They are from the exercise IN performed with the Aus Navy enroute to the PLAN Fleet Review. Check this BR gallery for the RAS exercise under 2009 events.

Do you remember seeing that version?

PLEASE NOTE

INS Mumbai does not yet seem to have the Barak SAMs

INS Ranvir has Barak SAM launchers. The EL 2221 STGR radar has replaced the Russian MR 104 NATO codename "Drum Tilt" radar

INS Ranvir has a EL 2238 radar, replacing the Russian MR 310 NATO codename "Head Net C" radar

INS Ranvir does niot have the aft SA N 1 SAM launcher nor the FCS NATO codename "Peel Group"

Yeah, I know what you are trying to do here.
But setting aside that, the camo of the trousers is truly new for me. Usually, when people point out different camos, they are some variations of the usual camo. But I have never seen such camo being worn by anyone in India.

Probably a local production of some camo patterned trousers. Brand is probably "USA Sports" judging by what is written on that. Looks like the SOG guys are pretty flexible with these things... Chaps look like they've been around the block a couple of times though... Good. :rotfl:

Aye.... the best camo in that picture is the air of nonchalance around those two gentlemen.

Folks, they are **local cops** not military or even para-military. So if you really need to, compare them to the rotund chappies you see at your nearest local police station. Not with Petraeus' pretty boys. Any angst over "camo standardization" etc needs to consider this - militants too love standardized camo as was unfortunately proven during the Clinton visit at Chattisinghpura. The likes of Pankaj Mishra sold that point very well in the west, if anyone remembers. So there are always pros and cons.

Weren't these the guys that the PDP had mucho takleef with? Did not know they had been re-formed/active still. Gurulog, any more info on current situation wrt SOG? IIRC the 'human rights' types had a gala time maligning them.

Life for the SOG chaps sure seems tough. Seems to me that the moment a Kashmiri signs up for the SOG, he becomes a marked man. Quite lot of hits seem to have taken place on them and their families over the years.

Brave chaps all of 'em.

Day 2 of operations:

An Indian soldier stands guard in Noor Takiya Khrew during a second day of fighting between militants and government troops in the forests south of Srinagar on October 7, 2009. Soldiers have shot dead five suspected Muslim militants on October 7 during different clashes in revolt-hit Indian Kashmir, the army said. Muslim rebels have been waging an insurgency since 1989 against India's rule of the region in a conflict that has killed more than 47,000 people by official count with separatists putting the toll twice as high.

Yes, I noticed a few of those too. Some of these look hideous and very poorly made (I'll take the weirdest looking INSAS over any of these). The old ones look old, but at least they look solid and reliable.

@ Sunil Upa

It doesn't seem to be like any weapon normally seen in the pix of the army. Could it not be one of the captured weapons in this or some other operation being put to use ? The valley must surely be aflush with captured weapons of all kinds and makes. Let's see if someone can actually identify the gun.
