Is it possible not to delete threads like TSP News etc? Threads regarding private meets or less serious issues can be deleted but others should be kept in archives for the sake of enormous amount of news data and valuable analysis by members.
Reading such old threads puts things in perspective and are helpful in many ways

LOL, I screwed up and actually ended up creating a new thread by mistake which I have deleted...sorry...

hey admins,

Please lemme know if I can go ahead and create a new thread for the possible features and requirements for the 6th gen fighters......Usually design and development work for the next gen aircraft begins as soon as the previous gen fighter goes into production....with F-22 s already in service I feel we in BRF should start discussing 6th gen fighters and the Indian perspective on it.....I am nt sure if it would fit into any existing thread...

Lemme know...

Yogi, if you are talking about 6th Generation fighters in general then please feel free to post in the "International Aerospace Discussion" thread, but if you have something which is about India and 6th generation fighters then please feel free to post in the "Indian Military Aviation" thread.

Thanks.

Admins,
Please let me know where can I post stuff regarding robots\developmental weapons we should\could develop?
Also, can we have a thread just for clean brainstorming - topics could be ways of gathering intelligence, could be for developing weapons or anything that is helpful. So much knowledge and expertise is available among BRFites and Indians...let us put it to use.
Another thing I suggest is (optional of course) for members to indicate their areas of expertise in tech matters without divulging their identities\areas of work etc. Members with less knowledge in a certain field can gain some knowledge from experts in that field. JMT.
Thanks,

HEY,

Don't you think we should have a new thread on DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPON SYSTEMS.
Like EMP, HAARP, and tactical lasers...

So that people like us can know more abt them???

Hi,

If you guys need a new moderator, I’m volunteering.

I’ve been a contributing member on BR for about 8 years now, and a lurker for 10.

I’ve found here a fantastic and happy community of retired officers, military geeks, armchair generals, and bathtub admirals.

Im really glad more people are joining. In the old days, posting on BR was a long learning curve. New people are joining every day, and its an exciting confluence of views. For my part, I think I’ve gone from being enthusiastic young newbie, to something of a crotchety old-timer. Most of you folks have seen me around the forum.

So like I say- If you need a new hand, and you think I'd fit the bill, let me know! Id be pleased to assist in keeping BR a place which people can enjoy and indulge in fruitful discussion at.

Regds,

Mumbai attack discussions are happening non-archive threads like Indian Police, Indian Special Forces, Small Arms. Too much x-posting required.

Request the same are moved to a dedicated Mumbai thread in Military forum lest they are trashed.

Also i think it is better to move Indian Police from tech forum to Military forum.

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Too many connections [1040]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.
suggestion:- i am not sure what language or software you guys use.

please look at:

1. closing the connection in a finally block
2. and/or ensure you use a pool of connections to speed up and know precisely how many connections you need to keep at a certain window of time.
3. close connections cleanly after pool use.

Most probably it was denial-of-service attack (or DoS attack). But BR should be very vigilant against script injections (which was used to destroy Baki DF).

(Maybe) DoS attacks were also carried out against other Indian or pro Indian forum yesterday.

Hi Mods,

Instead of PHP BB you can use VBulletin forum.
It is a paid software but it's fully worth spending.
Specially since the user base of BRF is huge now it needs a real good commercial software.

VBulletin has option to migrate the whole database of PHP BB to VBulletin so that you donot have any loss of data.

If BR is using MySQL for storing archives, and threads, let us (may be me too) know the code that handles connections. perhaps, there is a solution.

I think we are using persistent connections to the database, which is not always a good thing. Please look into this link for more information.

ok, just got to know you are using php..

check these links on how to use something that is similar to caching for read ops, and connection pooling for write and updates.

http://au.php.net/manual/en/book.pdo.php
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... 93044.html

Normally I except something like this to happen.

1. For all reads, you have application level scope to read from cache. all active threads are cached.
2. All updates and write updates the cache after SQL ops.
3. Read about the pdo connection pooling guide to use them. connection pooling limits the number of connections.

basically, close the connection after use, if you are not pooling.

2c.

ok.. persistent connections, is all you have..
http://au.php.net/manual/en/pdo.connections.php

Example #3 Closing a connection
<?php
$dbh = new PDO('mysql:host=localhost;dbname=test', $user, $pass);
// use the connection here

// and now we're done; close it
$dbh = null;
?>

Many web applications will benefit from making persistent connections to database servers. Persistent connections are not closed at the end of the script, but are cached and re-used when another script requests a connection using the same credentials. The persistent connection cache allows you to avoid the overhead of establishing a new connection every time a script needs to talk to a database, resulting in a faster web application.

Example #4 Persistent connections
<?php
$dbh = new PDO('mysql:host=localhost;dbname=test', $user, $pass, array(
PDO::ATTR_PERSISTENT => true
));
?>

Note: If you wish to use persistent connections, you must set PDO::ATTR_PERSISTENT in the array of driver options passed to the PDO constructor. If setting this attribute with PDO::setAttribute() after instantiation of the object, the driver will not use persistent connections.

^^^ who else can we expect for these DoS attacks.

and its not funny anymore. You do it once or twice to prove your point. But this is getting ridicules now.

Someone should get main stream media attention on this and label it as Cyber terrorism by Bakis.

big boss tells us these from outside India. also, these are under control of the guilty party which is how things work in DDOS, not necessarily doing it on their own.

A website can be as secure or insecure as a webmaster wants it to be.

Security has nothing to do with open source and closed source, it depends on configuration and setup. In many ways open source software like phpbb is more secure since vulnerabilities are well documented and fixed. All one has to do is keep up to date with latest version of software.

Enjoyed the drama around the latest security issues in IE and Windows? Keep in mind Microsoft products are truly closed source unlike software marketed by Internet Brands, Inc.

I only visited IDF once (still regret it), but that place was filled with teenaged 'u' 'cud' 'shud' idiots so I would not be surprised if their website got hacked. One can only hope they didn't do regular backups.
