Andhra Pradesh IT minister K Venkat Reddy set the cat among pigeons when he said that some ministers were encouraging the resignations. "We don't know what their motive is but it is unfortunate," he said.

Legislators from Rayalaseema began the resignation in protest against the Congress high command's move to set up Telangana. Most of those offering to quit are known loyalists of late CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and were at the forefront to install his son, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, as his successor. Their move was in vain after the Congress high command backed Rosaiah.

Some Congress MLAs might have done because of Jagan. But don't get distracted by it as there was mass swell cutting across the parties.

It became kind of panic race about who resigns first, TDP or Congress, to show who is for United AP. In Congress Vijayawada MP L. Rajgopal started. In TDP MLA Y. Keshav started it. Rumor is that all those resigned got support from the people regardless of party securing a seat if they run again. When there is such guarantee to win again, they are ready to "sacrifice" the current post.

In that regard I would credit Amma with doing more to stop the uber radicalization. I think with MK gone and with the St-Ma combine gaining power TMs would be kept in check because they do not want any challengers to their absolute hold over TN. Fanning the sparks of religious hatred to achieve their own goals will backfire just like Coimbatore Dt. or Kanyakumari Dt. and they understand this well. That will also give a break for the BJP-RSS combine to make an entry into State politics and who knows we may even produce a NaMo  They might start some minority appeasement in the coastal districts and the south which have a large contingent of Muslim-Xtian population but in Kongunaad and West/Central TN where the population is predominantly Hindu and the money/power centres lie with industrial groups that are known to back the BJP-RSS they will not attempt anything untoward.

TOI has few interesting headlines:

Telangana move splits AP parties on regional lines

Has lot of details on reactions inside the parties and also MIM is probed.

Telangana - Why Congress went on fast forward move

Looks like at the core they see they can gain Telangana for haveing brought it forward.

but from reaction could also lose Andhra?

Telangana assets will be divided amiacably

Has crucial details of the economics issues. Looks like Telangana was quite neglected politically by the Andhra leadership. 3 CMS from Telangana ruling for six years in 53 years. Something is wrong with the picture.

A fact I didnt know Telangana provides 50% of state exchequer. Of this how much from Hyderabad we dont know.

Telangana unlocks tempest - 98 MLAs ‘quit’ in backlash
...
All MLAs from non-Telangana regions, cutting across party lines, will boycott the Assembly session tomorrow.

The rebellion forced the Congress to put off tabling the statehood resolution necessary for introducing a bill in Parliament. For the resolution to be passed, the Congress will require a two-thirds majority of the House, which means the support of at least 196 MLAs. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the flag-bearer of the agitation, has only 10 seats.

Industrialist T.G. Venkatesh, a Congress legislator from Kurnool, one of the Rayalaseema districts, said if Hyderabad had to be given to Telangana, the people of other regions, who have heavily invested in infrastructure, hospitality, the film industry as well as land, should get a compensation of over Rs 2 lakh crore.

The city, once notorious for communal riots and the land and construction mafia, was opened up for non-Telangana people during the Desam regimes of N.T. Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu, who said today his party would oppose bifurcation of Hyderabad.

Going by Hindu headlines in the Regional section the Telangana move by Congress has setoff numerous separatist demands which were suppressed till now. Naipaul's million mutinies are coming home to roost.

One article had an interesting demand to merge Rayalseema with Telangana as it was before it got ceded to the EIC.

Congress eyes long-term gain in Telangana- Bid to silence cave-in buzz
...
The Congress is troubled by two possible messages that may have gone out.

One, that the party, much stronger after the 2009 poll victory, had caved in at the first real political crisis it faced; and two, that a relatively small-time leader like K. Chandrasekhar Rao, beaten soundly in the last election, could force the party’s hands.

Some leaders conceded that the Congress would have liked to create Telangana on its own terms instead of yielding to Rao’s fast and the “manageable” street violence. Yet, Rao’s failing health had indeed created panic.
...
...
Sonia had been convinced by pro-Telangana leaders that the best way to finish off Telugu Desam leader N. Chandrababu Naidu and contain the influence of Jaganmohan Reddy was to divide the state.

