Indian secret agencies behind Lahore blast

Updated at: 1555 PST, Thursday, October 15, 2009

LAHORE: Lahore Commissioner Khusro Pervaiz Thursday said India’s intelligence agencies are involved in the attacks carried out today in Lahore. ……………………

The News

This is not the first time that the Lahore Commissioner has said that. Earlier on, when Pervaiz Elahi of PML-Q was the ruler of the Punjab during the benevolent regime of Gen. Commando Musharraf, it was quite understandable why the police and the administration were living in denial regarding the spread of Talibanism there. Now that PML-N and the super-efficient Sahbaz Sharif is there under a democratically elected government, why are the Police still living in denial ? The ANP recently said that the terrorists in FATA and Swat were coming from South Punjab and they wanted the PA to mount an operation similar to Swat and Malakand in South Punjab also. Ayesha Siddiqa who hails from Bahawalpur has recently written a comprehensive article on jihadi organizations and their recruitment in South Punjab. Editorial also appeared recently in Daily Times along the same lines. If Lahore Police Commissar is accusing India now after ascertaining the dead terrorists were really momin, what does it show other than the fact that whether it is PML-Q or the Army or PML-N or the PPP, they are all together in sustaining terror outfits in the Punjab because they expect that these terrorists are and will be useful against India even if they are embedded as part of AQAM/Neo-Taliban and even if there is collateral damage. After all, what are a few momin lives in the ultimate 'jihad fi sabilillah' against kufr India ?

Reuters analysis:

SCENARIOS: Can things get any worse for Pakistan?
By Andrew Marshall, Asia Political Risk Correspondent
A second risk scenario is that Pakistan's government and military, facing prolonged instability and eager to neutralize the internal threat from militants, fall back on the old strategy of trying to export unrest. In a divided and unstable country, animosity toward India is one of the few unifying factors.

Pakistani authorities may decide that renewed confrontation is a price worth paying to keep a lid on internal unrest.

AQ and Talibs going all out? Is it in response to the Waziristan initiative the PA is taking up?

Those "magnificent Pak-men in their fighting machines"!
Like Edgar Hoover's famous FBI "G-Men",Pak has its own counterpart, their "Pak-Men" who can solve within seconds of a bomb blast, the culprits.

One must pay a compliment indeed to the fantastic intelligence apparatus of the Paki war machine, that within minutes of the Lahore attacks, and now the Peshawar blast, they knew that India was behind it.Such speed of detection is unheard of in any country, except for Pakistan, where within seconds of Benazir's assassination, the evidence was swept clean, because the Pakis knew who was going to do it all along and no evidence was needed! If only this same apparatus could detect the attacks before they took place. But then how can the Pak-men display their detection capabilities that make Sherlock Holmes look like a pensioner on the prowl looking for his misplaced fasle teeth? We must applaud their telepathic powers, truly in the same class of Nostradamus.

PS:What will really make my day is for the Pak-Men to wage war against their very own would-be political masters, the Zardars and Gilanis. That spat is eagerly awaited.

Taliban chief threatens to fight India from 'Islamic Pakistan'

October 15, 2009 17:51 IST

As his militants triggered a series of attacks and suicide blasts across Pakistan on Thursday, Taliban [ Images ] chief Hakimullah Mehsud threatened to dispatch terrorists to fight India, once an Islamic state had been created in Pakistan.

"We want an Islamic state. If we get that, then we will go to the borders and help fight the Indians," Hakimullah said in footage aired by Britain's Sky News channel.

The channel said it recently acquired the footage of Hakimullah, who has claimed responsibility for several attacks across Pakistan over the past week, including a terrorist assault on the Pakistan army's [ Images ] general headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi over the weekend.

"We are fighting the (Pakistan) military, police and militia because they are following American orders. If they stop following the orders, we will stop fighting them," said Hakimullah, in what was seen as a desperate last-minute effort to stop Pakistan army's offensive into his group's stronghold Waziristan.

Hakimullah was named the new chief of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan after his predecessor Baitullah Mehsud was killed in a drone attack by the United States in Waziristan in August.

Hakimullah recently met several journalists to dispel reports that he had died during clashes with a rival militant faction.

Sky News also reported that the Pakistani Taliban had bolstered their finances through the sale and manufacture of drugs like heroin. The Taliban were also extorting protection money from businesses in Afghanistan, it reported.

The fissures within the Pakistani establishment...

“We cannot fight the Taliban when the army and the government are at loggerheads,” said Jahangir Tareen, a member of parliament from the province of Punjab and a former Federal Minister.

The interior minister, Mr. Malik, a confidant of President Asif Ali Zardari, was prevented from entering the army headquarters on Wednesday for a ceremony he had been invited to, apparently because he has fallen into disfavor with the military command.

Davood Moradian also says that the US and UK full well know the malign role of the ISI in fomenting terrorism in Afghanistan but lack the “courage” to confront the Islamic Republic of Pakistan :

INTERVIEW - Pakistan spies stoke violence - Afghan advisor

Thu Oct 15, 2009 6:50pm IST

By William Maclean

LONDON (Reuters) - A Pakistani spy agency is helping anti-Western militants mount attacks including suicide bombings in Afghanistan, a reality the West lacks the resolve to confront, an advisor to the Afghan government said on Thursday.

