I’m in London and although it’s politically incorrect to be here – I really should be in South Waziristan snuggling up to Baitullah – it’s my dear friend the aging supermodel Marie Helvin’s 66th birthday party. Being in London means that I can expect a big sulk from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court because he expects me to be in Pakistan applauding all his mad decisions. I really admire him because like Oliver Cromwell he’s doing a great job of promoting Nawaz Sharif and demoting everyone else. Like me, the CJ is a visionary and he has visions of pie in the sky. I’m a visionary myself – I have visions of being perched on a pedestal with the adoring masses at my feet begging me to get lost and go home. Like me, Islam also has a great past which needs to be revisited. I know this because I’ve been in the British Library and spent a whole day at the upside-down books counter which are much better than straight books because upside-down books are absorbed quickly by the brain.