A Telangana state would have been unthinkable during YSR’s tenure but his exit had given the high command an opportunity to exert its authority.
...
...
Congress leaders, therefore, believe the decision will bring political benefits in the long run. Jaganmohan, whose base is Telangana, is expected to get weakened because of his father’s anti-statehood stand.
...
...
Party leaders are now determined to crush dissidence. The 21 Lok Sabha and eight Rajya Sabha MPs who had gone to meet Sonia this evening to lodge a protest were bluntly told to accept the high command’s decision. Sonia said the decision had been taken keeping in mind the welfare of both Telangana and Andhra.

So its as we suspected. Its internal INC fight and fear of satraps that led to the division of the State.

The Telegraph is INC loyalist and might have some insight but the reproter has many of his facts jumbled up. Shows lack of good editors at the paper.

Eg:
Congress leaders, therefore, believe the decision will bring political benefits in the long run. Jaganmohan, whose base is Telangana, is expected to get weakened because of his father’s anti-statehood stand.

They counted PV -2 1/2, Anjiah -2 1/2, Chenna Reddy -1

Telangana Marginalised
FIFTY years of AP’s history shows that the economic development process has marginalized the Telangana region of the State. Before the merger with Andhra State, Telangana, which was part of the Hyderabad State, was doing well in terms of agricultural and industrial development.
The irrigation policies illustrate the discrimination against Telangana. The governments in AP gave high priority to irrigation in the five-year plans and Rs 12,104 crore was spent on it between 1956 and 2002. This constitutes nearly 25 per cent of the total plan outlay from the II Plan to IX Plan. As a consequence net irrigated area increased from 27.47 lakh hectares to 55 lakh hectares between 1955-56 and 2001-02. A lion’s share, 90 per cent, in the public expenditure on irrigation was allocated for major and medium irrigation and minor irrigation received only 10 per cent of the allocation. This policy has resulted in the decline of the minor irrigation particularly tank irrigation and consequently the net area under tank irrigation declined from 10.68 lakh hectares to 5.67 lakh hectares between 1955-56 and 2001-02. In contrast the net area irrigated by canals has gone up from 12.92 lakh hectares to 15 lakh hectares between 1955- 56 and 2001-2002. The deterioration of the tank irrigation system has an adverse affect on Telangana more than the other regions because tanks have been the backbone of Telangana agriculture. Further, the loss of the area under the tank irrigation has not been compensated by allocation of river waters.

In fact the benefits of major irrigation have gone to coastal Andhra. In 2003-04, 6.93 lakh hectares of area irrigated under canals was located in four coastal districts of the State - East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur.

The corresponding figure for 2004-05 is 8.34 lakh hectares.

Nearly 60 per cent of the net area irrigated under canals is located in these four districts and the balance 40 per cent is shared by the other 18 districts. For example in the nine Telangana districts the area irrigated under canals in 2003- 04 was 1.36 lakh hectares which fell to 1.16 lakh hectares in 2004-05. Even under Jalayagnam the discrimination continues, 26 projects are contemplated under the Jalayagnam to irrigate 59 lakh hectares of which 43 lakh hectares will be in Andhra region and only 16 lakh hectares in Telangana.

Almost all the projects being taken up in Telangana are lift irrigation schemes under which only drip and sprinkler irrigation is permitted, according to the latest policies of the Government. Under drip and sprinkler irrigation the farmers will have to invest heavy amounts to get the benefits of irrigation.

The neglect of irrigation in Telangana has forced the farmers in the region to rely more on well irrigation. The area irrigated by wells has gone from 2.34 lakh hectares to 19 lakh hectares between 1955-56 and 1999-2000 in the State. In Telangana the area under well irrigation went up from 9.44 lakh hectares in 2003-04 to 9.95 lakh hectares in 2004-05. (See “An Outline of Agricultural Situation in AP 2004-05”).

For each acre of land irrigated by surface irrigation 2.38 acres is irrigated by ground water in Rayalaseema and in Telangana the corresponding figure is 2.75 acres. Whereas in coastal districts only 0.28 acres is irrigated under wells for every acre irrigated by canals. (S. Subrahmanyam, 2002).

The heavy dependence on ground water has resulted in fall in the ground water table in Telangana as a consequence the traditional dug wells have dried up. Farmers have shifted to deep bore wells, which require energised motors, to draw water. As a result dependence on electricity has increased in the Telangana districts. All these has forced the farmers to invest huge amounts, from agriculture surpluses, to secure irrigation facilities leading to a major crisis in the agrarian economy of the region.

