Hey, this is a great idea for a new topic! Maybe you could reword it in line with the standard threads we have here.

I believe a lot of those songs online were released some years ago on casette and CD in an album whos name i cant remember.

It was great hearing them. They really are golden oldies.

How about "Jis desh main ganga behti hai"
Theres a great rendition of 'vande mataram' by asha bhosle or lata mageshkar (cant reemmber which) but i remember seeing it on tv in india some years ago.

I dont know if you remember the music swapping program called Audiogalaxy? It was there a while ago, and i downloaded sooo many patriotic songs from that site.

Some of the rare ones too, i was able to get a hold of.

Remember Salil Chaudhary's 'E Mere pyare watan' from the movie Kabuliwala (i think).

then there is the movie Shaheed (the old old one) with the song "Aye Watan, aye watan"

then of course, Haqeeqat with the song "Kar Chale Hum fida..."

the song from Leader.."Apni azadi ko hum hargiz mita sakte nahin"

If I am not mistaken, Pradeep (lyricist/poet)has written quite a number of patriotic songs..so if someone can find songs written by him ...

Original (in a movie, name of which escapes me as of now)was sung by Lata Mangeshkar, composed by Hemant Kumar. Perhaps, there is a version of his having sung too, the same one..

I do not know/remember the words but here is an attempt ..People familiar with South Indian languages will be more conversant with it as this is in Sanskrit and not Hindi..

Raj, i think your post implies that, but Kavi Pradeep wrote that song!

the Vande Mataram from Anand Math was sung by Lata ji in the new album by A R Rehman. the one after 'Maa Tujhe Salaam'.

One of my fav. movies of all time. At about the same time, there was this other movie Shagird which was watched by all my peers and they would get confused whenever I say I like Shahid. They would say "Shagird? I saw that movie". Dad never allowed me to see Shagird, BTW. Excllent choice by my dad. I was a kid at that time, had to listen to my dad, and I am thankful now.

One, an excellent song, undeniably.

Second, you have copied the words from somewhere..

Third, this song is applicable to any expatriate/person who has left his/her country and misses it. Beauty of this song is that it is not just India specific, in any way.

Anyone has full lyrics to Ashfaque Ullah (Kakori rail dacoity) famous poem. His original A'shaar are masterpiece. Has anyone ever composed these?

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika has concieved many patriotic songs that are legendary in Assam. Most of you might not be able to understand his songs coz they are either in Assamese or Bengali; suffice to say that his lyrics coupled with his ethereal baritone gives goosebumps to anyone who understands them. As soon as I find good translations of them in english and hindi I will post them.

What sets these songs apart from other patriotic songs is that they are heavily influenced by folk music and lyrical traditions.

The lyrics, tune and simple folk music for the two songs below always makes me emotional,
