Tracking Errors in Defence reporting
Re: Tracking Errors in Defence reporting
One is a Wing Commander, the other is a Squadron Leader (Jain). No trainee pilots involved.

Re:
Yaa, Pati means husband.Vikramaditya is a 'she'
Ironically, the country, which refers its supreme commander of the armed forces - the president - as 'Rashtrapati or husband of the nation, despite being a woman, also follows the same
Like Senapati - who would be the husband of all the men in his command. Or prajapati - who would be the husband of his subjects.
I think vanaspati means "Husband of Dalda"

RPF commandos at CST
Based on pics in the Special Forces thread it seems to be the AK and not the INSAS.Dressed in black, they made their presence felt at the historic terminus on Thursday where they patrolled with Insas guns.
Complete lack of proof reading. 'u' and 'y' being next to each other a typo is left as it is. Shabby! Each commando will work for six hours a day and will have to keep fit. It is compulsory for them to train at the gum for two hours.
Re: Tracking Errors in Defence reporting
Has anybody seen 'Kaminey' - the movie. There a gun has been described as being INSAS. To my eyes it didnt look like INSAS (I have fired from one). Can anybody clarify?
I am adding a new chapter to this thread - adding wrong movie depiction to the DDM genre

Re: Tracking Errors in Defence reporting
it could be the INSAS with scope from what little I've seen but the weight and range as mentioned are clearly wrong.
it says weight 6.37 kg, range 700 m.
actual :
p.s. saw it again, it is the INSAS.
it says weight 6.37 kg, range 700 m.
actual :
just the scope can't account for that difference.Weight 4.25 kg (9.4 lb) empty
4.6 kg (10.1 lb) loaded
Effective range 450 m
p.s. saw it again, it is the INSAS.
Re: Tracking Errors in Defence reporting
^^^ Thanks Rahul. I was thoroughly confused while watching the scene in the movie.
Good to know that the director of the movie is somewhat better than the DDM. 6.37-4.6=1.77 kg - could it be the weight of the scope?
In some oblique way it also means that 'probably' the INSAS is now available in the grey market.

Re: Tracking Errors in Defence reporting
^^ Our DDM is not used to using search engines. Or maybe they dont have internet access. But anyways, over the course or years they have endowed the IAF with many different versions of Sukhoi aircraft. And we thought we only had the MKI.

50initially ordered
140 to be produced here
40 ordered in 2007
50 now being ordered
adds up tp 280 not 320
instead of 320 su-30mki,,it should be 280,,,Back in New Delhi, senior IAF officials confirmed that the case for Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 50 additional Su-30MKI has been sent to the defence ministry. (This is over and above the earlier 40 Su-30MKI being sought from Russia. With 230 aircraft to be assembled by HAL, the IAF will now have a total of 320 Su-30MKI aircraft.)

Hasn't DRDO perfected UBGL for INSAS? How close is the story to the facts??? And about the punching power of 5.56 mm, isn't it more advantageous to go in with more ammo and put three bullets in a neat circle rather than lug around fewer 7.62 mm ammo? If someone is hiding behind a brick wall would it make any difference if I have an INSAS or an AK?? Why not arm everyone with RPGs. More stopping power!!

I don't know where else to put it, so I am putting it here.
In this article:

In the 2nd last line of the 2nd paragraph it says "intested" instead of "infested" which really ruins the pleasure of reading such a juicy article.
I hope the gods, I beg your pardon -the mods- of BR would fix this problem because typos on such articles are very unpleasant.

Another glorious example of DDM.
Some people never learn. To bore a shaft 110 km deep inside earth safely -- I wonder if such tech exists at all.
....
In 1998, Santhanam was in charge of of mission of setting up a vast array of seismic instrumentation inside and on the surface outside of the 110 km deep shafts at the bottom of which the thermonuclear device was detonated.

the most shocking bit yet :
so P17 == 17 will be inducted !In addition, the multirole Shivalik-class frigate with stealth features is the first such warship built in India. It is made by the Mumbai-based Mazagaon Dock Limited, a public sector company. The navy will induct 17 of these frigates, planned for manufacture in various batches. The lead vessel is scheduled for commissioning in November.

project seabird is an initiative to develop a naval base to substitute mumbai, not a project to develop blue water navy which is a much larger program without any particular name.Project Seabird, an initiative to develop a blue water navy – a maritime force capable of operating across the deep waters of open oceans – was envisioned by Dawson during the same time but adopted only in the late 1990s.

"Project Seabird" was an initiative of the Indian Navy to develop a blue water navy and to acquire strategic depth. The project was first envisioned by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Oscar Stanley Dawson during the 1980s. However, the initiative was adopted in 1999, under the tenure of Defence Minister, George Fernandes, who spearheaded a new drive to realise the project.
A&N bases are not under project seabird. The first phase was completed in 2005 with the construction of a new naval base at Karwar in Karnataka state. Other maritime bases under the project in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep are well into their completion phases in 2009.

Upcoming Missile Tests
What does this mean, if anything?strategic experts feel the DRDO will definitely try to show India's mighty (might) which it claims is much superior in contemporary world.

Clearly Dr. Kalam is out of sight and mind.India’s President Pratibha Patil, the commander-in-chief of India’s armed forces, boarded a Russia-manufactured Su-30MKI jet of the Indian Air Force at the Lohegaon air base in Pune, for a unique thirty-minute flight. She is now not only India’s first woman president, but also the first president to have made a flight on board of supersonic warplane.