At the time of merger of Telangana with Andhra State certain safeguards were guaranteed to Telangana through a Gentlemen’s Agreement. As per the agreement Telangana resources have to be utilized for the development of the region in accordance with the plans prepared by the representatives of the region. If the agreement were to be seriously implemented all the schemes proposed by the Hyderabad Government too would have been constructed to divert nearly 1,000 tmcs of Krishna and Godavari water to irrigate the fields in the region. Today, on record, Telangana gets a mere 277 tmc of water, which is far less in reality. If the Jalyagnam is implemented Telangana will lose its share in the river water permanently. The same situation prevails in the other sector too.

Telangana is thus marginalized and converted into an internal colony as a result of economic development process pursued by the successive governments. Its resources are diverted and utilized for the development of other regions.

The movement for separate statehood articulates the demand for a fair share in the resources.

Another statehood demand in Andhra Pradesh

Pioneer article, posting in full.
Politicians from Andhra Pradesh's Rayalaseema region on Thursday demanded separate statehood for the backward region, saying they would agree to division of the state to create Telangana only if their demand for Greater Rayalaseema is acceded to.

Cutting across party lines, the leaders, including legislators from the ruling Congress, opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Praja Rajyam, made it clear that Andhra Pradesh could be divided only if their region was also made a separate state.

This would mean that the present state has to be divided into three states - Telangana, Greater Rayalaseema and Andhra.

"Andhra Pradesh should not be divided but if you are dividing it then form Greater Rayalaseema alongside Telangana and make coastal Andhra a separate state," said T.G. Venkatesh, Congress legislator and convenor, Forum for the Rights of Rayalaseema.

Venkatesh, who has been raising the demand for the development of Rayalaseema region, said they would not agree to the formation of a separate Telangana state.

The people of Rayalaseema, comprising four districts, complain of backwardness and neglect by successive state governments.

Several legislators from the region Thursday submitted their resignations to protest the central government's decision to carve out a separate Telangana state.

The people of the region are not ready to merge with Andhra in the event of formation of Telangana state.

"We have always made sacrifices. The capital was shifted from Kurnool to Hyderabad and now they want to make far-off Vijayawada or Guntur as the capital. This is not acceptable to us," said another Congress legislator Pratap Reddy.

Kurnool, a part of Rayalaseema, was capital of Andhra State till 1956 when Andhra State was merged with Telangana to form Andhra Pradesh.

Venkatesh and other leaders have called for a shutdown in Rayalaseema on Friday to press for the demand for separate statehood.

Yes Congress is below majority if speaker considers resignations.

As for what's happening:

- Entire coastal AP and Rayalaseema is completely shutdown.

- They shutdown all the dances of TRS and Congress in one day by doing democratic protest.

- Entire elected representatives of all bodies (MP, MLA, MLC, Zilla Parisadh, Municiple, Mandal/Panchyat)
are resigning in an unprecedented and historic way.

This is BS of highest order and spin to justify Telangana. There are some facts of geography and one should have some honesty. Assume that there is no Dam building technology for a while, the rivers will end up in sea and will flow from highlands to lowlands. From times immemorial Krishna and Godavari districts are always the delta areas. Those districts are named after the rivers. Even after dam and water management technologies emerged, you cannot build three gorges type dams everywhere. India was s h i t poor and we were importing rice from US after independence. India wanted to quickly get food security and hence started green revolution. When it started green revolution, India is not a Trillion dollar economy to look after equitible agricultural investment taking regional aspects. It just invested quickly to make fast output and hence dams were built where with minimum investment they can bring the food security. This resulted in development of Guntur, Prakasam districts and also Nellore district.

When whining about Telangana's backwardness do not compare to agricultural output of Punjab or delta districts of AP. Compare and contrast with Northern Karnataka, Vidharbha in Maha and then tell if Telangana is developed in terms of agriculture or urban development.

It is okay if Telangana is formed but there is a need for some intellectual honesty. As a compensation to not being able to give agricultural projects, most of central government/state government industrial projects are given to Telangana region. The armaments factory in medak, all kinds of Railway factories, zonal headquarters, DRDO, armed forces related industires, HAL etc. etc. are all in Telangana region. India's first REC is in Warangal. IIT is also in Telangana.

