No radioactive materials on seized NKorean ship
PORT BLAIR: The two-member experts team from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), after two long sessions of detailed investigation, have not found radioactive materials on the North Korean cargo ship, which the Indian Coast Guard had detained on August 5 off the Hut Bay of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The experts from BARC (A&N Islands) were called in by the joint investigating team probing into the circumstances under which the North Korean ship had entered the Andaman waters recently .

The ship MV Mu San, which is currently anchored at the Port Blair port area, was intercepted by the ICG ship Kanaklata
<SNIP>
Highly placed sources in the joint investigating team confirmed no radioactive material was found this time as well.

There was nothing of that sort (radioactive material), said a source, on condition of anonymity.

The team comprising Army Intelligence, Navy, Intelligence Bureau and the CID, has been interrogating whether the ship was involved in illegal transportation of nuclear components because the statements of crew members were not matching with documents available.

The sources told Express that the joint investigating team was still waiting for a Korean interpreter to begin their interrogation of the crewmembers properly.

The commander of the Andaman and Nicobar Coast Guard, Deputy Inspector General KR Nautiyal on Saturday had said that there the crew at first said they were going to Iraq, but then said they were going to Kakinada and were unable to produce any relevant document. The ship’s captain had also said that they had entered the Andaman water due to engine failure. However, the technical team had found that there were no engine failure.

Secret Indian currency template compromised: CBI

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/news ... 890917.cms
The secret template India uses to print currency notes has been "compromised" and that is possibly why fake but real-looking Indian currency notes are being pumped in to subvert the country's economy, says the Central Bureau of Investigation.
"Our investigations have revealed that the 2005 secret security template which was introduced as part of the new design adopted then has been compromised," CBI Director Ashwini Kumar said.
It was decided at the meeting to take up the issue of FICN with the European countries, including Britain, which are exporting ink and currency paper to Pakistan from where most of the counterfeits originate.

Media reports suggest that FICN even bore authentic series codes indicating the deep knowledge of anti-national elements about the security features.

US and UK are the real enemies of India currently and they are punching India from all sides. However, this is done in such a deceptive and hush-hush way, it is incidents like the above which give a glimpse about what is really happening. These two countries are desperate to carve out some territory for themselves out of India. Most of anti-national operations inside India -- from promotion of Indian leftist liberals to support to Indian Maoists to mischief in Kashmir and North East -- is being orchestrated by the AngloSaxons. Pakistan is just a cat's paw for these two worthies.

Meanwhile:
'Edge over terrorists in 26/11 possible if DRDO weapons used'

Security forces would have had an edge over terrorists during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks if they were equipped with weapons developed by the country&aposs defence labs, a top DRDO official claimed here today.

Several technologies like stun grenades, chilli bombs and laser dazzlers are"not known to any one"in the security agencies, P S Goel, Chairman of the Recruitment and Assessment Centre, DRDO, said delivering the Aryabhatta Lecture at the annual meeting of the Astronautical Society of India here.

Goel, who is also a member of the National Security Advisory Board, said security forces would have gained an upper hand while fighting terrorists at Hotel Taj Mahal or Nariman House had they used DRDO-developed weapons.

Stun grenades and chilli bombs have the capacity to paralyse persons within the vicinity of the explosion for a few minutes, while laser dazzlers cause momentary blindness.

"The inertia of the system (administration) is so great that these technologies are not available to the law enforcing agencies. We have failed in giving any advantage to our security forces,"he said.

Goel, former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, made a strong pitch for technologists to be a part of the national security apparatus.

" National security is too serious to be left to security agencies alone. Technologists must make it their business,"he said.

Very sad indeed.

So, lets understand this correctly. It is the corrupt and inefficient ruling setup that has caused this problem at the first place and you prescribe agent orange for tribals and poor villagers (I don't of course expect you to realise that the Naxals have grassroot support...any effective operation will harm countryside population).

Sorry, irrespective of the fact that I'm a card carrying saffronite, I'm beganing to see the reasons that causes villagers to support and shelter these insurgents.

And I no longer abhor the fact that the EJs have begun to exploit the angst, as our so called middle class consider their plight unworthy of attention.

Kerala on high alert after email threat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Security across Kerala was stepped up following an email threatening blasts if the demand for a separate Muslim state comprising some northern districts of the state was not met.