Davood Moradian, senior policy advisor to Foreign Minister Rangeen Dadfar Spanta, told Reuters the motive of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency was to arouse Western concern for stability in neighbouring nuclear-armed Pakistan and use it to obtain financial support for Islamabad. ...............................

"We produced such proof in respect of the Indian embassy bombing in Kabul last year. There were telephone records of the ISI officers directing, and we shared that information with the intelligence community," Moradian said.

"The intelligence community in Washington and London agree (with the allegations) but they are not in a position to make policy," said Moradian, speaking on the sidelines of a seminar at Britain's International Institute for Strategic Studies.

"They have passed that (information) to their political masters to make decisions, but their political masters do not have that courage. When it comes to the ISI we do not see that bravery on the part of the international community." ...............................

interesting but predicted by me and others in varIous islamic threads of this forum in days gone by.

Islamism/Islamic extremism first attacks its own to get uniformity and order. it then goes outside to try and bring kafirs into the fold or eliminate. I was hoping to see this come to pass in Pakistan.

Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah... Dharma protects the protector (of Dharma).. India's behaviour has been in sync with Raaj-Dharma by and large.. There indeed is certain moral high ground which India possesses.. Increase in material strength makes it difficult to ignore and overrule the Dharma..As kabir said, "Bhay bin hoy na preet". There can never be respect without fear

One way to interpret this is its a good recruitment ploy of Taliban. Taking away the perception of Indian support to them helps gain legitimacy in the eyes of paki abduls and bolster their stand against Pak state. India MEA should appropriately give out a "rebuttal" but if already not doing so, actively engage them covertly and influence their policy.

The Taliban make a very good recruiting point. So whats the difference between present TSP and Taliban ruled TSP? Actually only practical implementation of Sharia in the promised Land of the pure, Taliban style. The Taliban are enraged that the PA seems taking a US side while at the same time they don't mind Talibs taking over Afghanistan after the US leaves Afghan. Which indeed is hypocrisy on part of the GOP and TSPA. Remember 2004 PA tried attacking Taliban in Waziristan but withdrew after signing a peace treaty with tribals in the region.

The attack on the elite school was particularly unnerving because its graduates, trained in counterterrorism techniques, are considered the toughest in the province. Surfing through different comments on the attack in Pak, cannot but notice the huge amount of comments by Indians smirking and calling it chickens coming home to roost.

If the tactically brilliant Pakis had not done a 26/11, im certain that majority of the comments would have been about poor brotherly Pak and how India should help them.

Thanks Pakis and their brilliance for managing to make enemies out of most ordinary Indians who otherwise wouldn't have been.

Obama signs Kerry Lugar Bill
.
.
.
The US Congress on Wednesday issued an “explanatory statement” in an effort to placate the concerns of Pakistan on the aid bill which says that the legislation does not seek in any way to compromise Islamabad’s sovereignty and impinge on its security interests.

“There is no intent to, and nothing in this Act in any way suggests that there should be, any US role in micromanaging internal Pakistani affairs, including the promotion of Pakistani military officers or the internal operations of the Pakistani military,” said the explanatory note attached to the Enhanced Partnership with Pakistan Act of 2009.

'Al-Qaeda leaders are in Pak, why sending troops to Afghan?'

Washington, Oct 15 (PTI) An influential US Senator has asked the Obama Administration to explain how sending more troops to Afghanistan would help in defeating al-Qaeda when its top leaders have moved to Pakistan's unruly tribal areas.

The Senator was reacting to the Obama Administration's recent statement that al-Qaeda has now moved to Pakistan and most of its top leaders are in its tribal areas.

"I am compelled to ask: Does it take 100,000 US troops to find Osama bin Laden? If al-Qaeda has moved to Pakistan, what will these troops in Afghanistan add to the effort to defeat al-Qaeda?" Senator Robert Byrd said on the floor of the US Senate.

While Obama's signature ink still dries on the KL bill...

With friends like the US, Pakistan doesn't need enemies - Simon Tisdall (Guardian UK)

By linking the cash to tighter civilian control of Pakistan's military, Washington was trying, clumsily, to strengthen Asif Ali Zardari's government. But it achieved the exact opposite. The president was accused of failing to defend the country's sovereignty, much as he has failed to halt escalating American cross-border air raids, and the occasional covert ground incursion, on targets inside Pakistan.
"Poll after poll shows Pakistanis increasingly do fear the threat posed by Islamic extremists ... but they believe the US is an even bigger danger to their country," Bruce Riedel of the Brookings Institution was quoted as saying this week. Many Pakistanis rated the threat posed by the US to their independence and security above that from historical foe India, he said. "Any time you out-poll India as the bad guy in Pakistan you are in deep trouble."
The realisation that Washington is stoking a conflict approaching all-out civil war is gradually dawning in the US. New York Post columnist Ralph Peters drew a comparison with post-invasion Iraq. "Civil war never quite happened [there]. Yet no one seems to notice that we're now caught up in two authentic civil wars – one in Afghanistan, the other in Pakistan," he said. By lumping the two together in one "Afpak" policy, the Obama administration had effectively made both problems worse.