In fact the real raw deal was to Rayalaseema as they do not have either water resources not they have the central projects of the scale that are implemented in Telangana region.

Spreading crap is very easy on internet.

There are no cultural differences too and all of AP has exact same culture. There are Telugu accent differences between various regions of AP.

Though one languaga why should there be an imbalance in development? Ofcourse Telangana region some areas such as Hyderabad and a few other places developed byt compared to Coastal there is nothing. the Existence of Naxal movement itself shows that there is an under development in this part (ofcourse I do not argue Naxals as representatives of poor people). So when this status quo of exploitation and neglect of a particular region is questioned and a fair share is to be given then people in power tend to protest and wish to restore their power and authority of exploitation here. Without feeling marginalised telangana region would have never asked for a separate state. Also it is not imposed from outside rather people asked for themselves at least to some extent.

This was inevitable now I don't know nothing about the situation on ground zero but if newspapers and media are to go by the way the two kept on propagating the message that "Telangana is discriminated against /Telangana a backward region ..yada yada" one could tell that political forces behind the movement were pretty strong , ask any layman on the street who makes an opinion based on daily news/newspapers he would say it is a welcome step .

One can never predict how such things will pan out in the future I hope that whatever political party gains power in Telangana keeps the naxal movement in check from the first day .

^^Agreed. JJs post is clearly beyond the pale. Inflammatory and intended to hijack (lowjack?) the thread, IMHO.

More generally, re the economic sustainability of small states - how viable are they? Almost all small states (except Goa and Delhi) take inlarge doses of central largesse to keep babucracy payrolls rolling, IIRC.

A new state implies a total duplication of the netire administrative machinery - a new High Court, a new DGP and IG level position, new chief secy and entire state cadre and so on. Small states (say, a Gorkhaland) won't be viable simply because supporting so much with a few lakh population is infeasible. A union territory is a much better option out. Gives the gorkhalanders separation from WB domination and also leeway to run their affairs ina much more viable way, IMO.

negi,

there are political stories and then some political stories. The newspapers and CBN "said" they will agree to telangana. Everyone on the ground knew that it was BS and just token statements to get along with TRS. It was the same with the local congress. You think the voters are fools? They knew all along that these were "I am transform Bihar into Japan in 3 months", "I will crush Varun with bare hands" type stories. Simply put, they were "politically" correct statements which you mouth, but never going to happen. "Telangana is most backward and most victimised and we will support new state" was as politically correct and falsehood as "Gujarat riots is more than Hitler's extermination and all pregnant ladies were taken out and ripped apart".

However Sonia Rajmata Maino thought otherwise and the result is before us.

I hope by Bellary Reddys, you meant the three brothers who tried to scuttle the BJP Govt. in Karnataka. These chaps are said to have some connections with AP politicians, but their revenue generation happens essentially from their mines in Karnataka. Now the "Three Musketeers" are also facing a CBI enquiry on charges of illegal mining. Hence you find them not even trying their tricks with the BJP Govt (Mr. Yeddiyurappa to be precise). "Three Musketeers" have to save their own back-side before meddling in some body else's affairs.

Sachin,

Just before this telangana flare up, those brothers were the talk of town in AP. There was atleast 7-10 days of continuous front page attacks on them and linking them to YSR/Jagan. He has mines on this side of the border.

So ruling them out of this turmoil is not easy. Add to that Bellary is basically a border district and was initially part of Raayalseema before linguistic re organisation (thus part of greater rayalseema demanded). So one way or other, they will effect the proceedings.

Regarding Bellary brothers, the reason for INC not alligning with them to topple KA government is because it feared INC getting toppled by Jagan in AP. Historically, INC never leaves an oppurtunity to topple opposition government but it maintained a distance from the Reddy bros because giving them clout is inviting a massive trouble in AP via Jagan. Jagan and these Reddys are related though Jagan is Christian but these three are hindus. The CBI inquiry against them is initiated in AP which indirecly may help the BJP in KA but the real reason was to isolate Jagan inside INC.

The central leadership of INC is extremely wary of Jagan as both Sonia mata and YSR Jr have secrets about each other up their sleeve.