‘‘The email was sent to the offices of local TV channels on Wednesday night. We began investigations immediately. The origin of the mail has been traced to Dubai though the rest of the details are not known yet,’’ IG Tomin J Thachenkery, head of the cyber cell of Kerala police. The sender has introduced himself as Zakir Hussain, ‘commander’ of a newly formed outfit Militia Malabar Mujahideen. Sometimes, one image can show us how the security of India is not as simple as we might like it to be - IF we want to retain what makes us Indian, and what it is we are trying to defend.

The men in the picture are from SPG's Counter Assault Team. This unit was first publicly deployed during the last year's Independence day. You check out some of their pictures in the Mil forum picture thread. In that thread there is a picture of two commando with blue coveralls and BPJ's armed with AK's which I believe is the SWAT team referred to in the article.

sanjay kumar why are surprised? you should have atleast heard of big names like amjad ali khan, dagars, bismillah khan, zakir hussain etc are all ardent saraswati bhaktas. not mention people like malayalam writer vaikom basheer who lived as a yogi in the himalayas for a while. even with ordinary people this is common. in my town there is anjaneya temple which is heavily patronized by muslim women who bring their little kids to get a talisman tied that is supposed to ward off fear.

i dont know why it is surprising that there are apolitical people, even if a minority amongst them. when we diss islam at brf we are dissing the political part of it. should never forget that.
end bodha.

ganga jamni is india's contribution to the world. and krishna and saraswati have had a lot to do with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qli9tU5MJa0 (MSS sings jagadhodaarana, (poor ignorant)yashodha humored krishna by playing with him - the jagat ka uddhark. little did she know that the jagat ka uddhark was not just her son. thinking of him as just her son she played with him. she played with the gem amongst the beings as if he was merely her son ...

i was about to write about this. the story of krishna and yashodha is sort of unique, isn't it. every mother world over loves her son. and there are stories of all sorts of mothers. but there is only one yashodha and nothing like her story.

Home minister Chidambaram makes a statement
HYDERABAD: With his teenaged grand niece Kanthi, a badminton player herself, seated next to him, Union home minister P Chidambaram on Sunday watched the final day's action at the World Championships from the spectators' gallery at the Gachibowli stadium.

Chidambaram's visit was seen as an attempt to prove that there was no threat to the mega event. He flew into Hyderabad by a scheduled commercial flight and proceeded in a private car to the stadium, a 15-minute drive, unannounced.

Chidambaram, who was without any security cover, was on a private visit to the city, official sources said in New Delhi.

The home minister bought a Rs 1,000 ticket and proceeded to the spectators' gallery to watch the finals before he was spotted by the tournament organisers.

<SNIP>

Chidambaram said he was burning from inside after England decided to withdraw from the event. "Despite a statement made by me, one of the teams (England) withdrew and if I may say frankly, I was burning from inside when I saw that," the home minister said after coming out of the stadium.

Centre playing politics while dealing with terrorism: Modi

Hitting out at the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused it of playing politics while dealing with terrorism and said he "fails to understand" why it returned the anti-terror bill proposed by his state.

"When it comes to dealing with terrorists, we must draw a clear line between those who are on their side and those who are on the side of society," he said referring to the Centre rejecting his government's Gujarat Control of Organised Crime (GUJCOC) Act.

Modi said the anti-terror bill which had been pending with the Central government for a long time was returned to the state assembly recently with the directions to delete certain provisions.

"...I fail to understand why the central government should oppose provisions which are already part of the similar Acts in Karnataka and Maharashtra," he said while speaking at the Chief Minister's conference on Internal Security here.

The Chief Minister said, "even the so-called liberal democracies and proclaimed upholders of human rights like USA, Canada, Australia etc have enacted laws having more stringent provisions than the proposed GUJCOC Act."

Making a strong case for the proposed law, Modi said the need for such a legislation was not only for punishing the "perpetrators of terrorism" but also to prevent educated youth from being drawn into terrorist ideology.

Modi said it was "shocking and unfathomable" for him to understand the opposition from the Centre to the proposed bill, especially when the terrorists are getting support from across the border and working hand-in-glove with organised crime syndicates.

He also advocated "de-linking" the cases of convicted terrorists in death row from criminals involved in other crimes while considering their amnesty applications.

"Though I am of firm opinion that no such procedure of 'first in first out' need be followed in such cases, yet I would urge the Central Government to at least de-link the cases of such convicted persons who are involved in offences relating to anti-national, terrorist and subversive activities," he said.

"This the least that the sufferers of such terrorist attacks would expect from us as representatives of the States," Modi added.

The amendments by the Centre in the Criminal Procedure Code also came under criticism from Modi who alleged that these have tilted the balance in the favour of the "offenders and guilty".

