MGO.

Why should Avtar Singh resign? He retired in due course and was replaced by Mandhata Singh. Similarly, HS Panag is still serving and will be elevated to Army Commander on December 31. Two vacancies are occuring on Dec 31 with Lt Gen S. Pattabhiraman (Vice Chief) and Lt Gen Arvind Kumar (Eastern Command) retiring. Lt Gen ML Naidu (Commandant Army War College) will be the second officer, along with Panag, to be elevated to Army Cdr.
The interesting part is that Lt Gen Naidu had age to his great advantage so despite the fact that his coursemates became Army Cdrs more then a year back, he still had two years residual service to become Army Cdr.
Nirbhay Sharma retires on Oct 31 to pave way for yet another GOC 15 Corps to take over as MGO
And yes, SPS Dhillon, ex-MGGS Northern Command has gone as GOC 12 Corps.