Spot on. 70 years back, under Nizam one could have discerned that Hyderabad (but not its outer environs) is different than Vijaywada or Tirupathi, but now Hyderabad is as synonymous with AP as Vishakapatnam is. Infact, I would venture out to say that Hyd'bad got more attention and more resources than required at the cost of other cities like Vijaywada in coastal or other towns in Rayalseema.

All cockroaches will come out of the wood work trotting out arguments on why Telangana is needed and how raw the deal was and how just separating it out will make it wonderful. That line of argument should be stomped out.

It looks like it is their own making and mental state than anybody suppressing them.

I think they can form Telengana with Nizambad, Karimnagar, Medak, Warangal, Adilabad, and with clear agreement on water sharing. I doubt there will be much objections.

True indeed.

Telengana storm hits Assam, separate statehood demands get strident
Spurred by New Delhi's attempt at granting a separate Telengana state, several ethnic groups in Assam have raised the banner of revolt with demands for separate states to be carved out of the region.

Among the prominent groups that have already raised the issue of separate statehood are the Bodos, the Karbis, and the Dimasa tribes in Assam. The first to raise the issue is the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), an ally of the ruling Congress party in Assam.

"If Telengana can be carved out of Andhra Pradesh, why not a separate Bodoland in Assam," BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary told IANS.

Mohilary headed the now disbanded Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT), a militant group that fought for a separate Bodoland since 1996.

In 2003, the central government signed an accord with the BLT paving the way for the creation of the Bodoland Territorial Council, a politico-administrative structure, providing greater autonomy to the tribal Bodos.

"We are surely going to revive our demand for Bodoland and launch a sustained mass movement to fulfil our aspirations," Mohilary said.

Ajit Singh to revive demand for Harit Pradesh
New Delhi, Dec 10 (PTI) With the Centre blinking on the issue of formation of Telangana, RLD chief Ajit Singh today decided to revive his demand for Harit Pradesh to be carved out of Uttar Pradesh after the Parliament session.

"Centre's decision to bring a resolution in Andhra Pradesh assembly on formation of Telangana is a welcome move.It is a good beginning. I will convene a meeting with like minded groups (those seeking smaller states) after the Parliament session and revive my demand for Harit Pradesh," the Jat leader told PTI here tonight.
Now, 96-hr fast for Gorkhaland begins
The Government’s decision to set up Telangana state seems to have stirred a hornet's nest. On the forefront is the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha which has upped the ante with a demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland.

GJM workers have called for a 96-hour strike in Darjeeling to push for a separate statehood, with 21 members each from Darjeeling, Kursiong, Kalimpong and Siliguri slated to go on fast from today (December 11).

The GJM wants a separate state carved out of the districts on the northern border of West Bengal. The proposed new state will include the popular hill stations of West Bengal -Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kurseong and Kalimpong.

"If there can be a separate Telangana, there should also be a separate Gorkhaland. We've been pressing for statehood since 1907,” GJM leader Roshan Giri told reporters yesterday.

The BJP has also thrown its weight behind the demand for a separate 'Gorkhaland' in Darjeeling, saying yesterday the region lies along the border and a separate statehood would help "prevent infiltration and protect the border better".
Is Vidarbha next in line?
MUMBAI: With the Centre warming up to the demand for a separate Telangana, leaders from the backward region of Vidarbha in Maharashtra are up on their feet. They are now looking at raising the pitch over statehood for Vidarbha.

Congress MPs from Vidarbha are set to request the Union government to consider the long-standing demand for Vidarbha’s separation.

Congress MP from Nagpur Vilas Muttemwar told The Hindu on the phone, “This morning we learnt about Telangana and, as a spontaneous reaction, I would be approaching the Congress high command to reiterate the demand. I congratulate Ms. Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister for considering the sentiments of the people of Telangana. I would, therefore, ask them to consider our sentiments too. Statehood for Vidarbha is a very old issue. It never died down. There are many supporters for it.”
Leave a region under developed for long and later grant it statehood. But you dare not question which party/allies were ruling these states for such a long time and why they did not develop these areas. Jai Ho.

once again, just my two cents, and what i have heard from my parents...
When I go home in Hyderabad, we live under same roof in a joint family where we the settlers (mom from the extreme rich divi-seema of Krishna district and dad from very backward areas called palnaadu of Guntur district ) and my sisters-in-law (two of them) who are pure Telanganites (real pure). By the way they came into our family via traditional arranged marriages. Imagine the relatives and functions that happens in an extended family and hence we all avoid this Telangana discussion :). We have the entire diversity of AP at home except from Rayalaseema.

