Since Lohegaon AFS is not pre-loaded into the software, it appears that the aircraft is not open to a landing. Still working on that.
Yes... its amazing. I have a joystick and i never tire of roaming around.. I even flew from Chennai to Delhi. For afficiandos, try flying from Kathmandu, or Uttaranchal. Also fly high along the Assam valley.. th view is amazing.

Also Check out the facilities at Wheelers Island. Pretty high res.

That's right and the caption also says "72 placemarks" - and clicking on that produces dozens of placemarks all over the continent of Africa bearing names on WW 2 battles - some of which were fought in the Pacific and many names that I have never heard

I wounder if this is someone's practical joke.

After all what is there to prevent me from labelling the Wihte House as "my house"

Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore International Airports, are now nearing completion. when is GE going to update them?
I have located Bylalu village on the outskirts of bangalore, site of ISRO's deep telemetric network (the giant satellite dishes for the chandrayaan project and beyond), but it is still an old picture and not updated

Narora atomic power plant continues to be in horribly low res.

Wheeler island's mainland base facilities have been covered with a strategically placed cloud a-la-adam's fig leaf

Some israeli airbases are shown in considerably degraded pictures. I guess we are going to have a much more tightly controlled dissemination of strategic info from GE.

Google buggers have now put uncluttered photo of Gorakhpur (earlie phoo has thin could cover largely protecting the Air base and like.

26°44'20.09"N 83°27'6.46"E

The airfield is otherwise well camouflaged and protected by thick wood tree plantation.

The Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering Collage is on the South Western side of the air base.

Narora Atomic power station is now visible in high res.

A few areas of the Saltoro range in Siachen are now in high res. I can make out one small pakistani camp down by the glacier river (Not on the saltoro itself) at 35.19.48.59N 76.54.22.77S
Can't see any snow igloos on the saltoro itself (Grrr. degraded pictures from google) Isn't this the area where Bana post is located???

I have been studying the Google Earth and Wikimapia for quite some time. I find something rather fishy. What is seen on both the sites seems to be IDENTICAL. For example one of the sites indicated an a/c taking off from a base. The other site shows the SAME PIC. The a/c is exactly at the same location. Can somebody explain ?

I would like to share my experience from these site with like-minded gentlemen (and ladies too). but NOT on this open forum. Anybody interested write to me on kersikdotiwalla at rediffmail dot com.

Yes they have the same pictures.
However wikimap has much higher resolution pictures, and the buildings are identified in much detail.
The only advantage GE offers is the sheer ease of navigation.
I usually use wiki map to identify structures and mark them on GE.

Adampur AFB is now High res with Mig - 29s parked on the tramac. This is one HUGE AFB with many many bunkers for all that ground attack ammo.
There is one bunker bang in the middle, marked "Bunker" on google earth community, which looks "kinda special".
(Although it is the nieghbouring Sirsa which has the really special special stuff with the twin sat dish domes etc)

Part of the Saltoro Range is in High Resolution, including the Bilafond La and the Bilafond Glacier and part of the Lolafond Glacier. Also the Saltoro Kangri is High Res.
The pakistani post "Ali Bangrasia" and another un named post are visible down south.
But no matter how hard I look I can't see any sign of habitation here. I've been going crazy for this past week looking (both GE and Wikimapia).
I know Bana post is in this area, exactly where I can't see. The only place on the web where I found its description is this excerpt from a dumb website:
This was the Quaid Post at an altitude of 21,600 feet, named after the company which established it in April 86. It stands out as the loftiest feature in the heights of Bilafond sector overlooking Rana and Akbar Tops to the West, Prem in the North and Yaqub in the East where enemy lay entrenched in mutually supporting and well riveted dug-outs. Primarily, the top served as an observation-post from where enemy’s rear could be amply observed. Enemy would particularly feel teased by Quaid OP when it directed artillery shelling onto it as far back as the heli-zone in their rear, not allowing air-dropping of reinforcements nor any movement without cover. Quaid OP was set up on a plateau not more than 15 meters in radius. From an aerial view the top looked like a swelled octopus of ice with its 3 major tentacles spread out in long protrusions sloping down as they extended outward. Its rearward arm was a large cliff with a sheer fall of 300 feet on all sides at the base of which was located the Quaid Post that supported the Quaid OP. Its right projection was a gradually falling spur fading into a forest of broken conical rocks, whereas on the left was a thick mass of rising rock falling steeply on its sides. Own troops had only one approach towards the peak moving along the rope tied with iron pickets curving its path over the homeward projection of the rocks. Deep crevices and steep boulders would push them further to the east. Area to the left of Quaid Post was criss-crossed with deep gorges and huge crevasses. Dizzying steepness of OP’s side in the west ruled out chances of any access to it through this route. Enemy too could only negotiate the OP along the right slope where the gradient was gradual and manageable.
All you guys who've served in Siachen, and the government wallahs, C'mon the Pakistanis have satellite pictures and know the location of each post down to meters, at least let us aam junta know a little more.
Anyone else who can point me in the right direction, please help me out. It can be done off line too. Please mail me at:

The image below is a thumbnail of a typical aerial photograph used by an Imagery Analyst. Clicking on the thumbnail will produce a popup window containing a larger, higher resolution image of the same photograph. By viewing the larger image you should be able to test your capabilities as an imagery analyst and complete the quiz below.

This is more than a Pechora Site. This has three pechora SAM systems located at 7 O clock. (All three at 7 'O clock !)
A normal Pechora site like the one below has the three launchers located in an equilateral triangle about 115-120 m away.
Image

This site is different, it has what look like trucks with large cannisters at 11 and 3 'O clock. The whole thing is is a 250 m circle, exactly the same as a S-300 site.
For comparison, this is a Chinese S-300 Site, one of those outside Beijing.

Flying Gurus please help this launchpad. After reading this post I installed google earth, but I am unable to pilot the aircraft properly. Unlike other flight simulators, the control surfaces are not coming back to their neutral position and it is very difficult to control the aircraft that way. So if I enter a roll, I keep on rolling and similar behaviour for other maneuvers too. Some gyaan is needed so that I can enjoy the flying experince too.

Note : I don't have the luxury of a joystick.

Cheers....