"...the intention to carry out amendments may be noble to protect the innocent from harassment and to uphold the human rights, these amendments have somehow tilted the balance in favour of offenders and guilty," Modi said.

How strikingly similar to the Rabinder Singh episode, also involving a key intel official who also disappeared to the US.Was Bari also a US double agent all along?

Dhaka names ex-intelligence sleuth, diplomat as deserter
Ians August 16th, 2009
DHAKA - The Bangladesh government has declared as deserter an army brigadier general who was a top military intelligence official posted in its mission in Washington last year.

Brigadier General Chowdhury Fazlul Bari could face a court martial if he returns home, The Daily Star said Sunday.

Bari lives with his family in Washington after his leave was rejected and he relinquished charge at the embassy. He has the support of his in-laws who are American citizens.

Bari was the Number 2 man in the Directorate General of Field Intelligence (DGFI), the military intelligence organisation that is known to be used by successive governments for keeping a surveillance over political opponents, during the regime of Begum Khaleda Zia (2001-06).

His brother Chowdhury Ashraful Bari Noman, a leader of the Zia-led Bangladesh Nationalist Party, told the newspaper: “Bari told me he was never involved in any subversive activities or corruption, and (that) he will come home in future.”

Bari was posted to the US mission last year by a caretaker government that ruled Bangladesh during 2007-08.

The military authorities have declared Bari a deserter who defied repeated orders by the new government that took office in January this year.

“As he was declared a deserter last month, he can now be arrested at any time if he returns home,” the newspaper quoted an unnamed army source as saying.

Did they punish the guily cops? I missed out on this.

Added later:
Though state chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh ordered a judicial inquiry and suspended six commandos of the Manipur Police involved in the incident last week, people in the state have been asking the government to look into the reason of the `rising number' of alleged fake encounter cases.

Even officials here are quite convinced about `high-handedness' on the part of the state police as they pointed out that while other states like UP have been showing a decrease in the number of "fake" encounter cases, Manipur has been showing an increase which is quite disturbing.

Shravan garu,

There is a saying in telugu..."Raanu raanu raju gaari gurram gaadida ayyindi ata-which means as the time flew by the kings horse metamorphed into a stubborn and a lazy donkey", I guess the same applies for KCR. I guess he is trying to keep the very last dying embers of telangana issue alive and thus gain political mileage out of it. Being from telangana, from what I've heard is, the whole TRS party is nothing but a castle of cards...ready to fall any moment.
But let me make a prediction which I shall hope that it goes awfully wrong. There is a chance that this issue might come to the fore once again, in the current situation of drought and TRS might hijack the lack of monsoons to highlight the telangana issue once again and thus play with peoples emotions.
I wish somebody takes out this guy and says....ooops the gun misfired

Pakistani terrorist groups planning more attacks: Manmohan
NEW DELHI: Stressing that cross-border terrorism remains a most pervasive threat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said “there is credible information of ongoing plans of terrorist groups in Pakistan to carry out fresh attacks.”
{no sh!t :rotfl: }
Inaugurating the Chief Ministers’ Conference on Internal Security, he cautioned: “The area of operation of these terrorists today extends far beyond the confines of Jammu and Kashmir and covers all parts of our country.”

Dr. Singh told the Chief Ministers that in dealing with the terrorist challenge, “we need to be prepared for encountering more sophisticated technologies and enhanced capabilities.” He emphasised the need for guarding the sea frontier as vigilantly as the land border.

^^Well, since the Hon. PM has already ruled out a strong military response to TSP ("War is not an option"), what does he propose to do about and after the next terrorshit attack, pray?

Sadly, he will do what he valiantly did after 26/11 - nothing. He's already preparing the ground to slip and skip responsibility for the coming attack, seems like. jai ho indeed.

Seen and met Farhath Hussain, 98% likely to be Paki origin. I have been to one of his events many years ago. His brother lives not too far from me, he is big in the business too if I recall. He also brings the Paki artists to the UK for tours and the ones living in India like Adnan Sami.

Separate homeland plan for Muslims, Centre told

A confidential report sent by a security agency to the Centre says insurgent groups supported by Bangladesh were working on a long-term plan to create a separate homeland for Muslims in the North-Eastern region.

Intelligence reports have already pointed out that such groups are already coming up with posters and banners demanding homeland in areas dominated by the Muslims, mostly from suspected Bangladeshis.

After effecting a significant change in the demographic profile of a number of districts in the North-East by facilitating illegal infiltration of Bangladeshis, the insurgent outfits in the region are now working on a long-term agenda for creating an exclusive homeland for Muslims.