BRF is where I discuss passionately regarding this issue. I have sympathy regarding the Telanganites' takleef and their want of ownership to their region though I hate to see AP divided. That is personal feeling and getting over it is very difficult though I feel let Telangana form and develop from there something like divison of a joint family into various nucleus families. However, on the flip side, the 60 year experiment of a large and very diverse southern state with cultures transitioning into five other India states under one roof will come to an end.

In my view this whole victimhood is something that will kill the concept of India and unfortunately we are lacking leadership across India who can curb these victimhood based movements. Telangana, MNS histrionics in Mumbai are all similar. India has created a system where you can compete and go up. It is a capitalist democracy and has all the features of competetive enterprenuership and competetive politics. Some sections are not competetive( for genuine and not so genuine reasons) and hence the victimhood. The leadership should encourage the population to be competetive and instead taking the shortcuts of making victimhood as planks.

Telangana has 117 MLAs and why are they is such a pitiable situation that they cannot lead the whole AP? They have to blame themselves as opposed to crying that outsiders are ruling. They just could not competetively manage the politics and they did not vote in unision to TRS even in recent elections. They have a substantial region and population and could have forced several things but being very soft and folks with higher inferiority complexity they did not do much.

I can give several examples. Let me give one more experience related to Hyderabad realestate. I bought a home from a builder who is a Raju/Verma from West Godavari district. He made several crores from the venture. Guess how did he acquire the land for the venture? There are four Reddy brothers who sold the land to these West Godavari Vermas for a very cheap price and with a deal where they will get four single family homes free of cost from the venture. Vermas made several crores where the landowners made only few crores. These Reddy brothers are extremely happy. Instead they are FOUR men and natives of that area and they could have minted money if they created and marketed the venture. Entire Hyderabad and surroundings are built that way.

Now tell me what is going to change even if Telangana is formed when India is no more semi-socialist like in 70s and 80s? It needs a grassroot movement to bring changes in the attitudes to make them competitive. There needs to be a jagruti movement to come out of the slumber/brutal Nizam time victimhood. No doubt their psyche is seriously damaged due to Nizam rule. Telangana folks are intelligent otherwise we would not have see types like PVNR.

/Rant starts

British only transferred the power (to INC), they never said that we are giving Independence....divide and rule is in full swing. Will India survive 2050 the way it is? I highly doubt. Politics is getting more fragmented over time...regional, caste, quota based politics will lead to further fragmentation. BTW, who is Sonia Gandhi to decide about the fate of AP? Ruling by proxy with no accountability? Where is the PM of India, when he needs to take charge of the volatile situation? Did we hear anything from him on Telangana issue?

Congress has ruled India as if the country is their baap ki jagir, anything to keep themselves in power......please let me say this, I will feel better, I am feeling very sad, depressed and seething with anger........inki...mkc...sorry, but needed this outlet to feel better.

Sometimes, I wonder why not just quit everything and leave for Himalayas (with a few menakas)

:(

This is what I still do not understand. What is their calculation about Telangana declaration? They are bound to lose the entire state if elections are called. Speaker can create a crisis of sorts by accepting the resignations.

Even if we go by ramana's view that UP is the real reason behind Telangana declaration, why is world they would do something like this to lose AP which is also a big state?

Rosaiah blames Centre for Telangana fire
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah is in no mood to take flak for the violent agitation across the state against the Centre's nod for a Telangana state.

Addressing the media on Friday, Rosaiah blamed the Centre for the decision to create Telangana. He said that one announcement from the Centre had caused a lot of repercussions - an indication that the chief minister probably had no idea that the UPA government would give an okay for Telangana.

Rosaiah insisted it was the top Congress leaders in Delhi who were taking all decisions. He said he had apprised them of the situation arising out of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram's statement on Telangana.

The chief minister said he was not the one to give solutions as the Congress high command was fully aware of the situation in the state.

"Chidambaram said a resolution in the assembly would be moved at an appropriate time. The process will be started now," Rosaiah said.

A CM not being aware of High Command's moves nor taken into confidence before announcing the split of his state !?!

