Nice. It seems things are slowly getting serious about major India-US military cooperation. When it began with spec-ops exchanges and people were getting all excited, I was, "Meh, they (US) do it with everyone... what is there to talk about?" Now mechanized exercises - that is interesting!

By the way, I think IA should have been a bit more selective about who it teaches yoga. Me thinks older officers and SNCOs are more likely to appreciate it than junior officers and enlisted men. Should have given them something they can enjoy - like "cup-o'-tea". You know, the line between soft-power and soft-state, etc, etc...

Is that a Christian Cross?? if so then why does the Govt not remove it from the Building???

Looks like a six-point star to me; just a simple pillar capital.

The pillar is the famous "Jaipur column" topped by a six-pointed glass star. It is so called because it was built by the Raja of Jaipur as a gift to the capital of New Delhi.
Jaipur Column
The main structure is 640 feet wide and its sides are 540 feet deep (roughly 195 by 165 meters). The circumference at the base is a kilometere long. There is a vast court in front, T-shaped, with the horizontal line aligned with the front of the building. In the center of this jutting section stands the Jaipur Column, 145 feet(44.2 meters), topped by a bronze lotus from which rises a six-pointed glass star. The name of the column comes from the fact that its cost was borne by the Maharaja of Jaipur. An intresting details about the column is that inside the stone shaft runs a steel tube which tethers the lotus and the star, which weigh a little more than five tonnes, to a concrete block in the foundation.

Great pictures- but why do our troops not have access to regular stretchers? It's slightly strange to see a makeshift log/cloth stretcher being used. What if there were 3-4 injured soldiers? Would all of them have been transported in this primitive fashion?

Check out the first photo.. the cops are wearing USA style Helmets and if my eyes are not deceiving me, they are wearing sneakers instead of the usual boots... Could someone explain the logic behind the sneakers... Thanks.

Yeah its horrible

The BP jackets are too bulky

They have no knee protectors

They have no sense of uniformity - one wears a helmet other wears a beret - maybe they share the helmet??

Why is the helmet green??? and not dark blue or black to match the dungarees.

No gloves

No protective eyewear

Hope I covered all the faults

Good to see that the security forces are aquainting themselves with the possible locations of terror attack targets. After the images of the Taj were transmitted the world over, I think that most such locations all over the world have accepted the fact that they can be targets and have allowed access to security forces to conduct drills, know the property first hand etc.

Well if you guys look closely the guy wearing the helmet is the same guy who was sitting on top of the marksman. so may be helmet is for those who have to be exposed all the time.
Sneakers are just fine, its an urban setup, most of the things are predictable.
also i havent seen non-swat policeman wearing knee pads all the time. i wont worry about that too much.
i buy the argument of the heavy BPJ and no no gloves. things are not perfect but they are million time better than last year.

Any reason why MARCOS are being used for this role? Is it not the NSG that would undertake such an operation, especially after the hubs are formed?

Seriously Rahul Sir, I have nothing against the sneakers.. Makes it easier on the guys standing in bloody hot mid day sun... But I like them boots a lot, that's all...

Amen, Dutta Sir... But i don't mind the bulky BPJ's.. I guess Its just for showing that there are serious men here... And as i said earlier, i guess it would be uncomfortable to wear gloves in the heat of mumbai...

Not sure they are MARCOS, though Pangode Cantt in city outskirts apparently used to be their ancestral home (1983, as 340th Army Brigade). Things apparently turned full circle and they have a new amphibous (91st Infantry Amphibous Bde) unit being newly formed at Pangode Cantt. So am curious myself on who these chaps are and could not find a better quality photo.

Tea shop info: last year, heard reports from an uncle of mine (who is crazy and goes for his daily walk at 4:00 AM even in peak monsoon), of being startled by large number of soldiers doing quote "ninja acts" through the road in front of his house near Pangode. Also mentioned a "big canon on a thing with wheels-on-chains". yeah, as you could have guessed, he is not a jingo. But what impressed me was the fact that they did not want to awaken the neighborhood.

Then there is the other fact that the said hotel has a kickass bar. people drop in all the time 8)

Here is a picture of the festivities (dedicated solely for the Helmet-mujahids and BPJ-ayatollahs). Yes, he is wearing only a helmet and is deemed "topless" under international law :P

Huh? I thought "Star of India" was a five-point, flat star used in the British Indian flag (plus a bunch of miscellaneius stuff named after it).

The security forces on the BWSL are actually from Force 1.They dont have the right gear bcoz the Mah govt has delayed in issuing tenders for clothing and equipment. These are probably the first pictures of Force 1 on duty.Note the Mah Police logo in the second pic on the guys left arm.