A confidential report from a key para-military force fighting insurgency in the North-East to the Union Home Ministry has classified insurgency in the region into three categories -- ethnic/extortionist, terrorist and secessionist groups.

The secessionists, according to the CRPF report, essentially comprise Islamic fundamental groups who also provide logistics support to the ethnic and terrorist groups in order to strengthen its influence in the region. “The insurgency situation in the North-East is dominated by what can be termed sub-national aspirations of groups within existing territorial divisions,” states the report, adding that the rest of the insurgent groups have ethnic aspirations.

Concerns about the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the North-East were raised by many Chief Ministers at the CMs' conference on security, which was recently held in Delhi. Expressing fears over the increasing influx of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants into his State, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said. “The decadal population growth rate between 1991 and 2001 as recorded in the 2001 census was 64.41 per cent — the highest in the country. Further, it is striking that the number of masjids and madrasas has increased from 27 to 28 in 2007 and 2008 in the State.”

Rio added, “During the same period (1991-2001), several areas in Dimapur and Wokha districts bordering Assam recorded exceptionally high rates of population growth. It is a fact that the silent and unchecked influx of illegal migrants in the district has played a crucial role in this abnormal growth and is slowly resulting in a change in the demographic profile of the inhabitants in certain parts of the State.”

Rio further said that such demographic changes required urgent attention as they would add to the tensions already prevailing in a volatile insurgency situation. The Nagaland CM also expressed apprehension over the involvement of Muslims in the NSCN (IM) for extortion and the community's involvement with HuJI and other terror groups.

“There is strong possibility of Islamic extremists establishing ‘sleeper cells’ in Nagaland by taking advantage of their contacts inside the State. Another possible scenario is that these Islamic extremist elements may either develop differences with the NSCN (IM) and form a rogue terrorist group or set up a new organisation with links to other Muslim extremist groups to further their own agenda,” the Nagaland CM had told the conference chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Similar apprehensions were also raised by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Arunachal Pradesh CM Dorjee Khandu, Tripura CM Manik Sarkar and Meghalaya CM DD Lapang.

As per the report by the Central Reserve Police Force, the number of insurgent groups in the North-East has surpassed the total number of such outfits at the national level and Islamists have infiltrated most of the groups.

With 43 active outfits in the small State of Manipur, it has exceeded the figures of active insurgent outfits reported for secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

While Assam has 38 active insurgent groups, Tripura has 32 similar organisations.

While both Meghalaya and Mizoram have six outfits each, Nagaland has four and Arunachal Pradesh has one insurgent group. In Manipur, Assam and Tripura, the terrorist groups have outnumbered the districts, highlights the report.

Inputs with the Centre also suggest that the groups have serious differences in terms of ideological positions, but there are various levels of operational understanding between them. The two main Naga outfits coordinate among various outfits in the region. The NSCN (K) has a functional understanding with ULFA and UNLF and the NSCN (IM) has similar arrangement with the PLA, ULFA and operational understanding with National Democratic Front of Bodoland and Kamtapur Liberation Organisation and NLFT. Most of these arrangements are for logistics such as training, movement, arms procurement and not direct operational intervention.

Despite the overall decline in insurgent activities, the spatial spread has not revealed any significant change. Active insurgent outfits -- like the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People's Liberation Army (PLA), Isaac-Muivah and Khaplang factions of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and National Liberation Front of Tripura -- represent the maximum levels of violent insurgent activities.

The year 2008 witnessed more violent incidents and deaths than the preceding year. According to the data available, 480 civilians and 742 insurgents were killed in 1,646 violent incidents in the North-East. Fifty-three security force personnel were killed in action and more than 1,000 arms were recovered from various terror groups.

In 2007, the region witnessed 1,490 violent incidents, in which 498 civilians and 503 insurgents were killed. During the period, 79 security personnel were also killed.

However, the number of bomb blasts decreased to 45 from a significant 83 explosions in 2007.

TROUBLE BREWING
- Insurgent groups supported by Bangladesh working on a long-term plan to create a separate homeland for Muslims in the North-East
- Such groups coming up with posters and banners demanding homeland in Muslim-dominated areas
- Insurgency in the region classified into three categories — ethnic/extortionist, terrorist and secessionist groups
- The secessionists essentially comprise Islamic fundamental groups and provide logistics support to the ethnic and terrorist groups
- With 43 such groups active in Manipur only, the figure of active insurgent outfits reported for secessionist activities is higher than in Jammu and Kashmir