Rosaiah is from Guntur district. His credibility will go so low that even his family members will distance from him if he do not make a dissenting voice.

On another note, if you hate Chidambaram and Veerappa Moily, you have to be in coastal AP today. The greatest of the greatest words from localized Telugu literature that anyone will not like to hear is being used by the congressmen there. :)

^ No views from the Owaisi family and MIM rage boys yet.

Here is an article that appeared exactly one year back which gives some insights.

(The title is amusing and some what contradicts the article itself)
“Muslim opposition to a separate Telangana is not new. We opposed Telangana state during the violent agitation in 1969 too. And this opposition has continued till date,” Asaduddin Owaisi, the new boss of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) told TSI.

The long-standing Shia-Sunni divide within the Muslim community is attributed to this dispute. “The leaders, particularly of MIM, are elitist Sunnis, and they are only a minor group among Muslims opposing a separate Telangana state for obvious reasons. These leaders had played into hands of the then Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, who used them in muffling the Telangana movement in 1969.

“The powerful, muscled minority Sunnis, who were outsiders and settled here during the Nizam’s regime, have gradually emerged as the representatives of the poor, forlorn Shias. And now these leaders are in the process of making the Muslim masses a part of their intrigues,” he alleged.

When the Gentlemen’s Agreement was signed in 1956 by Andhra and Telangana leaders for implementation of domicile rules, known as Hyderabad Mulki Rules, which stipulated 12 years’ stay in Telangana area to become a mulki (a local), clashes ensued between non-local Sunnies and local Shias. However, the large-scale migration of Shias from rural areas and towns in Telangana districts to Hyderabad made them submissive to the Sunnis who dominate the socio-political and economical spheres of the community.

But this argument was dismissed as ‘ridiculous’ by a MIM leader who was quick to point out that in the event of the formation of a new state, the tally of the seats of their party will go up in the elections. Referring to the interethnic competition and Sunnis supremacy, a social analyst and poet Syed Yakoob said ethnicity may develop in response to internal needs, to acquire status rather than as a result of interethnic competition. Muslims constitute 9.2 per cent of Andhra Pradesh’s total population of 76 million, as per the 2001 census. Their population in nine other districts of Telangana region is about 17 per cent. They constitute about 40 per cent of the four million population of Hyderabad.

“So, how can Congress ignore the apprehensions  of this big group of minorities,” the MIM leader asked.

Yawnn.. All this huge Rhona & Dhona about Telengana from folks from Coastal Andhra and Rayalseema is funny.

The Coastal and "Cudappah" (or as Rayalseema was formerly called I think) really know in your heart of hearts where you "belong".. Yeah Yeah.. Think about it. Aint it the "Madras" of old ?. Where are you going to have the new capital ?.. Did I hear Waltair and Tirupati being thrown about ? :rotfl: :rotfl: ..

Imagine a remote "fishing village" and a "overgrown village morphed into a town" being capitals of these places. Huh. If you are in Nellore, the closest big city is you know which.

As Darth Vader would have said.
Resistance is Futile. It is your DESTINY
Your destiny is to be ruled by the boor-o-crats of Fort St George . That is the way it was sirs, the "natural" scheme of things ,all the way upto Ganjam district (now in Orissa). The only thing is do you want to be one of 'em Boor-o-crats INSIDE the Fort or one of those outside the fort!. :(( :((

Hmm. I am sure in preparation for the "merger" , Dr Artiste, Mr Steel etc are brushing up on their long forgotten /discarded ancient Tamilized Telugu or (Telangu)  . Maybe they should send the universally popular and multilingual Rajinikanth as the chief interlocutor in the "merger" negotiations.

If Hyderabad goes , you can rest assured, that the entire Telugu Film industry will come running back to their "original home" - Madras .. All the old Gemini, Vijaya Vahini and studio folks and even Telugu stars like Akkeni Nageswar Roa, N T Rama Rao and all those old folks would smile and bless them from wherever they are now..

Bottom line.. Dear Coastal and Rayalseema folks. Let Hyderabad go. Your true roots are in the more attractive big apples of Madras (Coastal and Rayalseema folks) and Bangalore (Kurnool, Ananatpur, Chittoor etc folks) . Hyderabad was anyway too far away, alien and remote . :D
