Rejuvenation of Indian armed forces is still a distant dream
With deliberately backed cross border infiltration by Pakistani army on one side and the arm twisting by the Chinese on the other side has forced the Indian think-tankers to rejuvenate the armed forces. Having said so, the politicians have always denied the need of upgrading the Indian armed forces since mid 60’s. But the recent procurement policies have come under the scanner and heavy criticism of defense analysts and expert.
In this era of information warfare, India is ranked 3rd in the arms importers list after China, which is 7% and 11% accordingly. One of the latest deal signed by India is with Israel for BARAK 8(SAM) which is expected to replace the age-old PECHORA currently serving with the IAF. Barak 8 is a land based air defense system with almost doubling the range of 60km vertically. The deal is signed against mouth whooping $1.1billion.But the flip side of the deal unveils a naked truth, i.e., the delivery date is 2017 (expected).
By the time our armed forces inducts it, the cutting edge technology will outplay the Barak 8 technology and we will have to search for the alternative then. So, is there a lack of willingness to well equip our forces amongst the political genre or it is a sheer lack of interest towards the nation; overhauling the vote bank, is still a million dollar question.

Mr. Sengupta:
If you feel passionately about this topic (and I hope you do) please write up a good 3000 - 5000 word essay exploring the issues, check up on what has been written on it by others over the years, look at how other countries have handled this issue for their armed forces, see what might be applicable from there for India, explore the costs down the line if this is neglected, see WHY this has been happening (in depth, and including the perspective of those entrusted with seeing that it does not happen, not ignorant bashing). Make sure you are up to a minimum of 30 good references (more like 100 given how much has been written on this), and tie up the loose ends, make well-considered conclusions, each of which is shown by evidence inside the paper, then make practical recommendations.
Send this to the Security Research Review (see SRR thread stickie on the forum). THEN there can be a very useful thread discussing your paper, and you may become the duniya's greatest expert on the subject, and be invited by GOI to the National Security Agency meetings where I hear they serve nothing but the best. Chai and biscoot.
Cheers

And I happen to think that you are eminently able to develop such an article and discussion, now that my slooooow brain came around to processing the info.
Welcome to BRF. You may want to ask for a new user ID. We only ask for human-sounding names, doesn't matter much whose it is, and the more anonymous/uncorrelated the better.
