If its name is Tejas, then change the name of the thread.

Nice name BTW.

I think the Name fits well to LCA; given the fact its radience has proved beneficial not only to the Aerospace community but to all other projects sharing its R&D.

Sorry I wasn't in the best location - but nevertheless this may be the fisrt video clip of two Tejas's flying in formation for the naming ceremony 3 hours ago.

Saw the IJT Sitara doing some fancy stuff but was in the wrong place at the wrong time for videos.

For modem users - watch out - this file is 6.8 MB

But, it does not roll of the tongue naturally like the Lavi or the Mirage, nor does it have instant charisma attached to it.

HAL or the govt. should have had a suggested name competition.

I totally love the name! (Actually second to "Aditya", but nevermindthatwe'lltalkaboutitlater)

Gaurav, I disagree, it rolls off the tongue perfectly... Tejas Tejas Tejas Tejas (Sorry, I'm rambling :) )

Only difference is "LCA" is faster to type than "Tejas"!

Yes that was good. It rolls right and then does a rapid left roll as it disapppears behind that guard tower to reappear while doing a 4G climb

The roll is pretty rapid.

Though the name Tejas is apt due its significance for the Indian aerospace program, it doesn't sound aggressive enough for a combat aircraft. But then, we don't commonly refer to Mig 29s as Baaz or the M2K as the Vajra, so it's o.k. I guess.

yes, plurals are an issue, no doubt the americans will say 'Tejai' as in 'Return of the Tejai', etc.
mind you they will probably say 'Tee-jazz' for the singular

Daulat, Americans will call it "Tehas" (j pronounced as h), especially Dubya. The name "Texas" is derived from the RedIndian word "Tejas" meaning friendship.

Tejas
Nice name for a person or project or a satellite but not very appropriate for a fighter plane. Radiance is not going to make anybody **** in their pants.

Tejas! Great name. Shiv, and an amazing video. Yeh Dil mange more.

Vajpayee names LCA as 'Tejas'
Cruising at a speed of 600km/h and climbing to a height of 250feet, both the prototypes, codenamed Delta-I and Delta-II, flew in close formation and conducted breathtaking manoeuvres, including crisscrossing in midair, teardrop turns, waggle wings, and zoom pull-ups.
Aatre said the two technology demonstrators have so far conducted 75 test flights. In all, the project involves 225 flights, including training flights by IAF pilots with the five vehicles that are currently under production. "The Pilot Vehicle-I, which will take to skies this July, will breach the sound barrier and go at supersonic speed."

Just realised that only Indian designed and built aircraft took part in the flight demonstration for PM. I wish by Aero India 2005, 5 each of Tejas, Dhruv and IJT's would fly in formation and that too in combat colors.

Well,I am not too happy with the name -but oh well.

Speaking of names heres an interesting one for IAF watchers- When the Hawks ,24 Sqn got their Sukhois down in Lohegaon, they had a exquisite patch which showed a Cobra chomping on an F-16 in its grip. The inscription said-Flanker the ultimate aggressor.'
So,one day one of our rising Air Marshals visits the unit, sees the guys walk around with the patch and blows hot saying-Flanker's a NATO designation-We dont refer to our a/c with NATO names. So the poor sqn chappies had to dump those patches.
And soon enough, even the Russians call the aircraft as the Flanker in their marketing promos.

Sigh.

Cheers,
Kapil

Indian PM woos foreign firms for aerospace industry
V.K. Aatre, scientific advisor to the defence minister said the Light Combat Aircraft had so far had 76 test flights.

"The aircraft is soon going to go supersonic. So far five prototypes, two technology demonstrators and eight limited series aircraft have been planned," Aatre said, adding it was expected to be inducted into Indian airforce this decade.

S. Krishnaswamy, chief of Indian Air Force, which has projected a requirement of about 200 LCA in a decade, said the aircraft still had to go through certification requirements.

"It is a very tough step ahead. Crossing the sound barrier is chicken feed for the aircraft but it has to meet a lot of manoeuvrability criteria ."

Thanks very much for the video, Shiv. I like the fact that I'm finally able to *listen* to the LCA. There is nothing quite like the sound of jet engines.

Tejas is a zimble name. I like it although nothing beats 'LCA'. I personally will not address it so till it gets inducted into the IAF.

Doc, great videos...as always.

First thanks to shiv.

Second I didnt like the name. But did want to sound 'Whiner Raja' even on this issue.

Tejas doesnt ooze punch, nor does it indicate 'oomph' factor.

Bravo Tejas, "vijayee bhava"!

Thanks Shiv for the wonderful video.

Also tune in to Doordarshan news it has a good 8 minutes coverage on the Tejas, an interview of Dr.Atre.

Viewing it on RealPlayer option is much superior.

For the first time I saw Tejas do a loop :) . Also note that Delta 1 & 2 tookoff together!
