MARCOS, NSG, FORCE1?
NSG Special Raners Group... I guess they were deployed near the vehicle parking for the VIP convoys as a visual deterrence and also effective security...Gaur wrote:

I think it is more of feeding the "beast" of western mind set. I can't wait for pic of GI Joe/s riding an elephant along with IA folks.Raja Bose wrote:desi jawans are up and close with the beast - must have taken some commando courseGagan wrote: Err,
Can't help noticing the respectable distance the 'visitors' keep from the 'beast'.
IIRC, the unique (some may say unaesthetic)design of phatkas is due to unique requirements of IA. Regular helmets cannot be worn by Sikh soldiers. Hence the patkhas, which can be worn by everybody.AdityaM wrote:What is the headgear worn by the men in the above pics called?
They are not the regular helmets and have been worn by the army for a long time.
Does it provide better protection compared to the regular IA helmets?
If yes, then why dont all troops wear them?
The pant camo looks very much Indian Army..........but yes helmets are different and also a different camo on them............Paras may be using new helmets..............or maldivian soldiers training with tavorsGaur wrote:From Livefist

Are they paras or Maldivian Troops training with TAVORs?
The helmet and t-shirt look very different to me.

Thanks
So the photos of the MPV you posted a few pages earlier are based on the Stallion trucks...Aditya G wrote:You mean Casspir.
These are OFB produced and based on Ashok Leyland chassis AFAIK.

AK and Tavor are CQB weapons. Doesn't make sense carrying both. However, a squad marksman using an Insas based sniper and Tavor as secondary weapon does. Hence, my guesstimate.shashank_c wrote:KiranM wrote:^^^

Looks like fixed stock Kalashnikov
Tavor is not a CQB weapon. It is more convenient to use in CQB situations because of its relative compactness due to bullup design. However, its range is in no way a limited as compared to other assault rifles.KiranM wrote: AK and Tavor are CQB weapons. Doesn't make sense carrying both. There are many other pics of Tavor with UBGL, specially with para.atreya wrote:The third last pic. Tavor with UBGL!! I am seeing it for the first time!
Oh got the point..............Does army uses squad marksman, on a regular basis.............or is it only limited to Paras?KiranM wrote:

Rahulda..It was me.. I raised it again since the post indicated that these were built on AL chassis... Sorry if OT...Rahul M wrote:bala, was it you I had a discussion with about stallion/MPV sometime back ?
anyway, I was looking over my old collection and I found that around the time casspirs were inducted, (late 90's) some of their engines were malfunctioning (mercedes made engines IIRC) and those were replaced with sumo engines with good results.
I agree with that. Some pig would peeing in his pants, when he comes face-to-face with this guy!! He looks young to me too. But maybe, only his build is slight!Bala Vignesh wrote:^^ The guy with the UBGL fitted Tavor has a pretty mean look in his eyes.. Wouldn't want to cross him when he's holding that weapon... And is it just me or is that guy really young...
