I would assume they are the SAG since not sure if the SRG (composed of paramils) are actually seen in/given "combat gear" (like in the above pic) and are usually seen in "normal" black uniform(with beret) surrounding the likes of Mayawati, Mulayam etc...

Look at the assignment profile here,they are in escort/protection duty over here,SAGs are not allotted these type of duties,hence my conclusion,I maybe wrong though.

Yes, it is silenced a mp5. I think its MP5SD3 but I cannot say for certain.

Note that this commando does not carry the silenced version.

What is the headgear worn by the men in the above pics called?
They are not the regular helmets and have been worn by the army for a long time.

Does it provide better protection compared to the regular IA helmets?
If yes, then why dont all troops wear them?

IIRC, the unique (some may say unaesthetic)design of phatkas is due to unique requirements of IA. Regular helmets cannot be worn by Sikh soldiers. Hence the patkhas, which can be worn by everybody.

The pant camo looks very much Indian Army..........but yes helmets are different and also a different camo on them............Paras may be using new helmets..............or maldivian soldiers training with tavors

You mean Casspir.

These are OFB produced and based on Ashok Leyland chassis AFAIK. There are two models, the smaller one is based on Tata model. There are some good pics out there of these deployed with CRPF in Chattisgarh.

India should make our COIN forces the best equipped and best protected in the world. I hope these are mass produced.

bala, was it you I had a discussion with about stallion/MPV sometime back ?

anyway, I was looking over my old collection and I found that around the time casspirs were inducted, (late 90's) some of their engines were malfunctioning (mercedes made engines IIRC) and those were replaced with sumo engines with good results.

This is an advertisement from Ordanance Factory that came in yesterday's Hindustan Times. Check out the 2 camos. I have seen the jungle camo but I am yet to see that desert camo.

Tavor is not a CQB weapon. It is more convenient to use in CQB situations because of its relative compactness due to bullup design. However, its range is in no way a limited as compared to other assault rifles.

Technically, AK is also not a CQB weapon. But it is inaccurate at long ranges, so I somewhat get your point.

Oh got the point..............Does army uses squad marksman, on a regular basis.............or is it only limited to Paras?

AFAIK Israeli army also uses standard Tavor as a marksman rifle..........with a bipod and ACOG sight

no, it's not OT.

there appears to be 3 different looking MPV designs from the sarkari stables, one based on stallion, one on tata and another of unknown lineage which looks more like the casspir ?
so it could be that you were right about the stallion lineage of the pic we discussed. unfortunately, till now none of the pics have positively IDed which version is based upon which basic truck design. incidentally ashok leyland is also developing a MPV design.

I agree with that. Some pig would peeing in his pants, when he comes face-to-face with this guy!! He looks young to me too. But maybe, only his build is slight!
